EA4500 unresponsive while transferring large files

I got a refurbished EA4500 (directly from Cisco) last week. I have been having a few issues, which I have found (not too great) workarounds for. However, the latest issue has me stumped, and is unacceptable.
Whenever I am transferring files between 2 computers, I get kind of OK speed (5 MB/s). However, while this transfer happens, no other device can connect to the net. Actually, even trying to go to router home page (192.168.1.1) times out.
The clients still say they are connected to the router, but I just can't get anywhere.
As soon as the file transfer finishes, everything goes back to normal.
EA4500 replaced a WRT54G. Never had any problems with that router. It was such a workhorse. Just needed to upgrade to a n-router.
I am on the latest non-cloud firmware.
I have reduced the MTU size to 1200. Not sure that matters.
Thanks in advance.

I think I figured it out.
I have EA4500 running in N-only mode.
I have WRT54G connected to it and running in G-only mode.
I was transferring files between:
* Desktop A - Wired to EA4500
* Desktop B - n-Wireless (EA4500)
I was testing internet on 2 laptops, both of which are g-only (older laptops) and connected to WRT54G.
Today morning, I tested this setup again, but tested internet on my phone (n-Wifi). It worked just fine.
Then, I tried to ping WRT54G from my laptops (during file transfer). The request timed out.
So, I am guessing it is more of a 2.4ghz conflict. I had already ordered n-wifi usb adapters for my laptops. I should be getting that today.
However, I still have my mom's laptop and a old wireless printer, which will be on 802.11g.
Should I:
a) Just live with it, since there is only 1 or 2 devices?
b) Just turn off the wireless on WRT54G (still need extra wired ports) and turn on b/g/n on EA4500? I had read somewhere that EA4500 will perform better if it works in n-only mode (but I did not really read the technical details at that time). I had also taken this approach because I was trying to troubleshoot frequent disconnects on my Android devices (which I could not figure out, but got a wifi fixer app, which keeps reconnecting).
Any other creative ideas?
I recommend choosing "b". It is better to turn off the wireless of the WRT54G so that it would not create interference with the EA4500 specially that they are on the same location. For the EA4500 you set it to Mixed Mode and just do changes on the wireless settings to make it a stable connection. By the way are you using the classic firmware or the cloud one?

    While transferring several files to the G-Raid, the G-Raid device locks up with the following warnings:   "The Finder can't complete the operation because some data in (whatever file) can't be read or written (Error code - 36).” NOt sure this is a G-Raid problem, can anyone help?

    This is likely a problem with the drive itself. This error indicates unspecified I/O errors with the drive, which can be from a hardware fault, or a formatting issue. If the drive has valuable data on it, then try connecting it to another PC to get the data off, and then try fully partitioning and formatting the drive with Disk Utility. If this corrects the error then you should be able to use the drive again as it was likely a formatting issue, but if the problem continues then it is likely a hardware fault and the best solution is to be safe and replace the drive.

  • Problem while processing large files

    Hi
    I am facing a problem while processing large files.
    I have a file which is around 72mb. It has around more than 1lac records. XI is able to pick the file if it has 30,000 records. If file has more than 30,000 records XI is picking the file ( once it picks it is deleting the file ) but i dont see any information under SXMB_MONI. Either error or successful or processing ... . Its simply picking and igonring the file. If i am processing these records separatly it working.
    How to process this file. Why it is simply ignoring the file. How to solve this problem..
    Thanks & Regards
    Sowmya.

    Hi,
    XI pickup the Fiel based on max. limit of processing as well as the Memory & Resource Consumptions of XI server.
    PRocessing the fiel of 72 MB is bit higer one. It increase the Memory Utilization of XI server and that may fali to process at the max point.
    You should divide the File in small Chunks and allow to run multiple instances. It will  be faster and will not create any problem.

  • Ipod freezing while syncing large files

    My 30GB ipod video will freeze while sycing large files such as movies or audiobooks. When this happens, you can here the hard drive in the Ipod making alot of noise. I think the drive is near death. Has anyone had a similar issue?
    I'm using an Intel Imac (OSX) with a mac formated Ipod. I have rebooted the Ipod and have even done a factory reset in the past. It will fix it for a little while, but the symptoms return.

    I wish i could but im having the same problem. please someone help us!!

  • An error has occurred while transferring this file - MuVo v

    Hi, I recently purchased a MuVo v00, and am in the process of putting some music on it. I put a number of songs on it yesterday, and after noticing it still had almost 300 megs free, I decided to add some more. However it will now not allow the addition of ANY songs. Any I try to add, it fails to do so, giving me a "an error has occurred while transferring this file" message. Even when I attempt to rip directly from my cds to the device, it gives me this error.
    I've checked that all my software is up-to-date (using the automated update feature with the software I was provided)
    I would appreciate any help with this.

    I have exactly the same problem with my MuVo? .5 GB!
    I know that i had once about .GB of mp3s stored on it, however, I deleted all of them to upload a different mp3 collection. Now when I upload files to the MuVo, it stops when I have transfered about 450 MB. However, Windows-Explorer and Creative Media Source both say that there are still 900 and a few MB left, but when i try to copy a file - again "no space left on device".
    I tried to:
    delete all files, try transfer again - same effect
    run scandisk - no change
    format the player from the rescue menu - no change (whatever this does, this is not a real format, more a quickformat)
    updated to the latest firmware - still no change!
    I'm kinda really pissed now, I spent quite some time googling, but didn't find anyone else with that problem.
    So .. where went that "space"? Would it be usefull to re-format the player using the Windows format tool, like suggested in that thread (with the settings from that thread):
    http://forums.creative.com/creativelabs/board/message?board.id=dap&message.id=400
    I started to do that, but since it was *very* slow and the disk was seeking a lot (battery eaten up after about 20 mins!) I stopped the process.
    Maybe I will try that afain tomorrow, but *somehow* this can't be the real solution. Whatever the MuVo does here seems not to be standard behaviour, since scandisk reports the dri've to be OK. Would it be possible to re-partition the MuVo? I guess thats not a good idea, since I believe that the firmware is somewhere on the disk, too.

  • USB key ejecting itself when transferring large files

    I have a LG 16G USB key formatted in MacOS extended (journaled), I've been encountering a particular issue when I try to transfer files taken on another computer and copying them from the key to my Macbook pro ( OSX 10.6.2). after it start transferring it ejects itself with the "the disk was not ejected properly" message, then reappears right away in the finder...
    the problem doesn't present itself when I copy a file from my macbook pro to the key, and then try transferring it back to my computer. and I've tried this with both small files (under 200mb) and large files (over 4G).
    I've also noticed the transfer rate is very slow when this happens.
    so far the problem only presents itself when I transfer files from one of the MacPro's in my university's studios, but since I work a lot on these machine, this is becoming quite a problem. I don't have the complete specs of these machines, they all run on Leopard, probably 10.5.something. not SL... perhaps that's the problem?
    I've seen similar post on the forum concerning this issue with TimeMachine backup drives, suggesting it had something to do with the sleep preferences, however I've tried all the potential solutions from these post and the problem persists.
    So far the only solution I've found has been to transfer the files to my girlfriend's macbook (running on tiger), and then transferring the files in target mode from her computer to mine... quite inconvenient...
    I have a feeling this might be due to the formatting of my key, I have a 2G USB key formatted in MS-DOS (FAT32) and have had no problems with it so far. The reason I formatted in Mac OS extended is simple, I work in the video field and with HD I find myself often moving around single files larger then 4GB, which I've come to understand isn't possible in FAT 32.
    I'd like to know how to resolve this, and especially like to know if it is indeed a format issue, since I'm soon going to acquire a new external hard drive for the sole purpose of storing my increasing large media files and would like to know how to format it.

    Hi,
    I have an external USB Card reader (indeed - two different readers), which have the same problems with self-ejecting disks. Every transfer of data from SD card from my camera is the pain now. There is many different themes related to the self-"the disk was not ejected properly" situation, but no working solution now.

  • Privileges problem when transferring large files

    This just happened, and I don't know what changed. I cannot transfer large files from my Macbook Pro to my MacPro desktop, neither on the network nor by a USB hard drive. I get the infamous "You do not have sufficient privileges" message. The files start copying, and after about 1gb or so, the message pops up. Small files no problem, there's no restriction on those. It does not matter which disk I am trying to copy it to.
    I thought it was just a problem with iMovie files and folders (these get big fast), but it seems to be an issue with any large file. I have repaired permissions on both disks, I have made sure that the unlock key is unlocked and that all the boxes are checked "Read & Write".
    And this problem just arose today. Nothing has changed, so far as I know.

    I assume I am always logged in as administrator because I have never logged in as anything else. It also does not matter from what folder, or even disk drive, I am trying to transfer from. If the file is above a certain size, it stops transferring and I get the error.
    What interests me is not that I immediately get the "insufficient privileges" error when I try and transfer a forbidden folder or file. I've seen that. This happens after about a gig of data has transferred over already, then that error pops up.

  • Mac mini drop connection while transferring data/files

    Hi guys,
    I took my second step away from Windows and into Mac by buying the mac mini and gave it as a present to my mom! :-D I love that little thing almost as much as my iBook! First thing my dad said was "where is the rest of it!?" hehe!
    Okay, now onto the issue that with the mini. From the very first moment, it is having massive troubles while transferring files from internet as well as my home network. Right in the middle of file transfer, the transfer (for no apparent reason) just stops. I can stil click and minimize it etc. but thats about it. Then Finder freezes and then I end up restarting the mini my hard-reset...Its quite painful to do that...
    I can see there are lots of posts in regards to wireless issue of mini, but I couldn't locate the one that resembles mine. I can surf the internet fine, but the problem hits as soon as I try to download something directly. Any ideas? Suggestions?
    Oh, Im running a wireless network. My main transfer of files is either from the internet (updating OS X and related files etc.) or to bring in files from my XP-based PC which is on LAN based ethernet. My mini is wifi of course. I don't seem to have any troubles downloading files to my iBook from the same XP PC, but mini isn't able to handle it. Yes, not even the automatic downloads from Apple...
    I want to call Apple but they will just blame it on third party stuff! Sometimes I wonder why they are sitting there in the first place! I am not happy with their customer service. Though I love this forum!!!! Any help will be greatly appreciated :-D Thanks, in advance!

    I've had a similar problem. I've noticed that when I turn off "Convert higher bit-rate songs to ..." that it seems to resolve it. Try that and see if it solves your problem.

  • Transferring large files from my mac to pc

    Hi guys, i'm trying to transfer a large file from my mac to my pc. Its over 7GB and my mac doesnt have a DL dvd burner so that's out of the question. I've tried transferring it over the network however the eta is 2 days which is a little too long. I've tried putting the file on my external HD but when its formatted into mac os extended my laptop does not recognise it and when the drive is formated in ms dos (fat) i am unable to put the file on to the drive (error code 0)
    I've run out of ideas what to do so was hoping someone on here could help
    Thanks

    Hi and welcome to Discussions,
    have a look at this little Windows program http://hem.bredband.net/catacombae/hfsx.html
    It enables Windows to read from HFS-formatted (OSX) harddisks.
    Might be the easiest and cheapest solution, as others are not free.
    MacDrive would be another option, but is not free (but has more features).

  • Itunes with 10.3x not transferring large files to external hard drive

    I have been unable to transfer any large files, basically anything over over two artists or so from old external hard drive for my old windows xp computer to my new external hard drive (both iomega and western digital have been tried) without the transfer cutting out and popping up a message to effect of itunes can not copy or add file to folder...something like that. am i missing something that i need to be doing? ive got about 33,000 items, and the thought of doing them 10-15 at a time really isn't something i want to do. But as of this point, i can't find a way to simply xfer the whole itunes library from the old external to the new one. Thanks for any help.

    You can transfer purchased content ONLY! Unfortunately, you have no choice as to what gets transferred. Here are some work arounds
    1. Delete off iPod Touch/iPhone/iPod then transfer
    2. Transfer all content then delete from computer

  • Keep losing connection to Time Capsule while copying large files from Vista

    I keep getting "Error 0x80070079: The semaphore timeout period has expired" while trying to copy large (1GB+) files from my Windows Vista Business 64 bits laptop (this OS is running on a MacBook Pro using BootCamp) wirelessly connected to a Time Capsule. The wireless connection to the Time Capsule is interrupted when this error occurs and then I can re-establish the connection. The problem seems to only occur when I copy large files or when I copy many files at once.

    I believe that this problem is resolved as I describe here:

  • Transferring large file over internet

    Hi,
    I am attempting to transfer a large file over the internet (around 8GB), and I'm not sure what the best way of doing it is.
    This file is currently located on my desktop at home, and want to get it onto my laptop here (not going to be home for another month or so, so going home to get it isn't really an option!)
    I'm suscribed to MobileMe, but the maximum upload file size for iDisk was 1GB. If there is a way around this, let me know! Another option I had was using back to my back and just copying the file over, but this will take quite a while (not a problem, as I'm expecting it to take a while however I do it!)
    Any other suggestions? So far, the best option I have is just simply copying it using Back to my Mac, but please chime in if anyone as any better ideas!
    Thanks!
    Steve

  • WiFi breaks when transferring large file over LAN

    Hi guys,My WiFi mostly behaves itself, however if I try to transfer a large file (The last one was ~1GB) over the LAN (standard SMB file copy), WiFi drops out. It gets roughly 30MB through before connectivity is lost.The WiFi continues to show as connected, but I cannot even ping my router.Only disconecting and reconnecting WiFi re-establishes the connection.Any idea what's up? (My router is the black 'home hub' style. I can't find any version information in it's admin panel.) (And before someone asks, no I'm not telling you the contents of the file as it isn't relevant. With the greatest of respect, if you just ask unrelated questions to pry, please don't waste everyones time.)

    Didn't think of that, thanks. Great workaround.I'm going to call Sky, see if they have any firmware updates or other solution. Surely they wouldn't leave such a big knows issue unfixed. I'll report back with what they say. Edit:Just got off the phone from Sky technical support.This issue was first reported Nov/Dec 2014.The chap I spoke to does not know of a fix, or whether a fix is being worked on, or if a fix will ever be worked on.He has not way of contacting the development team to find out any of this information.He said firmware updates are pushed out to routers every now and again. He does not know when this is going to happen and does not have a way to notify about firmware updates installed on my router. (This terrifies me. Sky have a backdoor into my router and can install any code they wish, without even telling me what they changed/installed). There is no way to turn these auto-updates off either. Here's a key thing he did say though:He said he was not at liberty to provide my ADSL credentials, but if I chose to extract them from the router and install my own router instead, they would not have any problem with that.When I told him that this was against their TOS and they could terminate my contract for doing this, he went silent and just said "errr..." Allowing Sky, their subcontractors and anyone else they choose to install any code they wish to my router whenever they please and have free open access to my entire LAN is a total deal breaker for me. That router is getting unplugged today and I'm putting a new router on the credit card. I told tech support this. I said if they have a problem with that, let's go the legal route. I literally have a recorded call where they give me permission to install my own router.

  • Lost connection between airport extreme and macbook air when transferring large files

    Can anyone help...?
    I have an imac and macbook air wirelessly connected to a airpot extreme being used as a router with a hard drive for sharing files accross the network.
    It connects ok but when we try and look at a number of large files one after the other, or copy files from the shared hard drive onto the macbook air, the macbook loses wireless connection?
    A very strange issue which i cant figure out....
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks

    It could be a wireless interference or strength of wireless signal issue.
    What happens when you connect the MacBook Air to the router via an Ethernet connection?

  • Transfering large files

    Hi all,
    There have been occasions in the past (recently becoming more regular) where I've had send a file to a client. I have done this via email however, with large files (40MB-60MB plus) this has proved not to be the ideal method.
    Having read a little bit around these boards I see mention of things like FTP, Remote login and stuff like that.
    Is it possible for me to set up my system with individual folders whereby a client can log in and download the files I created for them? If it is, I would need to restrict access so that a client can only log in to their folder and not see folders blonging to other clients.
    Many thanks in advance.

    A .htaccess file is basically a override file for the server configuration that applies tot he directory it resides in and its children (although it can be overridden by another .htaccess file in a child directory provided that you allow it - which we wont in this case since i assume you youll wnt clients to have access to everthing in thier directories).
    You cant find a .htaccess file because you have to create it yourself But before that goodness we have to enable thier use in apache...
    *All commands, path/file names and configuration directives are CaSe SeNsItIvE*
    fire up Teminal with an admin level account on your machine and issue the following commands (pressing enter after each line):
    <pre style="background-color: #000; color: #ccc; font-family:monaco, courier, monospaced; padding: 5px;">
    cd /etc/httpd
    sudo cp httpd.conf httpd.conf.mybak
    sudo pico httpd.conf
    </pre>
    Th first command will move us into the directory /etc/httpd where much info for apache (httpd, http daemon) resides. The second will make a copy of the current apache configuration file (httpd.conf) as a different name (httpd.conf.mybak) as a backup so we can revert if need be. lastly we will open the httpd.conf file in a commandline text editor (in this cas ive use pioc because its the most straight forward but if you have expereince with vi, emacs, or somthing else youve installed you can use that - but i donw know thier command keystorkes so youll have to translate the rest of my instructions for this portion...).
    use the combo contorl+W
    you will see that a grey bar has a appeared saying "Search:"
    type: AllowOverride
    and hit enter
    you should be taken to a part of the file that looks like this:
    <pre style="background-color: #000; color: #ccc; font-family:monaco, courier, monospaced; padding: 5px;">
    # This controls which options the .htaccess files in directories can
    # override. Can also be "All", or any combination of "Options", "FileInfo",
    # "AuthConfig", and "Limit"
    AllowOverride None
    </pre>
    Use the arrow keys to move your cursor to the end of the word "None" and delete it. Then type "AuthConfig" so that the you have this:
    <pre style="background-color: #000; color: #ccc; font-family:monaco, courier, monospaced; padding: 5px;">
    # This controls which options the .htaccess files in directories can
    # override. Can also be "All", or any combination of "Options", "FileInfo",
    # "AuthConfig", and "Limit"
    AllowOverride AuthConfig
    </pre>
    Then use the key combo control+X to writeout and close the file. You will be promted to confirm your changes before it saves and closes - type "yes" and hit enter when it does so.
    Now you shoudl find yourself back at the shell prompt. Issue this command to restart apache so the changes take effect:
    <pre style="background-color: #000; color: #ccc; font-family:monaco, courier, monospaced; padding: 5px;">
    sudo apachectl graceful
    </pre>
    Unless you messed something up apache shoudl restart successfully.
    Congratualtions you have just enabled .htaccess authentication on the webroot! hehe.
    now follow the steps outlined here:
    http://httpd.apache.org/docs/1.3/howto/htaccess.html
    (scroll down to "Authentication example", not youll see lot of stuff throughout this doc that says not to use .htaccess if you can avoid it but to use the config file instead. In general this is tru, however given what you are trying to do i dont think you want to mess with the main server configuration file everytime you add a user - especially as a novice).
    Now the instructions i gave you assume youre using the webroot of the system: /Library/WebServer/Documents/
    which corresponds to: http://000.000.000.000/
    wher the zeros are your public ip address or public dns name.
    Youll want to make your client folders directly in the webroot, NOT your user webroot. so the path to a clientfolder on your local system would look like:
    /Library/WebServer/Documents/clientfoldername/
    and they would access it with the url:
    http://000.000.000.000/clientfoldername/
    That should get you up and running... if you have problems you an post back here or consult the mighty oracle of google
