Each word of text has a gigantic, mostly empty box -- how do I fix this?

Hi, I'm editing a bar chart with text labels that was created by someone else (I'm guessing it was pasted in from Excel). Each word is a separate object that is inside a huge box. I can't select more than one of these at a time to, for example, align them to each other or to the bars. The graphic seems to consist of a zillion overlapping, 90% empty elements on one layer. I'm not an Illustrator power user so I'm hoping someone can either (1) confirm that that's normal and tell me how to deal with it or (2) confirm that I'm SOL. (It doesn't seem right for every word to be a separate element, either, but I could deal with that if I could just grab them and move them. There isn't anything equivalent to InDesign's "fit frame to object," is there?) I hate to waste the client's time if there's some obvious, easy way to do this that I'm just not aware of. I'm using Illustrator CS6. Thanks for any clues!

Probably clipping masks. You could check that in the layer panel.
You would need to expand all these masks and then delete the empty mask objects (select them by their attributes: stroke and fill = none)

ALL of my messages have the date and time. I just sent that one to get something generic to post. It's true that each text in a conversation does not have its own time stamp, if there is a minimal amount of time between texts, but take a look at this. "R" replied 25 minutes after my initial text and that message has date/time. I replied immediately and that one does not.

FIX:
1. You need Time Machine
2. Go to folder /Library/CoreMediaIO/Plug-Ins/DAL/
3. Copy AppleCamera.plugin to good place (usb memory stick is the best place).
4. Go to Time machine in date that skype work fine.
5. Change AppleCamera.plugin with file from Time Machine
6. Restart system, Now skype need to work with camera.

Try this.
Erase and Reinstall OS X
Note: This will delete all data on the disk. Back up important files before continuing.
Erasing and then reinstalling OS X can give you a fresh start, making your computer exactly as it was whenever you received it from Apple. This can solve various problems such as corrupt system files.
Shut down the computer by going to Apple () > Shut Down…
Select Shut Down or allow the computer to shut down automatically.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter into a power source and then connect it to your Mac if you have not already done so.
Press the Power Button to turn on the computer.
Press and hold both the R and Command (⌘) keys on the keyboard until the Recovery partition loads.
Select Disk Utility and then choose Continue.
Select your startup disk (Macintosh HD by default) from the left.
Select the Erase tab.
Choose the Format pop-up menu and choose Mac OS Extended (Journaled), enter a name for your disk, and then click Erase.
After the disk is erased, choose Disk Utility > Quit Disk Utility.
Select Reinstall OS X and then choose Continue.
Follow the instructions.

Multiple forums have addressed the fact that Yahoo is hijacking new tabs. I installed the ShopAtHome toolbar - which I love - but then I get Yahoo installed (mysteriously and uninvited).
I would like the new tab to reset to its default of: either the panels of previous sites, or the blank page. The prior issues relating to netassistant do not work.

Do you think that upgrading to Mountain lion would stop my computer from bouncing back up to the top when I scroll down. This happens mostly when in Safari online. I can't recall when it started to happen, or anychanges that I made to bring it on.
It usually happens when I have several windows open at once or if I leave the browser on one thing for a long time (paused on youtube, but if i play youtube non-stop it's usually not a problem).

You installed the "DownLite" trojan, perhaps under a different name. Remove it as follows.
Malware is constantly changing to get around the defenses against it. The instructions in this comment are valid as of now, as far as I know. They won't necessarily be valid in the future. Anyone finding this comment a few days or more after it was posted should look for more recent discussions or start a new one.
Back up all data.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:

Right-click or control-click the line and select
          Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item named "VSearch" selected. Drag the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password.

You may be wondering why you didn't get a warning from Gatekeeper about installing software from an unknown developer, as you should have. The reason is that the DownLite developer has a codesigning certificate issued by Apple, which causes Gatekeeper to give the installer a pass. This failure of oversight is inexcusable and has compromised both Gatekeeper and the Developer ID program. You can't rely on Gatekeeper alone to protect you from harmful software.

Firefox has recently started freezing and unfreezing, how do I fix this?

As noted above Firefox seems to be having trouble with freezing, I have reinstalled Firefox, Java, and Adobe Flash, all without any success. I am not having such trouble with IE running on the same computer, and going to the same sites. This has happened several times while I type this little bit of text. The text that I input finally shows up, but some mouse clicks don't get through, and I have to make them again.
Edit: I also have cleared the cache, recent history, and deleted all cookies trying to fix this issue.
New edit 12/22/2011: I have now uninstalled 8.0.1, and installed 9.0.1, with the same bad results. I really want Firefox working for me again.

The problem self corrected about a month after I posted that, and I forgot that I had made the post.
It may interest you to know that I only have addons of the plugin type. There are eleven of them, and six of those have had updates with the sort of timing that leaves me not knowing if any of them had an update around the start of the problem, or around the end of it. their most recent updates were at least 1 month after the problem ended, and I have no record of any updates before that time. Two of those six are Java plugins, two are shockwave plugins, even though I don't know exactly when they were updated, I do know that they were updated at lease once during the time I had the issue, and those updates didn't fix it. Leaving only a Google update, and Pando web plugin for suspects.
In my OP I likely should have mentioned that in the past I had had short periods with this problem as well, and it always had self corrected in just a few days. The problem wasn't as severe in the earlier cases ether. Next time it happens I will try your method and see if I can end the problem on the spot. The down side to that is that if it's not the Google or Pando plugins, it would have to be one of the ones that most everyone depends on for much of their enjoyment on the web.
Is there anything else you can think of that could be suspect? BTW, I maybe should mention that I don't allow any extra tool bars to install on my browser, It's part of how I like my web experience.

Pdfs and word docs started not displaying correctly in browser. How do I fix this?

Until about a week ago, when I would open a pdf or word document in Firefox, it would open in a new Window and I could view it without download. Now, when I open a pdf, it shows some lines, but no text. I can only view the document if I then download the document, which will display correctly. Today, I tried to open a Word document from Firefox. A new window opened and it told me how many pages there was, but all of the pages are blank.
Is there a way to fix this? I like not having to download the documents unless I want to save them.
I'm using Firefox 37.0.1 on a computer running Windows 7 Enterprise, Service pack 1.

Ok. My computer ran updates last night and today it works. So, I'm good for now. If this happens to anyone else, I'm not sure how it was fixed besides the fact that my computer ran updates and restarted.

The probable cause is having the same message identiity on both phones. This happens when you activate/reset a new phone. A prompt comes up telling you that you now will have acces to messages on this new phone and will include your other phone number and maybe icloud id.
To take a number off, please follow these steps:
Settings > Messages> Send & Receive> then uncheck the phone number or icloud id you want taken out.
