EA6200 DNS / DHCP reservation

Hello.  I recently replaced my old router with a Linksys EA6200, and I'm having a bit of trouble getting local DNS working correctly.
On my network I like to set up DHCP reservations to make it easier to find certain machines.  For example, let's say I have a DHCP reservation for 192.168.1.101 for a machine called "bob".  DHCP seems to assign the proper IP to the machine, so that part seems to be working fine.  But the DNS server in the router does not resolve "bob".  This has worked fine on every other router I've owned.  Any ideas what I'm missing?
Solved!
Go to Solution.

Ok, I think I've figured out what was going on, but I'll leave this here in case someone else has the same issue. It seems that my clients were still on the dhcp lease from my old router, so they had not registered. Forcing them to renew their dhcp lease seems to correct the issue.

  • DHCP reservation & DNS for content filtering

    Hi All,
I am working around with server 2008 for quite a while and facing a problem as below,
    1.DHCP reservation error
Server Ip:192.168.0.254 (configured as DNS server for local use only with AD & DHCP)
    DHCP scope: 192.168.0.100 to 192.168.0.200 excluded 192.168.0.100 to 192.168.0.110
earlier the same scope was 192.168.0.10 to 192.168.0.100. I was facing a error when I make a IP reservation against a MAC number error was " The unique identifier may not be correct do you want to use the identifier anyway" when I click yes "DHCP
server received a message from a client that is not valid" and by this error I am not able to make any reservations now against MAC numbers.
The same error was also on the earlier scope and that's why changed to a new scope but did not work. Any solutions will me much appreciated
    2.DNS fine tuning.
I have an open DNS account on which my WAN IP number is configured to do a content filtering. I have two LAN ports with the below IP number
Local : 192.168.0.254 ( configured with no gateway and DNS as loopback (127.0.0.1)
ISP: 192.168.0.253 (with ISP gateway and DNS as loop back adapter & open DNS)
I have did a content filtering and things are working fine. But I got to open up some machines out of this content filtering and when I try to give the IP number in this below fashion.
    192.168.0.115
    255.255.255.0
    192.168.0.1
    DNS
    192.168.0.254
    ISP DNS to avoid filtering
I find that 192.168.0.254 does the resolving and things are still filtered as per the schedule. Is there a way where we can configure 192.168.0.254 (Local DNS server) to stop resolving web requests and only cater to resolving local names for connectivity.
I do know its too long but solutions for the same will be help me out to solve it. Thanks in advance.

    Hello,
I have found something strange on the DHCP reservation. When I try to add a MAC number out of the network its able to make out a reservation.
Is there any way to clear the MAC number cache or something else which I can try.

  • DHCP Reservation Sync and DNS Host record sync etc shown in IPAM GUI

    Hello all,
I am aware of the scripts in the TechNet script center to sync DHCP leases etc to IPAM, however my question is about something else -
If you highlight an IP address (IP address inventory->select an IP), You can see fields that say: "DHCP reservation sync", "DNS PTR record sync" and "DNS host record sync" as below:
I was curious as to what these are for. Is there some built-in sync functionality for these that I perhaps have not enabled? (Don't see such options any where..)
    thanks,
    -Ravi

    Hi  Ravi ,
The three columns tell us the information of the synchronization between IPAM server and DNS server (or DHCP server) .
Here is the detailed guide for using IPAM :
Using the IPAM Client Console :
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj878351.aspx#inventory
IPAM can sync DNS and DHCP records .
The IPAM database is separate from DHCP and DNS servers on our network ,and full synchronization of hosts and IP addresses between IPAM and managed DNS or DHCP servers does not occur automatically
unless we have configured automated tasks to perform this synchronization .
    For detailed information ,see
DNS and DHCP record synchronization chapter in the following link :

  • C6300BD-202 - DHCP Reservations Faulty on this router!

It simply does not give out the right IP to reservation as seen in the screenshot. Firmware update urgently needed. Also, on basic view the blue boxes showing the connected device info disappears after about 10 seconds.

What frustrates me is I have given black and white evidence with the screen capture in the initial post proving the DHCP reservations are not being given out, simply ignored. You can imagine the havoc this causes trying to set up a home network. Its also kinda crappy that it doesn't show the netbios/dns names against the DHCP leases. My older Netgear R6300 does this. Here is my modem info, firmware etc:  Standard Specification CompliantEuroDOCSIS 3.0 and DOCSIS 3.0Hardware VersionC6300BD-202Software Version5510_V10106Software Version(Linux)2.6.30.V1.01.06Cable MAC Address6c:b0:ce:5f:2b:98Device MAC Address6c:b0:ce:5f:2b:99Cable Modem Serial Number3TH347WP032ABCM certificateInstalled

  • WRT350N access using telnet, fixing DHCP reservation issue

    Hi,
Got my WRT350N recently and ran into a small bug.
Somehow I could not set a DHCP reservation for a specific machine/address. For other machines it worked perfectly.
I found out that I can telnet to the device:
    $ telnet 192.168.1.1 33
    # uname -a
    Linux 2.6.12-arm1 #1 Thu Dec 13 14:07:15 CET 2007 armv5tejl unknown
That's handy, you know what you are running on the WRT350N!
    Then I found with
    # nvram show
that the machine failing in DHCP reservation was already listed as first item in variable:
    static_dhcp_clients=eljo:280:000874AB0846:1:joel:192.168.1.12:0015F23B916E:1
Using 'nvram set' I removed the 'eljo' entry and I could fill it in again correctly using the web interface!
    So I'm a happy user ;-)

I have the same issue on Solaris 8 with a Linksys WRT54G firmware 3.01.3. I can access the internet using the Netscape 4.7 browser but, only by using http://ip.addr. nslookup works in forward lookups e.g. www.google.com. and sometimes by ip.addr.
    snoop -d le0 shows
hostname DNS R Error: 3(Name Error)
I removed dhcp configurations and set a static route on the linksys router under advanced routing and plumbed the interface. I still have the same problem.
    I am using a Sparc20.
I checked resolv.conf and it is correct. I checked /etc/nsswitch.conf, it uses hosts: files dns.
defaultrouter is the same as yours.

  • Communication between the DNS/DHCP Manager and OES Server

No communication between the DNS/DHCP Manager Console and OES server (status, start, stop)
The screenshot shows the tab "DHCP (OES Linux)" in the DNS / DHCP Manager console
in the bottom of the image it shows the state of the DHCP servers.
    allDHCP.JPG
The dhcp service is started on all these servers
You can see that the status is known only for four servers.
The button "start/stop DHCP service" works fine on this servers and
the dhcp service can be canceled and also restarted
But the status of the "dhcp service" is not recognized for all the other DHCP servers
and so we can not start or stop dhcp service on these servers.
All servers were installed at different times (last three years) with OES11 and
are upgraded to OES11SP2 with all patches.
The server keto (DHCP_keto) is a new installation OES11SP2 few days ago.
All OES servers were set up identically from me. LDAP, LUM, DMS, DHCP works fine.
Which service on the OES server is responsible for
communication (status indicator) between the DNS/DHCP Manager and the OES serve?
How the status query is performed by the DNS/DHCP Manager?
How can I test the communication to the server on the client (console)?
Which configurationfiles I should be compare on the server?
    Thanks in advance

  • DNS/DHCP app no longer sees DNS/DHCP server.

When I moved the majority of my Netware 6 servers to OES-NW last year, I started using iManager to handle admin duties for DNS and DHCP.
With a planned move to OES-L coming up, I tried accessing both services using the DNS/DHCP java console.
While I am able to log into that console, I am unable to see my DNS/DHCP server or any of the expected components for either service (DHCP pools, zone records, etc...).
I have tried both the console that is installable from the server and the newer LDAP-based version.
I have tried both 32 and 64-bit versions on XP and Windows 7, respectively.
Since I want to move those services to OES/Linux and the java console is the only mechanism that can administrate the services on that platform, I am perplexed.
My needs are simple, and I could easily move those duties to a SUSE server or even a Windows server, but that is not my preference.
Any ideas on where to begin troubleshooting are welcome.

You have more than one DNS-DHCP locator object in your tree, and the
console is picking up a/the empty one. Find the proper object (look at
the other tab in consoleone or imanager to see if it's connected with
servers zones and the like), and delete the superflouos ones.
This is an *extremely* common problem when OES gets introduced into a
tree, as it by default creates new locator objects in the server
container, if it's not configured otherwise.

  • Single server as Soft AP, DC, DNS, DHCP for a small office

The server is running 2012 R2 Foundation with a wired network for internet (Comcast). It has a WiFi adapter so it can host a wireless network (as a Soft AP). The WiFi host has a static IP 1.1.1.1.
On the server I have setup AD, DNS, and DHCP services (all bind to that static IP).
All clients need to connect server and internet via WiFi, and join the domain for work.
But it looks like the DHCP/DNS services don't like the virtual adapter - although all clients can connect, they cannot get their IP.
Without AD/DNS/DHCP I can share internet connection with ICS perfectly, so I think the hosted WiFi network is setup correctly.
I tried to remove the DHCP service, and use ICS to assign IP - it works, but clients cannot see the DNS server and thus cannot join AD.
What am I missing? Thanks for your help!

It is never a good idea to run a DC with two NICS. It causes all sorts of problems. (The only exception was SBS server which was designed as a one-box solution). Also, a domain will not run behind ICS. If you are running a domain, the domain clients
must use the local DNS (on the DC) for DNS, not the DNS relay system of ICS. RRAS/NAT will work because you can configure it so that it does not run its own DHCP function. ICS is not configurable.
Even if you overcome that problem, you still have the multihomed DC problem. It really isn't worth the effort to save a few bucks.

  • DNS/DHCP Management Console doesn't start

    Folks,
I am running the DNS/DHCP Management Console in an old Windows XP Pro SP2 computer, and it works fine. But when I install it in my XP Pro SP3 computer it refuses to start. It stucks at the welcome screen with the globe animation and doesn't go any further. And there is also no apparent program or process to kill in the Task Manager, and the CPU util is zero. I have to log out and back in again to get rid of the welcome screen.
I am wondering if it may have something to do with the Java Runtime Environment (JRE)? I am using the latest version in my SP3 machine, where it doesn't work, and a much older version in my SP2 machine, where it works. I have not upgraded Java in that machine because I am afraid that the Management Console might stop working... If Java is the source of the problem, is it impossible to get it to work with a newer Java?

I wrote a TID on this, but it hasn't shown up yet. It is TID 7016049
As I am still waiting for it to show up on the public site, I will populate the resolution portion of the TID here. Hope it helps:
Despite uninstalling all older versions of Java, a remnant of the old install still exists. The offending file is javaw.exe, but there may also be a java.exe in the same location.
In the C:\Windows\SysWOW64 directory there may be a javaw.exe and java.exe from a previous installation. Check the properties > details tab of the file to confirm the version. If this javaw.exe is found first then Windows is directed to look in the wrong location in the registry for the Java Runtime Environment key. Once removed the javaw.exe from C:\Program Files\Java\JRE1.8.0_25\bin directory is found, which sends Windows down the correct path to find the necessary key in the registry.
Once the older version of javaw.exe is removed, the JMC should load.
The SysWOW64 directory is for 64-bit machines. If this error is being encountered on a 32 bit machine, then the superfluous javaw.exe must be found and removed. Process Monitor for Windows can be downloaded and utilized to track down the superfluous javaw.exe. As the java.exe is also superfluous, we recommend removing it to (or copy it out to a backup directory until testing is complete).

  • DPM 2012 R2 UR4 and BMR backup from physical 2008 R2 (DC, DNS, DHCP,WSUS, WDS)

    Hi,
    I'm completely lost.
    We updated from DPM2010 (2008 R2) to DPM 2012 R2 RU4 (2012 R2).
Clean install. Same hardware. Everything went quite smoothly.
Our new (and also old did the same thing) DMP protects some Hyper-V guest on our 2008 R2 Hyper-V cluster, one Exchange (2010) DB's and SQL 2008 R2 DB's and one physical server - 2008 R2 (DC, DNS, DHCP,WSUS, WDS ~160GB of data).
Currently we are using some Buffalo Terastation's III (TS-RIXL) iSCSI SAN storage to hold our DPM protected data.
    Configured as RAID 5.
Our new DPM server is connected to those iSCSI devices using built in MS iSCSI initiator via secondary NIC on this server using dedicated iSCSI subnet.
Everything seems to be fine unitil System State and BMR (I'v checked both) runs.
Basically my iSCSI NIC shows Write about ~170Mbit/s and Read about 520Mbit/s when backing up virtual machines, Exchange or SQL.
When it comes to System State and BMR backup the trouhgput is MUCH slower (about 65Mbit/s) and I can not figure out why. I understand that the BMR backup initiates direct writing to the DPM created and shared replica volume on my iSCSI NAS (my wording
might be not correct but basically  I understand how this works). But I don't understand why the speed is so much slower. I'v tried everything, googeled around, changed NIC drivers, firmware etc. No luck.
If I just copy some big ISO file from/to server to DPM or vice versa the speed is arount 100MB/s (as reported by windows itself). So it seems to able to utilize full network speed. But why this backup is so slow? I'm excpecting to see speed about ~170Mbit/s
because it corresponds my iSCSI Write speed as seen when backing up hyper-v guests and DB's..
    What I'm doing wrong?
    Any help is appreciated :)
    rgds Sven

    Hi Sven,
Sometimes BMR is slower than backing up virtual machines (VHDs). If there is a free local disk, please test to do a backup locally to see the speed. From your description a common backup works much faster so let's see if it is the backup speed which causes
    the issue or not.

  • E4200 : DHCP Reservation not showing anything !?!

    Hello,
When I'm in Setup -> Basic Setup -> click on DHCP Reservation, I don't see all entries I've created earlier but computers that connect still have the correct IP address on the network; I don't know if I can create additional entries if nothing appears, what should I do ?
When I go to Status -> Local Network -> DHCP Client Table the list is blank but some computers are connected to the network
    I'm using firmware 1.0.01 build 10  Feb 21, 2011, language = English, Firefox 4.0.1
Rebooting the router doesn't change anything, I can't see connected LAN equipment and DHCP Reservation is empty despite the fact I've created entries.
Together with the "Access Restriction" which doesn't allow to block a computer from 10pm => 8am unless you create 2 rules + various issues with attached USB + 2.4Ghz signal that is far from optimal (never able to achieve more than 144-N-Mbps) and I ask myself if I will not contact the store where I purchased this unit and ask a refund (and buy something else from another brand...)
It's the first time I buy a Linksys equipment and very disappointed, support doesn't seem to be very serious
    Thanks for any suggestion
PS: Where do I ask for a refund or something similar in Linksys site ? If nothing exists, I'll let the store where I purchased this unit now about the present post

    Thanks for your answers
Today it works and I didn't reboot, restart or reset anything
I can see DHCP Reservation list + DHCP Clients Table
Same PC, same network, nothing restarted, reset, changed or added and now it works
    Weird
I would not like to re-create everything in the DHCP Reservation List as I have 17 entries so far (and going to add 1 more...)
Apparently, if I can't see my list, I have to wait a few days

  • DHCP Reservation

DHCP reservations are nothing more than instructions to the server. The DHCP client protocol doesn't know anything about reservations. DHCP clients send their MAC address as part of the request and the DHCP server uses this address to find a matching reservation. If the server finds a match in the reservations it allocates the reservation address. If not then the server searches the existing lease table and allocates the first match there. If no MAC match is found then the next available IP address is allocated. The protocol doesn't proscribe how the "random" allocation is done, just that it come from the lease pool.Because the DHCP client doesn't know about this it then starts sending lease renewal requests at the 50% point in the lease. To unblock port 68, enable Bootp on your DHCP server. The Windows DHCP server works with both DHCP...

    Hi,
I have a thin client device that receives an IP address from a DHCP server on Windows 2008. I created a DHCP reservation for the device to use 192.168.0.81 and confirmed that the IP address was assigned to the device correctly.
But I have been seeing packets are being blocked by firewall because port 67 from requesting device to DHCP server on port 68 does not allow by default rule on firewall.
My question is, even though the device receives the reserved IP address, why it keeps sending DHCP packets to its server? As far as I know, when DHCP reservation is used, there is no lease time allocated to the IP. Or does device send DHCP packets anyways regardless of reservation? If it does, how often does requesting device send the request?

  • How to monitor the DNS & DHCP record like errors...

    Hi
I am controling the large DNS & DHCP environment, Can any body have any scripts or way ot control the daily summury of queries and error...
    Thanks
    Mohammed Tanvir

    Try the following:
    Reason for issue:
Possibly the Microsoft.ipam ps session configuration is missing from the ipam server.
    Resolution:
         Log into the ipam server
Launch a powershell window with administrator privileges
    Execute the following commands:
    New-PSSessionConfigurationFile -Path ./ipam.pssc
    Register-PSSessionConfiguration -Name Microsoft.ipam -Path .\ipam.pssc
    Set-PSSessionConfiguration -name Microsoft.ipam –ShowSecurityDescriptorUI
Add the following groups from the local machine scope:
            IPAM Administrators
            IPAM ASM Administrators
Make sure they have full control privileges.
    Get-PSSessionConfiguration *ipam
Now you should be able to see the Microsoft.ipam ps session configuration
If the following command succeeds then the error should no longer occur
    $testSession = New-PSSession -computerName <ipamFQDN> -configurationName Microsoft.ipam.

  • What is the maximum dhcp reservations

What is the maximum dhcp reservations in apple airport extreme? Can it hold 20 records? More?
I am considering switching from my current router from another vendor because it can hold maximum 10 dhcp reservations.

Any follow up on this?  My airport extreme seems to have a ceiling of 25 and I need ~35.

  • Missing Add DHCP Reservations Option

I have an older Airport Extreme Base Station (flying saucer variety...version 5.7...purchased approx. 2005(?) 802.11b/g).  I am using an iMac with AirPort Utility 5.5.3.  I am attempting to set up my AEBS to allow Remote Management from my MacBook Pro from outside my Airport network.
My understanding is that I need to be able to add DHCP Reservations in AirPort Utility to begin to make the proper connections.
When I visit the Internet/DHCP tab in AirPort Utlity I am shown:
    DHCP Beginning Address (10.0...)
    DHCP Ending Address (10.0.1...)
    DHCP Lease (4) (Hours)
    DHCP Message: (-blank-)
    LDAP Server: (-blank-)
That's it.  I'm not presented any list of DHCP Reservations, nor the "+" button to allow me to add a new Reservation.  Aren't I supposed to be able to add Reservations on this view?
Is, perhaps, my AE Base Station too old to allow adding Reservations?  Or, could some other setting be wrong preventing this option?
My Internet Connection/Connection Sharing is set to "Share a public IP address".
Any direction or links to other discussions on this topic are most appreciated.  Thank you.

It's been too long ago for me to remember what the Flying Saucer settings had....
Here is a screen shot of Airport Utility 5.6 which is for Lion and it shows the DHCP reservations.
Airport Utility 5.5.3 should have the same as 5.6 has only been out for a couple of weeks...
