EA6700 Problems!

Hi,
Just thought I would provide some feedback with regards my EA6700 router.
I purchased a LinkSys EA6700 router last week thinking that at the more expensive end of the home router scale I would be getting something that would out perform my BT Homehub 3 and also allow me to have better control over internet access to prevent my son from spending all night online so he might get some sleep!!
I connected the router up on Friday evening, connected to this I have 2 Seagate NAS drives, 1 Sonos Bridge and fair number of other devices connected wirelessly.  Almost immediately my son started complaining about poor internet speeds and I have to say even just browsing the Internet everything seemed a little sluggish, although I just thought my normally very responsive BT Infinity connection was having an off day
Then today the Internet became unuseable, continually dropping the connection, as I was at work I phoned BT and they did a line test and suggested that there was a problem with the line, now I don't know how these tests work but I assumed that it would be external to the property and the LinkSys router could not be the root cause of my problems.  On returning home I noticed the LinkSys light was off on the top so went to pick the router up to have a look and jesus wept the thing was so hot I burnt my fingers!!!  I have immediately disconnected the **bleep** thing and plugged my old BT Homehub 3 device back in and wham instant 50mb/s download and 15mb/s upload and everybody is happy again!
So needless to say the EA6700 is going back to Amazon tomorrow, a very disappointing experience and one I don't intend to repeat anytime soon!
Andy

Be aware that the USB ports on routers is just for convenience for connectivity and will not obtain anywhere close to any speed you think you should get.  Routers can not obtain USB2.0 speeds so 3.0 is useless.  Routers are designed to ROUTE data from their Ethernet ports and do everything a router does.  USB connections are way down on the list of things to handle.

  • EA6700 WiFi 5GHz strange problem ...

    After a week of action on wifi 5 GHz network is suddenly stopped functioning. (2.4GHz network was turned off)
    Restarts did not help.
    It only activates a network to include 2.4 GHz, or a total restart (default setting) router.
    Has anyone encountered a similar problem?
    The software is very weak, simplistic up (exaggerated)
    No manual configuration features multiple settings (eg NTP....)
    Linksys was famous for its stability and reliability!
    Unfortunately now I can not tell!
    TRAGEDY!

    Nonsense! Just read this forum. All router (all EA6xxx) are damaged? Bugs in the Chipset ?
    If it is a replacement of all devices!
    But linksys certainly will not do it unless it is already a big problem.
    Why? Cash!
    One of many examples:
    "If the EA6700 router was already replaced and the replacement unit is having the same issue, I think the cause of this problem is in your network environment. To support that, you installed another router and experience the same issue. It's very unlikely that all 3 units are defective"

  • Problem about EA6700 USB Storage

    I am using a USB2.0 disk on the EA6700(plug in the usb2.0 slot of the router).
    I can copy file to the usb disk from computer and play movie file on computer directly from the usb disk.
    But when I want to delete the file in the usb disk. The windows7 system pop up an alert said I need some kind of authority to delete the file.(the file that I just copy into usb disk from computer few minutes ago)
    The alert window shows:You need the Linksys\admin authority to delete this file.
    But sometimes the alert is:You need the Unix User\admin authority to delete this file.
    So I go to check the router config.
    USB Storage > Folder Access > Secure Folder Access(already turned ON) and there are 2 authorized users:admin(read & write) and guest(read only)
    USB Storage > FTP Server(already turned ON) and "FTP Port 21" and "Encoding UTF-8"
    USB Storage > Media Server(already turned ON)
    Now I have to plug in the usb disk on computer when I want to delete file.
    How can I directly delete it when it`s on the router?How can I have the authority?
    Thanks very much!

    You may want to contact Microsoft on how to create a login account in your computer. Make sure that the router's Folder and File Sharing was configured properly. Check this link to know more about the USB storage options of the router:

  • Linksys EA6700, "Cannot find the DHCP server"

    Hello all
    I have a Linksys EA6700 router that has given me problems the three months I've had it.
    Typically I get the message "Cannot find the DHCP server" or no message at all. I have everything from three to eight PC's, SqueezeBoxes, Blu-ray players etc hooked up to it.
    Very often one or several of these cannot find the server.
    Is there an easy solution to this problem?
    Any help appreciated!
    Jan

    You can set static ip information on wireless devices that don't connect to other wireless networks.
    Use software like "Wifi Analyzer" for andriod or "inSSIDer" for PC.
    Make sure your wireless signals channels don't overlap with other strong wireless signals and space your wireless channels at least 3 or more channels apart.
    Please remember to Kudo those that help you.

  • Folders added to USB disk connected to EA6700 not seen by Panasonic TV

    Hello,
    I have a Seagate 1.5TB USB ST315005EXA101-RK connected to EA6700.
    The USB disk contains two folders with pictures, and they are fully visible in the Panasonic TV.
    Today I added some other folders to the USB disk, but they are not seen in the Panasonic TV.
    Shall I remove .tmp & cache folders in the USB disk in order to let EA6700 show all folders in the TV ?

    Sorry for not replying to this forum earlier. I have been busy with other tasks.
    I disconnected the USB disk from EA6700, and connected it to my PC.
    Then I removed .tmp and cache folders, and connected the disk back to EA6700.
    Now I see all pictures on TV,
    The lesson from this problem is to reconnect the disk to PC and remove .tmp & cache folders.

  • EA6700 bridge mode does not work - error 2218

    I've just bought WiFi router EA6700-EE and now trying to configure it.
    After connecting to Internet I upgraded its firmware to the latest version.
    I want it to be just a bridge but when I select this option and press OK I get a message (translated from Russian):
    "Unexpected error 2218
    An unexpected error occurred. If this problem persists, please visit our web site technical support.
    Details
    /jnap/ui/SetRemoteSetting"
    Is it possible to fix it?

    What Hardware version is your router?
    What Firmware version is currently loaded?
    What region are you located?
    Was a Factory Reset performed before and after any firmware updates then set up from scratch?
    I recommend doing the following: Download the FW file from the support site first.
    Disable the auto update feature on the router.
    1. Save router config to file first using IE or FF with all security add-ons disabled.
    2. Factory reset the router with all other devices disconnected or turned OFF accept for 1 wired PC.
    http://kb.linksys.com/Linksys/ukp.aspx?pid=80&app=vw&vw=1&login=1&json=1&docid=9d2ff02077f645679972a...
    3. Reload or Update the FW using IE or FF. Just download the FW file to your local wired LAN PC.
    http://kb.linksys.com/Linksys/ukp.aspx?pid=80&app=vw&vw=1&login=1&json=1&docid=0a6881b90224439b92c8d...
    4. Factory reset the router and then set up from scratch first using the local log in link and test with out loading the saved config from file. Check to see if any problems are fixed before loading the saved config from file. Sometimes you need to set up from scratch with out loading the saved config file. Just safer that way.
    PC Web Browser Configurations
    What browser are you using?
    Try Opera or FF? If IE 8, 9, 10 or 11, set compatibility mode and test again.
    Disable any security browser Add-ons like No Script and Ad-Block or configure them to allow All Pages when connected to the router.
    Clear all browser caches.
    Be sure to log into the Admin account on the router.
    Try this as a test and see if cascading method works:

    I am also having this issue (with the exact same error details), the ip is indeed ipv4.
    My current setup is that this router is connected to another router.
    The router giving out the error was previously set up to use automatic dhcp, but then it had dhcp disabled on another screen, instead of setting it up in bridge mode in the first place.
    I went in and tried to set it up in bridge mode, but then it gave out this error.

  • EA6700 Permissions on USB Drive

    My problem apparently involves permissions. I have turned off the Secure Folder Access so everyone on my network *should* have access to all the folders; however, there are two different levels of issues:
    Through wired connections, there are a few folders that can only be accessed and/or modified by the computer that originally created the folder.
    Through wireless connections, none of the folders can be accessed and/or modified.
    When I check properties of the folder(s), I find the Owner listed as "root (Unix User\root)", and am unable to take over ownership. I am running Windows 7 on all machines and have the latest firmware installed. Any assistance will be deeply appreciated.
    BTW:I tried posting this to the "EA6700 USB Hard Disk Support" but received no response.

    I agree with jlbjlb but you may want to reboot the router, or unplug then replug the drive first and see if that will do the trick. And don't forget to backup your files before reformatting the drive. Hoping for the best!

  • Can I use the PLEK500 Powerline Home Plug AV2 to cascade two EA6700 routers, plus?

    Can I use the PLEK500 Powerline Home Plug AV2 to cascade two EA6700 routers?  In otherwords, can I connect my “main router” to a PLEK500 on the third floor . . . then plug in another PLEK500 in the basement (same power lines) and use the Ethernet socket on the PLEK500 to plug into the second EA6700 in a LAN to LAN cascade?  And, if so, can I also use that second EA6700 to run an Ethernet cable to an access point at one end of the house and a different Ethernet cable underground to an out building where I can connect a third EA6700? Finally, from there to a second out building by connecting an Ethernet cable from the third router, underground again, to a 4th EA6700 in the second out building?  All connected LAN to LAN to the main router?  My problem in a nutshell: the main router is on the third floor with no way to run Ethernet cable to the rest of the house.  If I can make the first cascade via the PLEK500 to the basement router, I have access to run an Ethernet cable, via underground pipe, from the basement to the first out building and from that building to the second out building.  I need wireless access to the lower floors of the main house as well as the two out buildings.

    Yes, that is theoretically possible. You just need to make sure that you are using the same circuit for those two power lines to work. • EA6700 won't connect to the modem

    Hi experts!
    N00b here! Since last night, I'm having a problem with my router EA6700: It won't connect to the broadband modem. If I plug my modem straight to my laptop, no problem. But, if I plug the modem to the internet port (yellow port), the activity lights go dead and, of course, I don't have internet connection. However, the link light on my router and on my modem is light up.
    I've tried to power cycle the modem and then the router, no good. Tried to reset the router settings and configure everything back, the Smart Wi-Fi setup gets stuck when looking for an internet connection. Tried new cables, no good. I downloaded the latest firmware (which I was already running) to overwrite the current firmware and then, reset the router settings, same thing. Tried to change the router IP address, still nothing. I cloned the MAC address from my laptop, just in case my ISP had filtered anything, still nothing.
    Any ideas? Has anyone came across with this issue before?
    Thanks
    Ariel
    PS: I'm running on DHCP and firmware is Ver.1.1.40 (build 160989)

    What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
    What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have?
    Is ISP Modem/Service using Dynamic or Static WAN IP addressing?
    What ISP Modem service link speeds UP and Down do you have?
    Check cable between Modem and Router, swap out to be sure. Link>http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CAT6 is recommended.
    Check ISP MTU requirements, Cable is usually 1500, DSL is around 1492 down to 1472. Call the ISP and ask.

    For DSL/PPPoE connections on the router, ensure that "Always ON" option is enabled.
    If the ISP modem has a built in router, it's best to bridge the modem. Having 2 routers on the same line can cause connection problems: Link>http://www.practicallynetworked.com/networking/fixing_double_nat.htm and http://cognitiveanomalies.com/cisco-nat-how-nat-works/. If the modem can't be bridged then see if the modem has a DMZ option and input the IP address the router gets from the modem and put that into the modems DMZ. Also check the routers DHCP IP address maybe conflicting with the ISP modems IP address of 192.168.0.1. Check to see if this is the same on the ISP modem, and if modem can't be bridged, change the DIR router to 192.168.1.1 or .0.254.

  • EA6700, range is really bad

    Hello all
    I just exchanged my old basic Netgear router for Linksys EA6700, which was supposed to be a more powerful router.
    But the range is not good, it doesn't reach as far as the router I had.
    Is there anything I can do to change that?
    Best regards
    Jan

    For devices running on 2.4 GHz, the range can go up to 100-150 feet (30-46 meters).  If your wireless network devices are too far from each other, consider relocating the devices. Wireless networks are also susceptible to obstructions that may lead to low signal.  Oftentimes, the signal gets reflected, refracted, or absorbed by the obstruction: Thick walls and ceilings, mirrors, glasses, metal objects and aquariums.
    Another way to resolve this problem is to upgrade your wireless adapter as well. The wireless connection does not solely depend on the wireless router that you have but also with the wireless adapter installed on your computer. “It takes two to Tango”.

  • Apple TV gen 3 not working with Linksys EA6700

    Hello, I have Apple TV 3 with 5.3 Firmware connecting to Linksys EA6700 is so far impossible. It has always worked with a Technicolour 582n. No problems. But with this Linksys EA6700 Smart router no result of connecting. This is wireless as well with Cable. It stays stuck on Activation as well Setting date and Time. Which results into only Computers and Settings. Been in contact with Linksys. They don't want to burn their fingers on it, so no solution. Before I was able to use it with Firmware 5.02 but now I have tried to restore this and it is not accepting this and gives a fault. Did a wireless restore, did a cable restore, did a micro usb restore. Nothing, nix, nada, horror, horror ! Why is it that Apple TV is NOT working with Linksys routers ? After so many updates from Apple still no inclusion. What is the problem ? Tried also to set DNS server to 8.8.8.8 Disconnected everything, on and off, you name it. It can't be that difficult is it ? Why can't we manually activate and set the time and date by hand ? Something is wrong here. Does Apple refuse to talk to Linksys about this or do they just hate Linksys routers ? Further Linksys EA6700 is working great with every other hardware. Easy installation. No problem with Switches, Computers, Laptops, Ipads, Iphones, Android, ................... But not with Apple TV !

  • EA6700 Internet speed drops

    Hi,
    I recently purchased a brand new EA6700.
    Installed it prperly and started surfing from several devices such as Laptop, ipad and iphone.
    Though the new router slows download speed from 15Mbps to approx. 2-5Mbps.
    My network looks like this:
    ADSL ROUTER-MODEM Siemens SL2-141 and now EA6700 connected to it using CAT5e(from SL2 LAN port to EA6700's internet port)
    After reading almost everything written here, I have done several tweaks yet no success.
    Switched ports at the SL2 ROUTER-MODEM.
    Disabled media prioritization at EA6700.
    Disabled PPPoE at the SL2 and set it at the EA6700 by that changing from the DHCP and the double NAT situation I had before.
    Reset the EA6700 to factory default and reinstall it manually.
    I also wish to inform you that my router's firmware is up to date (1.1.38.149770).
    There is no difference beetween a wired speed test and a wireless one.
    The only tweak that I can recall that helped just a bit was setting the EA6700 at Bridge mode but still it had not solved the problem.
    I'm pretty sure the problam is not the SL2-141 or its connection to the EA6700 since before that router I had an Edimax router which was connected the same way and preformed perfectly with the SL2-141 for several years.
    I have no idea how to proceed from this spot, ANY HELP WILL BE APPRECIATED!

    Hi,
    When you set the PPPoE dialer on the EA6700, have you tried setting up the MTU as well? Based on this link, MTU must be 1492 (or lower) when using PPPoE connectivity. Check the following links on finding your optimum MTU setting:
    How do I optimize my MTU and RWIN settings?
    How do I find my optimum MTU setting?
    Hope this helps.

  • EA6700 replace WRT610n no signal improvement for Chromecast

    Hi there, just replaced WRT610n router with an EA6700 to improve the WIFI signal.
    Honestly speaking, it made zero difference.
    Reason to improve the signal? Have a Chromecast plugged into a Panasonic DT30 TV in bedroom (in reality only some 10 meters away) and it struggles to keep a decent signal.
    In fairness our laptop or Nexus 7 confirms the signal is 'poor' in that location .... they work reliably but visible signal bar shows low signal.
    We know the config itself works as we have three other identical Panasonic/Chromecast units in other rooms which work perfectly.
    My question is - how best to improve the WIFI signal at the Bedroom Panasonic/Chromecast position?
    - could we reuse the WRT610n as an AccessPoint? If so how might that be best done?
    - could we add another new device to amplfy/extend the weak signal to the Chromecast?
    Just to note, we have multiple RJ45 outlets in all rooms, all TV's are RJ45 connected as are 90% of devices e.g Sonos, PS3, Xbox, TV's, Printers etc. So WIFI is ONLY used for 1xNexus 7, 1xIpad, 2xlaptop......rare that more than 3 devices would be used at a time and has never been a performance problem. House is simple brick built 3 bedroom semi.
    Would be very grateful for some direction. I thought a nice new shiny EA7600 would be the simple answer & reviews I read spoke highly of signal. Not so it seems. Setup was simple & all other functions work fine....just not the reason it was purchased.
    Have tried Linksys livechat but although it says live and ready to go, by the time I entered details, it says no agents on line.
    A disapointing day product and support wise but hoping there's a hero out there to shine a light. Many thanks in advance
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    If you can't reconnect to the EA6700 its because you aren't getting an IP from it with the DHCP disabled. On your laptop you can specify an IP Address for the laptop of 192.168.1.253 temporarily to connect to the EA6700.

  • A problem with threads

    I am trying to implement some kind of a server listening for requests. The listener part of the app, is a daemon thread that listens for connections and instantiates a handling daemon thread once it gets some. However, my problem is that i must be able to kill the listening thread at the user's will (say via a sto button). I have done this via the Sun's proposed way, by testing a boolean flag in the loop, which is set to false when i wish to kill the thread. The problem with this thing is the following...
    Once the thread starts excecuting, it will test the flag, find it true and enter the loop. At some point it will LOCK on the server socket waiting for connection. Unless some client actually connects, it will keep on listening indefinatelly whithought ever bothering to check for the flag again (no matter how many times you set the damn thing to false).
    My question is this: Is there any real, non-theoretical, applied way to stop thread in java safely?
    Thank you in advance,
    Lefty

    This was one solution from the socket programming forum, have you tried this??
    public Thread MyThread extends Thread{
         boolean active = true;
         public void run(){
              ss.setSoTimeout(90);
              while (active){
                   try{
                        serverSocket = ss.accept();
                   catch (SocketTimeoutException ste){
                   // do nothing
         // interrupt thread
         public void deactivate(){
              active = false;
              // you gotta sleep for a time longer than the
              // accept() timeout to make sure that timeout is finished.
              try{
                   sleep(91);
              }catch (InterruptedException ie){
              interrupt();

    You can also try to provide a greater Priority to your player thread so that it gains the CPU time when ever it needs it and don't harm the playback.
    However a loop in a Thread and that to an infinite loop is one kind of very bad programming, 'cuz the loop eats up most of your CPU time which in turn adds up more delays of the execution of other tasks (just as in your case it is the playback). By witting codes bit efficiently and planning out the architectural execution flow of the app before start writing the code helps solve these kind of issues.
    You can go through [this simple tutorial|http://oreilly.com/catalog/expjava/excerpt/index.html] about Basics of Java and Threads to know more about threads.
