EA6500 and Synology Diskstation

I just got this new router to replace my Linksys 4200v2.
I have a Synology DS710+ and was able to use the IOS Apps DS Photo and DS Cam locally and remotely using the same login info. I use DYNDNS for my IP address and I forwarded my ports to my local ip address of my DS710+.
Problem I have with the new router is that I can connect remotly but not locally using my dyndns login. To use apps locally I have to put in my local address assigned from my router. What happened and why is it not working correctly any longer. I matched everything up like my last configuration.
Now here is where it gets interesting. If I give my Synology diskstation media prioritization then it works locally. Problem is then my download speed goes to a crawl on the entire network. My speedtest goes from 35 Down to 1 down ! Even though the reserved speed is nowhee close to effect it that much.

Hope you could provide some more specific details on the problem you're having thru this router so we could understand fully. Try to check these links;

  • BT Home Hub 3 and Synology Diskstation DS212J NAS ...

After a recent move I've been trying to set up my NAS again with my new BT broadband (having previously been with Sky). Upon connecting everything up properly, the NAS doesn't show up on the list of connected devices on the router. Even when plugging the NAS into my laptop and trying to connect, I still cannot access it.
I've read other posts about needing to set a static IP address and forward the ports for the NAS. I've set the ports up but because I cannot access the NAS I'm unable to assign it a static IP address and don't really know what else to do.
Please help, it's driving me bonkers! I've tried everything I can think of.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

What make of router does Sky supply?  Is it a netgear?  It's possible that the Nas already had a fixed address on a different range to the bt hub (192.168.0.* rather than 192.168.1.*)  In which case the 2 devices won't communicate.  There are a couple of things you could try.  Do you still have the old router?  Power it up and connect a pc to it with ethernet and then do an ipconfig on the command prompt (Press windows key and r, enter cmd or command, then hit enter, will bring up the command prompt, then type ipconfig and hit enter).
Then look for the ethernet adapter, local area connection.  Look underneath that heading for the lines IP address/IPv4 address and default gateway.  If the default gateway for that router isn't 192.168.1.254 then the nas won't be seeing the router if it has a static ip already assigned.  You could at that point attach the nas, see if you can access it and then set it's tcp/ip settings to dhcp, which should then get it to connect to the hub.  From there you can set up a fixed internal address.
Rather than change the details on the Nas, you could always change the DHCP range on your hub, although someone else would be better walking you through that as I am not completely au fait with exactly how it is done on the home hubs.
What you could also try is disconnect everything apart from one pc and the nas from the hub, open command prompt again and enter the following command:
    FOR /L %i IN (1,1,254) DO ping -n 1 192.168.1.%i
That command will ping all of the ip addresses on the range 192.168.1.1 to .1.254.  Watch the screen.  Hopefully you will get 2 responses, one from your pc and one from your nas.  Make a note of the ip addresses you get a response from.  You should be able to match one to your pc and you can then check out any others that respond by entering the ip address in your web browser.
I appreciate it is quite a long post, but hopefully at least one of these will help you get access to your Nas again.

  • W2008R2 trust with W2012R2: Synology diskstation asks for credentials

    Hi,
    I have a 2 way trust between a Windows 2008 R2 and a W 2012 R2 server which works fine.
I can access shares on both sites without a problem. Then I have this Synology diskstation which is added to one of both domains. I can access the shares of it in 1 domain, but in the other domain I'm asked for credentials.
    Please advise.

  • Aperture and Synology NAS 212j

Hi everyone. I just bought a Synology NAS (2x2tb HD) which I plan to use with all my media (music-photos-videos) so I can access it through a mac mini server, connected to my living room tv. Concerning my photos, I have them all in a Macbook Pro (400Gb library) working with aperture 3, all managed files stored within the Aperture Library on the MacBook.
What I was planning to do is, while keeping my macbook as it is, (with all photos and aperture library stored in it, as a back-up), create a new aperture library on my mac mini and point it to the masters file located at the NAS.
I already placed a copy of all my masters in the NAS and I can actually access all these pictures once the NAS DiskStation is mounted on my wired network.
I then tried to copy all the folders and files inside the aperture library icon (except the masters), and paste them on the Mac Mini's Photo folder so that I could launch Aperture (option click) and chose to open that library.
The problem is that I get an error message: "There was an error opening the database for the library '/volume/photo/vacationeurope2012.aplibrary".
The solution I am looking for is how to keep my library and masters on my macbook and, at the same time, create a "copy" of that same library, where the library database would be stored in the mac mini and all the files (masters+projects) on the NAS.
I am now trying something new, which is to transfer the copy I have on a external HD of the whole 400Gb Aperture library and place it the MacMini. I'd then open aperture and make it relocate the masters, pointing them to the Synology DiskStation.
Any other ideas would be greatly apreciated!!
    Thanks
    Gustavo

    Hi Gustavo,
Be careful with what you place on your NAS because it is not HFS+ formated, and that means that some of the information that Mac OSx needs can't be stored on other file systems.
I currently own a QNAP NAS and I also wanted to move my iPhoto, iTunes, etc Libraries onto the NAS, but before I did so I looked it up a little bit and it seems to not be that good idea unless you purchase, of course, yet another Apple product: Time Capsule or Airport Extreme.
On the other hand, I would also like to stream videos to iPads and iPhones in my household. For that, you really need a powerful CPU. State-of-Art 2-bay NASes feature Atom processors and they choke on large files...
I may start looking into migrating my current setup and go for a Mac Mini (with enough horsepower for video transcoding) with a Time Capsule attached to it.
Man, Apple works flawlessly and I do love them, but they are sooo incompatible with every single other thing out there...

  • Restore full macbook pro from time machine backup stored on Synology DiskStation DS411

    Hi,
I backed up my macbook pro (running Mac OS x 10.8) with time machine on a Synology DiskStation DS411.
I never had any problem to backup my entire computer (~330gb) with Time Machine, others colleagues do so.
Recently my hard drive failed and I had it replaced. I want to restore the full computer from this DiskStation. When I turn on the computer with the new drive, It proposes me to restore the data from a disk but can't find it even though I am plugged on the netwrok.
I tried to copy and paste the entire folder on an external hard drive with a windows 7 machine, then plugged the hard drive to the macbookpro but it could still not see the hard drive.
I don't really know what to do anymore. Can anyone help?
    Thanks.
    J

Backing up to a third-party NAS with Time Machine is risky, and unacceptably risky if it's your only backup. This is an example of what can happen.
If your only backup is on the NAS, contact the vendor for support.
If you want network backup with Time Machine, use as the destination either an Apple Time Capsule or an external hard drive connected to another Mac or a mini-tower (802.11ac) AirPort base station. Only the 802.11ac base station supports Time Machine, not any previous model.

  • ITunes 11.1.3 on Mavericks and Synology NAS

Mavericks, iTunes 11.1.3 and Synology NAS... it now seems iTunes is not anymore able to play or import files to the library if they're placed on the NAS... if I click on any file, it won't play and I have to force quit iTunes application.
anyone experienced the same issue? is there any fix?

    I have the same problem.
Finder sees my Synology NAS, but iTunes cannot seem to access the music. The NAS shows up in the sidebar, but I just keep getting the spinning wheel (or whatever it's called).
    Can anyone suggest a fix?
I should note that I have no issues with accessing the NAS through Finder - so it looks to be an iTunes issue.

  • EA6500 and Google Chromecast

Anybody got this to work yet?  I get to the point where it tries to connect to my network but it never can.  I reset both the chromecast and router back to factory settings but no luck.  The only thing Google seems to suggest is to disable AP Isolation mode but as far as I know, this router does not even support that (nor could I find that listed anywhere in the settings).

I'm having the same problem with my EA6500 and my new Chromecast.  I'd like to try your solution but I can't figure out how to disable security as you did.  I'm using the Linksys Smart Wi-Fi web based utility.  I'm seeing all sorts of different settings, but I can't find a simple "disable security" option.  Any direction would be appreciated, thanks in advance.

  • EA6500 and Comcasts Arris TM502G/NA-4 Telephony modem

Every time I do a firmware update to my EA6500 (and I have done a few) the Arris modem has to be hard reset (button on back). I don't recall having to reset my cable modem every time I update my firmware. Here's the spec sheet on the modem
    http://www.cablemodems.com/downloads/specsheets/TM502G.pdf
Don't think the Automatic Update would work if the cable modem needed to be hard reset every time the firmware on the EA6500 was automatically updated.
Anybody else have issues with their Arris cable modem?
    Thanks

Haven't heard this scenario with any of the routers, I suggest you verify it first from Comcast, have them check the modem just to be sure. As for the router, if everything is all working well then I don't think there's more we can do. Anyways, please let us know what Comcast has to say.

  • EA6500 and Media Prioritization (MagicJack)

I just recently purchased the EA6500 (Linksys-branded AC 1750) and have been trying to figure out the Media Prioritization widget. I thought that by adding my two MagicJack devices to the Prioritization list it might help with the outbound bandwidth allocations and provide for a better call experience. When I go into the settings and attempt to assign an Upstream Bandwidth allocation of, say, 128K, each time I change it and say Ok, It says that it's applying the settings. When I go back in the Upstream setting has returned to 0.
Any recommendations on how to get MJ to the top of the queue to help my call quality?
    Thanks!

It seems that your router is not saving the settings. Try to reset and reconfigure the router. If ever it is the same after that, update the firmware version to the latest. You can either do it automatically or manually. The firmware is available from Cisco’s homesupport.cisco.com website.

  • EA6500 and Media Prioritization

Just got my EA6500 today along with the WUMC710 media connector.  I used the media connector to hook my Roku 3 up to for now.
After setting up the router, I put the Roku 3, the media connector and my son's Xbox as a priority under media prioritization - which I believe is a fancy word for QoS.
Anyway, after setting the QoS up, my router (which is hardwired to my main PC) had knocked my Internet speed down by 20Mbps!
I disabled media prioritizatioin and the speed is back up to (or fairly close to) 50Mbps.  Why does this setting slow the speed down so much?
I checked the router's firmware and it is the latest.
Does anyone know if the prioritization feature actually works?  I had this QoS setting on my older TrendNet router and it screwed things up too.  There are 2 Roku's in the house and I'd like to make sure the main one has priority.  But if slower Internet speeds are the consequence, then forget it.
    Thanks for any replies..

Hi. QoS will prioritize multimedia devices in the network. For QoS/WMM to work properly without dropping the connection for other devices in the network, make sure that the other devices in the network have an updated driver that supports 802.11e. And you also need to specify the correct and actual bandwidth you're getting from the ISP. To do this, connect your main computer to the modem and do SpeedTest. Take note of the actual Upload and Download speeds then type it on the router under QoS/WMM.

  • ITunes and Synology iTunes Server

    Hi,
I am aware the my question belongs to the Synology forum but I did not got an answer there. But you guys have very strong skills...:)
My question is pretty simple but I am afraid that some people missunderstand it.
I want to put my iTunes library to a shared volume of the Synology drive. All music should resist on the NAS. That is an easy job.
Furthermore I want to play the music from theNAS on a second Mac. My idea is to start theiTunes Server on the NAS to stream the music to that second Mac. This Mac will be just a streaming client and will not access the shared folder containing the library.
Will the Synology NAS stream the iTunes lib to the second Mac?
Thans so much for your help
    Oliver

Did you ever get your answer Oliver?  Question has been out there for some time.

  • PVC2300 and Synology Surveillance Station

    Hello all,
I have a couple PVC2300 (8 to be exact) and want to connect them to record on a Synology DS209+ via its embedded Surveillance Station application.
    Q1:
When I setup the app on the DS209, it is asking for:
    MPEG4 streaming port:
    > Use the default port range (55736-55863)
How is that translated on the PVC2300 setup (is it the RTSP port?)?
    Q2:
When adding the camera it is also asking for IP, port and the camera’s image source path. The source path must be set correctly for the camera to obtain images. Please consult the camera’s manufacturer for the camera source path.
What is the PVC2300 source path?
    Thanks,
    Harry

I agree that it must be the RTSP port , as indicated on the unit's user guide it's the port for MPEG-4 streaming. On the other hand, the IP and port can be found on the camera setup page of the utility while nothing was mentioned about image source path , only recording path the default location is c:\Program Files\LinksysOne\LinksysOne Surveillance Utility\Storage\Local ID\File Type.
I might just have overlooked it , so I'll be suggesting you to check that out also on the userguide.

  • EA6500 and my range extender issues

I have using a Hawking HWREN1 for several years.  Generally it works well and does what it is supposed to do.
HOWEVER, i have an issue that has been driving me nuts since I have owned this unit.  When I experience a power reboot, or power outage, or a configuration change with the EA6500, I have to power cycle this extender.
I have a lot of folks on this extender network to the router so this is really annoying.
I recently installed some Linksys extenders on an EA4500 and the same thing occurred.
How do I fix this so when I have a router event, power, configuration, the extender will auto connect without a power cycle.
    Thanks

Have you consulted the Hawking Mfr about there product as well? Generally if a client device can't re-establish the connection after in interruption, usually means the client device needs to be reviewed. The externers and devices could be picking up other interferences as well during the reboot process keeping them from re-establishing the prior connection.
If you temporarily disable WiFi security on the 6500 router and test a couple of reboots, will this device re-establish the connection on its own with out having to power cycle it? Re-enable security on the 6500 router after testing. Try setting WPA only and 20Mhz only and test. Then try WPA2 only and 20Mhz.
If the device can't re-establish the connetion on it's own, I'd phone contact the Mfr of this device and ask for help and information on it.
Besure that FW is up to date on both router and this device...

  • EA6500 and PPPoE

I have a couple of problems with this router. But it is first one:
I have rather huge connection at home. DL speed 80Mb, UL speed 3Mb.
When I connect my PC directly to modem and configure PPPoE connection, I get 81Mbits/sec. When I connect my old ASMAX $30 router, I get 78 Mbit/sek. And I find it OK.
But when I connect my EA6500 I get 28 MBits/sec. Same result on wire as on wireless connection. Of course If I enable prioritisation, I get even less, 12-15 Mbits/sec.
I tried already even configuration with ASMAX as wired router and EA6500 connected to its LAN port. It gives me 50Mbits/sec.
    Any suggestion?
Ah, I have already latest firmware, good cables etc..

What is your subscribed speed from your internet service provider? Getting 50Mbps out of 80Mbps is an indication that there may be a problem with the router. How about you try to change the MTU settings. For instructions, refer to these links: What is MTU and How to Change the MTU Size and Determining and setting up the correct MTU size. If changing the MTU will not let the speed improve, I suggest that you reset the router and reconfigure the settings. If resetting it will not, upgrade the firmware of the router then do another reset and reconfiguration of the settings.

  • EA6500 and Blocking Apps/Blocking Ports

So I bought the EA6500 yesterday, to replace my E3200.
Formerly, with the E3200, I was able to block applications on the router admin page, without blocking all internet access, under the "Access Restrictions" Tab. I could create access policies that allowed internet access to specific devices, while blocking port ranges/protocols for specific applicatons. while this didn't work for Skype, which jumps from one port to the other until it finds an open one, it worked perfectly for World of Warcraft. the primary target of my restrictions.
in common with the old setup for the E3200, the new cloud login allows me to block internet access completely to a device. it also allows me to block websites to my heart's content, an improvement upon the old system, which stopped at four. but to my great surprise, it will not allow me to specify port blockages for specific apps for specific devices.
amazingly, hile the new EA6500 is blessed with the added capability of actually recognizing applications by name, *it is only to give them greater priority*. the Media Prioritization tab lets you give a ton of your bandwith to specific apps, but won't let you throttle or block them.
Is there some way to work around this? Some alternative firmware? again, I don't want/need to block all internet access to a particular computer. I only need to block some apps (World of Warcraft, and Skype, possibly some torrents) by closing some ports.
    Is this possible?
    -Desperate in L.A.

Why would they need to take away that feature? it seems I'm not the only one who wondered at this omission...
