Ear Buds Going Bad

I recently had my left channel ear bud go bad on my 2.5 month old iPod. I called Apple and they told me to just use the AppleCare self-service link here.

They will send you a new pair and you just throw your old ones away. No need to send them back.

Thanks for the advice. I tried them on another phone and they worked fine and I blew out the input jack with canned air. Still nothing
So, I am sure the issue is with the phone itself somehow. Could it be possible that because it is jailbroken? Or something else?

My ear buds that I bought a few months ago shocked me and no longer work is there warranty on these?

I had my headphones in my 5s when I was running and all the sudden my ears got shocked. I know it was from ESD. Only problem is my headphones no longer work. Most devices are covered by warranty in most Countries
If you headphones are Apple they certainly have a 12 month warranty and if not Apple check the paperwork that came in the box

Unless, your source is splitting intruments and vocals between the 2 stero channels and there's something wrong with your ear buds such that you're only getting the intrumental channel, I don't see how what you describe is even possible.
Have you tried other ear buds?
What is the exact audio source? Internet radio?

IPod Shuffle 2nd Gen -- Great design, awful ear buds.

Bought my first iPod. Decided to get the new 2nd gen Shuffle because of the size. 1GB capacity is fine for going out for a run or doing some other short-term activity.
There was great thought in the unit's design -- easy to operate on the street without having looking at the unit. But there seems to have been little thought about the ear buds.
First, the sound quality is not what it should be. Quite mediocre. Doesn't speak well for Apple, as substance doesn't follow form here. The ultimate purpose for this unit is listening to music, and using the ear buds provided is not an ultimate experience. Why Apple doesn't offer better quality buds is hard to understand, since they are 50% of the product. If I had the opportunity to listen to the device first, I probably would not have bought it.
Second, there is no clip to hold the upper end of the ear buds to your shirt. Try taking the buds off to talk to someone or do some other activity that requires unobstructed ears. There's no place for the buds to go or hang from. Stuffing them into your pocket or slinging them over your shoulder is hardly an elegant solution. Don't think anyone from Apple actually tried to use these things on the street. A small clip to hold them to your shirt would have been a sufficient solution. Apple could have easily put a small clip on the slider that keeps the wires untangled.
Looking through the forums, it seems that most iPod customers are resigned to buying third party ear buds to get an acceptable acoustic experience. And Apple seems content with this. Too bad.

I have a 5th generation 8GB iPod nano. I bout it off of eBay in May of 2010 and it has worked great until now (Apr 2011). The 5th gen plays music through the headphone jack even when no ear buds are plugged in. I was using it one day and it just stopped. I tried resetting it manually and automatically and I tried reinstalling iTunes. Nothing has worked. Now it won't even play sound though the ear buds (or the aux hook up in my car), only when it is docked to my iHome. Does anyone have any suggestions? I dont want to replace the iPod or any parts inside if at all possible. ANY SUGGESTIONS ARE WELCOMED! THANKS!

Headphone jacks are only good for so many in and out usages. Usually its the headphone jack itsefl that goes bad first but sometimes it is the internal part. If you are lucky you can clean out the inside and get it to work.
These devices are not made to last for someone who actually has those headphones around there neck and acually uses there listening devices through out the day plugging it in and out. This is not in any way an Apple thing, it is a problem with many devices. The male ends tend to get dirty hanging around then scratch the female end when used. In fact, using higher end headphones you can really notice even the smallest particles of dust on the male end of plug when used, that is the small popping you might notice when the cord moves.
Hopefully its a problem on the male side of things.
I would recommend a person that wants to use headphones alot to keep a small 2 inch extension plugged into there device that can be replaced when it goes bad inplace of wearing out the original plug.
Again, this is not an Apple problem alone.

What are the best ear-bud headphones under $50?

Im going to Europe for about a year and (of course) taking my iPod with me. The problem is, Apples ear-buds that come with the iPod get pretty uncomfortable after about an hour. Im looking for a pair of ear-buds headphones that are good quality, provide good sound, are comfortable, but arent too expensive.
The main two that I have been looking at are the Koss "Plug" portable headphones and the Sony Fontopia headphones. Does anyone have any other suggestions or are one of these good?

... of course, for over the price... Bose TriPort Headphones - Silver or any Sennheiser (HD497, HD590, etc.) pair will work fantastically.
Oh, yeah, the PX100, PX200, PMX60 by Sennheiser are good portables ones, too... highly recommended!

In-ear buds vs normal buds?

Has anyone ever seen/bought the Apple radio remote with in-ear buds instead of the normal buds? There are photos of in-ear buds on the remote floating around the web, but I've only ever seen them in stores with the normal buds. Doing a Google image search for the various versions (A, B, C) yields no consistent results.

Why can caller hear me when i use and ear bud

Why can't caller hear me when I use an ear bud. I am using the same ear bud that I used with the Cosmos touch. The Cosmos 3 that I just received worked for awhile with the ear bud but not it's now. Any suggestions? I'm seriously thinking about going back to my Cosmos Touch, I'm not like this 3. The only thing I like about it is the keyboard.

We definitely want you to enjoy the new phone as well and it's imperative to get the earbuds working with the phone. Have you tried a different set of earbuds? It it one ear bud specifically? Other than this, do all other sound options work? Is there any damage to the phone?

Ear buds won't plug in properly

I recently bought an ipod touch 4g, this is my first ipod and it's pretty cool but the earbuds will not stay in the device. By this I mean when i plug the earbuds in, it doesn't feel like they are going in the device and they fall out with the slightest movement or touch, they will work but they fall out very very easily, far more easily than I believe they should. This is a dramatic problem because, for example, I can't walk around with the ipod in my pocket because the motion of my leg will disconnect the ear buds. I have tried other headsets/earbuds but the same thing happens so I am assuming it is a problem with the device. Is this just a problem that I am experiencing or is it a problem with the entire model?

I just bought an Ipod Touch 4g two days ago, and it's also my first ipod. I'm having exactly the same problem, the earbuds work but will not stay in the device, it doesn't feel like it letting me insert the plug in enough to grab it. They fall out with the slightest disturbance, which means I can't used them while holding it, walking around, or riding my bike. I'm not sure if this is defective or what, but the headphones work and stick fine in my Macbook Pro and my MD player.
Someone please help, or do I need to just send this back?

Ear Bud Mic problem?

Ok I thought a week ago I had bad ear buds since the Mic/remote rutton on the right ear cord doesnt work. I used my apple care to get them replaced and these new ones out of the box of are doing the same thing.
Both Ear Buds sound great but for some reason that button doesnt work. I have tried them on my buddies Iphone and they work great. I tried his on mine and nothing. Am I missing a setting or something?
Any suggestions?

If you phone is still under warranty, you can take it in to the Genius Bar and have them check it. They will decide if it is covered by warranty or not.

In Ear buds for Gym use

Hey!
My wife is currently lamenting the passing of her FOURTH pair of 'Sennheiser cx300's in ear buds' in under 2 years!
My personal experience of Sennheiser has been excellent to say the least.I had a pair of CX300's for over 2 years before they failed,and presently am very satisfied with my CX500's.They are pretty robust and reliable,as were my 300's.
It mustn't be coincidence that my wife regularly uses hers at the Gym.Which leads me to suspect that perspiration(didn't wanna type sweat.....doesn't look nice!) is compromising the units.
With that in mind,can anyone who also worships their temple, recommend a hardy(waterproof?) set of buds.Might also mention I've been footing the bill each time they go!!
Don't want to spend too much hahaha they aint for me!

Why wont my ipod touch play any sound from the left side of me ear buds/headse?

- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost

Memory going bad???

My K7T266 Pro2-RU system has been running stably since I built it last November. However, yesterday I started getting frequent system lock-ups, and I couldn't find anything I had done that would have caused it. I found that I could reproduce the problem when booting a Win98 floppy and running the MEMTEST program, which pretty well ruled out anything in WinXP. Then I discovered that changing the FSB from 133 down to 100 "cures" (groan) the problem (I'm running an XP1500+ and one stick of PC2100 DDR RAM). It's very repeatable - MEMTEST locks up at 133, works fine at 100. My question is this - could this be the memory module going bad, or is some other degradation more likely??? [All components are high quality, no recent H/W changes.]

Looks like the problem is NOT with the memory - I picked up another stick (Micron vs. Crucial) and see the same situation. Also tried BIOS 3.4 and 3.6. System seems to work fine at 100 FSB (now with 512MB!), but it's irritating!!

It doesn't matter what it is in your backup that's causing the problem because you can not selectively restore things from your backup. It's all or nothing.
Set you phone up as a new device and start over.
