EA6900 setup on my home network question

Hello,
So I have a home network which has been working fine for several years and I had an older Linksys wifi router but with a new TV I needed the "n" protocal for streaming videos to a wireless connection to the TV.
SO, I installed the new EA6900 and got everyone connected and the TV is connected to it also.......VERY easy setup!! Thanks!
Now the hard part.
I want to have the wireless connection from the TV "see" and grab video from / through my Seagate Central.
What I cannot do is get the EA6900 to "See" the Seagate Central drive even though I have the network ip address for it.
The Seagate is NOT hard wired to the EA6900. The reason being is that the Seagate is in a remote media cabinet and I only have a single cat5 cable coming to the EA6900 location AND the EA6900 CANNOT be located where the Seagate central is. (no signal would get to house.) AND the Seagate central cannot be at the EA6900 location.
My network is setup as follows.
Cable modem > Router > Seagate Central & EA6900
Ask me any questions but be aware I know enough to be dangerous but follow instructions exactly.
Thanks in advance and Merry Christmas all !
Solved!
Go to Solution.

Found answer.
I needed to place the EA6900 in bridge mode. Now I can see the seagate just fine.
Both my main router and the EA6900 were trying to act as a main router.
I found a post about bridge mode and followed the below pasted instructions.
I did find that there were TWO IPv4 listed IP address so make sure you use the IP listed in the IPv4 "SECTION"
Hope this helps someone else!
Before you set the EA6900 to Bridge Mode, get the IPv4 address settings on the Status (Troubleshooting>>>>>Status>>>>Report), please take note of this. After that, set the EA6900 to Bridge Mode (Connectivity>>>>Internet Settings>>>>Edit>>>>>Bridge Mode). Select “Specify an IPv4 address  “option and then set the IPV4 address that you have had on the router, please try to make sure that you set at least 1 DNS Server. This is one of the workarounds of your concern.

  • Need help with QoS config/setup for my home network.

I have a home network that spans two buildings, has and FTP download server, VoIP phones, and several computers among other IP devices.  I run a home based business where my clients get access to the company FTP download server (NOT illegal file sharing).  the problem is that when they are downloading files my VoIP takes a big hit and gets choppy when speaking to my customers.  Below is  the layout of the network.
Our Internet access is Verizon 4G, there are no other options available at this time or we would switch.  The Verizon 4G MiFi connects to a TP-Link wifi router that then connects to port fa0/5 on the Office 3550PoE switch.  There is a trunk between the Office switch to the House 3550PoE switch.  The House switch then connects to the Shop 3524XL switch also using a trunk.  Please note that EVERYTHING works fine other than the VoIP issue, VoIP makes and receives calls without connections issues.
Auto QoS has been run on the Office switch ports fa0/1 and fa0/2 as well as on the House switch ports fa0/3 and fa0/5.  There is NO auto QoS on the 3524XL
What is the best way to give VoIP traffic top priority over FTP and web browsing when going out port fa0/5 on the Office Switch?  Over the internal network we are not having any call quality issues between the IP phones, just calls to our SIP provider.  Yes, I understand that once calls exit the Office switch to the TP-Link wifi router there will not be any QoS.  But, if I can give priority to the packets at the layer 3 Office switch (or wherever you suggest) then at least I will not have to kill a users FTP download while I am on the phone.
    Thank You

I can make ANY changes necessary, just need to know what to do.
First, did you notice the output of the command  sh mls qos fa0/5 above?  Is it working correctly?

  • New Setup for a Home Network

    Hi Everyone,
I just built a new house and am trying to get all my equipment working correctly.  Here's what I currently have:
I have a high speed docsys cable modem for comcast.
I have an SLM 2024 24-port gigabit switch
I have a WRT610N Wirless router that I want to use as a WAP
I'm missing a router and am open to suggestions
I have structured wiring throughout the house and my house consists of the following:
    Downstairs - Kitchen (1-port)
    Downstairs - Study (1-port)
Downstairs - Great Room (1-port for media access to blu-ray)
    Upstairs - Bedroom 1 (1-port currently unused)
    Upstairs - Bedroom 2 (1-port currently unused)
Upstairs - Master Bedroom (1-port for media access to blu-ray)
    Upstairs - Entertainment Room (4 - ports // 2 (Computers), 1 (Wireless-N router), (1-port used for media access to xbox-360))
4-additional ports will be used for multi-media (currently not designated)
So, I have a total of 10-14 ports throughout the house that will be used.
In the basement, all of the structured wiring leads down to a can and a 24-port patch panel.  The cable modem is plugged in to a whip and will be plugged into a router (need help on which router I should use).  The router will be plugged into the SLM2024 switch.  The SLM2024 switch feeds the patch panel in the Can.  The WRT610n is upstairs on one of the ports that is fed into the SLM2024.
I also have a multi-media server that I'm probably going to place in the basement which has 4-terabytes of space for media storage and sharing.  It also acts as a simple home server.
So, my questions are how am I connecting and setting things up so that I'm efficient with my usage?  I already have one vlan (vlan 1) but haven't created any others.  Can anyone assist me with what router I should get and how I should connect my network up efficiently?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

    I've attached 5 pictures.
    Board View:
This is the overall 8x4 board where I've placed the can and the SLM switch.  The little box in front is a small acer media server (4 terabytes) which I use for storing media, pictures, etc.
    Switch:
This is the SLM 2024 - 24 port Gigabit Switch.  It's very quiet and works well with everything.
    Can:
A basic can that I setup which has the patch panel at the top of the can, my modem and router in the bottom along with a small surge strip.  I may change out the surge strip later on, but for now - this works fine.
    Modem - Router:
The bottom box is the Docsys 3 modem from motorola.  You need docsys 3 to really take advantage of the high speed download packages a cable provider gives you.  I purchased my own to cut down on the monthly lease charge and made it simpler.
The top box is the 8-port gigabit router which I use for managing DHCP routing, NAT, and the firewall.
The modem connects to the router and the router feeds down through the bottom of the can and into the switch.
    Patch Panel:
The patch panel basically is divided into three color schemes that I created.  The blue cables are for voice; the green cables are for data; and the black cables are for cable.
The original patch cables that I had purchased with the can were not very good.  They were rated fine but they were too thin.  So, I used thicker coaxial cable so that no degradation occurs.  Because of the thickness, I ended up having to bow tie the cables in a medium loop.  Again, it works very well.
    Summary:
    I hope the pictures help.
The only thing I didn't post (due to the 5-pic limit) was a picture of my WRT-610N Wireless router.  It sits upstairs in the entertainment room and is plugged into a direct wall data jack.  The broadcast range is huge.  I currently have zero issues with any ports or wireless access in the house.
I also just finished working out the video pieces as well for the multimedia in the house.  It all ties into everything as well.  I used velcro straps for cable ties on my lines and black ties for the cabling that belongs to the static video equipment (which is not posted).  For the video equipment and sound equipment I actually have a universal remote that's tied into a command center and receiver which allows me to turn on any device in the house (TVs, Cable, Ipod, XM Satellite, Xbox 360, etc.  I can go to watch or listen mode and decide which room I want to use, which device to turn on and then the universal remote becomes the master.  I tied my computers into the command center so I can use any computer in any location and view it on the 63-inch plasma TV in the great room and utilize it with a bluetooth setup.
There's still a lot more work to be done but it's getting there.

  • Setting up a home network questions

I have a router/modem that is DHCP that my IP provided me with. I have purchased two 5 port switches. One switch is 10/100/1000 the other is 10/100. I plan to hook eight computers together. Please tell me if I am planning this out correctly. The modem/router will hook into the 10/100/1000 switch. My computer will plug into this switch as well as my son's emac G4 as both computers can utilize the speed. The 10/100 switch will also hook into the 10/100/1000 switch and then will have several computers hooked into it. Does this sound right?
The computers are not all in the same room, so we plan to run wire through the wall. I don't know what kind of wire to purchase or jacks. Advice here would be appreciated. Thanks.

As Jeff provided, it is called CAT-5 and there are electrical cover plates to install where the cable is drawn thru the wall - just like an electrical outlet. The cable behind the wall connects into the back of the plate and the front includes an Ethernet insert to connect an Ethernet cable from the router.
Regarding the potential of people stealing your wireless connection, a neighbor must be within 150 feet or so of the wireless router and in addition, you can password protect/encrypt the wireless network so no one can steal your wireless network/internet connection.
I currently live in a nice "Apartment Home" community with an Airport Base Station (Snow) used for my wireless network and my network is password protected and encrypted which is easy to do with an Airport Extreme Base Station or Airport Express. You can also enable a "closed" network which is not broadcasted to others. Some of my close neighbors also have wireless networks - a couple are password protected but a couple are not.

  • First-time home networking question

I recently purchased a Linksys WRT54G wireless router to set up a home wireless network, with the intent of hooking up my newly-acquired Nintendo Wii wirelessly to the Internet.  I thought it was as simple as hooking the router up and watching it go - boy was I sadly mistaken.  I kept getting a message stating that there was limited or no internet connectivity.  Do I need to do something on the DSL modem side to get this to work?  HELP!!!  Any advice would be appreciated.  The router was hooked up according to the directions on the installation CD.

Ok. So after you have downloaded and upgraded the router firmware, just do the following steps:
    For Physical Connections:
► modem goes into internet port
► PC1 goes into Port 1 (or any of the numbered ports)
    To properly set-up the Internet:
► On the PC connected/ hardwired to the router, open up internet explorer and type in the numbers 192.168.1.1 on the address bar (username just leave it blank and password as a default is usually admin)...
► MAC Address Clone - clone then save settings
► Look for the Local IP Address and change the value from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.2.1
► save the settings and then close out of the page
► go to the DOS prompt and the release and renew the IP
► then turn off devices in the ff order: PC-router-modem , and then reboot them in the opposite order.
This process should now at least allow to get online wired to the router.
    To set-up Wireless:
► re-open the router UI ---> this time the new number to be used is 192.168.2.1 (same username and password as before)....
► go to the tab labeled wireless and edit out the ff setting:
SSID: (this will be the name of your wireless network - so any name placed here would do)
    Channel: (suggested value is 11)
    - save settings
► Go to the wireless security subtab and enable WEP - input a random word under passphrase and generate it... write down all key1 values...
    - save settings
    To connect a laptop wirelessly:
    ► view avaiable wireless networks
► look for your SSID and connect to it
    - if it asks for your network key - input your key 1 values.... and hit connect!
If all goes well, you should now be online wired and wirelessly to your router...

  • Simple Home Networking Question

Hi, I've got a dumb question.
I have an iMac with airport extreme and am going to purchase an iBook with airport extreme and want to buy a base station or router to use my internet connection wirelessly as well as share between the two machines.
The question is, do I need to make the base station or router connected to one of the computers at all times? Can I have the base station sitting somewhere and then connect both machines to it wirelessly? Or does on machine have to serve the base station?
    Please help. Thanks.

...because I was told they're a easier to use than the non-Apple routers.
That is all subjective. Non Apple routers are typically configured using any web browser. The Apple base stations all require the use of special Apple software.
Of the basic Airport base station, Airport Express, and Airport Extreme, which one is best if all I want to do is make my iBook wireless?
All of them are equally well at creating a wireless network.
If you have any devices which need to connect via Ethernet, you do not want the AirPort Express (AX).
Currently Apple is only selling the square 802.11b/g/n AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS) and the 802.11b/g AX.
The older round 802.11b/g AEBS and the AX have a USB port which supports a single compatible USB printer.
The new square 802.11b/g/n AEBS has a USB port which supports multiple USB hard drives and USB printers.
You may also want to take a look at the table on iFelix's site.

  • I setup a Cisco Home Network and Need help Logging into It

Hello, I have four 2521 routers and three 2954 switches.  I connected my ISPs modem from the ethernet port and plugged it into port 24 of one of my switches.  I also configured the switch for VTY access and gave it a login password.  I would like to log into the switch to configure it and telnet into all the other devices from a remote location.  But I am unable to ping the public address assigned to me by my ISP.  So I can't even telnet to the switch.  Help

With help from elsewhere, I have learned how to change the colors and figured out a few other things. I have another question, though.
I want to put a Twitter widget and a comment box on my website. I have the widget code from Twitter, but it is HTML and javascript or something. Can I just put these codes into the modules of the flash template? If you look at the template, you should see that it has modules that have editable HTML  text areas, but I don't know if it is limited to text or something, or if it will function correctly if I put other HTML codes in it such as script codes, etc in it.
Also, if that works, does anyone know where I can get a code to put the comment box in one of the modules? I don't mean a contact box, I mean a widget where people can leave comments and the comments display on the page, like on a myspace profile. Just something simple that allows a visitor to leave a name and a text-only comment. I would also like to be able to selectively delete comments in case of spammers, etc.
I found this, which might be what I am looking for, just a simple comment box, but this one is flash:

Yes, on the 'source' Mac, in iPhoto Preferences/Sharing check "Share my Photos"
in iTunes Preferences/Sharing check "Share my Library on local Network"
and in System Preferences/Sharing check "Remote Apple Events"
On the remote Mac's check "Look for shared Music/Photos" in iTunes/iPhoto Preferences
For your Documents check "Personal File Sharing" on the source Mac and then remotely mount with Go/Connect to server

  • How to setup a home network

I want general information on the best way to setup a in home network between mac and non mac computers with an airport router. Should I have a stand alone computer?  Should I consider using a mac mini for this purpose or is that not necessary?

No  you don't need a stand alone computer. If you could let us know what you're trying to achieve we can give you some specifics. However here is a link that provides some fundamentals.
    http://macs.about.com/od/networking/qt/sharingleopard.htm
If you use Google and ask specific questions you can find plenty of information. The above article indicates how to set up sharing on a network between Macs and Windows computers. You can share file, printers, scanners etc...as you will soon discover.

  • How to setup once an Airport home network and keep it alive?

    Hello!
I have the following hardware setup:
    1 - A Macmini 2009, Ethernet wired to my router which allows the connection to the internet;
    2 - An HP Deskjet printer, USB connected to the Macmini;
3 - My wife's laptop PC, WiFi connected to my Mac.
My Macmini handles the internet connection the traditionnal way (Ethernet and PPoE) and has a static IP on it.
(Why a Static IP? Because I run my own Webserver.)
I set up a WiFi Home Network in order to allow my wife sharing both my Internet Connection and the Printer Connection.
Everything run well: fast and smooth. The PC has Internet and Printer access.
    Problem is:
After each restart, I must re-create the Airport home network.
System Preferences-->Airport doesn't memorize the name, parameters and credentials of this network.
    How can I fix this?
Many thanks in advance for your replies!
    Best regards
    Gerry

If your router is wireless, you should probably use the laptop to configure it to take care of the network (i.e. have the router distribute the IP addresses). Then you can connect your computer to it via the LAN port on the router. Otherwise, you would have to set up your computer to "share its Internet connection" (via Preferences/Sharing or Preferences/Network not sure). I don't think you need to create a network for this.

  • I have several questions: 1. When I connect my Iphone using Wi-Fi what can I then do? Why won't my Iphone recognize my home network run off of Airport Extreme, and the app Nike   Ipod sensor never activates.

I went to Starbucks this morning and my Wi-Fi on my Verizon Iphone connected, what does this allow me to do? My Wi-Fi does not recognize my home network from which I connect wirelessly to my MacBookPro and to my Apple TV using Airport Extreme router, why? Lastly, what do about the app NIke + Ipod not working. The sensor does not activate even after walking a half mile.

It might be best to ask only one question in each post otherwise you may never be able to mark them as solved.

It should allow you to access the internet, read mail, etc.
My Wi-Fi does not recognize my home network from which I connect wirelessly to my MacBookPro and to my Apple TV using Airport Extreme router, why?
Try restarting your router (remove power for 30 seconds and restart). It may not be properly assigning an IP address to your iPhone.

  • Help needed to setup my Printer to work on home network...Please!!!

I recently purchased my first Mac, a G5 PowerPC. I have connected it to my home network (3 windows PC's and my G5) by way of a LAN router and everything works fine except getting my printer to function correctly.
I have an Epson DX4850 which works fine when connected directly to my G5 via USB but I cannot get it to work properly when connected to one of the Windows's PC's, its prefered location.
    I have done the following;
Opened the Printer Setup Utility and clicked "Add"
In the Printer Browser I selected "More Printers"
In the 2 drop down menu's I selected "Windows Printing" and "Network Neighborhood"
Then selected the name of my home network, then the name of the computer the printer is connected to then the actual printer.
The problem seems to be that the Printer Model is listed as "Generic". When I try direct it toward my specific printer all I can find are GIMP drivers under Epson. If I select "Other" in order to navigate to my specific printer driver I seem to have trouble locating it.
    Any help would be appreciated

works fine except getting my printer to function

I suspect that I know why. Several printer vendors, including Epson & HP, have for reasons which make sense to them elected to NOT properly support the CUPS print system which OS X uses and has used since 10.2. Those who support CUPS properly deliver drivers which will work with any connection, including being shared across a network. Those who don't, well...
In the particular case of Epson, they're trying to push this thing: <http://www.buyepson.co.uk/Catalog/ProductDetails.aspx?PID=C12C824025>.
Actually, it does make more sense to use a device which puts the printer directly on the network than to share it from a computer. However, it seems... unlikely that anyone with sense will actually buy a 160GBP thingie to attach to a 100GBP MFD... Buying a second MFD would appear to make more sense.

There should be a specific GIMP driver for it. I think. I'm not sure, as the DX4850 isn't sold in the US, and many/most of the GIMP drivers for Epsons are written in the US. Which means that there may not be a driver specifically for that device, because the guys who'd write the driver for it haven't been able to get their hands on a machine to work with. If you can find out which print engine is at the heart of the MFD (the Stylus C86 or C88 engine is a possibility, but I don't know, I've never actually touched a DX4850) you can use the driver for that printer and it'll work just fine. At least, my old CX5400 used to work using the C84 GIMP driver.
When I try direct it toward my
specific printer all I can find are GIMP drivers
    under Epson.
This is because Epson's own drivers don't do sharing. This is a Feature, according to Epson. That way it doesn't interfere with their external, expensive, USB-to-ethernet print thingie. The GIMP drivers do do sharing.
If I select "Other" in order to
navigate to my specific printer driver I seem to have
    trouble locating it.
There isn't one from Epson. (Unless you have 160 pounds you're not doing anything with...) There may be a GIMP driver which will work.
    Any help would be appreciated
