Each song on my iTunes has a duplicate. How do I delete all duplicates and prevent this from happening again in the future?

Each song on my iTunes has a duplicate. How do I delete all duplicates and prevent this from happening again in the future?

After I had updated to Itunes 11 (also on Windows 7), I had the same experience, but I suspect that it was because I accepted a proposal to set up an external media library in order to simplify security backups. An associated result was that I had lost all of my playlists!
What I did was to restore the entire library off my Ipod, using a very good program called PodToPC (a free download is available) selecting an option to replace all of the stuff in the Itunes library. I use the Ipod Classic simply because it has a large capacity to hold my collection of CD and Vinyls. No way was I going to modify duplicates of 10000 tracks in 750 playslists by hand!  I did have a few residual problems with some of the playlist specs but, after a few hours of work all was restored.
I hope this is useful.

When I updated my iphone 4 with itunes. it deleted songs and changed my ringtones. How do I stop this from happening in the future and get my songs replaced?

You have POP mail account.   That's how those types of email accounts work.
You want an IMAP type of account, where if you delete on phone, it will also delete on server.   Should you ever restore your device again it will only update the mail that hasn't been deleted.
You didn't say which email service you use, but try contacting them to see if they offer IMAP.  Or you can switch.

  • Each time I click on a link, firefox opens up the page in a new window, how do I prevent this from happening, ie. view the page in the current window?

Until I installed an Adobe update, my firefox worked fine, I have had to restore my computer and restart firefox due to advertising which was installed along with the update. Now each time I click on a webpage, a new tab opens and I can no longer view the webpage in the current tab. As you can tell, I am not that computer savy, but I have tried to change all the settings in the options and nothing has worked. I hope this makes sense, please help as it's driving me mad having all of these tabs.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
See [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] and [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
You have to close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

  • My Itunes library deleted all my music except two of the songs I bought from the store. They're all still on my phone, but I can't seem to be able to move them all back. I can get the music back another way, but I want to prevent it from happening again.

I'm not sure why it deleted everything. I had rearranged and cleaned up my desktop earlier, but I know for a fact I didn't delete anything. Now, I go onto my Itunes and only two songs I bought off Itunes are there. I had more that I bought, but even the ones I took off my CDs aren't there anymore. I had over four hundred songs and they're all gone. I can put all the music back on because I have it saved elsewhere, but I want to prevent this from happening again. Does anyone know what might have happened? I really want to keep using Itunes, but its becoming more of a hassle than anything.

  • When iTunes upgraded, many of my song tags were changed by iTunes.  This happened again when an update was sent this week.  Is there any way to avoid this happening again in the future?

When I downloaded the new iTunes, it changed the tags on some of my tracks.  As a result, I had to fix them manually.  When I downloaded another upgrade this week, my tags changed again.  How can I prevent this from happening in the future?

The cricual thing is to have a complete backup of your library that you could restore if needed.
What changes are you noticing? There appear to be some new as yet not well documented features designed to sync data across multiple libraries/devices which may have unwanted side effects.

  • The update (5.0) version is or is saying that it will erase all my media including my itunes music and purchases... How do I prevent this from happening?

I want to update my Ipod Touch 4th Generation with the 5.0 version, but it says, "Updating it to iOS 5 will delete all of the media, including Itunes store purchases, on your Ipod Touch. To preserve this content, apply this update on the computer where you sync  music, videos, and pictures." How do I prevent this from erasing everything on my Ipod?

You don't prevent this from happening.  This is the way it is.
Everything should be on your computer.  Is it not?
You should never update without making sure that everything is on your computer and backed up.

  • My entire iTunes library has been duplicated.  How can I delete all duplicates at once rather than each one individually?

My entire iTunes library has been duplicated.  Is there any command that will let me delete all duplicates at once, rather than each individual song?

    In particular:
Once you have used the Show Exact Duplicates feature* you can set about deleting all but one copy of each duplicate file. If all the duplicates have recently been added into your library then you could sort the list on the date added column, select a range of tracks with SHIFT-click and delete all the recent entries.
    * On a Mac hold down Option, then click File > Show Exact Duplicates.

  • Is there a way to prevent this from happening everytime I connect my ipod to itunes?

Every time I sync my my iPod 5th gen to iTunes all my previous purchased on iTunes doubles on my iPod. Before if I have everything already on there it re-syncs and most song double but it's complete radon each time, if it is not all of them to.

    First
Find and remove duplicate items in your iTunes library - Apple Support
Duplicate songs on my iPod Touch
    then
    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync/delete all music and resync
To delete all music go to Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Manage Storage>Music>Tap edit in upper right and then tap the minus sign by All Music
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • How do I Delete all Duplicate Photos?

I have several copies of the same photos in iPhoto and under Pictures in the HD. I am not sure how they got duplicated in the first place, but there has got to be a simple way to delete all duplicates, right? I have like 10,000 images and many of them are duplicates, and many of them are images from my text books that I do not want.
I have iWork and MobileMe if that helps at all...

I don't know. They all claim to find duplicate files. The poster will need to read the Read Me files to confirm if the duplicates inside the iPhoto library folder are included.

  • Apps disappearing from my new iPad 2 after I joined the iCloud, then they show up on my PC iTunes!  How can I prevent this from happening??

I just bought my first Apple computer - an iPad 2.  I downloaded a bunch of apps and they showed up on my desktop and I was using them.  I then turned on the iCloud function, and soon after all my apps were gone from the iPad.  Today I just noticed that they now show up on my home PC iTunes under APPS.  I don't want them there!  How do I keep this from happening???

If you have iTunes 11 on your computer then you can enable the left-hand sidebar on it via option-command-S on a Mac, control-S on a PC - when connected (and if your computer's iTunes is up-to-date) your iPad should then appear on that sidebar under a 'Devices' heading :
If you select the iPad on that sidebar you can then use the Movies tab on the right-hand side of the iTunes screen to select and sync that film to your iPad's Videos app.
Has your iPad been synced to the computer before ? If not then you might find this page for syncing to a new computer useful : https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3141

  • How do i delete all duplicates in my iphoto ?

I have so many duplicates of photos on my iphoto on my macbook pro and on my iphone and I want to find an easy way to delete all duplicates in one easy step instead of going through 4,000 pictures.

There is no way to compare for duplicates across threetwodevices running two different OSes and applications.
Some apps for dealing with duplicates in iPhoto on your Mac:
    iPhoto Library Manager
    Duplicate Annihilator
    Decliner
    iPhoto Duplicate Cleaner

  • How do I delete all or multiple synced apps from iTunes where the app has already been removed from iPad?

I have recently purchased the latest iPad and been trying lots of apps.  These apps are synced with iTunes on a regular basis.  I want to delete synced apps from my iTunes backup that I have removed from my iPad.
I am aware of a manual way of removing apps from the iTunes backup but it is far too painful and cumbersome.  You have to select the iPad under devices, click the apps tab up the top, and then see which items are not ticked (which runs very slow I might add, but it is a big list).  After noting them down, I then visit the apps section under library on the left, highlight all the unwanted apps, right click and delete.
Unless there is some special way of doing this that I am un aware of, it would be really helpful if the libary application view had a column which informed me which ones were still on my iPad.  I could then sort by that column, and then delete all the removed apps.

Yes, delete all the apps currently in iTunes, then transfer all the apps currently on the iPad back into iTunes. Of course it will take some time to sync the apps back into iTunes, but it satisfies your desire to remove all apps from iTunes that are not on your iPad without the need to laboriously note what is and is not there. In fact as a bonus after removing all the apps from iTunes you could open the ..\iTunes Media\Mobile Applications folder and delete any remaining orphaned files that might still be there, before you transfer purchases.

  • How can I delete all those ! dead files from iTunes without having to do it manually?

I recently merged 2 iTunes libraries into 1 on a PC. This has resulted in 1000's of dead files, notated by a ! (exclamation point). Does anyone know of a quick way of removing all of these without needing to spend many hours doing it manually?

    Lost & Found
Create a playlist called Found, select everything in Music and drag it into the Found playlist (it may take some time to count the tracks that are to be dropped). Create a smart playlist called Lostmatching All the rules Playlist is Music and Playlist is not Found. Your lost tracks will be in this playlist. You should be able to select all the tracks in this playlist with CTRL-A and then remove them from iTunes with CTRL-SHIFT-DELETE.
Or use iTunes Folder Watch with its option to check for dead tracks on start up.
However if the broken tracks are duplicates of non-broken files then I've written a script called DeDuper which can help remove unwanted duplicates, merge ratings, play counts and playlist membership, and remove dupes with dead links as long as there is one real file to merge the stats to. See this  thread for background. I also have a tool called FindTracks for fixing the broken links if the files are sill there but not quite where iTunes is looking for them. For more details see this thread.

  • How can I delete all duplicate frames in a clip?

I'm working with footage captured from a game engine on a Mac.  When the graphics processing get's intense the graphics card struggles to keep up.  What ends up happening is that the card continues to output every frame (e.g., it does not skip frames) but is only able to do so at a reduced pace - say, five frames a second.  The screen cap software just captures at a predetermined rate - say, thirty frames per second.  The result is that the captured clip has loads of sequential duplicate frames.  The good thing is that since no frames were skipped you get a buttery-smooth playback if you manually (tediously) remove every single duped frame.
So, is there any tool that will automate this process?  There is a script that does exactly what I need called Duplicate Frame Remover available at Duplicate Frame Remover - aescripts + aeplugins - aescripts.com but sadly, this script is not compatible with After Effects CC.  Can anyone think of any other option for After Effects or Premiere?  Ideally this would cut out the audio for the duped frames as well.
    Thanks,
    Hales

The frame rate varies depending on what's happening in the simulation, and there is a clock in the scene, so I have verified that when you remove duplicate frames manually you get a clip where one second=one second and perfectly smooth playback.  I'm running dual GTX 980s in SLI, so faster card isn't really feasible.  In any case the capture is of an intense physics simulation and I've since determined that the graphics aren't the bottleneck, rather the CPUs are - and those are equally muscular, so not a lot of room for improvement there either.  Anyway, as I said above, a tool exists, it's just not compatible.  I was just hoping someone else had picked up the gauntlet and written a similar script that works with CC.
