EA6700 DHCP Reservation (Static DHCP) limit

Hi,
just got an EA6700. Setup was the most difficult I've ever experienced in many years of Wifi/router config. I almost packed it back up to return it. The cloud thing is absurd. Using CAPTCHA that does not even display the CAPTCHA image is even worse.
Alright, I succeeded in using the local admin login and set up the router. Actually the plan was to have it just be a wireless access point, using my Cisco RV042 as the router and DHCP server. Well that 'dream' was squashed right quick. That **bleep** RV042 blew up when I added one more Static DHCP entry. Poof. 'No more SYSTEM' errors in a few spots. On reboot the darn thing does not come back up. This after the RV042 needed to be reset after I used a quote or some other 'illegal' character in a static DHCP entry. What a piece of amateur junk.
So. Tomorrow I will reset the RV042 again and relegate it to just doing WAN failover, nothing more. The EA6700 will be the router and DHCP server. So my question (sorry for the ranting) is how many DHCP reservations the EA6700 can handle. I'll probably need 75. I assign DHCP reservations for LAN stability and to prevent IP address collisions.
Please note that I'm not talking about static IP addresses. I have a few of those too but I know they are different from DHCP reservations.
Thanks,
   Sander

It's highly unlikely the EA6700 can handle 70+ DHCP reservations. But I don't know for sure.
My advice is to go back to plan A and use EA6700 as AP.
Configure it for bridge mode. Be sure to "specify and IP address". Don't use "obtain IP address automatically" when configuring bridge mode.
http://kb.linksys.com/Linksys/ukp.aspx?pid=94&vw=1&articleid=25714
Edit: don't configure ea6700 for bridge mode while it's connected to your main router. You've probably noticed by now that the EA routers will automatically change their IP to 10.x.x.x if they detect a double NAT. Which I why I suggest keeping it disconnected from main router when configuring.

  • E4200 : DHCP Reservation not showing anything !?!

    Hello,
When I'm in Setup -> Basic Setup -> click on DHCP Reservation, I don't see all entries I've created earlier but computers that connect still have the correct IP address on the network; I don't know if I can create additional entries if nothing appears, what should I do ?
When I go to Status -> Local Network -> DHCP Client Table the list is blank but some computers are connected to the network
    I'm using firmware 1.0.01 build 10  Feb 21, 2011, language = English, Firefox 4.0.1
Rebooting the router doesn't change anything, I can't see connected LAN equipment and DHCP Reservation is empty despite the fact I've created entries.
Together with the "Access Restriction" which doesn't allow to block a computer from 10pm => 8am unless you create 2 rules + various issues with attached USB + 2.4Ghz signal that is far from optimal (never able to achieve more than 144-N-Mbps) and I ask myself if I will not contact the store where I purchased this unit and ask a refund (and buy something else from another brand...)
It's the first time I buy a Linksys equipment and very disappointed, support doesn't seem to be very serious
    Thanks for any suggestion
PS: Where do I ask for a refund or something similar in Linksys site ? If nothing exists, I'll let the store where I purchased this unit now about the present post

    Thanks for your answers
Today it works and I didn't reboot, restart or reset anything
I can see DHCP Reservation list + DHCP Clients Table
Same PC, same network, nothing restarted, reset, changed or added and now it works
    Weird
I would not like to re-create everything in the DHCP Reservation List as I have 17 entries so far (and going to add 1 more...)
Apparently, if I can't see my list, I have to wait a few days

  • Express and extreme both "n" with static vs dhcp reservations.

Good day, and thanks for reading.
I have an express that I have configured to "extend my wireless network" with my extreme. This is all setup manually, with no internet connection needed. everything is static and I am just using the wireless and switch of the routers.
I have 4 electronic components that have static IP addresses _and_ I have added the mac addresses to the DHCP reservation list as well.
I would prefer to leave everything with just the manual addresses in mac access control, however- the apple log does not show the connections for these components with static addresses. However, they do show up on the log as connected in the DHCP client log when I am using DHCP only.
    My questions are;
    1. Does it hurt performance on the routers to have the mac addresses filled in on both the DHCP reservation list, and the mac address control list?
    2. Do I need to have all the mac addresses for my connected components on both the extreme and the express or, can I just have them inserted on the extreme- and are there any conflicts that can arise with having them coded on both routers?
I just want to be able to see the connections on the log, and currently it will only show them if I am using DHCP.
    Thanks you.

Hello chrisinoswego. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
    1. Does it hurt performance on the routers to have the mac addresses filled in on both the DHCP reservation list, and the mac address control list?
    No.
    2. Do I need to have all the mac addresses for my connected components on both the extreme and the express or, can I just have them inserted on the extreme- and are there any conflicts that can arise with having them coded on both routers?
When employing MAC Access Control, the MAC addresses would need to be entered in each base station. The only conflict that I am aware of is when the (in this case) two MAC lists are not identical.

  • EA6700 Invalid IP address in DHCP reservations

Hello. First time here so bare with me. I can't believe I am actually posting this stupid thing but it must be a bug or something very wrong. As the subject says I am trying to reconfigure my network as there are too many devices too keep track/configure manually, and I can't add devices for DHCP reservation:
    -manually,
    -selecting from the list,
-modify any of my (few) previous entries,
when I am trying to associate IPs to MACs in Connectivity > Local Network > DHCP Server > DHCP reservations.
Every **bleep** time the little (two) fields for the IP are just starting to glow pinkish somehow and a baloon appears saying Invalid IP address. No matter what numbers I am filling in. Of course I would very much like to fill the IPs from my internal network 192.168.1.ish...
This just can't be for real. Tell me I didn't pay those money for this kind of bugs.
Don't take the name of root in vain!

PS: also after I add from the list (this one at least works) - I can't edit the entry, due to the same error, so it's useless too...
I should mention that even if 3 devices are connected wired 1GB to the router and most of them are wireless, on one port I have a SG300-28 Cisco Switch, in a separate VLAN, for easy administration of some servers/storage devices in a remote location (remote = different building ~ 50m). The switch is in layer 2 mode, no DHCP there. Worked for years. No IP conflicts.
All the machines/devices are Linux, BSD, Android. And I really need this as I have to restrict access to a FreeNAS 9.2 machine.
Don't take the name of root in vain!

  • All STATIC DHCP Assignments wiped out

Out of the clear blue sky, my Verizon Fios Router (the new Gateway G1100) suddenly had none of my static DHCP Assignments.  They all vanished!  I have no idea how, but on January 3rd, I had a fully functioning router with everything set the way I want, and I had a backup of the settings.
Today, I'm trying to remote in to some PCs on my lan and their not responding.  Well of course they're not, they have new IP addresses assigned dynamically because my entire address reservation entries were gone!
What the hell?  Best guess I have is VERIZON pushed a firmware update that screwed me and never told me.  The fact they can push updates at their whim kills me!  I'm stable, don't push me jack S%$#.  Don't fix what isn't broken.  Notify me, let me opt in!!!!
I'm so hating my switch to verizon!
Has anyone else had this happen?

Verizon is pushing a firmware update to the Quantum routers.  It adds useful functionality to the router.  See this thread for the details:
    http://forums.verizon.com/t5/FiOS-Internet/Fios-Quantum-Gateway-1-1-Enhancements/m-p/774233#M54060
My router was updated yesterday.  Unfortunately, my router lost it's static DHCP assignments as well.  I had even saved my router config prior to the upgrade as I was concerned about loosing my settings.  A restore of the router config after the update did not recover my static DHCP settings.  I'm not sure what else wasn't restored.
While I do like the improved features that the new firmware provides (Guest WiFi is a big deal for me), I too am disappointed in how this upgrade cleared out some settings and how we users have no control over the process.  I've heard that we're supposed to receive an email about the upgrade, but I never got one.
    Good Luck.

  • Cannot make DHCP reservation out of the DHCP pool

    Hello,
I foud a bug in the router:
I am using network 172.16.20.0 with subnet 255.255.252.0 wich means i can use IP adresses from 172.16.20.1 until 172.16.23.254.
When i setup my DHCP server on the router (from 172.16.20.1 to 172.16.20.100) i cannot make a DHCP reservation outside of this DHCP pool.
Is there a workaround or am i doing something wrong?
    Thanks in advance.

This is normal networking standards. When a DHCP pool is set up, only reservations work with in this pool. You can set up static IPs out side this pool if needed. Which is recommended for printer, NAS and low priority devices.

  • DHCP Reservations on E1200

Hi. I'm setting up a new E1200 and I'm searching for the area for DHCP reservations. My D-Link DIR-615 offers this ability in the Admin panel. This is quite useful since it allows for easier port forwarding management to specific Machine IPs without having to assign static IPs for each machine. I can't seem to find any documentation on this feature no the site or in the forum that applies to the E1200. If it's not offered, boy did I make a mistake in getting the E1200. I should have bought another DIR-615. If I have overlooked this, please advise as to where it is in the Admin panels. Thanks!

And in such a handy place!   I was looking under advanced settings and couldn't see it. Searched the forum. and  The Google,  didn't bring up any info...
    Thanks for the hand holding!
Happy to be a Cisco customer.

  • How to get Airport Extreme to Provide DNS for Static DHCP

I set up some static DHCP entries on my Airport Extreme 802.11n.  How do I make it provide DNS resolution for these devices?
For example, I defined a device which I named "tvpc".  With my old router, once I added a static DHCP reservation and provided it with a name, I could "ping tvpc" from any device on my network, and my old router would provide the DNS resolution, because it provided DNS service for all DHCP entries.
I suspect that the answer is, "Apple routers don't do this."  If that is the case, how do other people get name resolution for the non-Apple devices you set up with static DHCP?  Do you use /etc/hosts files?

  • 54GS ver2 DHCP and static Denon AVR IP

I have a WRT54GS ver2...older model.  Some models have DHCP Reservation that allows the same IP to be reestablished with the connected wireless device.  This model does not have that....wish it did.  I need to get the same IP with my Denon AVR (audo video receiver) each time.
Ok, So my 54GS is setup for DHCP 192.168.1.100 with 7 connections.  Only using 5 of these.
If I set an IP in my Denon AVR with a static IP of 192.168.110 (outside the .100 to .106 range) and the Gateway is the IP of the 54GS, Sub, DNS1, 2 as for my TCP/IP connection....then I should be able to connect to the router and dsl modem......I am unable to get the Denon to connect?
The Denon is connected via a wirless bridge..Buffalo Ethernet Converter that uses DHCP to connect to the 54GS.  Does that mean I can't use a static IP in the Denon that connects hardwire to the Buffalo?
How to get the Denon to see the router?

    The puzzle continues.........
I have the Router Gateway IP set at: 192.168.100.100
The DHCP server in the router is setting: 192.168.100.101-.103
I have the Denon IP set: 192.168.100.121.... will not connect to the Internet...does connect to the network.
I have a DirecTV IP set: 192.168.100.120......connects to the Internet and network.
Why the Denon will not connect to the Internet is the puzzle, especially since the DirecTV is connected via the same bridge and using the same IP setup as the Denon. I tried UPnP on/off...no difference.
The Denon and DirecTV are both connected to a Buffalo Air Station (wireless Ethernet Converter). Same ports, connections as with DHCP in use and working.
The DirecTV IP is set at 192.168.100.120; the Denon 192.168.100.121.
Gateway IP, Subnet Mask, DNS, all set the same in both. All other sources use DHCP in the .101-.103 range.
    DirecTV connects to Internet....Denon NO.
Both work when using DHCP via the router just fine. Just wanted a static non-changing IP in the Denon for use with FW updates/issues.
    Stumped!

  • Vlan Select and DHCP reservations on a WISM with code 7.0.116.0

We went to using vlan select this semester and have had a couple of issues where clients (printers) wont pull their reserved ip from dhcp. From what I've read vlan select can handle static ip addresses but can it handle dhcp reservations if the current vlan selected in the round robin function is not the vlan that the ip is reserved in?

    George,
Are you talking about a dhcp mac reservation for a device on all vlans in the bundle? If so, you can... The issue I ran into is that clients had to connect to a wireless printer and a wireless projector and they connected to it via ip address. So it became a nightmare with users. They just kept complaining that it works some days and other days it doesn't. Some devices were powered off after it was used. It would be nice if you can import a list of Mac address and specify what interface it is allowed on... That would make it easy.

  • WRT350N access using telnet, fixing DHCP reservation issue

    Hi,
Got my WRT350N recently and ran into a small bug.
Somehow I could not set a DHCP reservation for a specific machine/address. For other machines it worked perfectly.
I found out that I can telnet to the device:
    $ telnet 192.168.1.1 33
    # uname -a
    Linux 2.6.12-arm1 #1 Thu Dec 13 14:07:15 CET 2007 armv5tejl unknown
That's handy, you know what you are running on the WRT350N!
    Then I found with
    # nvram show
that the machine failing in DHCP reservation was already listed as first item in variable:
    static_dhcp_clients=eljo:280:000874AB0846:1:joel:192.168.1.12:0015F23B916E:1
Using 'nvram set' I removed the 'eljo' entry and I could fill it in again correctly using the web interface!
    So I'm a happy user ;-)

I have the same issue on Solaris 8 with a Linksys WRT54G firmware 3.01.3. I can access the internet using the Netscape 4.7 browser but, only by using http://ip.addr. nslookup works in forward lookups e.g. www.google.com. and sometimes by ip.addr.
    snoop -d le0 shows
hostname DNS R Error: 3(Name Error)
I removed dhcp configurations and set a static route on the linksys router under advanced routing and plumbed the interface. I still have the same problem.
    I am using a Sparc20.
I checked resolv.conf and it is correct. I checked /etc/nsswitch.conf, it uses hosts: files dns.
defaultrouter is the same as yours.

  • DHCP reservation BAD_Address and Mac Address changes.

Ok.  I understand about Bad_Address and the things that can cause it.  That said, I am using Window 2003 and we are running DHCP.  Yesterday we had a series of short power outages.  Some were right after the other (1 or 2 seconds) others
were 10 to 40 seconds in between.  The server (of course) has a UPS and so does most of our infrastructure (switches etc).
But it seems that one type of Printer that we have, were all switched to bad_address and they could not pick up their reserved IP address.  Some of them seemed to remember their IP and are still functional, even though their reservation says bad_address.
I assume they will fail either at lease renewal or the next time they are power cycled.  What surprised me was that these bad_address entries' reservations were changed to have an invalid MAC address.
All of them start with a 0 or a 1 and are only 8 characters long.  0401150a, 1701150a, 1901150a, hmmm.   i see a pattern forming.  They all have unique first 3 characters, but everything after that is 1150a.  That led me to figuring
out what this number is.  It's an inverted hexadecimal representation of the ip address that is being complained about.  Why would the DHCP server replace the MAC with this convoluted string?   Is this covered in any manual?
I am pretty sure it's not in the DHCP RFC.
Not sure why it was having the problem, unless somehow the printers were powering and made the DHCP request then discovered that the old lease information was kept somehow (remember, some of the outages were very brief) after the request had gone out.
But that, and nothing else I can think of makes sense.  And it only happens on one model of our printer.  At least so far.  And this isn't the first time we've seen it happen this way.
    Any ideas appreciated.
    Chris

    Hi Chris,
Firstly, it seems that the Unique ID of the DHCP Reservations are inverted to the IP addresses in hex. And, the most possible cause is IP conflict.
    For example:
    0401150a -> 04 01 15 0a (hex) -> 4 1 15 10 (decimal) -> 10.15.1.4 (IP address)
Meanwhile, I agree with the possible cause as you said, however, would you please kindly let us know the following:
    1. How many DHCP Servers do you have? Or, is the DHCP Server multihomed?
    2. Do the printers have multiple NICs?
    3. Are the printers both statically configured and have DHCP Reservations in the DHCP Server?
    4. DO other DHCP clients in the same scope have the same issue?
    5. Is there any trace in DHCP log?
In addition, if Conflict detection is enabled in your DHCP Server, please disable it and see how it works.
Also, please check if you can get some clues from this TechNet Thread:
    DHCP server bad address issue
In addition, as the issue only occur with the same model of printers, it is worth to contact the vendor for their insight on it.
    Hope this helps.

  • Bought a new Ipod touch and the WiFi does not connect.  Tried Reset and total Restore, does not connect to Router on DHCP, tried Static manually and still can not get it to connect even though it registers as connected.

Bought a new Ipod touch and the WiFi does not connect.  Tried Reset and total Restore, does not connect to Router on DHCP, tried Static IP, Subnet, Router and DNS manually and still can not get it to connect even though it registers as connected.  Using Airport for router, latest firmware, no problems with Iphone 4 or Macbook Pro or any other internet devices.  After total Restore (factory settings) tried again, showed connected to router, but does not display "check" next to router but little rotating icon even though the wifi range signal shows connected at full strength and it says it is connected.  Just can't seem to get it to generate an IP.  Any solutions other than turning it on and off again?  Not a Merry Christmas morning.

Ok, so, a couple of things:  Denisefromwaleska and I have the exact same size/type/color iPod.  Now wishing I'd bought the black one maybe...
Second, Airport is an Express and I have a second one that I carry with me when I travel.  Tried to connect my Airport Express to the internet and could not although the iPod did recognize the router and tried to connect to the internet for some time, unlike my previous problem.  Updated firmware on my travel router, still could not connect to the internet.  Going to try to set up a manual Static IP on the travel router here in a few and conect through it although I predict the problem will persist. Back on the Christmas Present Airport Express router, it is back in play and working fine for all devices save the iPod.
Thanks again for all your help, hopefully I can get a solution in place soon,

  • DHCP reservation & DNS for content filtering

    Hi All,
I am working around with server 2008 for quite a while and facing a problem as below,
    1.DHCP reservation error
Server Ip:192.168.0.254 (configured as DNS server for local use only with AD & DHCP)
    DHCP scope: 192.168.0.100 to 192.168.0.200 excluded 192.168.0.100 to 192.168.0.110
earlier the same scope was 192.168.0.10 to 192.168.0.100. I was facing a error when I make a IP reservation against a MAC number error was " The unique identifier may not be correct do you want to use the identifier anyway" when I click yes "DHCP
server received a message from a client that is not valid" and by this error I am not able to make any reservations now against MAC numbers.
The same error was also on the earlier scope and that's why changed to a new scope but did not work. Any solutions will me much appreciated
    2.DNS fine tuning.
I have an open DNS account on which my WAN IP number is configured to do a content filtering. I have two LAN ports with the below IP number
Local : 192.168.0.254 ( configured with no gateway and DNS as loopback (127.0.0.1)
ISP: 192.168.0.253 (with ISP gateway and DNS as loop back adapter & open DNS)
I have did a content filtering and things are working fine. But I got to open up some machines out of this content filtering and when I try to give the IP number in this below fashion.
    192.168.0.115
    255.255.255.0
    192.168.0.1
    DNS
    192.168.0.254
    ISP DNS to avoid filtering
I find that 192.168.0.254 does the resolving and things are still filtered as per the schedule. Is there a way where we can configure 192.168.0.254 (Local DNS server) to stop resolving web requests and only cater to resolving local names for connectivity.
I do know its too long but solutions for the same will be help me out to solve it. Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Vaschell

    Hello,
I have found something strange on the DHCP reservation. When I try to add a MAC number out of the network its able to make out a reservation.
Is there any way to clear the MAC number cache or something else which I can try.
