EA6400 Question. DHCP always sets router IP as first DNS server

Subj, is it ok? DNS server 10.2.2.1 removal from list does not changes situation.
DHCP client settings:
Current firmware 1.1.40.160989

It makes no difference. Support has no complaints on this issue. But it is a pain in da a55 in conjunction with this

  • DNS fails using router IP address as DNS server address with static IP

This is my first experience with a Linksys router so it might be normal behaviour but just wanted to check. With a WRT54G2 router I have a few PC's I want to use static IP. Up till now with other brand routers including Belkin and Dlink, I have been able to just put the router IP address in as the address of the DNS server when I use static IP. This seemed to work initially with the Linksys but now for some reason, if I don't code the IP addresses of the DNS server provided by my ISP, DNS lookup fails.  If I use DHCP for the PC's there is no problem.
Is that normal behaviour or is there something wrong I am doing?
    Thanks
    Larry

I decided to upgrade my Linksys 54G router to a "Ultra RangePlus Wireless-N Broadband Router (WRT160N)Version 1" . I have had problems with the wireless (as far as I know just wireless portion) connection dropping. I have done some searching I was able to find some settings to try, and it did work better, but not for too long. I have this router within arm reach away, so it's not a distance issue. I have tried many things for about the last 6months or so.
As a last resort, and I do mean last resort and against my better judgement I purchased " Dual-Band Wireless-N Notebook Adapter (WPC600N) Version 1". I was hoping it was a compatibility issue, but there was no difference.
I have heard of trying older firmware, but I can't find any.
I have been a Linksys fan for quite sometime, but as of recently I am thinking of reconsidering if I can't get this resolved with out spending any more money.

  • Linksys Router cannot communicate with DNS Server

    Hi,
I have a RCA cable modem and a Linksys router and I have been having problems connecting to the Internet wirelessly. When I connect directly to the modem I can get on the Internet (but the connection does seem a little slow). On another forum I was told to disconnect the power from the router, wait a minute, then disconnect the modem and disconnect all wires. Then plug in modem and let it boot, then plug in router and let it boot. This does get my wireless connection back, but then after a few hours I lose it. My Internet provider Earthlink/Time Warner says that the router is the problem, but they see that the router gets a valid ID address, but it cannot connect to the Primary DNS Server. When trying to connect wirelessly I either get the message “Cannot connect to primary DNS server” or “Cannot connect to DNS Server 207.69.188.185”.
I don’t know if my Linksys router is shot or if the problem is originating from the modem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

Whats the Wireless Settings you have setup on your Router?
This might be due to the default wireless settings set on your Router, login to the setup page of your router and below change the wireless settings on your Router.
For Wireless Settings, please do the following : -
    Click on the Wireless tab
    - Wireless Network mode should be mixed...
    - Provide a unique name in the Wireless Network Name (SSID) box in order to differentiate your network from your neighbors network...
    - Set the Wireless channel to 11-2.462GHz...Wireless SSID broadcast should be Enabled and then click on Save Settings...
Please make a note of Wireless Network Name (SSID) as this is the Network Identifier...
    For Wireless Security : -
Click on the Sub tab under Wireless > Wireless Security...
Change the Wireless security mode to WPA, For Encryption, select TKIP...For Passphrase input your desired WPA Key. For example , MySecretKey , This will serve as your network key whenever you connect to your wireless network. Do NOT give this key to anyone and remember the key.

    Click on Advanced Wireless Settings
Change the Beacon Interval to 75,Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304,Change the RTS Threshold to 2304 and Click on Save Settings...
Now see if you can locate your Wireless Network and attempt to connect...

  • Why doesn't my airport express router issue proper DNS server address to DHCP clients?

I have an Airport express router (version 7.6.4).  It was configured to connect to internet via a cable modem, acting as a router with NAT. This means it obtians WAN address from cable modem, and in LAN it assumes IP address 10.0.1.1 as a gateway, and issue IP address to my 4-5 wireless clients (MBA, iPads, PCs) vi DHCP.
However I recently encounter an issue, that the router no longer issues DNS server address obtained from Cable Modem(206.x.x.x) but instead tell every DHCP client to use router ip address (10.0.1.1) as DNS server. I was pretty sure before Dec 2013 it is issueing (206.x.x.x) to all DHCP clients.
Apparently now the Airport express is acting as a DNS server or as a DNS cache. This works sporadically and very often result in long DNS look up or DNS look up failure.
Is this a bug or is it supposed to do so?  Any configuration can turn it off so Airport express will issue Cable modem obtained DNS server to DHCP clients?
My network otherwise works fine. for some of the Clients (e.g. one MBA) I configured DNS for it mannually and it's internet is working very smoothly.

But this will be a problem for my ipad and iphone that uses wifi.
These devices either allow full DHCP. If you need to mannually enter DNS server, you will need to turn entire IP configuration to mannual and that will be a problem for me.

  • DNS Issues, can't set static DNS server

I have an Airport Extreme (which I'll call the router). It has an IPv6 tunnel (to Hurricane Electric), so it hands out IPv4 DHCP and announces an IPv6 network as well. The DNS servers configured on the router are OpenDNS'.
My Apple TV 2 is connected via wired Ethernet to the router. It was using a DHCP address provided by the router, which made the DNS server the same address as the router. I wanted to manually set the DNS to use my ISP's, so that I can make sure the Netflix streaming issue I have is not a DNS issue.
So I changed the Apple TV to a manual address, and set the DNS server to my ISP's DNS server (Apple TV can only have one DNS server? Odd.)
After I save this, the Network page shows the correct manual IP, mask, and router, but the DNS Address is an IPv6 address (one that belongs to my network, but the entire address isn't visible), not the one I set. When I Configure TCP/IP again, and I reach the DNS Address page, the first digit of the existing address is "20", and the rest of the digits are "0". Interesting note as well: if I press Down, the number will increment to 19, and so on, but if I press Up, it changes to 0. Obviously the UI isn't designed for IPv6 addressing, but there's an IPv6 address in there nevertheless.

I have tried to set the DNS Address multiple times now, and have restarted the Apple TV. The IPv6 DNS Address persists.

After 16 hours of working i don´t have seen this easy solution. I had tried with Internet Explorer and Opera but finaly i have need to use Firefox.
Thanks a lot to solve it.

  • Hi, I have a question about CISCO 1841 router.

I have 4 devices which are named 1841.
But, I have trouble handling these..
To help my question, I suppose that router's name is set A, B respectively.
    A (DCE) ------- (DTE) B (slot0 ,1 --> WIC-1T)
Now, I connected routers upper contents.
But WIC-1T's CONN LED does not shining...
    I did below following steps...
    1. I did commands in the routers : no shutdown, encapsulation ppp, clock rate 115200 (In this case, I designated at DCE)
    2. Change another cable which was NEW one.
    3. Change another router (Of course WIC-1T is put in)
I really don't know what can I do...to perform it.....
    Ah... plz response my question...
    Thank you.
    Regards,

And I did "show ip interface brief" command.
    Router#show ip int b
Interface                    IP-Address      OK? Method Status                Protocol
FastEthernet0/0        unassigned      YES NVRAM  up                     down
FastEthernet0/1        unassigned      YES NVRAM  up                     down
Serial0/0/0                unassigned      YES unset      down                 down
Serial0/1/0                unassigned      YES unset      down                 down
    Router#
    I definitely "show down" at f0/0, f0/1, s0/0/0, s0/1/0
But, only f0/0, f0/1 were up.
I don't know why Serial does not changed down to up
    Hmmm....
It is really difficult to me ...
The harder study in network, the more difficult...
    Anyway!
    Please reply me!

  • When I open Adobe Acrobat, the menu onthe left is always set to 'Layers'.  I have tried to change it to 'Pages' without any luck.  Can anyone suggest a fix?

When I open Adobe Acrobat X, the menu on the left is always set to 'Layers'.  How can I change it to always be set to 'Pages'?

Most of the time you see something like that. The image in question has a color profile other then sRGB. Some image viewers/displayers are color managed and others are not.  So the image do not look the same in all of the applications you use. So colors seem to change.
Try converting it to sRGB color and see if then looks the same all around. Also I think PC and Mac displays are set to different gamma something like 1.8 and 2.2
Though I'm colorblind I even see color variations.

Another user had success doing the following:
I got some help from an apple assistant on the phone. It is kind of round about way to get in.
Here is what he said to do and it is working for me...
      a. on the device that is asking you for the security questions go to "settings", > "store" >
tap the Apple ID and choose view"Apple ID" and sign in.
      b. Tap on payment information and add a credit/debit card of your preference then select
"done", in the upper right corner
      c. sign out and back into iTunes on the device by going to "settings"> "store" > tap the
Apple ID and choose "sign-out" > Tap "sign -in" > "use existing Apple ID" and you
should be asked to verify your security code for the credit /debit card and NOT the
          security questions.
      d. At this time you can remove the card by going back in to edit the payment info and
selecting "none" as the card type then saving the changes by selecting "done". You
should now be able to use your iTunes store credit without answering the security
          questions.
It's working for me ...I just have to put in my 3 digit security pin from the credit card I am using.
    Good Luck friends!

  • New Asa 5505... Anyway to set up behind home router with no internal DNS?

Since the home router is the DNS server, the Asa has no internal DNS which is probably the cause of no internet. Is there any way around this?

Can you not simply use the ASA as the DHCP server and include the DNS server in your DHCP configuration ?

Question about email setting: how  do i change the setting so i need to login to check my email. Currently it automatically come to the inbox without the need to log in.

You don't. Email comes in either by push or when you invoke the email app. Ther is no password except when you first set up the account. If your iPad is not being used as your personal device and you need to shield emails from other users, then don't use the email app.  Instead, use web mail if available from your provider.

  • Question: Is it always harmelss to re-install a VM Server?

I'm thinking about disaster scenarios, and what I'm going to do about them. One scenario is that one server in a cluster dies, or even is just suspected of being corrupted in some way.
Question: What is the procedure for replacing a VM server?
Let's take the quick and dirty case: The server has died, and will never come back alive. What do I do?
<Thinking aloud> I have to get all the VMs off that server, manually or via the HA function. Then what? Maintenance mode? Or does the server have to be running to be put into maintenance mode? Or can I just delete the server? Will the several steps involved in deleting a server all run to completion if the server is dead already? Somehow, I remove it from VM Manager, right?
Then I can re-install the server. What do I have to be careful about? I need the same agent password, for sure. Should I go ahead and present the same LUNs to it that it had before? Or should I install, and discover it before doing that?
    What am I missing?
    Your comments are invited.

This can of course be done, but requires enough resources to do so. I have 6 VM servers in a clustered Pool where I do have enough resouces that actually I can actually loose one VM server an without being constrained by resoruces. So, if I set a VM to HA-mode, that is, check the HA option and start the VM or restart it, it will automatically be restarted if the VM server it runs on fails, crashes or otherwise goes down.
This I actually have experienced and it works flawlessly. Just make sure, that you do provide enough resources for the cluster.

  • Is it a known but that the outgoing SMTP user ID is always set to the same as the incoming even when set differently?

I'm trying to figure out where to report this: I keep noticing that when I setup a new account and I set the incoming and outgoing user names differently, the outgoing one never is honoured; it always sets it the same as the incoming one and I have to manually go into the outgoing settings to change it. Just wondered if this was known, thought it might be worth reporting.

  • Netboot and DHCP Issue - Setting up AST Diagnostic Gateway

    Hi everyone,
I recently set up a new Mac Mini as a stand-alone server for the Apple Service Toolkit Diagnostic Gateway. Here are the specs of the Mini, if needed by anyone:
Mac OS X 10.6 Server (patched to 10.6.8)
    2.66GHz Core 2 Duo
    8 GB DDR3 RAM
I have followed Apple's instructions on how to install/configure AST Diagnostic Gateway from the Service Source page to the T. Installation was no problem and everything went smoothly.
In Server Admin, I turned on only NFS and NetBoot services (as per the instructions) and configured NetBoot to work via Ethernet with the AST image as the default. Both services are running. I DO NOT have DHCP turned on on this machine, namely because:
a.) We have a district DHCP server supplying IPs to all our machines, and
b.) The instructions from Apple actually say to avoid running any services on the AST Gateway machine besides NFS and NetBoot.
I gave the server a static IP and reserved it in our DHCP server. I also registered my Gateway Manager with my Apple ID and ASP location, etc. so it can connect to the repositories.
However, when I plug in a remote host on the same network segment (same subnet), it will not netboot. I get the flashing globe for about 20 - 30 seconds and then the system boots normally into the OS. When going into System Preferences > Startup Disk, it does not see the AST server.
If I turn AFP on, I can connect to it that way and view the image files, etc. The permissions are set so that everyone can read the image files.
What am I missing? The only thing I have been able to find so far are these entires in the NetBoot log within Server Admin:
    Jul  6 13:06:48 localhost servermgrd[58]: servermgr_dhcp:bootp config:Error:Failed to create default subnet records
    Jul  6 11:47:43 localhost configd[32]: bootp_session_transmit: bpf_write(en1) failed: Network is down (50)
It appears that the remote host is not getting a proper DHCP address and therefore cannot see the netboot server..?
Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated!

The NetBoot service does not need to run on a server also running DHCP so you are ok on that front, you will only need AFP if you are going to use diskless NetBoot. Can you however provide more details as to your NetBoot configuration, e.g. what Interfaces have you enabled it to serve on, what archictectures are supported, have you configured any restrictions as to models that can connect, have you configured a filter for MAC addresses, etc.?
The first thing to do is to get things so the NetBoot image does show up in Startup Disks, then worry later about actually trying to NetBoot.
The error you listed of "Jul  6 11:47:43 localhost configd[32]: bootp_session_transmit: bpf_write(en1) failed: Network is down (50)" might be suggesting you have enabled the NetBoot service on a network interface which is not in use. Some models of Mac such as the Mac Pro and XServe have two Ethernet interfaces. Even on the Mac mini you are using the built-in Ethernet and built-in AirPort (WiFi) still count as two interfaces. On the Mac mini normally en0 is the built-in Ethernet and en1 is the AirPort.
