Each time I click the "Open a New Tab" button, how do I make FF open to my homepage and why isn't this default behavior?

Firefox does not default to your homepage when you manually open a new tab. It should do so.
Is there a way to make FF do this? Is it an addon? If so, should this not be default behavior and just be incorporated into the browser?

# Type about:config in Firefox's location bar
# Find browser.newtab.url
# Double click on it
# Paste your homepage link into the text box
# Click Ok

I updated to iOS 5.0. Now each time I sync the "other" category of memory grows. It is now up to 7.5 GB and I don't have room for videos. I deleted a .3 GB video and the tried to put it back on. Now it says the memory is full. It seems to not release memory once something is deleted.

You need to restore your iPad now since "other" continues to grow with each sync. Something got corrupted when you were syncing and that is what probably caused this. This will explain how to restore.

You can restore from a backup at the very end of the process - but if you restore from the backup and then the problem does not go away, you will have to restore to factory settings and then add all of your content back onto the device.
BTW ... Other contains all of your app data, bookmarks, contacts, emails, text messages, some game save data and things of that nature.

• Can the "ADD-A-NEW-TAB" button be reconfigured to be adjacent to existing tabs (like it used to be)? I am a left-handed tablet user who finds it's position on the far right side of screen very inconvenient.

In previous version of Firefox, the "add-a-new-tab" button has been located to the right of any existing tabs. In the latest version it's been moved to the far right of the screen. In tablet mode, this is too far to reach conveniently for a left-hander. I cannot find any controls to re-configure it to the way it used to be and I can't "drag" it to where I want it. Is there a way to relocate it?

Thanks. I don't know why it wouldn't just go back there when I tried putting it back? I didn't change anything, so I assumed the new "default" was over on the left. Glad it was a simple solution after all.

• I just updated to Firefox 3.6.12 and now every time I click anything online a new tab opens. How do I return to normal (clicking a link opens it in current page and tab)?

I'm used to clicking a link on a news story or any searched link on google and having my current page go there. Now my current page stays the same and any link I click opens in a new tab. This is very annoying. I just want my browser to go there.

Google Toolbar Options, in the Search tab, make sure that Enable the Google new tab page is check-marked. If that doesn't fix it for you, see this for support information about the Google Toolbar. <br />

As far as your UserAgent showing Firefox 3.0.11, see this: <br />

You might want to consider getting rid of that desktopsmiley program that has messed up your UserAgent, it is known as Malware.

• Every time I click on anything on a page it opens it in a new tab. How do I make it stop?

That's pretty much it. Any link I click on opens in a new tab. For example anything on facebook: a new notification, clicking on pictures, clicking on the facebook icon to refresh the page. I can't click on anything with out it opening a new tab.

On FB, links to external sites usually open in a new tab or new window, but links within FB usually stay in the same tab.
Do you have any tab-related add-ons that might be changing how links work? For example, you can check your extensions on the following page. You may want to disable everything nonessential and restart Firefox to see whether that cures it.
orange Firefox button or classic Tools menu > Add-ons > Extensions category

• I'd like to have web links open automatically in a new tab. How do I make this happen?

1. When I open Firefox I have it set up that my gmail page automatically opens. When I want to go to another web site a new tab does not open but replaces my gmail tab. Then I have to use "back" or "history" to return to the gmail page. This gets difficult when I have been surfing the web & then have to go "back" thru numerous web pages. I'd like each web page to open in it's own tab. How do I do this?
2. Also, in google help it stated: " If you want to open a link in a new tab instead, just right-click on the link and select Open Link in New Tab from the context menu. " I tried this & the "Open Link in New Tab" did not appear in the menu. Can you assist me in locating this menu?

If you use Ctrl + left-click or middle-click a link then the link should open in a new tab.<br />

• How can I force a new window each time I click on Safari?

I am trying to set up a Mac for my parents with the same functionality as their old Windows box. In windows each time you click the IE icon it opens a new window. In Safari each time you click on the safari icon it just opens the current window you have open.
I know you can do a CTRL+N or use tabs but I am trying to set this computer up exactly as their old one. Does anyone know if there is a setting that will open up a new Safari window each time the icon is clicked in the Dock?

There is a way to do it, but it's not reliable due to the way that web sites create links on their pages. Some are coded with JavaScript, and that will override any behavior you might want.
It's not hard to just put your thumb on the Command key and click a link or a bookmark; it will produce the same result as the other way I mentioned, but without needing to download, install, and configure a third-party "hack". It also has the added benefit of having one finger always in position to Copy or Paste something.

It seems to work again but can I get rid of opening permission request please? I may have 2 versions of the browser in the computer or the new program did not replace the old?

Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a Clean reinstall. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:
Note: You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.
#Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
#After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu).
#Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
#*Windows:
#**C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
#**C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
#*Mac: Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
#*Linux: If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see Installing Firefox on Linux. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the Firefox download page, simply remove the folder firefox in your home directory.
#Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
##Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
##Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
Please report back to see if this helped you!
Thank you.

• Homepage not opening only "new tab" button showing

To whom it may concern:
I noticed some problems with Firefox 18.0.1.
I closed the browser using the "exit" button(not a button but you know what I mean) and the next time I opened the browser instead of my "Home Page" being the first thing I see I instead see a tab with the words "New Tab" and a totally blank page ie white page. When I click on the "Create a new tab" button a new tab does open and my home page is on that tab but isn't on the very first tab.
Another problem is that my tabs are gone from my last session when I re-open the browser. Yes, I have it set up in options that Firefox is "supposed" to show my windows and tabs from my last session and that is NOT happening. I also tried closing the browser using the red "X" and still have the same results. Had I known this was going to be an issue I would have stayed with version 17!!!

Start Firefox in <u>Safe Mode</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

• New tab button not working how do i fix it

I found today that my "open new tab" button was not working, so i exited out of firefox and it downloaded a new update, even after that it still did not work so i tried restarting the computer and it still doesnt work

The Ask Toolbar is causing that in the Firefox 3.6.13+ versions. Uninstall that extension.
There are a couple of places to check for the Ask toolbar:
* Check the Windows Control panel for the Ask Toolbar - http://about.ask.com/apn/toolbar/docs/default/faq/en/ff/index.html#na4
* Also check your list of extensions, you may be able to uninstall it from there - https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Uninstalling+add-ons

• I can't get Firefox to open a new tab each time I click on a link or favorite. It keeps loading onto the current tab.

I went to Tools>Options>Tabs and entered a check mark next to the first entry, "Open New Windows in a New Tab Instead" but it still does not open a new tab each time I click on a link or one of my favorites. It used to way back in earlier versions of Firefox but hasn't for the past few iterations...am I doing something wrong or do I need to activate something else within Firefox?

"I went to Tools>Options>Tabs and entered a check mark next to the first entry, "Open New Windows in a New Tab Instead" but it still does not open a new tab each time I click on a link or one of my favorites."
That option only controls pages that would open in a new window based on the code on the website page you are visiting.
Firefox's default is to open a link or a Bookmark in the currently selected tab.
You have some options to have links and/or Bookmarks open in a new tab:
*middle-click the link or Bookmark (middle-click = press the mouse scroll wheel)
*CTRL+left-click the link or Bookmark
*right-click the link or Bookmark and choose "Open in New Tab"
*install one of the following and set the options to automatically open links or Bookmarks in a new tab:
**Tab Utilities Lite: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/tab-utilities-lite/
**Tab Utilities (a few more options than the "Lite" version): https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/tab-utilities/
**Tab Mix Plus (a heavyweight tab utility extension): https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/tab-mix-plus/

• Each time I click on a link, firefox opens up the page in a new window, how do I prevent this from happening, ie. view the page in the current window?

Until I installed an Adobe update, my firefox worked fine, I have had to restore my computer and restart firefox due to advertising which was installed along with the update. Now each time I click on a webpage, a new tab opens and I can no longer view the webpage in the current tab. As you can tell, I am not that computer savy, but I have tried to change all the settings in the options and nothing has worked. I hope this makes sense, please help as it's driving me mad having all of these tabs.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
See Troubleshooting extensions and themes and Troubleshooting plugins
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the Safe mode start window to disable all extensions.
You have to close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")
