EAP-TLS, Certificates for the machine...prompt for the user?

I've got a wireless network made up of AP1200s and I'm testing EAP-TLS. I have the cert piece working but I would also like the users to be prompted for a user/pass upon association. Is that going to far?
If not; how do I set it up? I also want to make sure that they are not prompted each time they roam to a new AP if they were previously authenticated.

I think if you leave the username/password fields blank, the system will prompt you for them.
There might even be a checkbox for "Prompt for User Name" (gonna depend on the client software & nic).

Nic, for me the iTunes window looks like this, when I connect my iPad 3:
I select the iPad in the "devices" section of the Sidebar (use: "View > Show Sidebar" if the sidebar is hidden).
Click the "Apps" tab in the "Devices" pane.
Scroll all the way down in the Devices pane to "File Sharing" "Apps" section.
Then do I click "GarageBand" to select the documents in the right panel.
Which part is different for you? Perhaps you could post a screenshot?

How to change the machine name for the admin server?

Hi, I've incorrectly set the machine name for my admin server. I now need to change this, but it's not editable (WLS 10.3.3).
Is there a way to edit configuration files to get it changed?

Seems all I needed to do was edit config/config.xml (under my domain's path) and change the machine name manually (before shutting the admin server down).

How large should a disk for time machine be vs the hard disk

Can anyone tell me how large a disk for time machine be vs the size of the hard disk?

I usually say 2x or more but your milage may vary on that based on how much your hard drive is actually used, what sort of data (how large the files are) you typically handle and how far back you want your TM backup to go.

AnyConnect, EAP-TLS, Certificate Store Issue

Morning All,
I've got a customer that wants to deploy AnyConnect for their new EAP-TLS based WLAN. We can get the service working perfectly using the windows 7 supplicant. The problems start when using AnyConnect.
When we create a profile with certificate store set to all in the profile editor, we get an error along the lines of no valid certificate found. This seems a bit crazy considering the windows supplicant can both find and use it.
Any ideas?

Hi Salod,
I now believe it to be an AD permission issue with regard to the cert stores. I have lab'd this and have got both user and machine certs working through the anyconnect client.

How to install EAP-TLS certificate?

Our wireless network requires EAP-TLS certificate installation.
We use a MS 2003 server as a CA server.
I tried to brows to the issuing website (http://CAserver/certsrv) but when I get to the section where I need to choose the strength of the key, somehow the phone's browser is not showing the options...
So, I tried to issue a certificate from the issuing station and got a file called certnew.cer .
From what I read this is the right certificate type, so I copied the file to the phone and tried to open it...
But it only open it with the Notes application...
Any help????

The certificate needs to be in .der format. You probably have it in .cer (PEM) format right now.
You can convert it using openssl. Change the filenames appropriately:
openssl x509 -outform der -in MYCERT.pem -out MYCERT.der
Then send the .der file to the phone and open it. The phone should offer to install it as a certificate.

The search service is not able to connect to the machine that hosts the administration component. Verify that the administration component 'GUID′ in search application 'Search Service Application' is in a good state and try again.

Another post with a well-known title. Believe me, I know. Here's my setup;
- 1 Server 2012 WFE, SharePoint Server 2013, totally up-to-date, including the september 2014 hotfix
- 1 Server 2012 DB, SQL Server 2012
Installed SP 2013 using PowerShell, with the AutoSPinstaller. Worked like a charm. Got everything up and running, with some tweaking here and there to customize it to fit my situation. Now, I can't get the Search Service Application to work. Must have created,
deleted and recreated it at least 30 times. Used both PowerShell scripts, PowerShell line-by-line, Central Admin, heck, I even went so far as to use the configuration wizzard... No luck. I keep on getting the message that search cannot connect to the machine
that hosts the 'administration component'.
In order to avoid answers that suggest all the things I've already tried, here's a summary of the various scenarios I followed:
Tried both a dedicated application pool as well as the SharePoint Web Services Default
Timer job job-application-server-admin-service is running and not showing errors
IIS 8.0 is installed, so is .NET 4.5 (not the known perp of IIS 7.5 and .NET 4.0)
the get-SPEnterpriseSearchServiceInstance -local returns a healthy, online state
the SPEnterpriseSearchQueryAndSiteSettingsServiceInstance is also running
FireWall is disabled; registry has the BackConnectionHostNames modified with the necessary FQDNs
Accounts used to install and / or run the serviceapp all have sufficient rights - tried a dedicated managed account, SP_2013_SearchSvc, the SP admin account, and even the original Farm account; all to no avail, I keep on getting the error message.
Even tried stsadm to start the server search running - NOTHING WORKS!!!
As you might understand, this is driving me nuts. About to miss my second deadline, and no amount of IISresetting is making this go away. Been stuck on this issue for far too long, now (my searching is measured in days and weeks instead of hours, by now).
Whoever helps me solve this - you will have my eternal gratitude, and a nice bottle of Prosecco. Or whatever's your poison. You need to come get it, though. I´m situated in the Netherlands. Hey, you always meant to visit Amsterdam and see for yourself, right?

Thanks again - Alas, I've been there. Deleted Search a dozen times, at least, and tried installing it, initially using a PowerShell script (tried several scripts actually, from full-blown total Search Applications with extensive topologies to the most basic
of basics 'please just start without showing me errors'), PowerShell line-by-line to see where things went South, next tried installing through Central Admin (hoping that it was my own stupidity in overlooking things and hoping The System would get it right
for me), and eventually even tried using the config wizzard as a total and utter last resort - Nothing worked.
At first, I found out that removing a Service App needs a *little* bit more work than simply removing it through Central Admin, but by now I can truthfully state that if there's one thing I've become supergood at, it's removing Search Service Applications.Totally.
I will check out the article, though - I realized early on in my SharePoint experience that regardless of what you think you know, there's so much more to find out. I know, that's almost philosophical. That is, my friends, indeed the point I've reached...

After uninstalling the binaries, and reinstalling / joining back to the farm, everything seems happy expect search.
When we try and start the Search Service back, it takes us to the Search Application section, and shows this message;
The search service is not able to connect to the machine that hosts the administration component
How can I get search to work again, or get around this error?

For your issue, it can be caused by the search admin timer job was disabled.
Run below PS command to know the status:
Get-SPTimerJob job-application-server-admin-service | fl
If it returns “IsDisabled: True”, ran below PS command to enable the service:
Enable-SPTimerJob job-application-server-admin-service
Then run below PS command to stop and start the timer and IIS reset:
Net Stop timer
Net start timer
iisreset
Then wait 1-2 min and try browsing to the SSA again.

I am setting up a time machine backup to a external Hard drive. I want to backup by Mac book Pro running OSX 10.8.5. I would like to Partition the disk and use one partition for Time machine backups and the other for my Lightroom backups. How to do this?

I want to create a two partition disk. One partition for time machine, the other for Lightroom backup. Currently Time Machine is using the entire drive and it is doing the intial encryption and is about 29% complete after two days. I've decided that I want to turn encryption off and partition the disk. So I do I start over?

With the external drive attached, open Finder>Applications>Utilities>Disk Utility. Select the external drive from the list in the left side panel of the DU window. In the main window panel, click Partition in the buttons top center of that panel.
Select the number of partitions you want and adjust their sizes.
For the first partition, click to highlight the partition, then select the format, Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and then the partition table as GUID [both of those are the defaults]. Click Apply and it will ask to confirm and erase and format that partion...oh, give the partition a name, like Backup.
Then repeat those steps for the second partition..and remember to name it...something like Lightroom.
Close Disk Utilitty and you are ready to send TM to the one partition, and do your backup of Lightroom to the second partition.

EAP-TLS Authentication failure happening in ACS for Wireless End User Authentication

We have the Win 3.2 ACS setup in the production environment, We are migrating it with 4.2 Appliance version. We have succesfully migrated the database and other stuffs from 3.2 to 4.2. Same way we have exported the certificates from 3.2 to 4.2 and installed it.
We have the leap as well as eap-tls in the authentication part.
We were able to test successfully with the leap. But when it comes to eap-tls. In 4.2 version its throwing the error.

Hi,
Looks like the CA Cert is not installed on the ACS.

Also trust the CA certificate in the Edit trust list list.

Ok, looking to buy iMac, to use Time machie do you need the same size HDD that is in your iMac? ie Im looking at getting the 250Gb iMac, so do I need a 250Gb external HDD to use time machine?
I plan to also get a NAS drive so can time machine be used with this or do you need n external HDD attached direct to the iMac all the time to use time machine?

Not that I know of.
so if the iMac had to be re-installed could you then reconnect the Time machine HDD and restore everything?
You could insert the Leopard disk and instead of doing a new install you could restore directly from the Time Machine Back Up. This depends on if you do a full back up or just parts of your system. Either way it is easy to recover your system using Time Machine.
Also if the external HDD is used for time machine is that all it can be used for? or can you also use it on other computers both Mac and PC?
It is best if you use Time Machine on a partition by itself. Then the other partition can be used for normal stuff.
