Early iMacG5 1.8 Ghz got really hot!

Hi everyone! I came home last night and the whole house smelled like an electrical fire. Come to find out my iMac was the culprit. the machine was off but yet the back of it was real hot. I hit the power button and the machine booted up fine. I turned it off and remove th back cover to find nothing but the smell. All the caps looked ok, not flash marks anywhere, or fried circuts on the logic board. I believe this is a power supply issue...what do you guys think? Does anyone know if apple cover this model in the enxtension program or is it just for the 20" version? Thanks for the help! Eric

Here's what Apple's Repair extension programs cover. In any case, take your machine in and have it checked out, electrical fires are not fun. It could well be the power supply, but don't take any chances.

No. You probably should have backed it up while it was working during those 6 days...

  • Curve 8530 Got Really Hot

My 8530 was bought in March of this year.  About a month ago the phone got really hot to the touch and died.  I was given a new battery under warranty, but it just happened again.  My phone was replaced with a re-furb.  That second phone just did the same thing this weekend.  What is wrong with the 8530 that is causing it to heat up like this?

Is this occuring while charging or what? Where is the phone at the time?
I know these batteries do NOT like heat above (roughly speaking) 115+ degrees fahrenheit.
They don't charge well in that kind of heat, the battery drains quicker in that high heat.

  • Lightning cable got really hot. Can it ruin my iPod Touch?

Hello, yesterday I connected my iPod Touch and the lightning cable got really really hot and I was so scared... It's not in a perfect state and there are no apple stores in my city... Sooo until I can buy a new cable I want to know if it's dangerous to keep using the lightning cable I have.
Something else... When I used to connect my iPod to my laptop (Windows 7) I could acces the photos like I could acces the data from a external drive or a flash memory (just for the photos) but now I can't. What's wrong with it?
ps. Sorry if my english isn't perfect, it isn't my first language.

I would stop using it until you can get a replacement. There's no way of knowing if it's really bad or not, but if it damages your device you may be stuck.
It's possible that you photo access issue is part of the cord not working right so I'd wait and see if the issue persists after you get a new cable.

  • 5S got really hot

I wasn't charging my 5S and all of sudden it got very hot.
What is going on with my phone? Blue screen, black screen... etc.

Is the problem that your device is getting hot? Or are you only seeing a black / blue screen?
If the device is just hot, that is normal (I have a 5S and it gets very hot when I charge / use it to watch videos).

  • What do i do?, my ipod got really hot and shut off and now i cant get it to come back on what do i do?

my ipod got reallly hot and turned off but now it wont come back on.what do i do?

You can try the standard fixes to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory defaults./new iPod
However, from your description you like have a hardware issue and an appointment a the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • IPhone got really hot

I was just walking with my iPhone and turn on iPod and the screen switched off, I've tried to turn on iPhone, but he doesn't turn on but the top part of iPhone became really HOT, like +60 +70C. I can't even hold the phone in my hands for the top part. Power button really HOT probably +80C. The main problem that I can't take out the battery and today in Sunday and I'm in the middle of Russia. There is no Apple service at all.

Well, my screen went black, but I don't know if iPhone is turned off, there is no signs if the screen is dead you can't figure out if the power is on or off. Looks like in Apple they don't think that there should be a light indicator of power.
Anyway, the phone is still hot, but cooling down. Thats makes me feel better, I thought that it's will explode.

  • Itouch 4g in facetime got really hot at the top and then the screen changed to a very light blue.  I restored it and checked for updates, but the screen is still messed up and the itouch gets very hot.  This came on very fast.

Can't get the screen back to normal mode after restoring it, and it still gets very hot at the top when using it in any mode.  Any suggestions?

  • My phone got really hot while charging, why?

Woke up this morning and grabbed my phone off my bedside table only to find that it was hot, and I mean hot. It was too hot to even use. It wasn't on a hot surface or in use- it was just charging on my table. I tried to click it on and a yellow triangle showed up that said "Temperature Alert". Again, it was not in use or on a hot surface but rather indoors in the AC idle. Anyone know why this happens, if this is dangeous, or what I should do?

It is very dangerous if the battery its self swells up.
    It can explode.

  • Macbook Pro 2011 getting really hot?

I have an early 2011 macbook pro 15" monitor.  Lately, I haven't been able to even touch the bottom of my laptop because of how hot it gets.  Here's the temperatures and fan:  Right now, it's cool enough to pick up, but about twenty minutes ago the computer got really hot and the fans didn't sound like they were on very high (this was before I downloaded the widget to see the actual values). I was also only using Chrome, no other apps. I started to notice this when I started using facetime: the fans suddenly didn't spin like crazy when the temperature rose.  Is there any fix/tip/help for this?  I will try and update once I get the higher temperature to appear again.

    Hi t,
You can try an app such as SMC Fan Control which will allow you to set the fans to the speed of your preference.

My Touch gets hot too, but when it syncs, or when i charge it and use the internet. Plus, mine is in a leather case, so it`s normal, and it never got so hot ... It may be two things.
    1) Your glasses are scratched by the Apple Logo, which is pretty abrasive ( best case scenario )
    2) Your battery shorts out. This is pretty bad, unprobable but fixable, that`s if ... you don`t burst in flames. Jk :P
You should take it to the Apple Store, it can`t be out of warranty, the iPod Touch came out in autumn last year.
Good luck, and hope this has helped.

  • Am worried.  New iPad 3 gets really hot.  My first iPad never got hot.

I had an iPad 1 for a long time.  It never got hot and also, it charged up quickly.  Recently I purchased a new iPad 3.  This iPad gets really hot and also seems to take an awful long time to recharge.  Thoughts?

There is no escaping the engineering principles involved. Twice the battery capacity means twice as long to charge with the same 10W charger. Since the battery life remains the same at about ten hours, doubling the battery capacity also means that twice as much heat will be dissipated over that period of time. In simple terms "it gets hotter".
Or, you don't get something for nothing.
