EA6500 is unreliable garbage

I have to say that my experience with the EA6500 v1 has been terrible -- I wouldn't recommend this product to anyone for 1/4 the price!
I purchased my first EA6500 November 2013 and ever since my network and internet access became unreliable, spotty and I would have to unplug the router at least 10x a week just so I could keep my network up and running.
After 'working with tech support' at Linksys for 4-6 weeks and spending nearly a hundred hours re-configuring basic settings on the router over and over again just so I could get an RMA# was bad enough.
But once I got the RMA# I had to purchase another gigabit router so my network would operate while I went away on business.
After months without the Linksys EA6500 I had honestly forgot that I ever sent it in for 'repair' -- but then I received a repalcement EA6500 and then after another month or so I decided to give it a try again - after all, I paid around $200 for it. :/
Sure enough, it hasn't even been installed for a week and already it has 100% of the same problems as the first one did - what a mistake!
I'm not even going to bother sending the product back again. It obviously is flawed and if they could have fixed it they would have -- or they would have fixed the problems in the firmware, but they didn't so it's now just another expensive paperweight heading to the junkyard.
Is it my computer setup? Ah, NO!  Both my ancient E3000 worked with zero downtime.  The cheap Chinese gigabit router that I used for nearly 6 months worked with zero downtime.  And lastly, the AmpedWireless RMA15 (which has sucky IPv6 support) even worked without issue -- which I will be going back to first thing in the morning.
I will never go near another Linksys product again, nor will I ever have a good thing to say about Linksys in the future.
lastly, yes, I did speak/chat with a technician tonight, but there was no way I was going to spend anohter round of countless hours for a product that is flawed.
So, you may have won or tied the race too releasing a gigabit AC router, but you actually lost becuase you lost your reputation and this customer.

Linksys is no longer part of Cisco. It is now with Belkin. Hopefully, it would bring back the good old days of Linksys - the 'open' routers who brought us 3rd party firmwares like OpenWRT, DD-WRT, Tomato, etc.
If everyone needs to believe in something, I believe I'll have another beer..

  • EA6500 unreliable...

My EA6500 is running the latest firmware, but it seems really really unreliable.
With varying frequency the router will just stop wifi or routing all together. Rebooting it always fixes it.
I would say on average I am having to reboot the thing maybe once a week.
    What gives?

Can you provide more details about your network environment?
Who is your ISP? What type of connection you had subscribed for?
How many devices you have connected to the router? Can you check each device IP address to make sure that IP address conflict is not happening on the network?
When you lost the internet connection, had you checked if your devices are still connected to the local network or not?
     * Scenario 1: If they are still connected to the local network but just lost the internet connection, it’s better to test the internet connection with the modem as well by connecting a computer directly to the modem and have it observed. There is a possibility that your connection from your ISP is refreshing at a certain time weekly and it doesn’t push the connection to the router or to any device connected to it automatically. That could be the reason why you need to reboot your system to get connected again to the internet.
     * Scenario 2: If you’re devices are totally disconnected from the local network (wired or wifi) whenever it happens, check if the reboots itself during that time or check the power light of the router if it’s flashing/blinking. ‘Coz if it does, it is an indication that the router is performing self diagnostic and that could mean a corrupted firmware or a hardware issue. Reset and reconfiguration may help if it’s just the firmware.
     * You can perform continuous ping to the router using one of your computers to verify if you’re connected to the network or not whenever you lost the internet on the network.
    4. Make sure that the router is not too close to any device that can cause interference like a base of a cordless phone, microwave oven, etc…

  • Home sharing sooooo unreliable to be unusable - will it ever be fixed?

I bought an Apple-TV-3 six months ago and decided to migrate ALL my video media to apple m4v format to use via home sharing. To this end I spent a few months developing a PC app ConvertApple to automatically re-encode/remux and tag (using moviedv/tvdb) with full metadata all my videos with no user interaction needed. It's an awesome app if I say it myself, as all other similar programs require you to waste endless amounts of your own time, whereas this program works it all out automatically. I had planned to release it a month ago but owing to home-sharing's unreliability can no longer justify doing so. I had also bought a second apple-tv, but unfortunately between the latest ATV updates and itunes, home sharing has become sooo unreliable that it is no longer usable. I sat down tonight with my family to watch a film but the circle of death when trying to play a movie returned. How embarrasing. I flicked to my windows MCE box I had hoped to replace by ATV and watched it from there.
As a developer with 30 years experience, there's little I cannot get a computer to do, but I can categorically say that although home sharing works sometimes, it is sooo flakey that it is just not a viable 24/7 solution for the home. It may work for a day or two but soon the circle of death appears and you cannot play anything, Restarting itunes, usually brings it back up, but not always. It is connected to an always-on PC, with neither apple TV's set to sleep, both on static IP's and STILL the problem persists. I also run a Upnp server TVersity on the same box, that works flawlessly, but alas until a jailbreak for ATV3 comes out allowing me to run a proper upnp client I may as well bin the Apple-tv's that have wasted months of my time on a fools errand.
I am bitterly disappointed as the only reason I went down the Apple route in the first place as I trusted their reliablility and am shocked at just how appauling their home-sharing system has become. I am planning to sell the ATV's on ebay soon and purchase Google-tv's instead and I guess rename my app ConvertGoogle! The ATV+homesharing system seemed rock solid back in April but is now unusable. I've read 100's of posts from other users alluding to this issue and get the impression apple are in denial with no plans to fix it so if you're thinking of buying an Apple-TV DON'T!
Anyone who "think's" they have a working home-sharing system, wait a few days! I doubt an uptime of > 3 days can be achived. I also fail to understand why it is sooooo slow connecting, especially from iphones. My upnp clients connect instantly + most modern TV's have upnp built in. iTunes homesharing is clearly a very badly written proprietary system and should be junked and replaced with a standard upnp client (and server), then at least apple-tv's would be usable. As a primarly msoft developer since the 80's I always (jokingly) slated Apple, but bought into them with iPhone4 and now own 2 iphones, 1 ipad and 2 atv's, but I am now considering migrating to Google kit due to Apple's unreliability. I will never buy another Apple product as I just don't trust them to be reliable anymore. STuff works but only when it feels like it. I cannot live with hardware like that!

My current status is having restarted iTunes, I can browse my library from ATV, but as soon as I click play it just sits there circling-of-death indefinately - pathetic!
Scrap Home-Sharing it's total garbage technology and implement a standard uPnp server in itunes or at LEAST add a upnp client for ATV3 we can use eg AirPlayer = works solidly on my ipad/iphone etc. Whatever happened to the ATV SDK being opened up mooted months ago?
I'll get a google-tv of Amazon this w/end and see how I fare with that. I'd live to have used ATV3's but they DO NOT work, so I can't. Oh and why on IOS6 on iphone does the remote app just close itself every now and then?
Apple need to fix things for their existing customers, rather than focus on new features to attract new ones, or they will end up having no customers five years from now!

  • EA6500 Lack of Advanced Settings??

Right now I'm using a WRT610N with DD-WRT FW which works amazing. However the hardware is starting to get a little behind the times so I decided to pickup an EA6500 in hopes that an DD-WRT FW would be released sometime in the near future.
In any case I decided to hook it up tonight just to see what Cisco has to offer. I punch in the usual 192.168.1.1 and now I'm sitting on some retarded page that looks like a toybox full of buttons. I can't seem to find any way to switch it from this dumbed down basic mode to an advanced mode. Did a google search and seen other people saying they returned the router after not being able to find an advanced mode either. I don't understand why tech saavy people have to be punished with these dumbed down interfaces with no alternatives. Not everyone is an illiterate Apple computer user. Some of us actually do other things besides play on FaceCrook and Tweeter!
So is there a secret menu or address I can use to bypass this awful basic interface or is it just a matter of waiting for the DD-WRT guys to provide us technical people with something useful? I mean the hardware looks promising but that doesn't mean anything with this dumbed down software on the front end. Looks like some kinda garbage Crapple would do with one of their routers

The EA6500 comes with the Smart Wifi firmware. Every time you log-in to the router’s page, you’ll get routed to that page. It does not have classic firmware like EA2700 or EA3500. The router models that came after the EA6500 are with the Smart Wifi setup page, too. • Need help! Printer printing garbage characters and non stop until out of paper

    Hi,
I have a computer lab that has 25 workstations. The workstations are installed with Adobe CS5 suite. Sometimes when trying to print Indesign files, the printer started to go haywire. It will print out garbage character and printing non stop until ran out of paper.
Any help will be great. Thanks in advance.
    Network printer: HP colorjet CP4525
    OS: Win XP SP3
    Software: Indesign CS5

There is no such thing as a Generic Adobe PostScript driver. What is posted on the adobe.com website is a driver installer that simply associates PPD files with the standards Windows PostScript driver that comes with Windows itself. That installer only works with versions of Windows up to and an including Windows XP 32-bit. It does not work with Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows Server, or any 64-bit version of Windows.
Also note that although the HP CP4525 “supports PostScript” it is not a printer with Adobe PostScript 3, but rather, CloneScript from a third party.
Having said that and understanding that you are currently using a PCL6 driver, I would recommend the following:
    (1)     Try using the PCL5C driver for the printer. PCL6 and its drivers was always dodgy anyway.
    (2)     Turn off the printer's automatic page description language sensing. That feature attempts to guess as to whether PCL or PostScript is currently being sent to the device and switch language processors. It really isn't necessary because HP's drivers prepend the print job with information as to which page description language is being used.
Given the unreliable nature of HP's emulation of PostScript, I would not recommend using any HP LaserJet's PostScript mode for any model of LaserJet in recent memory.

  • EA6500 PS3 connection.

I have my PS3 connecter to my EA6500 but when I do a test connection my download speed is only 3 - 4 mbps. I have internet conncetion of 60 mbps how can i get my PS3 to get a faster connection?

A couple of things to note here...
First, the PS3 has a Wireless-G adapter, which means that you'll never achieve more than ~23 Mbps with it.
Second, if you're using the PS3's built-in speed test, then you should know that it's pretty unreliable. Instead, test by downloading something from the PS Store and calculate your real speed that way. Those ~23 Mbps should net you at most 2.8 MB/Sec.

  • Comcast (or Xfinitiy...fancy name for same garbage) cable service is AWFUL.

Anyone else unable to play On-Demand whenever you want to?  This service is so unreliable - whenver we choose to use On-Demand, we get "unable to process your request, please try again later".  I can't tell you how many times I've heard that.  I'm still trying again.  The only way they are able to get away with such garbage service is by being the only game in town.  I am amazed that we still live in a world where monopoly players provide garbage service.  If there was full competition we would not be dealing with this.  To make matters worse, Comcast continues to raise their prices. If I had a reasonble alternative I would switch in a heartbeat.  I'm so ready to cut the cord and be done with these idiots.  This is the sort of thing to post on YELP, but these morons don't care because there's no other alternative.

I have this issue ALL the time lately too! They tell me it means that there is a poor internet signal coming into the house. We had a tech out that checked and confirmed that... now we are just waiting to have someone else out to fix the problem. Maybe that is the issue for you too? Still very frustrating!

  • How can I prevent class garbage collection????

    Hi,
Is there a way to prevent a class from being garbage collected without using the -noclassgc option? Is there some code I can include in a class that tells the JVM not to garbage collect that particular class?
    Thanks in advance,
    Jacob.

The code shown below (slightly modified from yours) should work correctly on any 1.0.x throught 1.4 JVM.

  • Mbp random shutdowns. out of ideas. didnt pay $4000 over for this garbage.

So i had my 1st gen cd mbp for over a year now. almost a year and a 1/2 in fact. I forgot to buy app. Bad mistake, because its super unreliable now. 3 months into ownership, fans stopped working, magnetic catches fail to work so i cant shut my mbp. So i brought it to the service centre. they said there was a screw stuck in the fan which resulted in it not turning. *** did that screw come off? He said he had no idea. Fantastic.
My problem was fixed, but wif it came another problem. my top case was severely misaligned. alot of gaps all over. I brought it to another service centre who claimed they ordered a top case for me, and they would replace it free of charge. And they did, but it didnt resolve any issues. Still alot of gaps. I was told "its like that". I had enough of waiting so i just forced myself to live with it. Get this; i had to live with imperfections on an high end premium mobile computer which cost me over $4000 bucks. Garbage.
Fast forward to abt 2 months ago, my warranty had ended, but the gaps were getting worse. As it was a problem that had existed in the days since my laptop was covered, i called Apple and asked nicely if there was something they could do about it, since it was an issue that was left unresolved from many months back when my warranty was still valid. No problem they said. I was a happy man, for awhile, as you will soon find out why this happiness was shortlived.
I should add at this point, that my mbp has been on the receiving end of a stick of kingston 1gb ram(bumping up my system ram to 2gb) and a replaced battery, and that its working PROPERLY
So i brought it in to 1 of the service centers, and i was quite suprised to discover they actually replaced my top and bottom case. There were still gaps.. but minimal. The CSO told me the same thing; there are bound to have gaps once an mbp has bene taken apart and put together again. Garbage isnt it? I didnt fork out big money for imperfection. But then again, as i said, the gaps were quite minimal and it was on a level i could accept. So i signed for it and i was on my way home.
Since then, i have been on the receiving end of many many many random shutdowns. iStats showed a very high 128deg. c @ heatsink B while the rest of the readings were pretty normal. and then the whole thing would shut down. @ times heatsink B readings were not available on iStat. Sometimes heatsink B disappears altogether.
So i took it back, where after subsequent diagnoses by the techies, said that it was the result of a faulty battery. I told them i had no problems whatsoever before i brought my mbp in.. but they said they were very sure it was a faulty battery. What timing right? Well they gave me a new one free of charge, because i was under the battery exchange program. So, i am into my 2nd battery of my 1 and 1/2 years of mbp ownership.
So it looked ok the 2nd time i brought it back home.. but now its still developing sudden shutdowns. I really dont know what to do now. its not OS based as it happens both in Xp & OSX. It happens whether the power is plugged in or not.
Can it be the ram? But i swear it has not been giving me any problems before.
Seriously can anyhelp? Any suggestions? I cant be going back to the service centre everytime it happens. I need my mac everyday for sch work and etc etc. i am really not compelled to yell @ Apple over the phone. Nobody deserves to be yelled @ for something they didnt do....

Thats what i am doing now. I took out both rams and reinserted. And you know what... it seems fine now. Its like a very irritating bee-otch of a girl friend. 1 moment all nice and sweet. The next shut on you like never before

  • A program that I would like to garbage can...

I was futzing around and thought I would take a look at DVD sharing re my MBA (DVD-less). In my web search I found a program called...
"DVD_or_CD_sharing_setup.dmg" which I downloaded and ran. I never did see any change in my system so I moved the download to the Garbage Can.  Then, it trying to empty the trash, a message popped up that said...
"DVD_or_CD_sharing_setup.dmg" is in use and unable to empty from garbage.  I've done a search and can't find this program anywhere on the HD.  Anyone know how to get this file off my MBA?
I should note that in look at the dmg file, it says it was created in March 5, 2008.  More old web trash sitting around waiting for someone like me to download it.
Sure would like to make it disappear completely.

Disregard the question above.  I just discovered how to delete the program.  It was hiding under DEVICES in Finder.  A quick "eject" and it was gone from there and then from garbage.

  • Photoshop CS3 printing garbage characters on HP LaserJet 1300

After installing CS3, Photoshop prints garbage characters on my HP LaserJet 1300.
Yes, I have tried printing as ASCII, ASCII85, Binary and JPEG - nothing helps (plus the settings won't stick even after holding down Alt and clicking the Remember button).
The only way to print right now is to choose Save as PDF in the print dialogue, open the PDF in Adobe Reader and print from there.
    Any ideas?

tzw - I responded about this on another forum. I talked to technical support at Adobe about this exact issue about 2 months ago - can't print photoshop CS3 on any of my three HP printers. ( I have a HP1200, an HP 2550 and a HP photosmart 7660) (CS2 works fine) They worked with me for about an hour - called me back and worked some more, and then decided to send it up to the programmers (or engineers or whatever) The programmers called me and worked with me for another hour - trying different set-ups etc., but the conclusion by them was that this was a huge problem in that there were a lot of HP printers out there - that they were going to give this their top priority - and that there would be a fix for this soon. (I have yet to see a fix.)

  • Hotspot core dumping during JVM garbage collection ?

We have an application which calls a 3rd party supplied server API which has recently been upgraded to use Java 1.5
We are getting the following error reported by our client application. The application is also now running Java 1.5 but references many classes in jar files which would have quite old code in.
The supplier of the API has stated that the problem requires us to recompile all our jar files using v 1.5 ( including things like jconnect and jms ?!?!? ). This sounds like a bit of a cop-out to me, not to mention being impossible since we don't have the source for things like jconnect.
I suspect that there is a garbage collection problem at the bottom of all this, but I'm not sure how I can "prove" this, nor do I currently have any real clue as to how to fix any GC problem that may exist.
The application is supposed to wait for a message on a MQSeries queue and then transforms it via Xalan XSLT and sends it to a Server application. I've tried playing around with heap sizes etc but that just seems to make it worse. If I leave it at the settings that the previous version used then the client at least manages to process a couple of messages before core dumping. There doesn't seem to be a consistent trigger event to cause the core dump ( it's not a message arriving on a queue for example ) but it does seem to be fairly consistent timewise, i.e. after
    Any ideas gratefully accepted.

The very first suggestion I have is to move your VM to a more recent update of 1.5.0.
It looks like you are crashing with 5.0u3, and I'm pretty sure 5.0u16 is available. You
don't want to waste your time chasing a bug that's already been fixed.

  • Voice Memo Unreliability

The voice memo feature on my 3GS is starting to be unreliable--i.e., sometimes it records just fine and other times it is running, but not recording. I installed current software (4.3.2)  and thought that took care of the problem, but it hasn't.  Any suggestions?

I found this thread because my Voice Memos app has disappeared, as well. It is not in search, and I only have nine app screens. I tried to restore home page layout, but it has not reappeared. Suggestions other than resetting the device?

       return model_name+" "+veh_type;
}The List toString() method itself invokes your method when the List itself needs to be printed.

  • EA6500 - USB Control center - Could not find router when hooked up wirelessly

Not sure if this is the right place but I felt it should be posted somewhere on the internet.
I recently purchased a Linksys EA6500. I decided to try to hookup my printer through the it. I installed the USB Control Center and had some issues with it. It wouldn't detect my router. All I would get is "A compatible router with USB port was not found on your network".
When I hooked up my laptop to the ethernet port I was then able to get a connection to the router with the software. If I left my Wireless connection on while I did this I would unplug my computer ethernet the USB Control Center remained connected until I closed the software. When I reopened it could not see the router again. I tried on another laptop and it was working correctly.
At this point I started my research into the software and noticed in the help menu 2 things.
    1) the software was made by belkin
    2) they had other thing hooked up including keyboard and mice
    http://i.imgur.com/6NAQ5Jv.png
With this information I decided to try to make troubleshooting a bit easier by using a Lenovo Multimedia Remote with Keyboard N5902. I tried it on the second laptop that had no problems first and it kinda worked. The keyboard part worked and the mouse didn't. So I went to the computer that had issues connecting hooked it up via eithernet to test and I blue screened it. The dump file said the "AMD USB Filter Driver" crashed.
This lead me to 3 areas I need to troubleshoot on this laptop.
    1) USB Control center
    2) My Wireless adaptor (Atheros AR9285)
    3) USB Drivers
First thing I did was troubleshoot the AMD USB Filter since that did blue screen. The USB drivers on this computer are a mess. I have the standard A6 chipset drivers, the vmplayer virtualized usb drivers and then the virtual drivers for the USB Control Center. I updated what I could (Still crashed) and in the end used the Catalyst Install Manager to remove the AMD USB Filter driver and the Lenovo N5902 kinda started to work. On this computer the Mouse part worked and not the computer. Not worried because I did not have to run to the printer (wasting paper) and router all the time to keep troubleshooting.
The next thing I did was update my wireless drivers since it was the wireless portion that was having issue and not the ethernet. This did not work.
Finally I came back to the USB Control Center software. The Driver it is using is called "SXUPTP Driver" in the System Devices catagory. There were no downloads availible on the Linksys site for the software so I went to belkin and downloaded there latest version. I installed it and had the same issue. can detect the router wired but not wireless. I then look to the Driver manufacturer, Silex Technologies. They had no product called USB Control Center. Googled SXUPTP and a Microsoft page refed to "SX Virtual Link" made by Silex.
    http://silexamerica.com/campaign/sx-virtual-link-downloads/
I extracted the drivers and installed them. USB Control center still has the same problem. Installed SX Virtual Link software and it works.
    http://i.imgur.com/7wSEq8i.png
It works really well. I decided to hook up a USB Hub and put on different devices to see what I can do. The only Disapointment was the Microsoft Lifecam Cinema was not found. If did find a few other random things.
    http://i.imgur.com/aBI66jY.png
The only downside is that With the USB hub the router can no longer find USB storage devices to act like a nas. I'm ok with that since I did not like the idea of router in control of internet data sharing. I am ok with the fact that I can still hook up a thumbdrive via SX Virtual Link. In fact thumb drive not reconized by the usb storage in the router can be used via the SX Virtual Link. What I'm looking at now is hooking up an external DVD drive to it for devices that do not have drives. SX Virtual Link DOes reconized when a device is in use by a computer running USB Control center. there is no compatibility uses.
I am using Windows 7 64bit on an hp laptop with an A6 chipset connected wirelessly to an EA6500 router.
In short if you are having issues with USB Control center and your other drivers are up to date then just try the SX Virtual Link.
I felt this neede to go somewhere on the net.

Great Advice and solution Rob, it is working with your advice.
    Thanks
