Earlier versions of iBook Author

No, sorry. Unsupported below 10.7.4
Don't forget that you also need iTunes Producer if you want to use the store.

  • Need earlier version of ibooks

    Hi:
Have not upgraded to 4.0 on the iTouch because of possible problems.
    ibooks 1.1.1 needs 4.0
Is there an earlier version of ibooks available for download?
    Thanks,
    RM

I maybe wrong, but I don't think there is. iBooks was only released in January 2010 and (from memory) I'm fairly certain iBooks always needed 4.0 or later.
More to the point though, what "possible problems" are you referring to? There are plenty of people who have downloaded 4.0 and now iOS4.1 without any problems at all. I'm one of them. Don't let "horror stories" in this forum put you off, no one posts a new topic with the title "I've had no problems". (That would probably be identified as the world's most boring post if it existed!)

  • Can I download an older version of iBooks Author for OSX 10.7 (Lion)?

I had to recently format my mac (2009 Mac Pro) but because of the hardware I can't upgrade to the latest OSX and am stuck with 10.7. Is there a way / link to download a version of iBooks Author that will be compatible with 10.7?

Well, when I pay several hundred dollars for something, I expect to be able to use it for more than a couple years.
Your iPod stopped working, did it?
and no, my 2nd gen iPod does NOT do anything even close to what it did when I bought it.
I don't believe that for an instant. List one thing that your iPod was advertised or otherwise promised by Apple to do when you bought it that it doesn't do now. And I don't mean apps that you failed to download when they were issued in a version that would run on iOS 4.2.1 and that now require a newer version of iOS.
In any case, if you're that unhappy, go buy an Android device, then. But I suggest you price them out first. You may find that they're really not cheaper, particularly if you want to keep up with anything like current Android releases. I doubt anyone here really cares if you find some other product you think suits you better.

  • Is Apple going to make version of iBooks Author fo iPad?

Did they have such plans for the nearest future?

Nobody here can tell you what Apple's plans are, and they never provide such info in advance.  You can tell them what you want via

  • New version of iBooks Author

Does anybody know what bugs the new version fixed?

    Nope, not yet.
The info for the new download is a bit flippant, I think.
Apple prompts developers to never just say 'improved and bug fixes' when updating their apps, but it seems like this update was not worth the time of whomever is in charge of the product.
On top of that, while they seem to encourage feedback from iBA users this looks like that is just lip service. Hate to say it, but this makes it look like iBA might not be important enough going forward. Pages is getting all the attention...

  • IBooks Author versions eating disk space

    Hello
running iBooks Author Version 2.2 on Yosemite 10.10.3
It seems that the automatic saving does not save only the changes to the project, but the whole project every time.
On a big project that consumes GBs of disk space.
In earlier versions of iBooks Author you were able to delete non used versions from within the App:
Why is iBooks Author using up my scratch disk space?
I found out where the versions are saved (in a hidden folder where you have no privilegies).
I gave myself the privilegies needed and deleted 1 of the earlier versions...
    Not a good idea...
If i go to File -> Revert (maybe bad translation from German) the App hangs an blocks the whole system...
Has anybody found a solution to recover disk space used by iBooks Author versioning?

Your computer but....are  you working on a network at the school or in your home with  your own  net connection?
Networks have exclusions set  by the IT department to prevent misuse.
A book exported to PDF , should  show teh  book content , albeit, slighty different to what your see in iBA or iBooks when previewed.  Again, it  if you are on a network, there may be issues.
Run a text with a default template saved from iBA and see what the result  is.

  • Possible to update from old iBooks Author file using new version?

Will the just-released new version of iBooks Author allow me to update an existing book which was created with a previous version of the software?
I created a book in landscape mode, but placed all of the images in portrait orientation. Now that there are portrait-only templates, I want to redo the book. Will I be able to replace my book on iBooks without having to relist it?
The new iBooks Author description states the following: "And to keep your work current, add updates by publishing new versions of your original title. iBooks will automatically notify your readers that there’s a new version of your book ready to download."

    nanobear:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Do you still have the original library on our old Mac? If so, connect the two Macs together so you can manually copy the iPhoto Library folder from the old Mac into the Pictures folder of the new iMac. download and run BatChmod on the iPhoto Library folder with the settings shown here, putting your administrator login name in the owner section and Staff in the group section. You can either type in the path to the folder or just drag the folder into that field.
Now launch iPhoto and it should inform you that the library will need to be upgraded. Select OK and the library will be converted to the latest version.
What version of iPhoto were you running on the old Mac?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Difference between ibook author and ipad version

    Hi there
Hoping someone can shed light on an issue I am having as I have no idea why it is happening.
I am writing an ibook for our school. However, in some instances when the book is downloaded on to an ipad some of the text looks different from the version in ibook author (either words missing or letters have changed so it does not make sense anymore). Sometimes this is resolved simply by cutting the text and pasting back in, but I have no idea why this is happening so I can avoid it.
Does anyone have any idea? The book is being downloaded on ipads which may be set to different languages (everything from French to Chinese!), I am not sure if that is an issue?
    Any help appreciated.
    Regards
    Lisa

The language settings may be causeing  problems, the only way to check is to have them all set to the same langauge while you check if the problems still shows.
Missing letters or words  can happen by overlaping text / boxes / images / shapes or any  object with a wrap around.
If your page containes individual text  box, images, each  sits in its own layer, if you dont know about layers, imagine each text box or image you have is on a sheet of clear glass -  now stack up the sheets of glass and when looking through.. you  just see the images, text and objects. By using "Arrange" in teh  top menu, you can move these backwards or forwards to remove any clashes.
Also check that text boxes ( not flowing text boxes) are all opened enough in width and height to  full accomodate your text - then see how the  box itself is sitting in relation to the other page content.
Are your students geeting "yourbook.ibooks" files onto their computer or are you  taking each iPad and using iBA Preview to send to  each iPad, if so.... preview in iPad  has been known in some cases to be unrellable!

  • Why do I need Pages 5 to open iBooks Author documents?

I am a TA at a college and I have been grading students' iBook submissions for a class.  However, this week when I went to open their submissions I got the following error message: "You need a newer version of Pages to open this document."  Clicking the "Learn More" button sent me to the Pages 5 website, which said I had to pay $20 for Pages.  I do not currently have Pages on my computer (MacBook Pro OS X 10.7.5). Do I really have to pay $20 to do my grading? Is there any way around this? Can the students save their submissions as an older version?

I've just had this issue. Edited an .iba file on a different computer and then when I tried to open it again on my old iMac that it was originally created on it gave precisely that error: You need a newer version of Pages to open this document." Google points to this webpage, but all the answers above miss the point the op was making which is that iBooks Author is giving a stupid error message. The fix was to update iBooks Author to the latest version on my old computer. (Basically the other mac had a more recent version of iBooks Author on it.)
What a waste of a morning, installing the hideous Yosemite, fixing the god-awful look of the thing, upgrading pages (unnecessarily it seems), and finally getting iBooks Author upgraded.
Anyway, I hope this answer might help others avoid similar.

  • IBooks Author for iPad, ePub for iPhone?

I understand iBooks Author creates books ONLY for iPad.
So what happens If i want the book I am working on for iPhone as well? ... Do I create 2 versions:
iPad - iBooks Author Multi-Touch edition
    iBooks - Standard ePub version
Is there a way for me to state the iBooks version to ONLY show up for iPhone and iPod Touch .... ? So I am effectivly putting on 2 different books ...
    Thanks,
    Ben

At this time, beyond the categories you can choose from in iTunes Producer/Assets, how you describe your app is basically up to you Apple will let you know if they disagree.
The Yellow Submarine book is epub and available for both iPhone and iPad....you may want to take a look at it for ideas, etc.

  • IBooks Author seems to have stopped counting words at a bit under 20,000.  Page count is wrong too.  Anyone else seen this or know what's wrong?

I believe I'm updated to the latest version of iBooks Author, and have crossed over 20,000 words on my book, and it seems to be stuck at 19,267 words.  My page count is up to 91 but iBooks Author says 85 (that one is easier to verify, but word count simply isn't moving at this point.  I browsed a bit but didn't find the issue reported elsewhere.  Is there perhaps an option I'm missing or something?  It seemed to be just fine, and when I got things transferred from Pages the word count was at least similar to what it was so I think it's been working.

Fabe, thanks for asking clarifying questions. Inspector in iBooks Author tells me there are 85 pages, and the page count next to the thumbnails tells me a different number, saying the last page is 91.  That is not including front matter so, yes, there are more pages.  In fact, many more since there is a quite a bit more white space in the iBooks version.  As for word count and being able to enter more text, I really didn't notice that the word count was not changing until I had checked back several times and noticed it hadn't crossed over 20,000 words and then noticed that the number looked awfully familiar.  In my case, it certainly seems to be stuck at 19.267 words, and I don't see any other negative effects.

  • IBooks Author and Keynote Interactives

I have many keynote interactives but when I preview my book on the IPad most if not all of the keynote interactives have been duplicated accross several figures.
For example I have Figure 5.1, 5.2 and 5.3. I have associated(both drag and drop and the file chooser) key note presentations Figure 5.1, Figure 5.2 and Figure 5.3 in IBooks Author.
When I go to preview the book, both as a whole as as a section, Figure 5.1 is showing my Figure 5.1, Figure 5.2 is showing Figure 5.1(wrong) and Figure 5.3 is also showing Figure 5.1 (wrong).
I go back into IBooks and everything is associated correctly?
So I have not idea why it is doing this other than my book template is completely screwed up.
    Any ideas?
    Scott L.

Thanks apple support helped me resolve this.
It would seem that IBook Author cannot tell the difference between files that have similar names.
For example it can't tell the different between Interactive 1.1 and Interactive 1.2 the names are too similar.
What the heck, the previous versions of IBook Author were 10 times better than this.

  • Convedrt existing epub for iBooks Author

I have an existing book in both .epub and .prc formats, successfuly being used in other channels (including Kindle) by lots of readers and purchasers.  No need for me to recreate this from scratch, or import bits and pieces to re-assemble it.  (I also have a PDF version.)
I'd like to create an iBooks version.  iBooks Author won't let me import the .epub or .prc file.
Do I need to convert the .epub file I have, or is it iBooks ready as-is?   If I need to convert/change/alter it, where can I find detailed steps for how to do this?
Note: lots of advice on getting things INTO the .epub format, which isn't what I need.
    Thanks, -R

Can you open in Pages? iBooks Author, as you've found, won't open a standard epub. If you can get it open in Pages or Indesign, then perhaps you can insert Pages chapters or copy/paste from it or ID.
The file must be .ibooks, which is a hybrid epub format from Apple, when distributing/publishing via iBA.
You might just want to not bother with iBooks Author and go straight to signing up for the store, then use iTunes Producer to upload a standard epub. You'll have to work thru the process to see how close you are for that process.
As well, check this link for info on aggregators that may be willing to do the work for you:
