EA6400 Problem FTP USB Storage
When I do not restrict the acces to the files I can reach them by FTP
When I do restrict the acces I can not reach them anymore
After usin my login I got this screen
Like you see: the Transcend is not visible.
Yes I have the rights to see and write on the USB Storage.
Anybody a suggestion?
Solved!
Go to Solution.
Use Username: admin and Password: the router password (admin by default). Don't use your Linksys Smart WiFi account password.
Are you able to access the drive locally using the Remi user? Did you made sure that you checked the Transcend share when you created the Remi user?
Try Chadster's suggestion by creating a new user and clear the browser. Or you can try using another computer.

I have a WD Mybook 3tb drive setup as my usb storage, and it is very unreliable. At times it works fine, but is unusble a large majority of the time. As in, it can't access a single file on the drive. It doesn't seem to be related to access either, as it sometimes happens under heavy usage, other times accessing a file at a time. The drive had no problems when plugged into a computer.
All of my settings are default, no secure access, no media server or ftp server, no media prioritization.I recommend trying this, it maybe trying to catalog that size of information and may take a while. Do a reset sometime at night before you go to bed, Set up the router again and enable the drive on the router. Let the router and the drive be alone over night and check back in the morning. Let the router do it's cataloging of the drive. It should be done by morning. Look at the drive light in the morning. If it's still blinking, the router maybe still accessing the drive and it's contents.
The more you put on the drive the longer it may take the router to catalog the drive and it's contents. I personally don't use USB drives on the router unless they are small drives. I prefer using wired LAN NAS for any storage solutions. -
WRT350N FTP access to USB storage
I have my WRT350N setup. all computers within my LAN can access my usb storage device. I can not access my usb storage device using a computer outside my LAN.
if you log on to 99.225.89.229:8080 it will ask you for user id and pass word to log into my router.
if you try to log on to 99.225.89.229:21 it wont even connect asking you for a user id and password.
my guess is the router is not allowing port 21 to be accessed, but I'm not sure. Any one know how to fix this problem?Upgrade the router with a latest firmware first..
Once its upgraded reset the router for 30 sec and then reconfigure the router again..
Open the FTP port 21 on the port range triggering option.
Basically port range triggering is for the incomming ports and when you try to access the USB from outside LAN then this port 21 will help you with it.. -
Been using an Avastor HDX-800 for storage and backup, also a SUPERDISK for smaller stuff; recently the SUPERDISK does not appear on the screen, and the light blinks while you hear it spin, also the Avastor has started to have the same problem, both USB conncected, both worked well before, but both now spinning, blinking, and not showing up on the screen as before,
Interestingly they both appear in the System Profiler, but just not working the same as before
I have tried other USB ports, but the same responce, yes I did reset the PRAM, but no benefit, still the same problem
my usb devices are: keyboard, mouse, printer, SD-USB-M3, and LaCie d2 DVDRW:
the mouse and printed are plugged into the keyboard: i have tried to move, these around, and have even tried just the mouse, printer and SD-USB-M3, but still the same problem
here is a cut and paste of the current "System Profiler>Hardware>USB" (usb device tree)

WRT600N USB Storage Problems Solved
For a couple of years, I've been living with all the problems others have reported with the WRT600N USB storage - lost connections, permissions problems, rebooting the router to recover access to the USB drive, etc. I solved my problems, mostly, by switching to a DLink DIR-655 router. I assume other routers in the Dlink family that support USB devices will perform similarly.
My main problem seemed to be interference from the microwave, which is in an open kitchen/keeping room arrangement in my house. However, the bottom line is that any time I lost wireless connectivity to the router, due to the microwave or unknown causes, I'd lose access to the USB drive. This meant a trip upstairs to power cycle the router and the USB drive several times a day.
With the Dlink, I still sometimes lose wireless connectivity due to the microwave or unknown causes, but not as often. Sometimes, but not always, this will cause me to lose the USB drive access. If I do need to reboot the router, I can do so from the web based interface, something that was not possible with the WRT600N, so no more trips upstairs to perform this operation. I also find have a stronger wireless signal in my work location with the Dlink.
Dlink uses a SharePort software utility to manage the USB connection and this has to be installed on all PC's that want access to the USB device. SharePort makes a USB device appear to be a local device attached directly to the computer you're using and you can attach external drives/printers/probably USB hubs. (I've experimented only with an external USB drive.) Because of this, however, only one computer can attach to the USB device at a time - not a problem for me, but you need to be aware. The software has a mechanism for requesting access to the USB device from one computer, when the device is in use by another computers. You can also set it to automatically connect to the USB device if its available, to try a reconnect if connection is lost, and to automatically run a program when the USB device connects. Dlink says SharePort will support FAT or NTFS formatted drives and there's no known limitation on the drive size.
Dlink support doesn't seem much better than here - it took about three weeks for me to get an answer on the external drive size and formatting options. There are plenty of complaints on the Dlink support site about poor support, poor performance of SharePort, etc. So, all I can say is their router/USB device sharing has worked much better for me than my Linksys WRT600N ever worked.Welcome to the WRT600N nightmare. The Storage Link is poorly documented, and the firmware controlling it has issues. Basically, it will corrupt file date/times stamps whenever you copy files onto the attached drive. It has also been known to be a bit flaky about maintaining the drive as a connected/mapped drive. Backup programs may have difficulty accessing the drive via Storage Link. Depending on the file format you use, you may encounter file size limitations on the Storage Link drive.
I, personally, gave up after a few days of these issues mentioned above and bought extra USB hard drives for each computer in the house rather than try and use the Storage Link as a NAS.
What O/S are you using on your computer? I can try and walk you through the setup.

[solved] USB storage devices problem
Hello everyone. I have MSI Wind U270 and recently I've moved from Ubuntu 11.04 to Arch. I really like Arch so far but I have one quite big problem and I can't find any solution, so I hope someone here could help me.
After I'd installed Arch, I tried to copy some file from/to USB flash drive. After just few seconds, transfer failed with information about I/O errors and USB flash drive disappeared along with any other USB drives connected at the same time but logitech usb mouse and keyboard continue to work.
My first thought was that it's simply broken USB drive, but same thing was happening also when I tried to move some files from/to any other USB storage device that I have.
Here is sample dmesg output after I connect device:

Next I thought – computer is broken. But it simply couldn't be true because in Ubuntu it's working.
I wanted to test if USB transfer is working in other distros, so I downloaded few and tried:
Ubuntu 11.04 – everything is working
Ubuntu 11.10 – it's not working, exactly same errors as in Arch
Ubuntu 12.04 Alpha 2 – it's not working
Mint 11 – it's working
Mint 12 – it's not working
So one thing in common that I can think of is fact that USB transfer is working in distros using kernel <3.0 and is broken in those using kernel >=3.0.
In dmesg output I can see ehci_hcd errors. When I remove this module before moving files, than everything is working fine apart from very slow transfer but it's obvious.
I really hope that someone will be able to help with my problem. I don't know if it's some bug or it's just some configuration error.
EDIT: problems were caused by rts5139 module (card reader). Blacklisting that module solved all the problems.

Problem about EA6700 USB Storage
I am using a USB2.0 disk on the EA6700(plug in the usb2.0 slot of the router).
I can copy file to the usb disk from computer and play movie file on computer directly from the usb disk.
But when I want to delete the file in the usb disk. The windows7 system pop up an alert said I need some kind of authority to delete the file.(the file that I just copy into usb disk from computer few minutes ago)
The alert window shows:You need the Linksys\admin authority to delete this file.
But sometimes the alert is:You need the Unix User\admin authority to delete this file.
So I go to check the router config.
USB Storage > Folder Access > Secure Folder Access(already turned ON) and there are 2 authorized users:admin(read & write) and guest(read only)
USB Storage > FTP Server(already turned ON) and "FTP Port 21" and "Encoding UTF-8"
USB Storage > Media Server(already turned ON)
Now I have to plug in the usb disk on computer when I want to delete file.
How can I directly delete it when it`s on the router? How can I have the authority?
Thanks very much! You may want to contact Microsoft on how to create a login account in your computer. Make sure that the router's Folder and File Sharing was configured properly. Check this link to know more about the USB storage options of the router:

I have ea4500 with the latest avaiable firmware. smart wi fi, I have tried several USB pens and hard disk but I cannot save a file over 3.1 mb to to the shareport device. the routers main page shows the correct storage space available, but the computer always shows 3.1 mb available I can access files saved on the stick no problem, but i cannot add files
osx mountain lion, all Usb storage device are formatted to FAT
please help me I'm desperate!!!Are you having the same issue saving files using other computers? Check if this is the case and use a windows- based computer for isolation. Is Secure Folder Access ON and have you set authorized users for your storage device? You might be using a log-in that only has read access as you are not able to add files. See Tested HDD and Printers for the EA4500. These devices are guaranteed to work with the EA4500. If your drive is not on the list, there is a slim chance that the storage feature will not work (properly).

Hey,
Just setup my E3000 router and all was good.
Connected a FAT formatted HHD to it and all went well.
Disconnected the HDD and uploaded my music and movies.
When I connect the drive and click the "Create Share" button, the dialog comes up as normal but when I hit the "Submit" button the browser shows me this message:
"Unable to load the webpage because the server sent no data."
As if I have lost connection to the router. For about a minute or two I can't access the router.
Any ideas? I'm on Mac OS X 10.6.7 if that makes any difference.
Thanks guys!I think you can try to reset the router and reconfigure it.
Press and hold the reset button on the router for 30 seconds. Release the reset button and wait for 30 seconds. Power cycle the router and reconfigure it.
Follow this link to configure the USB storage connected to the router. -

Sometimes my pc detects the tablet but I can't open the local disk assigned.
Please help meHi
Welcome To Lenovo Community
You may need to install the correct drivers for USB
http://www.tinybeetle.us/A1_USB_Driver_20110816.zip
Extract that to a folder and then point windows to that folder when it does the driver search.

EA4500 Mac OS X Lion and USB storage
Hello everybody, I have EA4500 and usb had drive attached to router.
Ok, I can acces USB storage through FTP on my Mac OS X, I can acces it through smb in Windows 7 (running on the same macbook in vmware) but i can't acces it through smb directly from mac os (finder).
I tried finder-->Go-->connect to server and entered smb://192.168.111.1/Data or smb://admin:[email protected]/Data anyway i had error "The share does not exist on the server. Please check the share name, and then try again."
Also, I installed XBMC for MAC and XBMC can acces to storage by smb.
Where I am wrong?
PS. Drive formatted as HFS+ MBP early 2011 (OS X Lion or OS X Mountain Lion GM doesnt matter dont working in both). Connected to EA4500 by ethernet (wifi connection dont work too)Hi please check on this link:http://forums.buffalotech.com/t5/Storage/Unable-to-access-network-drive-with-OS-X-10-7-Lion/td-p/955..., this may help the problem that you are having right now.

E4200 USB Storage Issue - Connection drops / router hangs
I'm having issues with maintaining a reliable connection to the USB drive connected to my new E4200. Here are the situation:
(1) I can successfully share the drive and map it from any computer on the network as expected
(2) After mapping the drive, I try to copy files/folder to the mapped drive. It starts off ok, but within a few seconds/minutes, I'll begin getting the message "the specified network name is no longer available". The drive status will show "disconntected" or "reconnecting"
(3) When this happens, the router will often stop accepting new connections (i.e. the DHCP function stops working). However, some of the computer that are connected continue to work / have internet access.
(4) Restarting the router (i.e. pulling the power and plugging it back in) gets things working again. Things are good until I try to map the drive and begin copying files again.
Here's some other parameter info:
(a) I'm running the latest (only) firmware available: 1.0.00 build 13
(b) Per Linksys support, I've reflashed the firmware. Didn't make any difference
(c) I'm working in a wired environment (this is not a wirelss issue...although it happens via wireless the same way)
(d) I'm running Win XP SP3 (have also tried on Vista HE 64...same results)
(e) The USB disk is a Seagate FreeAgent 1.5 TB (which is on the list of compatible devices for this router)
(f) I do most of my work at the command line with NET USE commands. The files are being copied via ROBOCOPY and or XCOPY. Just basic scripting. Note: I get the same results if I use Windows Explorer to map/copy files.
(g) I've validated the Seagate drive is not the issue by plugging in the the computer and using it for several days. Have had no issues copying files to it It's formatted as NTFS. Chkdsk and SeaTools show no issues with the drive.
(h) I am copying large volumes of data (i.e. entire folders of movies, backups of "USERS" folder, etc.).
(i) It's not any one paritcular file or folder this issue occurs on. It will make a little progress, then flake out. Upon restarting, it will make a little more, then flake out, etc.
(j) Just to be safe, I turned off the sleep mode/spin down option on the FreeAgent drive to ensue that wasn't the problem.
(k) I haven't made any elaborate router settings (haven't changed many defaults). Haven't turned on FTP, Media Server functions, etc. I've just done some basic things like (1) change the ssid (2) set up some DHCP reservations (3) changed the security to WPA2 (4) changed admin password (5) set up port forwarding for two apps. I've not created any policies, turned on guest accounts, enabled logging, etc.
(l) I am doing all of the above with an admin account (on the router, I created an admin user acccount for myself). I've been careful to always map the drive with that userid/password.
Is anyone else having reliability issues with access to thier attached USB storage. I was very hopeful that the storage attached to the router would be readily available. I'm not expecting or needing great performance, but do need it to be "always on" for the purposes of sharing files and executing backups. Eventually, I would like to use some of the other features of the router (streaming video the PS3 and external FTP access for example). However, for now, I just want the attached storage to work.
Thanks in advance for your advice.oops, well now i see your full question. i asked you some ?s in the other thread you posted in.. but they seemed to be answered here..
ok, solely speaking about this E42 router, i have had it for 2 weeks now and i had a buffalo 500gb drive on the usb port. i had all sorts of junk on the drive..just random files, etc, and the ones that were supported by the PS3 would stream fine form the drive. i even have a sony BD player (s770) and its able to see the files and drive and stream. the PS3 is wired and the BD player is wireless. i have a laptop (wireless) and it has the same results.
last night i purchased a seagate go flex 2TB and plan to ONLY put media type files on this drive and try and clean things up and stop being lazy.. so far i have transferred a FEW small video and audio files from a wired computer with zero issues.
now let me ask, when you are transferring these huge files, are you like copying a folder and pasting it onto the mapped seagate drive? or are you doing individual files, etc? i dont have a folder with a bunch of GBs of files but i will try and see if i can reproduce the problem you see.
however thus far with the few small media files i have transferred on this new go flex 2TB drive, they have all transferred over. im talking about a couple GBs worth -ish... -
USB storage with WRT610N....help!
After spending 4 hours (no exageration) with Linksys Level 2 tech support I am at my wits end....
I just purchased a WRT610N and want to use the USB storage feature to backup my primary desktop. Here's the specifics:
Desktop is an older Dell XPS runnings XP SP3. Desktop has three logons....for myself and my kids.
I'd also like each desktop logon to be able to access the router USB storage feature so that we have a common place for pictures, etc.
I have an office laptop and I would like this to access the storage device
Eventually I will be adding more computers to the network for my kids.
I'm also interested in using the FTP access to get to the files on the storage device when I am away from home.
Through 3 separate tech support calls, each tech tried a different approach to get this to work. Nothing worked. I want to start from scratch.... What is the best way to accomplish what I want to do? After suffering through the pain, is the WRT610N a good solution or should I return it to Amazon and do this some other way?
A final note, tech support did upgrade the WRT610N's firmware to 1.00.00.18.
Thanks in advance for your help!jal4680 wrote:

The harsh reality is that the results for people trying to use the Storage Link function have been mixed, at best. Especially in trying to utilize it for a "backuP' function. The kernel used to manage the Storage Link is apparently unix/linux based, and has some difficulty playing nice with Windows based backup utilities. Additionally, there have been reports that the connectivity to the attached devices is, at times, poor. Finally, there are issues with file corruption (date/time stamps, specifically). There have been no firmware updates to deal with these issues. If your primary need is for an attached NAS solution, I would strongly recommend looking at other devices for that solution. -

Last edited by nigg (2009-08-11 14:14:57)I'm also having this problem. It's happening with my USB flash disk. I was almost buying another one when I tried it with Windows Vista on the same machine and it worked ok, then I tried Arch Linux (with kernel 2.6.30.5) on another machine and got the same error. After that I tried Ubuntu and it worked ok. Seems that Arch's kernel doesn't like my USB flash disk.
