EA6300 Random Disconnects/Reconnects

I have a newish EA6300 router, and the connection will randomly but often (every 15min or so) drop for a second and then reconnect.  The firmware is 1.1.40.153731.  I have two laptops in the house and this issue happens on both computers.  I also have another wireless router (Zoom N150) and when I connect the computers to that router the connection is stable and never drops.   Any idea why I'm getting these random disconnect/reconnect issues with the EA6300? I would very much like to only use the Linksys router because of its superior power, range and ability to handle more devices and traffic, as well as eventual AC capability.  However I can't use it as a primary connections because of this issue.

Thanks for the reply.  I had already changed the channel and it did seem to improve things.  I still get disconnects but they are MUCH less frequent.  My next step will be to move the Linksys router away from another wireless router that is nearby that may be causing interference. I have another question.  I have used inSSIDer to examine the signal strength of the wireless networks around my home.  This is what helped me to know what channel to switch the Linksys router to.  But I've noticed that inSSIDer shows two networks when the Linksys router is on.  I do not have a 5ghz wireless card in my computer, so only the 2.4ghz band shows as a network.  One of the networks is my network that I have named, but the other network is unnamed (no SSID), and this mystery network will occassionally get a big drop in signal strength.  I have attached a screen shot.  The blue line is my main (named) personal network, an the yellow line is the mystery network that turns on when the router is on.  You can see the downward spike in that yellow line that indicates a momentary loss of signal in that mystery network.   Any idea why two networks show up?  And if their coming from the same router, why would one lose signal while the other doesn't?  Again, I don't have an AC network card, so I'm not seeing a 5ghz band so the second one can't be that.

    Hi,
If you mean you don't want to Disable SSL you need to know that when the AIM SSL server Fails, iChat resorts to a NON SSL login and iChat has to be Manually reset to use SSL when the server comes back on Line. It does not happen automatically.
If you mean it did not work then also try deleting com.apple.iChat.AIM.plist and restart iChat so it is recreated.
The file is found in your Home Folder/Library/Preferences.

  • Network drives randomly disconnecting, unable to reconnect

I have been having an issue with network drives randomly disconnecting. When I try and reconnect using the Connect to Server dialog, the share is greyed out. My current workaround has been to open up terminal and run umount /Volume/Share_Name, and I am able to connect again afterwards. This is happening multiple times a day, and across multiple servers. I have poked around the forums and seen some people with similar issues, but the solution of connecting with cifs:// instead of smb:// has not made any difference.

which ultimately means apple didn't do enough testing before releasing the last patch
This is not always, and may not be, the case. What many don't realise is that many 3rd party developers stray from the 802.11 series specifications in an attampt to boost speed and get one up on their competitors. For instance D-Link, amongst others, use a short preamble setting by default in some of their routers to improve performance. However, this is non-standard and when it comes across wireless network adapters that don't support this then you have problems. They assume that their network adapters are being used for "maximum speed and compatibility". Whether Apple should or should not support a short preamble is another subject altogether.
However, I do agree with you in that Apple should put more work into their Airport software.

  • My phone will randomly disconnect from the wifi and when I retype the password it says it is wrong. It will eventually work but I have to wait for a message to pop up on my screen to allow me to retype the wifi password.

When I first got my phone it worked perfectly fine with the wifi. Although later on I began to have problems connecting it. It will randomly disconnect from the wifi and when I try to retype the password it tells me it is wrong, although it is right. It will eventually work but in its own time, a message will pop up and allow me to type in the password and it will work. But sometimes it takes an hour or more and sometime it takes 10 minutes. I've seen where other people have had this problem but I don't know how to fix it. I'm not sure if it's an issue with my phone or if it's with my wifi. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Does this happen with all Wi-Fi hotspots?  A specific one?
Have you tried forgetting the Wi-Fi connection and then reconnecting to it?
What about power cycling the Wi-Fi router?

  • WRT54G V8 randomly disconnects/"powers off"

Well, I'm having an issue here. I got a WRT54G V8 two days ago, so it's brand new. Anyway, I have this problem where the router randomly "powers off". By that, I mean that the power LED (orange light) goes off for a few seconds, then comes back on. The other lights stay on. When this happens, everything will get disconnected from the internet - my computer, my Wii, etc. However, everything go back to normal quickly after. I also had to disconnect/reconnect it once because nothing would be able to connect on the internet anymore, and the Linksys EasyLink software seemed to be convinced that I changed the router. After that happened, I decided to upgrade it to the latest firmware version. While this last problem didn't happen ever since, the power led still goes off randomly and I still get disconnected from the internet. Other than that, everything works like a charm and XP never gives me any network errors or anything of the sort. It's just that this issue is quite annoying when you're gaming and makes me wonder if I bought a defective one...
    Any help?
Oh, and in case you need more information... the computer has a wired connection to it, as my PS2, my Wii uses a wireless connection, and so does my DS when I use it. When the power light goes off, everything gets disconnected, wired or not. Also, I'm on a cable internet connection, the modem is a Motorola SURFboard SB5100.
Message Edited by Kelmster on 02-07-2008 12:45 PM

Okay, now I'm getting quite a bit annoyed. The problem keeps coming back randomly. Sometimes, it'll happen once or twice in a day and fixes itself quickly. But other times, like today, I feel like throwing it out of the window. Plus, I've been reading a lot of topics in here, and a lot of people seem to have the same issue as me. The orange light doesn't go off anymore, but the internet connection is being dropped randomly with no warnings, and the internet light does stay on. Power is not flashing, everything seems well when I look at the router. When the internet goes off, I can still access the router. I tried pretty much everything I saw in here, from disconnecting it and the modem for like a half hour to changing the IPs (gave everything on my network a static IP, even tried changing the router's IP), but that only fixes it for a couple of minutes, then bam, the problem comes back. Also did a factory reset, and yes the firmware is updated, but sadly, the problem is still there. It was there from day 1 and it won't go away.  I have no idea if it has to do with my Wii accessing the internet wirelessly while it's on WiiConnect24 (it connects randomly to check for updates). It would make sense if it did that everytime, but sometimes I play online on the Wii and the internet connection still works on my wired PC.
Seriously, is there anyone with a clue? I'm seriously thinking of returning it. I bought it to replace a noisy no-name wired router that seemed to like to make me mad. However, the Linksys one is giving me MORE problems! Is this a firmware or hardware issue here? Because I see a lot of people with the same issue, which makes me wonder if exchanging it for another one will actually change anything! I usually figure out problems by myself, but I have to say that this one has me clueless here. And, so far, in many, if not all, the cases where I was clueless about a problem, it was because of faulty hardware/software. The no-name router never dropped connections, and yet I always feared that it would explode in my face. But seriously, this is getting ridiculous. At this point, I actually wish that the problem is something stupid I forgot about, some setting that's hiding from me and that I have to activate/deactivate... I just wonder if exchanging it will fix the problem here.
Is there anyone who actually managed to fix that issue? If so, how did you do it? If you didn't, post here too, we need to make Linksys aware of that issue. Disconnecting the power every half hour or so is not a good solution. I hope it's just a firmware issue that could be fixed soon...

  • Wrt600n / wpc600n random disconnect issues

    hi,
i've been running the new AP / cards for a few weeks now, and am seeing some weird behavior on them.
when connected to the AP using either vista (using windows to manage wireless setting), or in xp (using the linksys utility), i'm getting random disconnects. the wireless connection will just drop from 1-10 seconds, then reconnect on it's own.
for these connections, i am forcing the AP and cards to use the n band.
the AP is set to N mode only, and all other settings on the AP are set to Auto. the clients are using all default settings as well, and this issues occurs during web surfing, email, etc. and is repeatable.
    any suggestions?

  • CUPC random disconnect

    Hi,
I have a few people who have been saying that their CUPC client randomly disconnects and they can't reconnect for a long time, even through reboots.  I have a feeling that it's somehow an LDAP timeout, but I don't know.  Regular ethernet and phone connectivity remains normal.  I have attached the problem report from one of the people.  Can anyone decipher what might be happening?

Do you happen to have a timestamp when you saw this issue?  There are quite a few log files in here.

  • Second Exchange Mailbox Random Disconnects In Outlook 2010

We have our users temporarily using two exchange mailboxes in Outlook 2010.  The primary account is fine (exchange is local) but the second account we recently adds seems to randomly disconnect and not automatically reconnect.  The fix at the moment
is to reboot the computer and everything works fine but this is obviously annoying to the users.
Anyone else run into this issue or have a suggestion?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
I recommend using separate profiles for each account if they are using a same one.
When the second mailbox cannot connect to Exchange server, it will leave some information/warning/error in the App log. Please post the details if there is any related content.
    Thanks

  • WAP321 random disconnecting clients

    Hi all,
I'm having problems with my WAP321 that is randomly disconnecting clients. It's not disconnecting all clients, but just a couple of clients. It's random which clients get disconnected and it can be different clients that will be disconnected when it happens a couple times, but they do get disconnected at the same time.
    My setup:
    Cisco ASA5505
    |
    Cisco WAP321
    |
Cisco 7925 phone - iPhone - Macbook - three IP cam's (different brands) - and some more clients
Last time it occurred I just for sure changed DHCP server from Cisco ASA5505 to two windows servers, now it happened again, my 7925 started beeping (enabled SSID monitoring on it so it alerts when it isn't connected to my Callmanager) and my iPhone couldn't connect to the SSID. My Macbook was still just connected. Retrieved a diagnostics report and checked the logging, rebooted the WAP321 and everything started connecting again.
Noticed screens are scaled so hope it's readable...
The MAC address is my iphone. I turned off the 7925 because the beeping was annoying so no logging from the 7925 trying to connect.
    Logging is saying:
assoc request from [mac] BSSID [bssid] SSID LEVELS
STA [mac] deauthed from BSSID [bssid] reason 3: STA is leaving IBSS or ESS
There is nothing wrong with the coverage, the WAP321 is about ten feet from the iPhone and Cisco 7925 phone
Can anybody help me how to best troubleshoot this issue. I'm not familiar with the troubleshoot/debug options available for the WAP321

    Dear Wesley,
Thank you for reaching the Small Business Support Community.
There is an opened caveat on the latest firmware release, version 1.0.4.2; CSCue24521:
-Symptom: Some clients may lose wireless connection when authenticating via Captive portal.
    -Workaround: Reconnect wireless devices.
If this is not the case I'd like to know if you have tried using a different IEEE 802.11 standard, same as a different authentication type.  If you are not running the latest firmware release I then suggest you to, and something else I've seen from experience that fixes similar issues is to reset to factory conditions and reconfigure manually.
    http://software.cisco.com/download/release.html?mdfid=284152656&softwareid=282463166&release=1.0.1.10
I hope you find this information helpful and please do not hesitate to reach me back of there is any further assistance I may help you with.

  • Please help! iMac randomly disconnects from internet. Wi-fi via BT hub. I am baffled by all of the suggestions when I google this problem! Any simple solution? Thanks!

Please Help! My brand new imac randomly disconnects from the internet. We have a BT hub - wi-fi. I have googled this issue and see that it is relatively common and it is incredibly frustrating. sadly, I have been unable to wade through the suggestions others have had as to how to solve the problem as i have no technical knowledge and am basically baffled by the list of suggestions. Please can anyone explain why this happens and what to do? It is fairly simple to reconnect each time but it is driving me mad having to. It generally happens when the computer is asleep but sometimes in the middle of doing something. Thanks!!!!!!

What frequency, security are you running? It would have been helpful if you specified in the first post.
Did you create a new Location in System Preferences->Network pane, Location pull-down. Create a new custom named Location. Then after you create that new Location click on the 'Apply' button to save that new custom named Location. See if that helps.
Lastly a lot of people have reported that WEP in lion is problmatic and it would be better to use WPA2 if you can.

  • Apple TV Randomly Disconnects From iTunes While Streaming Videos

    Hey All,
Anyone having an issue where your Apple TV randomly disconnects from your iTunes on another computer while streaming videos from it? Randomly, on different shows and movies, I have had it do it quite a few times.
In the beginning, after it would disconnect, within a few seconds, it would reconnect to iTunes and then I would have to navigate back to what I was watching and and resume it. Now, it will disconnect, and then I will have to quit iTunes on my iMac and then start it up again.
I am curious if it is an issue with the wireless adapter on the ATV because when it happens, it looks like it losses complete connection with the iTunes and then reconnects to the net only after. Then I would need to restart iTunes on my iMac to continue watching my show.
This was happening before the recent update and continues after the update as well.
    Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks!

You're talking about those WIFI bridges they make for xbox 360s that connect the 360 ethernet to a wifi adapter, bridging it?
That is a possible solution, but I will definitely check with Apple first, hoping it will be a no money solution (I am a grad student, every dollar helps).
My apartment is two rooms, my iMac being in another room, so that wouldn't work. The Wifi extender will probably be my only hope if Apple is not cool with the helping a brother out.

  • OS X Lion - iChat keeps randomly disconnecting me!

I am using OS X Lion and I love iChat. It combines both simplicity and powerful usage in a nicely designed app. I don't want to use any other alternatives. I want my iChat to work again.
Has anyone been facing the same problem ? iChat keeps randomly disconnecting!

    Hi,
In previous version of iChat that could log into AIM with (or without) SSL had two Server names that used to show depending if you used ther SSL or not.
The names of the server used to change as you selected or deselected SSL
SSL was added in iChat 4 to the AIM  logins
    The server name was slogin.oscar.aol.com
It was known that this server seemed to be less stable than the "regular" Server (login.oscar.aol.com)
This may have been due to the lesser number of server involved with any SSL Logins and any drop at the server end was therefore more noticeable.
It is also known that AIM require that any dropped SSL connection is manually restarted and should not rely on Automatic reconnection.
This generally means that if you are using SSL then you will need to do a manual reset and restart of iChat if the connection is lost.
(hence my suggestion earlier that SSL be turned Off for AIM logins until the Servers had become more stable.
iChat 6 (in Lion Also automatically changes any account that logs in to AIM to the api.oscar.aol.com server.
It appears that this server can handle SSL and non SSL logins (there is no name change).
You can manually change iChat to use the older server variants.

  • WRT54G v5 Randomly Disconnects

Hi, I have been having this problem for the last couple of weeks and am not sure what the problem is. My WRT54G v5 router is connected via Ethernet cable from a cable modem to 2 PCs. Lately, the router randomly disconnects(i.e. there is no set amount of time in between disconnections - the interval has been as small as 30 seconds and as large as several hours), then reconnects automatically. Every time it disconnects it reconnects itself. However, I'm pretty sure this is not typical behavior and would like to fix it - especially as it severely limits online gaming. When I take the router out of the loop and connect either computer straight to the cable modem, I have no problems no matter how long I seem to be online. I have updated the router to the latest firmware version and that has no effect. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions, I would be very grateful.`Thank you for your time.
Message Edited by Hodges on 06-06-2008 04:59 PM

I have already upgraded the firmware to v1.02.5 build 002, Jan. 9, 2008, and I haven't noticed an improvement. Like I said, it's completely random. Some days it won't disconnect at all. Other days it disconnects fairly often. But I have no problems when I bypass the router and connect straight to the cable modem. Thank you for the response. If you have any other thoughts, I'm open to suggestions.

  • Dial-up randomly disconnects.

I use an IMac G5 & dial-up internet via the built in modem. Ever since I upgraded to OS 10.5 I have had this problem. I can usually count on a random disconnect occurring within the first 15 minutes of going on-line. After reconnecting I can usually go for a longer period.
About a minute before the disconnect, all network activity comes to a halt. After the disconnect I get the alert message: "The modem has unexpectedly hung up. Please verify your settings & try again".
The hardware test didn't uncover anything. I also installed OS 10.4.11 on an external drive & when I boot from it I never have this problem so I believe this to be a software problem with 10.5.
In the earlier revisions of 10.5 I would also frequently get a kernal panic requiring a reboot. I believe this to be a related problem because these only occurred when on-line. With the later revisions, the kernal panics have become less frequent. So far I haven't had a kernal panic with 10.5.6 but the problem of random disconnects remains.
    Anyone else had this problem?

    Thanks for your suggestions.
I installed 10.5 from the original DVD I received when I purchased leopard on an empty volume on my external drive which I erased just for this purpose. I used just the default installation options. The problem of random disconnects continues. As one of the disconnects was taking place I also got a kernal panic. As I noted in my first post, it is the early versions of 10.5 that are most prone to kernal panics & I suppose if I also upgraded this install to 10.5.6 the kernal panics would go away.
Do you have any other suggestions?
