Earbud problem

I have a problem with my refurbished fifth generation video iPod. When I plug my earphones in I can only get sound out of one earbud. I tried another pair of earphones but I had the same problem. Both pairs of earphones work fine with my PSP. I tried resetting the iPod multiple times. Is there something I can do, or is this just a hardware malfunction?

Sounds like a hardware problem. Try connecting to a set of amplified computer speakers. Other than that, I'd return right away.

  • 30 gb video ipod earbud problem...urgent!!

    hello...
my bro got me a 5g video from japan few weeks back...
i was checking out its "volume limit" feature...and pumped it to the very maximum...guess what...the inner membrane of the left earbud is now "loose" or something and crackles badly even at normal volume levels...
the point is : since apple has kept this volume limit feature then its earbuds must support the max volume that can be set...right??? so basically, its not that i screwed up the earphones and hence cant avail the warranty...right?
the question : can i avail of the warranty benefits only from japan?? if i can do it from india, do i have to be physically present at an apple outlet?? can't i tell apple about this problem online and get a replacement by courier or something???
    kindly help....

  • Wired Headset or Wired Earbud problems

I have had my Blackberry 8330 since April of this year (2009)  Overall, happy with it! I noticed that I my wired headset/earbuds (that came in the box with my Curve) would sometimes crackle and stop working.  It would literally seem as though it is switching from my wired set to its regular mode (phone earpiece) on its own. I was amazed that when I used the wired earbuds while on the phone, how clear it sounds... however, it still makes that popping noise and is VERY intermittent.  One day while I was driving, it was going in and out so much, I had to pull them out and just put the phone next to my head. (ANNOYING)  So far, my carrier is not very helpful with all of this. They want to hold my phone hostage for two hours and TRY to fix it!
Another observation.. when I have these wired headset/earbuds plugged in, and it starts popping... if I have the phone on one ear, and the earbud in another... I can hear it switching, on its own from earbud to phone  - back and forth intermittently.  It does the same thing, if I'm listening to music on the phone as well!
If anyone could just check their phone and try to use the wired earbuds/headset that comes with your Curve, I'd appreciate it.  There may be a REAL problem here that no one has found and needs to be fixed.  If you HAVE this problem, please help by reporting it and replying to this thread.
    Thanks

I am having the same problem.  Also, when using the headset that comes with the phone, others have complained that it sounds like I am talking from the wrong end of a megaphone.  I am trying to find a headset that works on these phones.  Is anyone using a headset (pref wired) that has great clarity?  I am trying to solve the same issue.  Maybe with tow of us, we can get some solutions!  Andy

  • Nano & Earbud Problems. Advice Needed!!!! PLEASE HELP!!! MAJOR PROBLEMS!

Okay, one day I was walking home with one headphone in one ear and the other in my friends, and then I get a shock. It really hurt, and my ears started to burn. Thats just the beginning. I call the Apple Help Line and they tell me they will send me a new set. THEN I get an email saying they WONT send me a pair because this JUST happens and it's because it was rubbing against nylon.
One thing though; I DONT WEAR NYLON [it makes me get a rash/hives]. Okay, so then I thought I'll just use the left heaphone [didnt shock me] So I only use this one. And then I remember he says it 'just happens' So I started to use the right headphone. I heard this click click thing and it's my headphone. It then shocks me again.
I thought it was a while since I used my right headphone and it might've stopped [today]. And so I used it, it shocked 3 times in a row. Now my ear still burns. What do I do?!
I don't want to use the right earbud, but I don't hear my songs properly without it and I have to turn up my volume with just my left earbud in and everyone know's what I'm listening to then because that's how high it is.
Any advice? This really bugs me.

Im still confused, the guy on the phone said I DONT have to return the headphones but on the page it says
Important: You must return your defective part to Apple. When you receive your replacement part, please check your box or envelope for return shipping
instructions. If you do not return the defective part,
we will charge a non-return penalty to your credit card.
_ I agree to pay CAD 23.00 if I do not return my defective part to Apple within 10 business days.
And why would I have to put credit card information if it's 0.00? I dont even have a credit card.

  • Earbuds problem

Just received a replacement Classic iPod. But the earbuds don't work if plugged directly into my MacBook Pro. Is this typical? Is there a fix?

    Hey,
It would not be covered under the iPhones warranty. This article: http://www.apple.com/support/iphone/service/faq/#warranty4 provides more information about accidental damage.
You can purchase the standard Apple Stereo Headset or others like these on the Apple online store.

  • Nano Earbud Problem

I understand and have had experience with earbuds/headphones shorting out and getting static in one earbud but I just got the nano like 3 weeks ago and I refuse to play rock music on it so it doesn't blow out the speakers and yet the brand new earbuds are staticky in the left earbud. Its the buds because they are the same on my other iPod, but could the iPod nano be doing it? I've played at 50 or below volume. Can iPods blow out speakers as a defect or something? Does it make it too hot and then it doesn't work? I just want to know before I put my other iPod earbuds in it incase those do the same thing. The static is annoying.

  • Earbuds Sound Like You're in a Tunnel?

I have several employees who bought iphones and the earbuds are unusable especially for important phone calls. You can hear the other person alright but they say you sound like you're in a windy tunnel or on a motor cycle when you're in a silent room!
Does anybody else have this issue?
Is this enough for an earbud replacement or are they all bad?
Normal calls are average, speakerphone calls are poor and earbud calls are horrible.

Yes, I had this exact issue. Earbuds were UNUSABLE for calls - everyone says that you are in a "windy tunnel" like you said, and they can not hear anything.
I took the phone in and was given new earbuds -- Problem fixed. Still not the best sounding conversation according to others I am talking too, but definitely usable, and people can actually hear me.
    Hope this helps.

  • Sound problems with Yosemite when switching from internal speakers to earbuds

After upgrading to Yosemite on my Macbook Pro, when I switch from using the internal speakers for sound and plug in my (Apple) earbuds, the sound stops working.  The sound also stops when I do the reverse and unplug my earbuds, nothing comes out of the internal speakers.  The only way to restore sound is to go into System Preferences, Sound, and select the output device (internal speakers, earphones, etc..).  Anyone else experiencing this problem after installing Yosemite, or know of a fix?

    I have the same problem..
there is something else happened twice with me, I plugged my macbook with a HDMI cable to the TV, and everything was ok, until I closed the macbook (sleep mode), when I opened the mac again,, the sound has gone! No sound from TV or macbook,, the only solution is to "RESTART"

  • Problem with earbuds

I have an I pod shuffle, and there is a problem with my earbuds. The button that controls the volume and changing the song. It doesn't work too well, in that i have to hold the ipod in a specific position and turn the plug for the buds in a highly specific manner in order for it to work. Has this ever happened to anyone, and if so, what did you do to remedy the situation. also, what could this problem indicate?

I also use the headphones more often than not. It is unclear if I lose reception and music starts, or if the phone drops the call to play my music, but either way I see no reason for an app that I do not even use to start up out of the blue. When I listen to music it is though sonza and I make sure to close it when I am finished. Yet when I am on the phone random music that I assume is on my itunes through the cloud starts playing in my ear buds.
Please have been having this problem from what I can tell since 2007, but there seems to be no posted solution! Apple Support please post a solution to this.

Music stops playing when the screen goes dark; the earbud jack is flush with the iPod. The Jack is hard to push in. what is the problem? How do I Fix it?

And you are positive the white part of the headset is flush with the body of the Nano?
Have you tried another set of headphones to see if the problem persisted? If so, it's likely that the headphone jack needs replacing.

ATA bus error means that data corruption occurred during transmission over ATA bus (SATA or PATA). This type of errors can be indicated by
ICRC or ABRT error as described in the section called “ATA/ATAPI device error (non-NCQ / non-CHECK CONDITION)”.
Controller-specific error completion with error information indicating transmission error.
On some controllers, command timeout. In this case, there may be a mechanism to determine that the timeout is due to transmission error.
Unknown/random errors, timeouts and all sorts of weirdities.
As described above, transmission errors can cause wide variety of symptoms ranging from device ICRC error to random device lockup, and, for many cases, there is no way to tell if an error condition is due to transmission error or not; therefore, it's necessary to employ some kind of heuristic when dealing with errors and timeouts. For example, encountering repetitive ABRT errors for known supported command is likely to indicate ATA bus error.
Once it's determined that ATA bus errors have possibly occurred, lowering ATA bus transmission speed is one of actions which may alleviate the problem.
I'd also add; make sure you have good backups when ATA errors are frequent

  • Sound input problem with Skype earbud

Just trying out Skype, and using a wired earbud I got free. The earbud is Skype branded, and has 2 minijacks - one is headphone and one is microphone.
When it's plugged in, if I go into Sound preferences there is no input if I choose Line In (rather than built in microphone). I have made sure the input level is turned up.
Any ideas? I will check if the earbud works with any other devices, as I suspect they're quite cheaply produced!
Update: just checked another headset that's the same and it doesn't work either. Neither work with our iMac. It's interesting that they seem to be incompatible.

Did you get this problem resolved?
I am having the same problem: unable to input sound....

  • Earbud remote acts chaotic; new earbuds do the same thing; earbud or iphone problem?

I have had problems with the earbuds I was using. They sounded as if they were going bad and also started acting weird. If I pause something I am listening to (using the earbud remote) and then try to get it to play again, it will play for a fraction of a second then pause again. I will press play on the earbud remote again and it will do the same. If I keep trying this it will swap from whatever I am listening to and begin to play something else. I replaced the earbuds with a brand new pair but still have the same problem. Any Ideas?

  • I am having problems with an older ipod running 1.1.2 firmware trying to use earbuds with volume controls made for ipod. any suggestions?

I am problems with an older Ipod classic running 1.1.2pc using earbuds with Ipod inline remote. The earbuds work fine with my new Ipod but not the older one. Any suggestions?

    1) This is because of software version 1.1. See this
thread for some options as to how to go back to 1.0,
    which will correct the problem...
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=3754
    59&tstart=0
    2) This tends to happen after videos. Give the iPod a
minute or two to readjust. It should now be more
    accurate.
    3) This?
iPod shows a folder icon with exclamation
    point
    4) Restore the iPod
    5) Try these...
iPod Only Shows An Apple Logo and Will Not Start
    Up
iPod Only Shows An Apple Logo
I think 3,4, and 5 are related. Try the options I
    posted for each one.
    btabz
I just noticed that one of the restore methods you posted was to put it into Disk Mode First rather than just use the resstore straight off, I Have tried that and seems to have solved the problem, If it has thank you. previously I have only tried just restoring it skipping this extra step. Hope my iPod stays healthy, if it doesnt its a warrenty job me thinks any way thanks again

  • Apple earbud moisture problems.  Recommendations, anybody?

Okay. I think we all know now that those great earbuds--with the combination mic and controller--that come with the iphone have a serious problem with moisture and are easily ruined as a result. I've seen TONS of complaints about them being killed by a little sweat, and have been through three pairs myself already.
But when they're working, they're just EXCELLENT. What I want to know is, does anyone out there know of anything comparable which does not have the same problem? I really want your recommendations people!

You have really worn them while working out at the gym and never had a problem? Do you sweat at all? I've had this problem with probably 4 or 5 pairs of headphones. And while one pair isn't particularly expensive that adds up to some serious scratch.
I've seen this posted quite a few times, but nobody seems to have an answer.
The problem doesn't seem to be with earbuds themselves per se. It seems to be if a drop of sweat rolls down the cable into the switch.
Sadly the only solution I came up with was to get a pair of sport headphones (without a switch) and a controls adapter. It means you lose having voice over and the microphone, but at least you can control volume, skip songs, etc. I did that about a month ago and haven't had a problem since. And I go to the gym a lot.
Sorry I can't give you anymore than that, but at least you know you aren't alone.
