Ear-Bud Port Problem

My ear-bud port stopped working.  Any thoughts or suggestions?

Try different headset to see if it is the port or the earbuds.
Try earbuds on different machine.
See if there is debris in the port. Try inserting and removing
the buds a few times to see if that clears the problem.
If it is the port, contact Apple or visit nearest Apple store
if still under warranty.

  • EAR BUD Headphone Problems .. the how to fix them thread!

    Hi Guys,
Said I would start off this thread for all those with EAR BUD Headphone problems. Specifically:
    - Those with ONE SIDE quieter than the other
    - Those with ONE or BOTH sides completely gone.
This would apply to those who own Creative players with Ear Bub Phones supplied or the like.
I think I have a solution to those with "ONE SIDE quieter than the other". If you pull off the rubber gels from the phones you will see a MESH. You might notice an ear wax buildup on the outside of this mesh. Dont bother cleaning it yet. Now you may have to do something you wont like - Use a Jewelers Screwdriver OR some tool equally thin to POP OUT the mesh. Now turn the mesh around. You should now see the problem - HUGE WAX BUILDUP on the under side. NOW clean both sides if you wish, but you might be at a hiding for nothing - I challenge you to get the mesh back in. Not to worry - the phones and sound should now be back as it was in day one. Stick the GELS back on without the mesh. Also behind that mesh maybe a piece of foam. Up to you what you want to do with this ...
It seems this WAX buildup issue on the underside of the mesh in EAR BUDS is a common problem across all makes. I have a Creative, Seinheiser and Philips set - all with the same issue. I did the above on all - now all are back working fine.
Of course you may have to be on WAX lookout more frequently if you cannot get the MESH back in, which maybe the case most of the time. It would seem the very device - the mesh - that protects the buds from WAX buildup is causing a problem itself ..
WITH respect to issues with NO SOUND on either or both sides, this maybe a cracked wire, usually up around the bud end. One thing I have not figured out in most Ear Buds is how to open the casing - over to somebody else for this,
Hope this is helpful to others,
Cheers, Aidan ( Cork, Ireland )

That's a bit trickier. I think I'd select the text from the beginning of the frame wher the continuation starts and cut to the clipboard, then paste at the end of the text in the frame from where it should continue. That frame should now show an overset, and you should have a bunch of empty linked frames where the text was previously located.
Turn on show text threads and find the first out port in front of the now empty frame and click it, then click inside the same frame (or double click the outport should work too). This will break the thread at that frame, but leave the empties threaded together so you can pick up the overset and flow it back in from the other page.

If you phone is still under warranty, you can take it in to the Genius Bar and have them check it. They will decide if it is covered by warranty or not.

  • Problem with ear bud input.

I assume it's a problem with my ear phone input, because i just bought a new pair of earbuds, and its only playing out of one ear bud. Do i need to send it in to get it fixed or what?

If the earbuds work correctly on another device then you have a broken headphone jack and need to send it in for service or take it to the nearest Apple Store.

  • Problem use phone functions w/ear buds

Can't use iphone3GS to either receive or talk when using ear buds. No problem with ear buds and ipod function. Problem is not the ear buds since they work perfectly in another person's iphone. Any ideas as to the problem?
    Thanks,

I would take it to an Apple Store genius bar ,if it is fresh out of the box

  • My ear bud aux piece is stuck in my headphone port. Is there a way I can turn all my volume on speaker mode?

My ear bud aux piece is stuck in my headphone port. Is there a way I can turn all my volume on speaker mode?

As long as there is material stuck in the port, the external volume will be disabled. I suggest you take it to an apple retail store or call 1-800-APL-CARE for service

  • For some reason , when i restore my iphone 4s to factory settings my headphones work when listening to music or youtube videos but when i backup my information onto it , it only comes out of one ear bud and i just got a new one from the apple store.

for some reason , when i restore my iphone 4s to factory settings my headphones work when listening to music or youtube videos but when i backup my information onto it , it only comes out of one ear bud and i just got a new one from the apple store. my old iphone 4s audio jack was messed up but i just got a new one with my warranty , can anyone help me please.

It doesn't matter what it is in your backup that's causing the problem because you can not selectively restore things from your backup. It's all or nothing.
Set you phone up as a new device and start over.

  • IPod Shuffle 2nd Gen -- Great design, awful ear buds.

Bought my first iPod. Decided to get the new 2nd gen Shuffle because of the size. 1GB capacity is fine for going out for a run or doing some other short-term activity.
There was great thought in the unit's design -- easy to operate on the street without having looking at the unit. But there seems to have been little thought about the ear buds.
First, the sound quality is not what it should be. Quite mediocre. Doesn't speak well for Apple, as substance doesn't follow form here. The ultimate purpose for this unit is listening to music, and using the ear buds provided is not an ultimate experience. Why Apple doesn't offer better quality buds is hard to understand, since they are 50% of the product. If I had the opportunity to listen to the device first, I probably would not have bought it.
Second, there is no clip to hold the upper end of the ear buds to your shirt. Try taking the buds off to talk to someone or do some other activity that requires unobstructed ears. There's no place for the buds to go or hang from. Stuffing them into your pocket or slinging them over your shoulder is hardly an elegant solution. Don't think anyone from Apple actually tried to use these things on the street. A small clip to hold them to your shirt would have been a sufficient solution. Apple could have easily put a small clip on the slider that keeps the wires untangled.
Looking through the forums, it seems that most iPod customers are resigned to buying third party ear buds to get an acceptable acoustic experience. And Apple seems content with this. Too bad.

  • My ear buds that I bought a few months ago shocked me and no longer work is there warranty on these?

I had my headphones in my 5s when I was running and all the sudden my ears got shocked. I know it was from ESD. Only problem is my headphones no longer work. I just recently bought them like 2 months ago. Shouldnt there be a ground in these headphones? Are my ear buds just bad or did I just get the short end of the stick again?

Most devices are covered by warranty in most Countries
If you headphones are Apple they certainly have a 12 month warranty and if not Apple check the paperwork that came in the box

  • Using Ear Buds with Laptop

I have a Toshiba Satellite, just purchased a little over a month ago.  Today I purchased some JVC Ear Buds so that I could listen to music and/or watch a DVD while I'm traveling this year.  I plugged the ear buds in but sound is coming from the laptop speakers, not the ear buds.  I went to Control Panel and the headphones are not showing up in the sound devices where the speaker is located.  Can somebody please help me make these ear buds work?  Thank you.

Could you let us know what fixed your problem? That way it can be indexed by the boards and someone with your problem can easily find your solution and it might save them a post or two

  • Skype not recognizing Ear buds plugged in?

    Hi there..!
I've used Skype for years now, and havn't had a problem like this before (Or at least i can't remember having one such as this). I plug in my Ibuds or whatever Apple calls them, and skype dosen't respond, or notice they're plugged in. I can hear through them (Both skype sounds, music, youtube, ect.), but they seem to be cancling my mic. Now, as anybody with them knows, they themselves (the earbuds) do not have a mic. I'm trying to use the built-in-mic, but it's not working (It works if i unplug the earbuds, though).
When i go to change the audio settings (Both in-skype, and in my computer settings), it dosen't show anything other than the built-in mic & speakers (I find it odd, because the sound is comeing through my earbuds). I have tried to go through it from both in-call options, and out of call, through my control panle, and through useing %Run%.
I have Windows 8, have an Intel b960 processor, Gateway brand laptop. I have a thing to plug in headphones and one for a mic, or i can also use one with a USB plug-in. I'm only plugging the ear-buds into the headphone spot, the others are empty.
Untill late lastnight, i was useing a headset that used a USB and a headphone plug-in.
I'm not sure what to add onto this, other than i have been looking for an awnser for the past hour, and havn't found one, but it's probably something pretty eazy to fix and i just don't know how.

Your mic should not be cancelling when  you plug in ear/head phones into a standard jack.  usually that only happens when you plug in something to a mic jack or a combined mic/headphone jack.  In any case the control is generally a feature of the sound drivers and not Skype itself.  If your computer is using the IDT chipset you will probably have fiddle with the settings as most of their options use reverse logic.  If it uses the Realtek chipset you can usually seperate/split the inputs to combat issues with it automatically toggling your onboard mic on/off.  On my machine that setting is under "Device advanced settings" in the "Realtek HD Audio Manager" found in "Control Panel".

  • Ear buds not working. Not due to broken headphones, so it must be the connector in the iPod that is not working.

On my iPod Classic, the right ear bud does not work and the left one spots off and on. The music works fine on a dock, and I know it is not due to broken headphones (a problem I've encountered many times), because they work fine on other iPods, other headphones have the same problem on this iPod, so it must be the connector in the iPod that is not working. Can I fix this myself, do I need to take it in to get it fixed, or do I need a new iPod?

Yes, if you got very steady hands, and you must have the correct tools to open the Ipod. (which is the most difficult part).
For the parts, you can buy off ebay, the audio jack and cable, less than $20 I think.
Those plastic opening tools that they are selling only works for cases that has been opened before, they dont worked for sealed virgin  iPod cases.
The screws are quite tiny, so be careful, it might jump out off the window or into the some hole, so better lay white sheets of paper on the floor.
Here is a 4 minute video on how to do it.

  • What are the best ear-bud headphones under $50?

I’m going to Europe for about a year and (of course) taking my iPod with me. The problem is, Apple’s ear-buds that come with the iPod get pretty uncomfortable after about an hour. I’m looking for a pair of ear-buds headphones that are good quality, provide good sound, are comfortable, but aren’t too expensive.
The main two that I have been looking at are the Koss "Plug" portable headphones and the Sony Fontopia headphones. Does anyone have any other suggestions or are one of these good?

In my humble opinion... Sony MDR-EX51LP Studio Monitor Headphones (Blue) $39.95 Quantity: 1.
I use them and enjoy them for the price!
... of course, for over the price... Bose TriPort Headphones - Silver or any Sennheiser (HD497, HD590, etc.) pair will work fantastically.
Oh, yeah, the PX100, PX200, PMX60 by Sennheiser are good portables ones, too... highly recommended!

  • In-ear buds vs normal buds?

Has anyone ever seen/bought the Apple radio remote with in-ear buds instead of the normal buds? There are photos of in-ear buds on the remote floating around the web, but I've only ever seen them in stores with the normal buds. Doing a Google image search for the various versions (A, B, C) yields no consistent results.

Sorry, I can't be of much help with your problem, but I couldn't resist---- you say YOU are "footing the bill" each time for your wife's earbuds--- I have only one question. Does your wife contribute nothing to your relationship? Earn no money? or clean your house? or take care of your children? Or cook your meals? Do your laundry? If so, how dare you say that she deserves less than you do? Ok, meant no harm, your wording just left me with a bad taste.

  • Only 1 Ear Bud Will Work

I can only get one ear bud to play. I tried several different pairs (all of which work fine on my son's Nano) and still I'm stuck with mono. Any ideas? Thanks!

I have a similar problem. I have found two solutions (instead of paying ridiculous repair prices).
    1. Do not push headphone jack in all the way. Unfortunately, this means that the jack may fall depending on your location/activity while listening.
    2. I am using the smallest binder clip I could find, and attaching it at the bottom of the nano near the headphone jack. If I find the right spot, both headphones will work. The problem with this solution is that if you're strapping the Nano to your arm, you have this silly little binder clip attached as well. Kind of a pain.
    Hope this helps folks!
