EA6300 - no ipv6 connection (ipv4 - ok)

Hi all,
I can't get the wired PC to have ipv6 connectivity throgh EA6300.
When I connect directly to the fiber modem i have both ipv4 & ipv6 connectivity.
Is this a known issue and will it be addressed in a firmware?
Additional data:
The PC is running Win 8.1 Pro.
The fiber modem is a HG865.
When I connect the PC directly to the modem trough PPPOE everything works.
I have both ipv4 & ipv6 connectivity - tested.
When I connect the PC trough EA6300 (EA6300 connected to the modem again trough PPPOE) I get only ipv4 connectivity.

Have you tried another computer? If you have the latest firmware version, I would suggest you try doing a reset and reconfiguration then check it again.

  • How do I configure ISP native IPv6 connectivity?

    Hi!
    I'm a network engineer for SECOM, an ISP in Southeastern Colorado. We will be making native IPv6 connectivity available to residential subscribers soon, and I've been tasked with verifying support for our IPv6 platform on home router products.
    I have an AirPort Extreme purchased new in November of '09 that is running version 7.5.1, which I believe is completely current.
    Under the IPv6 tab in my Advanced settings, I have the following configuration:
    IPv6 Mode: Router
    Block incoming IPv6 connections: NOT checked
    Configure IPv6: Manually
    WAN IPv6 Address: fdXX:XXXX:XXXX:a000::2
    WAN IPv6 Prefix Length: 64
    IPv6 Default Route: fdXX:XXXX:XXXX:a000::1
    LAN IPv6 Address: fdXX:XXXX:XXXX:c000::1
    (As you can see, I'm using ULA's for testing purposes, and I've replaced the global bits with X's for security.)
    The problem is, if I plug a host into one of the LAN ports and assign it an address from the same /64 subnet (e.g. fdXX:XXXX:XXXX:c000::2), the host can't ping the Airport's assigned LAN address.
    It can ping:
    * the Airport's link-local IPv6 address, and
    * the Airport's IPv4 192.168.x.x address
    Also (and I'm gratified that this part is working), my CE router can ping the Airport's WAN IPv6 address!
    So my question is, is there something in the IPv6 configuration I'm misunderstanding? Has anyone else gotten native statically-configured IPv6 working on the AirPort Extreme?
    Thanks very much in advance,
    John E. / SECOM
    P.S. - I have verified with a packet capture that the AirPort extreme is not responding at all for the configured LAN IPv6 address; i.e., the ICMPv6 neighbor solicitation goes unanswered.
    P.P.S. - I have tried a Windows 7 host, a Windows XP host, and an IPv6-certified multitester from JDSU. All exhibit the same symptoms.

    I have follow your instruction to connect to my ISP as it shows the following message:
    Serial connection established.
    using interface sppp0
    connect: sppp0 <--> /dev/ttya
    local IP address xxxxxxxx
    remote IP address 1.1.1.1
    But when I ping www.sun.com, it shows:
    www.sun.com unknown.
    I start Mozilla and it said www.sun.com not found etc...
    What has gone wrong?
    Do I have to configure some files such as:
    /etc/resolv.conf
    /etc/hosts
    /etc/hostname ?
    or any other steps that can help me to connect to the internet?
    Thanks...

  • RV220W - Trying to setup an IPv6 connection

    Hi,
    My ISP provides IPv6 connectivity in the form of dual stack IPv4/IPv6 with DHCPv6 Prefix Delegation. Using a Cisco IOS-based router I managed to make such a connection by using as a template the Cisco IOS configuration file that my ISP has posted as an example in the following link:
    http://ipv6.otenet.gr/current-config.txt
    The main point on this configuration is a PPPoE connection with:
    interface Dialer46
    ipv6 address autoconfig default
    ipv6 enable
    ipv6 dhcp client pd LAN_DHCP
    interface Vlan1
    description local LAN
    ipv6 address LAN_DHCP ::/64 eui-64
    ipv6 enable
    ipv6 nd other-config-flag
    ipv6 dhcp server LAN_DHCP
    I am now trying to configure an RV220W router on the same network but I cannot make it establish an IPv6 connection. Perhaps I am not setting it up correctly to make it work similarly to the Cisco IOS-based router. My settings are the following:
    Networking -> IPv6 ->
    IP Mode - IPv4 and IPv6 Dual-Stack
    IPv6 WAN - DHCPv6 + Stateless Address Auto Configuration
    IPv6 LAN - IPv6 Address: fec0::1, IPv6 Prefix Length: 64, DHCP Status: Enable DHCPv6 Server, DHCP Mode: Stateless, DNS Servers: Use DNS from ISP.
    Router Advertisement: Status: Enable, Advertise Mode: Unsolicited Multicast
    When I check the Summary page I see that although a have a proper working IPv4 connection, the IPv6 information is the following:
    WAN (Internet) Information (IPv6)
    Connection Time:                0 Days 00:07:10
    Connection Type:                Dynamic IP (DHCP)
    Connection State:               Connected
    IP Address:                        fe80::5a8d:9ff:fee2:f9d3/64
    Gateway:                           fe80::200:ff:fe00:0
    DNS Servers:
    which is of course wrong.
    Could someone please help me to configure this router according the Cisco IOS configuration file I linked on the top in order to have a working IPv6 connection?

    So, I did a WAN packet capture to see that type of DHCPv6 packets the router sends to the ISP in order to obtain an IPv6 address and I saw that the router is sending DHCPv6 solicitation packets of type IA_NA i.e. for Identity Association for Non-temporary Address. However, most ISPs that offer a dual stack IP4/IPv6 service, they use DHCPv6 Prefix Delegation in which case the router is expected to send DHCPv6 solicitation packets of type IA_PD i.e. for Identity Association for Prefix Delegation.
    Therefore, this router does not support DHCPv6 Prefix Delegation services with firmware 1.0.3.5 and as a result in practice it is only good for tunnel IPv6 connections.
    Are there any plans to provide support for Prefix Delegation?

  • Why can't Safari 5.1 prefer ipv6 vs ipv4?

    So prior to the installation of Lion, I had configured my network for ipv6 connectivity to the internet via Hurricane Electric Tunnel broker.  Simply put, it was amazing.  Now after the installation i've realized that my ipv6 support has slowed dramatically.  When I tested to see exactly why this took place, i recieved the following:
    It preferred ipv6 pre-lion, now its hot for ipv4, what gives?  So I tested Dual Stack connectivity and i got this:
    When i chose the ipV6 only test, I got this:
    There's a not below the results that state: "If your browser is able to connect to the IPv6-only Test, yet using the Dual-Stack Test returns a page with a red box stating that you are using IPv4, then your browser and/or IP stack in your machine are preferring IPv4 over IPv6, which is undesired/broken behavior."
    Since its obviously a Safari issue, Any idea how to correct this?

    The last five blocks of the IP Version 4 addresses have been handed over to the regional bodies that distribute them.
    Those five blocks, called /8s and which contain 16 million addresses each, are expected to be completely depleted by September 2011.
    The move to the new addressing scheme, IP version 6, is under way but could take years to complete.
    "This is one of the most important days in the internet's history," said Rod Beckstrom, head of net overseer Icann at a press conference called to mark the handing over of the final five blocks.
    "It is a point that the founders of the internet thought would occur far in the future," he said. "It gives us an opportunity to shift to an internet protocol that offers a pool so large that it is difficult even to imagine."
    IPv6 has a pool of addresses a billion, trillion times larger than the 4.3 billion that IPv4 can support.
    While that pool of 4.3 billion addresses was seen as plenty when the net was getting going, its recent growth has seen it get used up very quickly.
    The shift to IPv6 was needed, he said, to support the continuing growth of the net and its greater use by all kinds of connected devices.
    "The future of the internet and the innovation it fosters lies with IPv6," said Mr Beckstrom.
    Despite the imminent exhaustion of the IPv4 pool, few ISPs, companies, academic organisations and others have made the switch. A World IPv6 Day is being planned for 8 June that will give governments, companies and others the chance to test out the technology.
    Cisco, Verizon, Yahoo, Google, Facebook and many others have committed to testing IPv6 on 8 June.
    In the UK, the switch to the new addressing scheme might take years, said Philip Sheldrake, head of 6UK, an organisation set up to advise companies how to make the move.
    Most firms would upgrade equipment, routers, hubs and modems, as part of their "normal replenishment cycle", he said.
    Equipment that is going to be in use for years before being replaced could be fitted with "dual stack" systems that can handle both IPv4 and IPv6 addresses
    Some ISPs and others may take a more aggressive approach to the switch, said Mr Sheldrake.
    "There are automated approaches that involve some remote updating of firmware in equipment," he said.
    "The internet does not break when IPv4 is exhausted," said Mr Sheldrake explaining why this long term shift was feasible.
    "What we are looking at here is that some parts of the world that have less IPv4 will be more on the front foot of adopting v6 than the UK because we have some good v4 space," he said.

  • Convert from IPv6 to IPv4

    Hi,
    when using: request.getRemoteAddr() I get the ip in IPv6 format.
    But, I am using maxmind to get geo information, which needs ip in IPv4 format.
    How can I convert from IPv6 to IPv4?
    Thanks.

    I'm not too familiar with IP6, but I think it is controlled by the OS and hardware. Windows Vista, for example, uses ip6 by default, so you would need to switch to ip4 in order to get request.getRemoteAddr() to display as ip4 (such as it does running on my MacBook Pro)
    If you are trying to get ip4 for all clients that connect and you don't know their OS, you can try some third party freeware programs out there like IPConvert.

    does anyone have any ideas on what is not working and why ?

    Looks like an AT&T PPPOE connection - the addresses of those change all of the time. Make sure that the "Client IPv4 address" is correct at the HE side.
    You can update it with a URL, see http://fcartegnie.free.fr/articles/Hurricane%27s%20IPv6%20TunnelBroker%20Endpoin t%20ipv4%20address%20updater.html for details one endpoint updateing using just a URL.

  • How to Enable IPv6 Connection Permanently ?

    How to Enable IPv6 Connection Permanently ?
    I've searched Microsoft's websites for hours trying to enable IPv6 but no one seems to know.
    I've enabled IPv6 from the registry but it disables after restart.
    I think ESET Endpoint is disabling it.
    I have got IPv6 enabled on the Router.
    Please help.

    Hi,
    Microsoft already provide a hotfix to enable IPV6, you can access to the link below to download it for test.
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/929852
    Note: I made a test in Windows 8.1, these hotfix also works fine.

  • IPv6 plus IPv4 on Solaris 8/9

    Can IPv6 and IPv4 be enabled together on Solaris 8 or Solaris 9? If so can they be used inter changably in any fashion?
    Does introduction of IPv6 change any network cards?
    If a machine is enabled with IPv6 alone, then how will it interact with machines supporting IPv4?
    Thanks a lot in anticipation of your answers.

    Yes you can run the protocols together. They run on the same net card at the same time.
    They are not "interchangeable" as you put it. IPv6 is not compatible with IPv4 in the sense that a pure IPv6 host cannot communicate with a pure IPv4 host, which answers another of your questions I think.
    If you have a pure IPv4 box A and a pure IPv6 box B you need a gateway C that runs both protocols and can route between them.
    And yes, your network card is "changed", in that it now passes IPv4 and IPv6 packets up to the kernel.

    All of the Linksys devices currently support only Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4) addressing.  However, WRT610N and E4200 nominally support the latest Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) but these products are NOT yet IPv6 compliant.
    NOTE:  Future firmware releases of Linksys devices will be available to support IPv6.
    This information is OUTDATED.

  • IPv6 Connectivity limited ??

    I am wondering whether anyone can help me with this one please ?
    We have recently had massive problems with slow broadband speeds. We have home hub 1 so have had the hub for a while now and have never had a problem with speed until the last month or so.
    What I have noticed is that our wireless network connection status says that:
    Our IPv4 Connectivity is Internet and the IPv6 is limited..
    This I can see is the problem because when IPv6 is limited the internet is very slow, ie videos are impossible to watch, however IPv6 normally says Local??
    Any ideas how to change this back to local from limited ?? and any ideas why this connectivity keeps changing ?
    Thanks

    Unless I am mistaken, Home Hub 1 will only deal with IP version 4. Even the connection into the Internet is IP version 4. IP version 6, even though implemented by some Broadband companies such as in France, is not used by BT.
    The DHCP on your Home Hub, this is what gives your computer its network address cannot even issue an IPv6 address.
    It is most likely that this is something that is being generated by your PC. If for some reason you are running  IPv6 within your network, the router into the internet will strip off the first part of the IP address so that it is now an IPv4 address.
    If you believe it is IPv6 causing a problem, you can turn it off in the software on your PC. I presume it is XP or later as that was the first to offer IPv6 in addition to IPv4. I would be guessing where it is located on your machine but typically it will be in control panel and network.

  • Filtering/Dropping IPv6 on IPv4-only Devices?

    Hi All -
    Got an interesting requirement that (for something seemingly simple) has been remarkably challenging to locate a solution for...
    Having a problem with random IPv6 traffic showing up on the enterprise LAN from time to time and freaking out certain network-connected devices that don't know how to process it (CPU 100%, etc.). So I'm looking for a way to filter/drop that IPv6 traffic at the network edge. I can certainly set the core 6500's not route (or even ignore) IPv6, but that still doesn't stop it from running around WITHIN a VLAN.
    Is there a way that a IPv4-only device can identify IPv6 traffic (by a protocol type code or something along that line) so that it can be filtered/dropped before it even makes it onto the backbone?
    Thanks in advance!
    Mike

    Mike-
    Good question! The first thing I thought of was VACL's, but VACLs w/IPv6 are not supported on the 6000 series switch.

    Are the 6500's your access layer? Are they your L3 gateway? Is it possible for you to find the device(s) running IPv6 and correct them?

  • 7.3.1 firmware breaks 6to4 IPv6 connectivity

    Can others confirm that the 7.3.1 firmware breaks connectivity to various 6to4 sites? I reverted to 7.2.1 and my connectivity is restored. I'm a Comcast customer in the USA, so the Airport "helpfully" prevents me from using a static tunnel with DHCP-assigned WAN addresses, thus I'm stuck with 6to4.
    It appears as though the 7.3.1 firmware drops inbound 6to4-encapsulated traffic if the IPv4 wrapper source address is not 192.88.99.1, the 6to4 relay anycast address per RFC 3068. Whilst it's correct to send to this address (and only a minor irritation that it can't be overriden) it's wrong to insist that return traffic come from this, since it's effectively a "virtual" address, by virtue of being anycast and advertised by any helpful IPv6 network operator. It's good practice for 6to4 relays returning traffic to use their "real" IPv4 address for accountability.
    Examples of broken sites:
    https://6to4.nro.net/ (so no reverse DNS registration possible)
    http://www.ja.net/
    http://www.exim.org/
    Return traffic goes via the 6to4 relay handling 2002::/16 which is nearest, IPv6-network-wise, to the node sending back the traffic; so traceroute6 starts showing "* * *" at the point where the remote side is using a 6to4 relay that believes in accountability and is thus rejected by 7.3.1 firmware.
    This is all by my observations, with the help of some IPv6 network operators and various looking-glass traceroutes. The lack of ability to sniff external traffic with an Airport somewhat hinders local diagnosis.
    Can anyone confirm or deny this? Or offer hope of this regression being fixed?
    Thanks,
    -Phil

    Hi Phil,
    I'm just confirming that I have noticed the same problem. With the help of a colleague, we setup two AEs (AirPort Extreme) at different sites. Each had a global IPv4 address so it could give its children "2002::/16" addresses (note, if the AE doesn't get a global IPv4 address on its WAN, it won't respond to router solicitations on the LAN). We then attempted to get a child from one network to contact a child in the other, but failed because the destination AE would return an ICMP "destination unreachable" message. If we downgrade the destination AE to 7.2.1, then communication works perfectly. The behaviour from version 7.2.1 seems like what's intended for a 6to4 tunnel, so I'm puzzled why the Apple engineers would take this out.
    Regards,
    Shaun

  • OpenVPN IPv6 client, IPv4 server, Port forwarding?

    I'd like to use an anonymous VPN with OpenVPN, but my new ISP only gives IPv6 addresses and IPv4 only via DualStack lite (4in6).
    As a consequence, my machine is only reachable with IPv6 Port Forwarding.
    The VPN-Provider only supports IPv4.
    Now the question:
    Can I reach my machine through IPv6 Port forwarding with OpenVPN and get a static IPv4 and Port forwarding(v4) from him?
    As I see it:
    I should be able to establish a connection with the VPN. I get a static address and the provider is forwarding the ports. Because I made the connection TO him it doesn't matter which ports are open on my side. Right?
    Or is it the other way around, that both need ports that can be forwarded?

    I guess you mean forwarding from WAN (server) to LAN (client) (both static IPs)?
    (Server must be your Internet gw/router.)
    NAT requires the ipfw firewall running so you need to add these ports (TCP? and/or UDP?) to the "allowed in" list for the server public/WAN IP. Turn on logging of denied packets to see what happens.
