EARLY DAYS OF A YOUNG HEART

SAY NO TO FEMALE GENITAL MULTILATION. a copy bought goes a long way to save a young African woman from Tears

Well after another 4 weeks the speed has not come close to expectations (particularaly upload speed) and while not hopeless, this performance would not have persuaded me to move from a rock steady ADSL2 which gave over 16mb of the up to speed of 20Mb.  I might as well save the moneyand move to the cheaper 38Mb package!
I was sold on the estimate below but the actual speeds are consistant but well short of expectations.  I have disconncected the house wiring and actually renewed a couple of connections to eliminate the possiblility of interfereance and ran this test with the wireless off at the HH but nothing has helped so I suspect there is an issue elsewhere?
Any suggestions or will I just have to wait 17 months and change providor??

  • Only early days but still waiting on my BlackBerry PlayBook to be repaired after shutting down on me : (

Approximately 2 weeks ago my BlackBerry PlayBook shut down on me (after only one months of use). Anyhow, last Saturday (July 30th, 2012) I handed it back into Harvey Normans (the place where I purchased it from) for them to send it away to get repaired and the man that I gave it to said: "your tablet should be fixed in a week to a week and a half".
Anyhow, I rang them today and they said that my PlayBook was still at the Harvey Normans Office waiting for BlackBerry to come and pick it up (so much for the week to a week and a half)!! The other thing that the Harvey Normans lady said today was that repairs can be up to 4 weeks (well this is NOT what I was told when me and my girlfriend took it in to get sent away for repairs)!!
Anyhow, it is only early days yet but I just want my BlackBerry PlayBook fixed so I can start using it for work again like I always have!! It is soooo frustrating not having my BlackBerry PlayBook here especially seeing as I am so reliant on it for work purposes!! (I am even considering buying another PlayBook as a back-up but my girlfreind advised to just wait until my old one is fixed and go from there!! Anyhow, only time will tell how I go with the repair!!

I'm guessing the retailer forgot to call straight away - my PlayBook repair was swift when I dealt directly with RIM.

  • Early days in ABAP

    Hi all,
Lets try and recollect our very early days in ABAP,when we were learning just the basics.I am sure most will have a memorable incidents of the days.To start with mine i can tell while learning the ABAP for very first time i used to be so much confused with the data declarations, why do we used structures, table type and what was the difference between them, difference with with header line and without it..also why do we need to need to maintain text modules when we can directly text boxes in forms...and a lot more. Now when i have the answers to them with experience the questions seemed so silly..:)
Hoping to hear more silly incidents of our past.
    Thanks,
    Abhishek

    Hi,
If your calculating dates please do not manually calculate it like that.
You need to determine like week numbers, month and days.
The best way to do it is by using FM related to dates. Play around with these FMs in your program:
Function Modules related to Date and Time Calculations
CALCULATE_DATE  - Calculates the future date based on the input .
DATE_TO_DAY - Returns the Day for the entered date.
    DATE_COMPUTE_DAY - Returns weekday for a date
    DATE_GET_WEEK - Returns week for a date
    RP_CALC_DATE_IN_INTERVAL - Add days / months to a date
DAY_ATTRIBUTES_GET - Returns attributes for a range of dates specified
MONTHS_BETWEEN_TWO_DATES - To get the number of months between the two dates.
END_OF_MONTH_DETERMINE_2 - Determines the End of a Month.
HR_HK_DIFF_BT_2_DATES -Find the difference between two dates in years, months and days.
FIMA_DAYS_AND_MONTHS_AND_YEARS - Find the difference between two dates in years, months and days.
WEEK_GET_FIRST_DAY - Get the first day of the week
SD_CALC_DURATION_FROM_DATETIME - Find the difference between two date/time and report the difference in hours
L_MC_TIME_DIFFERENCE - Find the time difference between two date/time
HR_99S_INTERVAL_BETWEEN_DATES - Difference between two dates in days, weeks, months
LAST_DAY_OF_MONTHS - Returns the last day of the month
DATE_CHECK_PLAUSIBILITY - Check for the invalid date.
    DATE_2D_TO_4D_CONVERSION - Year entry: 2-character to  4-character.
DAY_IN_WEEK  - Input date and will give the name of the day 1-monday,2-Tuesday....
SD_DATETIME_DIFFERENCE - Give the difference in Days and Time for 2 dates

  • CS5..early days but...

I am shocked, stunned and amazed!  ................(and delighted)
I know its real early days... but at about this time after CS4 was made available to install...this forum was flooded with CS4 issues and they went on for sometime. (Including my own rants)
I think Adobe has been very clever and the MPE / CUDA / NVIDIA smokescreen has worked.
(just joking but I do note the considerable amount of discussion about hardware / performance ie cards / HDDs... and nothing about software ie CS5).
As has become norm on this forum..the big continuing issue is AVCHD. (boring, boring, yawn,)
Jeez...surely someone is having a great editing experience with this crap.  If so...can they let the other guys know and then tell them how to do it
Actually I suspect this CS version is really a great release and will be installing it myself tomorrow from my download. to a new machine (Have been waiting on new Ram due to 1st batch being problematical).
Tempting fate but I expect no issues at all and I wil be able to put the CS5 suite into productivity/earning  mode far earlier than I expected.

    function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
trying to cram everything into the archaic 32 bit memory space
Oh, soon we will say that about 64 bit as well.
Let me start in another end. What kind of computers were used to put the first man on the moon?
Well, if the development should have increased as much as the memory space has, we should now be able to travel in time by the use of a modern computer.
64 bit will not give better stability, you see, people are the same (people = computer owners) and they will of "good old habit" screw up their computers by installing whatever, clicking OK/YES too many times, and so on. When did people get the opportunity to do so? When the memory space got big enough for making GUI "for everybody".

  • Very Early Days, 2mbps - Billion 7800n and SnR Twe...

    Hi there,
Broadband's only been activated 2 days ago, and whilst I cannot run BT's speedtest.net for some reason, I have these stats from the router, plus I am running the Billion SNR tweak lowering SnR margin by 4.5db...

    Downstream

    SNR Margin(Downstream)
    4.1
    Line Attenuation(Upstream)
    24.0
    Line Attenuation(Downstream)
    42.0
Is it a bit premature to be messing around with the tweak settings with the figures I have...? Should I just let thinks settle for 2 weeks or more?
Currently I have 2 Mbps down and 0.36 up...
    Thanks..

you should really leave everything alone for the first 10 days including using the home hub so that if any help is needed after that period we can help you further

  • Early days but disappointing

The engineer turned up as arranged a week ago to connect infinity.  I wanted the main box upstairs rather than in my dining room but that was not an issue as there are 2 cables at the incoming point so easy to use the right one.
Engineer did as asked, tested and reported 60 meg connection happy days - when I got home it was 29 meg down and 2.5 meg up - reset modem and the upload improved to 13 meg so crossed my fingers it would go up?  Instead on Saturday the connection failed completely and after talking to support they acknowledged a line fault .  I will say that despite having to go through the basic of resetting the modem etc CS was good.
Sunday checked the connections myself and found the master wired as a spur so no filters were actually connected to the phone wiring!  BT engineer arrived Monday and identified the same thing and proceeded to move the master back down to the dining room and spurred the data up to the modem.  As he used the master downstairs he now did not have a suitable faceplate so hard wired the modem into the box - not good if you actually want to unplug it!  I can easily sort that myself by connecting incoming line back upstairs, moving the master socket and connecting the rest of the extensions on another pair but it would have been nice if one of the BT engineers could have worked this out?
And now I have half the expected speed at 7meg up and 27meg down!!  I know the line can handle a lot more both because that is half what was predicted and I ran at over 16 meg on my o2 connection showing the line is very good.
So now I have to wait another week to let it 'settle down'.  I have no expectation it will increase on it's own so it will be more time wasted and overall a very disappointing first week with BT.

  • Why didn't no one lay Fiber in the streets back in the early days

Hey All, I'm curious as to why didn't no one lay Fiber into the ground in the year 2000 and start the fast network from that day Phone lines were never meant to run internet? considering so many issues during the past 15 years Didn't they realise back then that it have to be replaced with proper cables/Fiber in the ground Just curious to hear everyone else's response to this.

I can give you several reasons: 1: when they decided to sell off public owned phone services they screwed up and sold the physical infastructure as well as the customer base. 2: the competitiors argued that it was pointless to double up all the infrastruture and should just pay a rental to the owner of that infrastrucure ( hence why there is some optus and some telstra cable broadband options in limited areas and the reason also why they didnt expand futher) 3: Telstra (which really should have been a customers only business) wasnt going to spend the millions or billions to upgrade the lines out of their own pockets for the competitors to gain advantage over them

  • How a drop out made $5000 in 30 days with $10 using this system

NOTE: PLEASE COPY THE WHOLE OF THIS AND SAVE IT ANYWHERE, THIS IS REAL AND SERIOUS.
How to convert $10 to $15000 in 30 days only as easy as possible.
TURN $10 INTO $15,000 IN ONLY 30 DAYS...HERE IS HOW! This is a Money Scheme and Not, I repeat... This is Not a Scam!!!
This program has been proven by the Oprah show … make easy money using Liberty Reserve. Spend $10 to make thousands – proven by Oprah & 20/20
This program is by no means new. It has been in existence in many forms for at least a decade. But in the early days, it required a lot more time and effort, as well as an investment of a few hundred dollars. However thanks to Liberty Reserve and the Internet, the investment is now virtually ZERO! And what's more, the entire process is FASTER, EASIER, and MORE LUCRATIVE than it has EVER been! Below is how the business works.
How to Turn $10 into $15,000 in 30 Days with Liberty Reserve, I WAS SHOCKED WHEN I SAW HOW MUCH MONEY CAME FLOODING INTO MY Liberty Reserve ACCOUNT. I turned $10 into $14,706 within the first 30 days of operating the business plan that I am about to reveal to you. If you decide to take action on the following instructions, I will GUARANTEE that you will enjoy a similar return! STILL NEED PROOF? Here are just 3 testimonials from the countless individuals who decided to invest nothing more than $5 and half an hour of their time to participate in this program:
"What an amazing plan! I followed your instructions just 3 weeks ago, and although I haven't made $15,000 yet, I'm already up to $9,135. I'm absolutely gob smacked." -Emeka Obikpo Owerri, NG.
"Well, what can I say?... THANK YOU SO MUCH! I sent 400 e-mail's out like you said and then I just forgot about the whole thing. To be honest, I didn't really think anything would come of it. But when I checked my Liberty Reserve account a week later, there was over $5,000 in After 30 days I now have over $11,000 to spend! I can't thank you enough!"-Juan Tovar, Brooklyn , NY
"I was shocked when I saw how much money came flooding into my Liberty Reserve account. Within 3 weeks my account balance has ballooned to $12,449. At first I thought there had been some sort of error with my account!" -Richard Barrie. Boulder, CO. Manhattan
The only things you will need are: An internet connection, a Liberty Reserve account with at least $10 deposited in it and just 15 to 30 minutes of your time. This program takes just half an hour to set up. After that, there is absolutely no work whatsoever to do on your part. You have absolutely NOTHING to lose, and there is NO LIMIT to the amount of income you can generate from this one single business program.
Let's get started, just follow the instructions exactly as set out below and then prepare yourself for a HUGE influx of cash over the next 30 days! Here's what you need to do. . .
    REQUIREMENTS
[THESE INSTRUCTIONS MUST BE FOLLOWED VERBATIM FOR THIS TO WORK]
    #1 A fast internet connection
    #2 A Liberty Reserve account
    Now follow the steps: 1-4
STEP #1 - Ok, if you're not already a Liberty Reserve user, the very first thing you
need to do is go on this website http://www.libertyreserve.com and SIGN UP. It takes
    just 2 minutes!
Liberty Reserve is the second online money transfer website that I am reviewing, Liberty Reserve is the most secure e payment means, and Liberty Reserve is already making headway into the European market.
    Here are their features
    Sign Up: Free
Send Fee: Free but if you want to make a private payment which is optional.($0.75)
    Receive money: FREE OF CHARGE.
Upload money: Many verified liberty reserve exchangers for every country.
Liberty Reserve to me is the best online payment processing service. They have all the features that I needed plus it is scam free and that is because of the wonderful verification process they have for their accounts. STEP #2 - Sending Liberty Reserve money "It is an undeniable law of the universe that we must first give in order to receive."
Now all you have to do is send $2.00 by way of Liberty Reserve to each of the five Liberty Reserve accounts once you must have funded your account with $12 only (service charge 1%), then send $2 to each of the accounts on the List then move the top one and place yours in the #5 spot on the list of accounts #1-#5. Remember your name becomes #5.
#1 U7725051------------------ Remove this account number.
#2 U7775099------------------ This one should go to the top position.
    #3 U0423373
    #4 U1782832
#5 U2187584 ------------------ Here is where your account number comes in.
Note - Once you have made your payments to all the account numbers above, send a mail to [email protected] so that your account would be added to the liberty reserve database of steady participants for this list (registration otherwise your account won’t be registered and no money for you), this is what makes this business real and there is no room for cheat.
The reason why your account should be at the 5th position is that your account continues get paid to for a long time till it comes to the first position and payments would stop. By then your account must have been up to $30,000. You may start posting again.
Remember, all of this is ABSOLUTELY LEGAL! You are creating a service! A Business.
If you have any doubts, please refer to Title 18 Sec. 1302 & 1241 of the United States Postal laws.
STEP #3 - Adding Your Liberty reserve account number. After you send your five $2.00 payments, it's your turn to add your liberty reserve account number to the list! And send a mail as ordered above for instant registration for the success of the business on your side.
Once you have paid to all the accounts given, take the #1 account off the list that you see above, move the other addresses up one change the numbers (5 becomes 4&4 becomes 3, etc) then put YOUR account number (your Liberty Reserve account number) as #5 on the list.
**MAKE SURE THE ACCOUNT NUMBER YOU SUPPLY IS EXACTLY YOUR LIBERTY RESERVE ACCOUNT.**
STEP #4 - Copy the whole of this letter (after you must have paid $2.00 to all the numbers above, your account registered and you have edited the letter with your acc. Number at position 5) to 200 new groups, message boards, forums etc...... The Pure Joy of Receiving Liberty Reserve Money!
New groups, message boards, forums are places where people meet on the internet to discuss related topics. These are websites where you can place adverts, discuss different topics, or talk on your areas of difficulty (to seek help, answers) There are more than 400,000 such websites on the internet where you may create an account and start posting your information (this letter after you have added your acc. Number as directed after your payments).
You are now ready to post your copy of this message, to at least 50-200 newsgroups, message boards, etc. (I think there are close to 400,000 groups because I posted to 60)
All you need is 40, but remember, the more you post, the more money you make - as well as everyone else on the list! In this situation your job is to let as many people see this letter as possible. So they will make you rich!!!! You can even start posting the moment you have paid into the accounts above and your account gets verified. Payments will still appear in your Liberty Reserve account after the 30 days period because as people get this message they send you money and they post, you are still at number 5 and the money still comes in until the list is saturated to a stage that your account comes to the 1st position and gets replaced.
Or you can send this letter to all your contacts and friends or out a minimum of 400 copies of the email - but only to people you know, or to people who respond to these offers, or to people who've sent YOU offers. By sending this letter via email, the response time is EXTREMELY fast.......... ELECTRONIC TRANSFER ON THE INTERNET IS FAST!!!
HOW TO POST TO NEWSGROUPS & MESSAGE BOARDS
Step #1) you do not need to re-type this entire letter to do your own posting. Simply put your CURSOR at the beginning of this letter and drag your CURSOR to the bottom of this document, and select 'copy' from the edit menu or CTRL+A which means select all and then CTRL+C which means copy all. This will copy the entire letter into your computer's temporary memory.
Step #2) Open a blank 'Notepad' file and place your cursor at the top of the blank page. From the 'Edit' menu select 'Paste' or just CTRL+V. This will paste a copy of the letter into notepad so that you can edit this article (adding your account number to the list) as required. Or copy to a Word Document. and Place in your account number upon completion.
Step #3) Save your new Notepad file as a .txt file. If you want to do your postings in different sites, you'll always have this file to go back to.
Step #4) Use Netscape, Mozilla Firefox, opera, apple safari, Google chrome and Internet Explorer browsers (any one of your choice) etc and try searching for various newsgroups, on-line forums, message boards, bulletin boards, chat sites, discussions, discussion groups, online communities, etc. EXAMPLE: go to any search engine like www.yahoo.com www.google.com www.altavista.com www.excite.com www.mamma.com www.devilfinder.com www.ask.com etc.- then search with subjects like millionaire message board or money making message board or opportunity message board or money making discussions or business bulletin board or money making forum etc. You will find thousands & thousands of message boards. Click them one by one then you will find the option to post a new message.
Step #5) Visit these message boards and post this article as a new message by highlighting the text of this letter and selecting 'Paste' from the 'Edit' menu. Fill in the Subject, this will be the header that everyone sees as they scroll thru the list of postings in a particular group, click the post message button. You're done with your first one!
Congratulations! THAT'S IT!! All you have to do is jump to different newsgroups and post away. After you get the hang of it, it will take about 30 seconds for each newsgroup! ha ha, when this is done, your next job is to just go to sleep for 5 days (??ha ha!??), come back and see how over flooded your account gets at that short period.
REMEMBER, THE MORE NEWSGROUPS AND/OR MESSAGE BOARDS YOU POST IN, THE MORE MONEY YOU WILL MAKE!! BUT YOU HAVE TO POST A MINIMUM OF 50**
That's it! You will begin receiving money within days!
**JUST MAKE SURE THE ACCOUNT NUMBERS YOU SUPPLY ARE EXACTLY AS IT APPEARS ON LIBERTY RESERVE.**
Explanation of why it works so well:
$$$$$ NOW THE WHY PART: Out of 50 postings, say I receive only 10 replies (a very low example). So then I Made $20.00 with my account number at #5 on the letter. Now, each of the 10 persons who just sent me $2.00 make the MINIMUM 50 postings, each with my account at #4 and only 10 persons respond to each of the original 4, that is another $200.00 for me, now those 100 each make 50 MINIMUM posts with my account at #3 and only 10 replies each, I will bring in an additional $2000.00! Now, those 1000 persons turn around and post the MINIMUM 50 with my account at #2 and only receive 5 replies each, I will make an additional $20,000.00! OK, now here is the fun part, each of those 10,000 persons post a MINIMUM 50 letters with my account at #1 and hey!!, this is a huge amount of cash we are talking about within a short period of time, this is real cash over flow. This is a crazy cash income business that people don’t know too well about and it is time to make a real means out of it.
The thing to remember is, thousands of people all over the world are joining the internet and reading these articles every day, JUST LIKE YOU are now!!
So can you afford $10.00?? And see if it really works?? I think so? People have said, what if the plan is played out and no one sends you the money? So what are the chances of that happening when there are tons of new honest users and new honest people who are joining the internet and newsgroups everyday and are willing to give it a try? Estimates are at 20,000 to 50,000 new users everyday, with thousands of those joining the actual Internet.
Remember, play FAIRLY and HONESTLY and this will work. This really isn't another one of those crazy scams! As long as people FOLLOW THROUGH with sending out $10.00, it works!
With warm wishes, bless you and your loved ones,
$$$$$ REMEMBER, IT IS 100% LEGAL! DON'T AND NEVER MISS OUT.

  • Apple TV vs PS3 - I'd have an AppleTV any day

I'd been considering getting a 2nd AppleTV for a while, but was tempted to try out some other media players/extenders.
There are only a couple of things for me that stop AppleTV being a killer device.
First - the limited choice of video file formats. I hate transcoding things.
Second - the odd decision to have an unusable USB port. It could be so easy to add storage capacity.
Third - why no random music video play?
There are lots of other little things I'd like but those 3 are top of my wishlist.
Anyhow, waited for the UK PS3 price drop, bought a 60GB PS3 a few days later (new 40GB not backwards compatible with PS2 games, not that I have any, but I do have some PS1 games which are still entertaining though incredibly dated!).
Early impressions of the PS3 are not great.
I'm surprised it won this EISA award:
    http://www.eisa-awards.eu/2007/node/738
Noise - surprisingly noisy fans, even when fairly idle vs completely silent AppleTV. Strange how some fan noise is intrusive, other fan noise isn't - my projector fan noise is quite loud but not annoying like the PS3.
Audio output - I can only select 1 output at a time unlike AppleTV's audio outs all on concurrently. With the PS3 I have optical out to my AV kit, but if I just want to listen to audio through the plasma via HDMI I have to access settings menu and change it! Arghhh!
Media playback - far from good. It seems to be incredibly fussy about encoding of files. I'd say 80-90% of files I have in supposedly supported formats are not recognized. Thinsg are just reported as corurpt data when they play back fine on a PC/Mac. This includes MP3s, MPEG2 files, h264/MPEG-4 files. The ability to hook up a FAT32 external drive via USB 2 is great, but absolutely useless if it won't play the media on it. Ok, it's early days yet, and I may be starting to learn what works and what doesn't, but I wasn't expecting to have to transcode things again just so they conform to the Sony's idiosyncrasies. Also even if you can get your VOBs to play you cannot output 5.1 surround from media stored on hard drive/memory cards.
Interface - pretty hopeless IMO vs simple pleasing AppleTV interface.
Games - well it's a games machine, not much more to say, stunning visuals but so far my PS1 games are more fun!
DVD/BluRay playback - excellent playback, but the fan noise!!!
Streaming - so far only tried Eye Connect from Elgato - absoluteley useless, can't view anything - either reports network errors or incompatible/corrupt data. Might try Media Tomb, but installation looks far from simple. Compare that with near perfect iTunes streaming.
Wireless - g vs AppleTv's n. Used in identical spot to AppleTV I get 20-40% signal strength vs 4-5 bars for AppleTV. PS3 seems to be a sod for wireless protocols too, so I've had to compromise everything else to get the connection up.
Usability factor - Mrs AC can easily use the AppleTV, not so sure she'll easily get the hang of navigation on the PS3, the interface really is naff.
Ho hum, should have bought another AppleTV saved £150 quid, donned the asbestos underpants, and dabbled with modding the AppleTV, perian etc.
So all in all, AppleTV ain't perfect, but it's small, cute, quiet and pretty much just works.....will have to wait and see what the next iteration of the product brings to the party.
    AC

Hi Winston, I assume you've played with a PS3 then. The interface is very quick and responsive but just seems a cluttered mess to me.
There are quite a few nice things about the PS3, but from a media playback viewpoint it's currently not ticking the right boxes for me.
In essence I just want to copy stuff onto a USB drive plug and play. Should be easy but isn't.
I've been a bit on an early adopter over the years, but less so these days, and would have thought with all the PS3 firmware updates it would be more refined for media playback from hard drives - streaming may well be a different matter with Windows media servers, but my XP box is all disconnected at present as I'm decorating a room so haven't tried it.
BluRay disc playback is superb, and so are the games in HD, but visual eye candy alone doesn't make up for boring films or tedious games - perhaps I'm just getting old, but I watched Spiderman3 (blockbuster rent some BluRay thankfully) the other day, fantastic visuals but what a cheesy film.
The one interesting thing was that I had a file (.m2ts) from my Sony HD camcorder, and that played back very well, so I could quite easily store and playback my unedited home movie footage using the PS3 - HD encoding takes ages to do, so why not just playback the original? (File size being the obvious issue with FAT32).
Anyhow, I'm digressing, I think the PS3 has lots of potential, it's just that AppleTV does 'what it says on the tin' much better, and AppleTV obviously still has untapped potential to be even better than it is now.

  • Qosmio X500-148 freezes from day 1

I just bought a X500-148. Started freezing from day 1. I thought it was the sharescope software I was using. However the vendor tells me the software has no issues, so I began to suspect it was my 1800 quid X500. I updated all the drivers, but it still would freeze intermittently. Then one day I powered it down and it froze whilst in the power down mode and I had to remove the power cord and battery to fully switch it off.
After this, it would often not even go through the boot process. When it did boot up and load windows, I tried the re-install windows to earlier date option. Needless to say it froze during the middle of this and so windows 7 is now also totaly corrupt and knackered.
I have been told by an expert it has to be the Toshiba hardware, i.e. the laptop itself as the fact it was freezing during booting means it could never have been windows or any of the software. To my horror I checked out the web site here and find Toshibas idea of service is to return it to PC World and let them fix it. They collected my laptop on the 23 December but have lost it. I have spent hours on the phone on a 0844 rate number to no avail.
Im back on the Toshiba web site trying to find a email address to write and complain to. Guess what, I cant even seem to find an email address for the computer division.
Had I known Toshibas idea of service is to return it to the Dixons cowboys to fix, I would never ever have bought it. I doubt I will ever see the lap top again, I put a load of expensive software on it and also I had down loaded 11 hours of family video which i was in the middle of edditing. Hours of work and expense all seem to be up in smoke now.
Its early days, but I rather suspect I am going to regret this purchase.
If anyone has an email address for Toshiba in the UK, please let me know, I wish to repeat the above but in more detail to them.

Another update no joy. After establishing this was fault which i first reported to them on the 16th Dec, now many more times / hours wasted on the 0844 number, I have established its actually the 64GB SSD disk they want to replace, but they claim they dont have one and cant get hold of any to fix the fault.
This Toshiba laptop aside from being faulty from day 1 and the worry caused (Claiming the PC was lost, then later claiming the disk with my data is defective) is a real big problem now. I've now been without a laptop for over 1 month now and its starting to interfere with my work I am unable to do on it.
I am trying to get PC World repair department to return the PC so I can recover the disk drive with my data on it myself. I will then begin the process to take Toshiba / PC World to task in order to cover my expenses and losses and buy a new laptop obvoulsy of a different brand.
I was thinking DELL because I understand that is a manufacturer that actually deals with its customers and indeed if service or repair is needed undertakes such work themselves. (my reasoning that you are then dealing with the organ grinder rather than the monkey). What do other people think?

I recently formatted my computer.  In other words, I'm not using too much memory of my HD.  My Memory Ram is 8GB.

A week before logic X comes out it starts bugging out... i deleted a bunch of stuff on my HD and cleaned up everything... didnt fix anything... then logic x came out and I though oh i better update that will fix everything... and im still having the same problems... its rediculous.
Umm,, no offence... but what is ridiculous...  is you didn't troubleshoot the original problem but instead you assumed it was a LP9 problem so you updated to LPX which is still in its early days and is likely to be less stable than LP9... rather than more so!
    So.. Here's the thing....
LP9 was working fine and then stopped working normally according to you. Therefore what changed at the time LP9 stopped working normally?
Here are just a few ideas to think about.. for around the time this started..
Did you update Logic Pro 9... OS X... Drivers for Midi/Audio or other connected devices?
If you did, did you then restore from a backup you made prior to these problems occuring and what happened when you did so? (assuming you do make backups of your system?)
Did you install any new Apps on your Mac?
Did you add a new Hard Drive? How is it formatted?
Did you start recording or creating music in a different way to how you used to before the problem started?
Have you started using a different SI or FX plugin or plugins.. More or different FX for example.. Did you install a new version of a plugin?
Is all your software legal? (Have to ask because some people install all kinds of illegal plugins and whatever else.. and have no idea how the 'cracks' work or what they might affect/mess up/conflict with in the process)
Have you looked at the System logs to see if anything is happening out of the ordinary when you get these messages?
Have you looked at OS X's Activity monitor to see if any app or routine is kicking in hard when you get this issue?
Basically, you need to think about and look for what changed... because something apparently changed to suddenly cause these issues...given you said you didn't have them until a certain timeframe and some of the questions above, I hope, will get you thinking..
....and maybe a few of the others here will come up with other ideas and suggestions to help you...
Good luck and let us know how you got on...

  • Using Max Earliness

I have a situation where we are planning both the Finished Good and the WIP associated with the FG.  The Wip needs to be manufactured the day prior to the packout of the finished good.  We have set a GR Time on the WIP at 1day.  There is also a Max Earliness of 26hrs on the WIP.  The WIP has a Fixed Pegging to the FG order
Here's the issue...when a FG order is moved to an earlier day or time the WIP moves with it.  However, when the order is moved out, the WIP is not moving with the order.  Therefore the thinking here is that the Max Earliness isn't working.
    Any thoughts are appreciated.

    Hi,
We have simliar scenario and max earlieness is equivalent to 365 days but still i am able to schedule SFG and FG orders at the same time as in PDS we have continous input/output.
Please check your DS strategy profile - Consider fixed pegging and Consider Dynamic pegging.
    It will work.
    Let me know the results.

  • What do early adapters think about the Pre (and Palm in general) now?

So, CES 2010 has come and keynotes have been made.  For those of us who have been though the early days when EAS Pin lock wasn't supported, running into application install limits, finding peace within Preware, Fair Dinkum and File Coaster today couldn't come fast enough.
As I race though the streets in "Need For Speed: Underground" on my Pre (my very first purchased application), I actually feel that Palm may indeed be back in the running.  Is it too little, too late?  I don't know.  All I know is that for the first time in the last five months, I don't feel like swapping out my Pre for an Android device, I don't feel like the iPhone is completely immovable from it's perch and I sure as heck won't feel odd about showing anyone (especially iPhone owners) the games I have installed!
It's still early but what I've seen so far I like.  I'm actually excited to see what more can be accomplished with WebOS and Palm.
Any other thoughts from my fellow early adapters (not-so-early adapters are welcome to comment as well!)?

Very excited in what Palm has accomplished in so short a time. I've remained much more positive than you seem to have become prior to CES, but I'm definitely as excited after. Maybe more so.

  • FIRMED EARLY PO excpetion message, fields meaning and resolution - STRANGE?

    Hi,
by viewing exception type ORDER IS FIRMED EARLY over Purchase Order, we would like our Buyer to modify the PROMISE DATE according to ASCP needs.
This exception type give as info the field DAYS EARLY = "the number of days (working days?) by wich the firm supply is late according to the UEPST calculation" (ASCP guide).
We also have the fields DATE, and NEW DATE.
What's appening is that ASCP says:
item x, order numer yyyy ORDER IS FIRMED EARLY, DAYS EARLY = 14
    NEW DATE= 8 nov 2007 (today), TO DATE = 29 nov 2007, DOCK DATE = 23 nov 2007.
Note that the Purchase order referred is for quantity 60 pcs, promised arrival 23 NOV, Sugg Due Date = 29 NOV ( as we've 4 days of post proc Lead Time), Firm and it's FULL pegged to a sales order of a finish good REQUESTED FOR 7 NOV 2007 but with DUE DATE 11 DEC, as we're going late.
WHY THIS ORDER IS "FIRMED EARLY"? IN WHAT SENSE? WHAT DOES THE DATES reported in the Exception message means?
    IN CONCLUSION:
WATH'S THE ACTION THAT MUST FOLLOW AFTER THIS EXCEPTION MESSAGE??? WATH A BUYER HAVE TO DO??
We've a lot of this exception message in our plan!!!
    Thanks in advance,

  • Apple Watch running accuracy

Curious to hear about other's early day experience with Apple Watch while running.  Results for me, relative to what I've seen using other devices or apps, are a bit all over the place.
For example, for a 7 mile run in 60 minutes for a 41-yr old male, 6'0 185 lbs:
    - Strava:             ~1000-1050 calories burned, avg heart rate ~ 140-150bpm (outdoors)
    - Life Fitness:     ~1000 calories burned (on a treadmill)
    - Nike+:              ~ 900-950 calories burned (outdoors)
    - Apple Watch:     690 calories burned, avg heart rate 190-210bpm (this is on a 'Run Outside' setting)
As an aside, I also tried it with Insanity for a 42-minute Plyo workout and only burned around 350 calories, which I could just about do walking (and break a much lighter sweat).
What are others seeing, and are there tricks to improve accuracy?  Thanks.

It is possible you are comparing apples to oranges. The “Workout” app reports active calories burned. The “Activity” app displays both the active and resting calories burned during the workout. The total calories burned during the workout will include both the resting and active calories. It's likely that the other devices you used include both. I assume the 690 calories you report are just the Active calories.
One example: I walked a 5.1 mile route at 4.3 mph and the workout app says I have burned 451 calories, but the Activity app also includes 130 calories of resting, for a total of 581 calories. I used an online calculator that uses my height, weight and age and it estimates I should burn 517 calories. The online calculator doesn’t use my heart rate or the elevation change during the walk, so it should be less accurate. The walk has an elevation gain of 600’, so it is logical that my calorie burn should be more than the online calculator. The watch appears to be fairly accurate in this example.
I have made this same walk four times using the watch and it has been within 6 calories each time… very precise!  My walking speed ranged from 4.1 to 4.3 mph on the four walks. I also have made two 6.3 mile hikes (with a 1300’ elevation change) and the watch calculated a total (resting plus active) of 850 and 828 calories (also quite close). The 850 burn was at a faster pace with a 128 bpm heart rate, compared to 115 bpm for the lower calorie burn, so the difference in the calories seems about right.
I put your statistics in the same calculator and it estimated a 966 calorie burn for your run (again, no heart rate info). I assume the 690 calories you report are just the Active calories, so that would require 276 resting calories to make up the difference. I am about the same height/weight as you and my resting calories for an hour would be a little over 100 calories, so 276 seems a little high. However, I am over 20 years older than you with a 50 bpm resting heart rate, so your resting calories would likely be higher due to your younger age (and possibly a higher resting heart rate). Given all this, I would say the watch may be slightly low in your case (assuming the online calculator is accurate), but the watch still seems more accurate than the other devices (assuming the 690 is only the active calories).
The only other thing that seems odd is the heart rate during the run… it seems very high. Do you think it is accurate? Are you using the “Power Saving Mode” in the Workout app? You can check this on the Watch app (on the iPhone) and look under the Workout app settings. The Power Saving Mode still measures your heart rate, but is less accurate than the default mode.
The most accurate way to measure calorie burn requires measuring your oxygen consumption, which has a direct relationship to calories. The Watch/iPhone (and all your other devices) use indirect methods to estimate calories. In general, a device that use heart rate, distance and elevation should be better than a device that only counts steps. However, I don’t really care if the results are completely accurate, as long as they are consistent. I simply want to be able to compare one workout with another. The Apple Watch has proven to be VERY consistent in my experience so far.
