Early 2010 Macbook Unibody; connecting to TV

I bought my white unibody 2.26 GHZ Intel Core 2 Duo Macbook earlier this year. I saw that the Mini DVI to Video will not work for the newer one which is what I used to use with my first generation Macbook. What is the simplest way to connect the newer white Unibody to a TV with HDMI ports?

Welcome to the forums. These are the video output options as listed in the specs.
+DVI output using Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter+
+VGA output using Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter+
+Dual-link DVI output using Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter supports 30-inch Apple Cinema HD Display (optional)+
+HDMI output using a third-party Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter+
Your best bet would be to do a search for a third party *Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter*. There are numerous ones available at a large price range.

Can anyone tell me If I can get Apple TV device to work on my early 2010 macbook pro

No it wouldn't. If you don't have a TV you would be watching content on the MB, the ATV is for accessing said content on an HDTV

  • Why is it that the 2010 macbooks cannot connect with the thunderbolt display even though they have a thunderbolt port?

I am wondering why cant the 2010 macbooks access the thunderbolt capabilites on the new thunderbolt display? I think it is pointless and some what disrespectful that they force you to try to buy a new computer if you are interested in the display. The 2010s are still very good and relevant devices and apple prides its self on making devices that are usable for more than one year. In that case the older  comps will soon stop being able to be updated.

The Thunderbolt specification and implementation was rolled out starting  with the Early 2011 models. For some reason, Apple decided to recycle the connector already being used for the Mini-DisplayPort.
So no, you can't "access" TB capabilities in the older MBP cause the circuitry isn't there.

  • 3D gaming on a Early 2010 Macbook Pro

I am wondering I could install the NVIDIA software necessary to play games in 3D. Now my thought on it was this, my macbook has the NVIDIA Geforce graphics card that is needed for the software, and if I ran windows 7 through parallels or bootcamp I could install the NVIDIA software; I'd also need a 3D monitor. However I'm not sure if the intel core 2 duo is strong enough. Anybody else have any thoughts on this?

Yes whether.  I never double check my typing.  Oops.  Anyway.  I have heard all these bad things on reviews on the app store and online on other forums.  People saying it causes crashes, lost of files, inability to use old programs or files after upgrading, iTunes glitches etc.  I mean the list goes a mile long. But no one says what operating system they are using or what they did when upgrading.  I only ask because anytime I have ever updated an apple product I have always been satisfied.  I just can't fathom apple disappointing this time if they haven't yet.  Simply why I am looking for some direct comments instead of something I'm reading from god knows who doing god knows what on god knows what operating system.  And so on and so on.......
I have no idea where you go to read reviews, but judging by your comments, don't upgrade, or you will blame every issue you have on Lion. Just remember that Tiger, Leopard, and especially Snow Leopard were given the same treatment here and on other forums when they were released. Happens with every new OS.
My advice is that seeing that you seem to have your mind made up that Lion is a disaster before you have even tried it, stay with Snow Leopard. Do remember over 6 million people have downloaded it and only a very tiny percentage come here to fix their issues  or complain. Most of us have no problems at all.

  • My mid 2010 MacBook Pro loses network connectivity

I have four mac computers running on our home network.  My mid 2010 MacBook Pro has become notorious for losing network connectivity with the other computers.  It maintains it's internet connectivity consistently, but it's ability to see and connect with the other computers on the local network is finicky at best.  The other three computers (2008 iMac, 2012 iMac, 2012 MacBook Pro) all connect to our Actiontec MI424WR Fios router via ethernet, whereas the mid 2010 MacBook Pro connects via WiFi.
If anyone could please help me troubleshoot the issue, that'd be much appreciated.
    Sincerely.

Back up all data before making any changes.
    Step 1
Take all the applicable steps in this support article.
    Step 2
If you're running OS X 10.8.4 or later, run Wireless Diagnostics and take the remedial steps suggested in the summary that appears, if any. The program also generates a large file of information about your system, which would be used by Apple Engineering in case of a support incident. Don't post the contents here.
    Step 3
If you're not using a wireless keyboard or trackpad, disable Bluetooth by selecting Turn Bluetooth Off from the menu with the Bluetooth icon. If you don't have that menu, open the Bluetooth preference pane in System Preferences and check the box marked Show Bluetooth in menu bar. Test. Continue if you find that Wi-Fi is faster with Bluetooth disabled.
From that same menu, select Open Bluetooth Preferences. If the box labeled Discoverable is checked, uncheck it. Click the Advanced button, and in the sheet that opens, uncheck the top three boxes, if any are checked. Click OK. Enable Bluetooth and test again.
If the application called "Bluetooth Setup Assistant" is running, quit it.
    Step 4
This step will erase all your settings in the Network preference pane. Make a note of them before you begin, and recreate them afterwards. It may be helpful to take screenshots of the preference pane.
Triple-click the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item named "SystemConfiguration" selected. Move the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator password.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
    Reset the System Management Controller.
    Step 5
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service center.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional — ask if you need guidance.
If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.

They're not guaranteed to solve the problem, but they'll only take a minute or so to try.

  • How can I connect my Early 2011" Macbook Pro 13" inch, with a generic Mini Display Port to HDMI connector, to a LG 32LD340 LCD TV, using Mountain Lion 10.8.2?

I have an Early 2011" macbook pro 13 inch (core i5 2.3ghz 4gb ram 320hdd) with Mountain Lion 10.8.2, and I want to connect it via Mini DP to HDMI connector, and a HDMI cable to a LCD TV LG 32LD340. When I had Lion OS, I had no problems at all.

If you have an external drive equal to or larger than your internal HD, clone your internal to it with either Carbon Copy Cloner or Super Duper. Test the clone to make sure it's bootable. Then upgrade either one. Try it out first.

  • Late 2010 MacBook Pro Cannot Connect to Internet

Hello, First time posting a question here.
I have a late 2010 Macbook Pro 15" i5, 2.4Ghz, currently running 10.6.8. At my apartment the provided wifi has been spotty for several months. In the past I have been able to turn off my airport using the dock at the top of my screen, wait a little while (30 seconds or so) and turn it back on. I would get wifi back and then be able to resume to use the Internet.
Recently, however, I have been having extreme issues with connectivity. I will see full bars on the airport display but my dropbox icon (what I use to test connectivity real quick) will keep indicating that I am not connected to the internet. For the past week I was able to get internet with an ethernet cable plugged into the router, ONLY if my airport was turned off.
Now I cannot even get internet through the ethernet cable.
Here are some things I have been able to eliminate.
Bad computer hardware - My computer instantly connects to the wifi at my family home, on campus and where ever I have ever been. I get reliable, un-interupted internet connectivity.
Bad Wifi signal - All other devices (including the ipad I am writing this on) connect immediately to the wifi with no problems with connectivity.
    About my computer:
    OS: 10.6.8
    CPU: intel i5 2.4 GHz
    Memory: 4Gb 1067 MHz DDR3
    About my Router:
    Ubee DWW365 Wireless Cable Modem
    ISP: Charter
I have indeed rebooted my router, but not luck yet.

    Hi Cyberviper42,

  • How can I connect my early 2008 MacBook Pro to a tv through HDMI?

I was wondering if there is a way to connect my early 2008 MacBook Pro to a tv using an HDMI port. My MacBook Pro has a DVI output. In the past I bought a DVI to VGA adapter and connected it to a TV that had a PC input that took VGA and a 3.5mm audio cable. I was wondering if anybody has found an adapter or cable that takes a DVI and 3.5 mm audio cord and has only an HDMI cord at the other end. I have a new TV that only has HDMI inputs and would like to be able to connect my laptop to it.

Since you have not identified exactly what MBP you have, but mention DVI, I suspect a cable such as this is what you will need.
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/380694416929?lpid=82
Understand that 2009 MBPs and earlier do not support audio via DVI or minidisplay port.  You would have to tap the audio output port  with a cable such as this:
    http://http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=&sku=691009&Q=&is=REG&A =details
I am not endorsing these cable specifically, these are just examples that represent what connections that are required.
    Ciao.

  • My mid 2010 MacBook Pro 15 inch unibody battery will not accept a charge

    HI there one and all!
My mid 2010 MacBook Pro 15" unibody laptop will not accept a normal charge using the mag safe cord. I have replaced the original battery with a factory new replacement, but I still have the same results.
The computer powers up and runs only with the mag safe cord attached and when shut down, does not switch from green to orange to indicate the charging mode.
Can anyone be of assistance or perhaps has had a similar issue? Thanks in advance to anyone for their insight and help. If it makes a difference, my computer information is as follows: MacBook Pro 15", Mid 2010
Processor 2.66 GHz Intel Core i7
                                            Memory.    4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3

Please find "System Information" in this folder path---Applications > Utilities---and launch it. When it opens, find "Power" in the left-hand contents pane and click it to get something like this in teh main pane:
Copy everything in the "Battery Information" and copy/paste it here. The number values in that report may help us diagnose what is happening.
Also, did you buy this battery directly from Apple or from another source. There are an increasing number of reports showing up that suggests some counterfeit batteries being sold.

  • Can I connect my late-2012 iMac to my mid-2010 MacBook Pro?

I've just bought a new late 2012 27" iMac and also have a mid-2010 MacBook Pro.
I also purchased a Thunderbolt cable, is there anyway I can use this to connect the two? If not... do I have any options for file sharing between the two?

The Thunderbolt cable is useless to connect both Macs. Mid 2010 MacBooks Pro have got Mini DisplayPort, and Mini DisplayPort isn't compatible with Thunderbolt.
If you want to use Target Disk Mode in order to connect both Macs, you have to buy two things: the Thunderbolt to FireWire adapter, and a FireWire cable to connect the adapter and the MacBook. You have to connect the Thunderbolt adapter to the Thunderbolt port of the iMac.
Then, if you want to transfer old files from the backup, you can use Migration Assistant if you want to migrate applications and user accounts (if you haven't set up the iMac, use Setup Assistant. If you want to transfer individual files, use Target Disk Mode

  • How can I put my old Macbook Pro early 2010 audio on my new Samsung HDTV?

I bought a Macbook Pro in March 2010 that does not support HDMI audio. So, when I am plugging my Macbook Pro on my new Samsung Series 5 5500 HDTV with a HDMI cable that supports audio, I am getting the image, but no audio. When I go to System Preferences there is no choice of Samsung TV as audio output, which makes sense since my Macbook Pro is too old (only mid-2010 Macbook Pro supports HDMI audio).
I then bought a 3.5mm to RCA cable and linked my computer via the headphone jack to the only composite audio plug I have at the back of my TV (see the picture below). I was expecting this setting to work perfectly fine but actually I am not getting any sound from my TV.
I know that some people are using a cable with two 3.5 mm male ends to connect the Macbook Pro to the TV, but my TV does not have any input for a 3.5mm cable (which is strange since the TV is quite new).
Is the only solution to get audio from my Macbook Pro on my HDTV would be to buy a new Macbook Pro or there is another alternative?
Thanks a lot for any hint!

    Hi B,
It looks like you'd have to run component video in order to use the RCA inputs that go with the component inputs. Notice there is no separate audio input with the HDMI port.
A work-around would be to run the RCA audio to a receiver/amp and through its speakers. Still another way would be if you had a receiver/amp which allowed you to combine RCA audio with HDMI video, then you could run the HDMI, now carrying both audio and video, to your TV's HDMI input.
