Earned Value with Project Web App 2013?

Hi folks,
Earned Value in Project Client is quite fine, the choice of calculate against actual or status date is a nice feature. But using Project Web App I lack the option of setting the status date - is EVA in Project Web App 2013 really restricted to the actual
date? Or is the status date set automatically by approved task updates?
Thanks
Olaf

Hi Olaf,
Unfortunately the status date cannot be set from PWA, and there is no automatic update behind. The intent is that the PM updates the status date and the tasks in MS Project Pro and the team members and executives can consult EVA from PWA.
Hope this helps,

  • SharePoint 2013 cannot view PDF documents in mobile browser with office web apps

    Hi,
I'm receiving the following error when viewing SharePoint 2013 PDF documents in a mobile browser after clicking on the filename:
"Viewing of .pdf files has been disabled in Microsoft Word Mobile Viewer. Please get in touch with your helpdesk."
    My Question
Is viewing PDF documents in mobile browsers with Office Web Apps SP1 actually supported?  If so, how can I enable it?  I've already have pdf viewing working in non-mobile browsers. Word documents open just fine on mobile browsers too.
I'm getting conflicting answers for pdf mobile viewing support from various sources:
You've got Microsoft toting that they've added in PDF viewing on any device for Office Web Apps
    http://blogs.office.com/2013/07/03/pdfs-in-the-word-web-app/
A MS support person saying saying it is not supported
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/office_web_apps_server_2013_support_blog/archive/2013/12/31/enabling-pdf-previews-in-document-libraries-with-office-web-apps-2013-in-sharepoint-2013-open-link-does-not-work-from-preview.aspx
Another person implying that it should work because you can disable pdf browsing for mobile browsers only
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/office_resource_kit/archive/2013/07/24/control-whether-pdfs-open-in-word-web-app-or-the-default-pdf-reader.aspx
    What I've tried
When I started looking into this there was a mobile WOPI entry:
    Application     : WordPdf
    Extension       : PDF
    ProgId          :
    Action          : mobileView
    IsDefaultAction : False
    ServerName      : 20SP8
    WopiZone        : internal-http
I tried experimenting with tweaking this binding by changing the DefaultAction to true, and even removing it altogether via:
    Get-SPWopiBinding -Action "MobileView" -Application "WordPDF" | Remove-SPWopiBinding -Confirm:$false
But I still get the same message.
I removed all the WordPdf bindings and re-added them via:
New-SPWOPIBinding –ServerName "<myserver>" –Application "WordPDF" -AllowHTTP
No dice.  In fact the mobileview binding doesn't even come back... but I guess that is a different issue altogether.
    Version
    SharePoint 2013 (SP1)
    Office Web Apps Server (SP1)
    Farm Setup
    Internal facing only
2 front end servers, 1 app server, 1 office web apps server

I think the PDF support, if it exists, in only in Office 365. Always remember that the Office 365 and on premises versions will never be in sync. On premise is updated using periodic service packs and Office 365 has continuous updates. (I've heard every
    10 days.)
In my Office 365 / IE 10 tests, the PDFs open in the browser's default PDF viewer, in my case FoxIt Reader. So I can't prove one way or the other about support in Office Web Apps.

  • Office Web Apps 2013 - Word app not working on Sharepoint 2013 but Excel does

    Hi there!
We had some problems with Office Web Apps 2013 not working with Lync, and the status of OWA was unhealty so we decided to install some updates for OWA.
We have downloaded November 2013 update for OWA.
We found out a guide for putting updates on OWA and done this steps:
    * Remove-OfficeWebAppsMachine
    * Installed the november update
    * Restarted OWA server
    * ran: New-OfficeWebAppsFarm -InternalUrl https://owasrv.domain.local -ExternalURL
    https://owasrv.domain.local -CertificateName "certname" -AllowHttp  -EditingEnabled
    * Restart-Service WACSM
    - checked in IIS in the bindings if the site useses the correct certificate
Then we went on Sharepoint 2013 and ran some commands:
    * Remove-SPWOPIBinding –All:$true
    * New-SPWOPIBinding -ServerName owasrv.domain.local
    * Set-SPWOPIZone –zone “external-https”
Now here are the funny things:
    * Excel word app on Sharepoint 2013 works
    * Word APP not working (screenshot)
    * Lync 2013 powerpoint still not working (screenshot)
    * status of OWA is healthy

    Hi,
The Friendly name field must be unique within the Trusted Root Certificate Authorities store.  In -CertificateName, enter the friendly name you gave your
    certificate earlier.
Validate the configuration by navigating to the discovery URL of the Office Web Apps server.  Like
    https://xxx/hosting/discovery
Meanwhile, the issue is related to Lync, I recommend to you to post the question on Lync Server for further discussion via the link below.

  • Office web apps 2013 March update 2013....pdf preview

the web application is configured as permissive.
    I did the following
    Remove-OfficeWebAppsMachine
    updated with the march 2013.
restarted the office web apps 2013 server.
    New-OfficeWebAppsFarm -InternalUrl "https://owa.domain.com" -ExternalUrl "https://owa.domain.com" –CertificateName "*.domain.is" -EditingEnabled
    New-SPWOPIBinding –ServerName "OWA.domain.is" -Application WordPDF
    word / excel preview works
    (Invoke-WebRequest
    https://wac.contoso.com/m/met/participant.svc/jsonAnonymous/BroadcastPing).Headers["X-OfficeVersion"]
    gives an error
PDF does not open in browser.
The updates in January were installed automatically.
    Is that maybe the problem?
    I have seen this:
    http://www.wictorwilen.se/sharepoint-2013-enabling-pdf-previews-with-office-web-apps-2013-march-2013-update

Is it not working only for PDF files? I only used the zone external-https as an example so please confirm that you set the right binding. After all applications have the correct binding you need to create a result type for PDFs:
Site Settings > (Search) Result Types and then finding the PDF Result Type. Choose to Copy the Result Type.
Give the new Result Type an appropriate name, “PDF with Preview” for instance. Then scroll down to Actions and in the “What
should these results look like?” drop-down, choose to use the Word Display Template.

    pls. help.
The pop up error msg. is "Sorry, you don't have access to this page"

    Hi,
According to your description, after you cleared job queue about force check-in then you can't access some pages in PWA.
Maybe you need to check in the pages which has been checked out.
If you have administrative rights, it is possible to override the check-out via the View All Site Content page:
Site Actions->View All Site Content->Pages->Hover the item you want to check in, and from the context-menu (arrow-down next to the filename), choose "Discard Check Out"
Besides, to troubleshooting the error “Sorry, you don't have access to this page”, refer to the following articles:

In addition, as this issue is related to project server, I suggest you create a new thread on project server, more experts will assist you:

  • Office Web Apps 2013 with SharePoint 2013 Server

    Hi All,
I have installed a separate server for Office Web Apps 2013 on Windows Server 2012 VM. I have followed TechNet's article on
Deploying Office Web Apps Server & exactly followed steps.
On SharePoint Server 2013 (Windows Server 2012), I followed TechNet’s article on
Configure Office Web Apps for SharePoint. The Office Web Apps on SharePoint 2013 environment works for
Excel document that shows “View in Browser” but
    no Preview.
However, PowerPoint and Word documents doesn’t show “View in Browser”. I thought Internet Explorer 10 has some issue with Office Web Apps and checked on Chrome and results were same.
On SharePoint Server 2013 environment, I have configured 3 services applications, MMS, UPS and Excel Service.
1.) Do I need any other service applications to be enabled for OWA 2013?
    I read number of blogs,
Installing Office Web Apps Server for SharePoint 2013 (Steve Mann),
Install Office Web Apps 2013 with SharePoint 2013 (Max Melcher) and Spence Harbar
(Enabling Office Web Apps Preview editing with SharePoint 2013). and all these blogs give more or less same steps that I have followed.
Strange thing is that Excel documents on my SharePoint 2013 sites are working but neither word or PowerPoint documents are not showing option for “View in Browser”.
I am using HTTP and not HTTPS.
    2. Can someone please advice how could I solve the Office Web Apps 2010 on Word and PPT?
    3. How to can enable preview for Excel, Word and PPT documents.
    Thanks you.

    Hi Inderjeet and Olafur,
    Thanks for your reply.
@Inderjeet: That site collection feature on SP2010 works on our production environment but on SP2013 site collection there is no OWA feature. Microsoft recommends to have a separate OWA2013 server and what I create
a separate VM for OWA2013 server.
@Olafur: Your suggestion looks spot on. The OWA server does show the discovery:
Our SP2013 development server has limited RAM (4GB) and it think is causing the issue.
Let me check if increasing RAM solves the issue.
Thanks again for your suggestions. (Interjeet and Olafur).

  • Open Documents with Office Web App - SharePoint 2013

We have configured Office Web App for our SharePoint 2013 Farm and in Site settings, Site Collection Features,  have disabled "Open Documents in Client Applications by Default" . Out of 15 sites, all documents in 13 sites open in Office
Web App. One of the 2 sites where the document still open using Client Application is a Wiki site.
Advanced propertied for the libraries settings has been set to "Use the server default (Open in the browser)". Anything else to check to open documents in Office Web App?
    Thanks
    MP

    Hi,
As I understand, you encountered the issue when you want to open documents with Office Web App.
    Check things below:
    1. In the library setting->advanced setting, you can choose the open in the browser to see if the same situation will occur.
    2. Check if you have not enable the Open Documents in Client Applications by Default feature.
If you choose Activate to enable the Open in Client feature (documents will open in the client application), or
Deactivate to disable the Open in Client feature (documents will open in the browser).
You can go to Site setting->site collection administration->site collection feature->Open
Documents in Client Applications by Default to set the feature.
The article below is about how to set the default open behavior for browser-enabled documents.

  • Can we leverage the functionality of the Project Web App along with SP2013?

    Hi,
    Could you please help?

If you're talking about Project Web App on your SharePoint 2013 on-prem environment, yes you can, but you must install Project Server to each SharePoint server in the farm, then create Project Server Service Application.

  • How many enterprise projects we can create in a single project web app site in project server 2013 enterprise?

I have MS SharePoint 2013 Enterprise and MS Project Server enterprise installed in the same server,
I have created project web app site
can anyone tell me that how many enterprise projects I can create in a single Project web app site
what is the recommended number of enterprise project per project web app

As I remember each project site is a sub site in a project Web app site collection.  That means you can have a maximum of 250,000 project sites before you run out of space in the site collection.  That's the boundary for sub sites in a single
site collection for SharePoint 2013.  Project server doesn't have a specific limit.

  • Can Project Web App track output produced rather than time spent?

Hi -- I understand how team members can track the amount of time that they've spent on different tasks using Project Web App.  However, what I really need to keep track of is how much they've produced, rather than how much time that they've spent on
    it.
For example, I would like each team member to be able to give me a weekly report that says:
    # of sparkly blue widgets completed:  10
    # of pink matte widgets completed: 15
    # of beige widget accessories: 50
I don't care how long it took them to make any of the widgets or widget-related items.  I just want to know how many each team member made in a week. Right now we do this in Excel, but I would love to figure out a way to make some sort of form in PWA
where they could just enter their numbers.
    Is that possible?
    Thanks

    Hi,

  • Sorry, something went wrong - Open Office File from Search Results Page with Office Web Apps

    Hi,
I'm getting "Sorry, something went wrong" error when I'm trying to open any office document from inside Search Results Page with Office Web Apps, the same error is appearing in the document preview as well.
The error in SharePoint logs says that the file cannot be found.
Please note that this error is coming only when the "Filename" of the document is not written in English (in my case its written with Arabic characters).
If I try to open it from the document library, its opening properly with no errors.
    The only difference between two URLs (document URL in Search Results and in Document Library) is the value for "sourcedoc" attribute;
In the case of Search Results page, the filename in "sourcedoc" attribute is kept as is with Arabic characters.
While in the Document Library, the filename in "sourcedoc" attribute is converted into different characters (something like: "B9%D9%85%D9%8").
Anybody have an idea on how to overcome this issue, implement a workaround or modify the "sourcedoc" behavior?
    Thanks in Advance.
    Hamza AlSughier

    Dear Wendy,
Thanks for your efforts, I already tried your last suggestion before, but this didn't solve my problem.
Actually my end users are accessing this portal using ADFS and HTTPS.
Finally I got this solved, I have done below to get my overall solution working perfectly:
    - First I have configured Windows Authentication and ADFS Authentication on the same zone which is the default zone.
    - The issue when opening office documents with Arabic file name has disappeared as a result of first change.
    - Then I have faced an issue where we are not able to crawl content under Default zone, however we have to do so, after too many efforts, I found that its related to the Load-balancer/proxy, I have made the crawler server
    to crawl himself (http://CrawlServerName:PortNumber).
    - Also a change on Alternate Access Mapping was needed, I have set one of the extended zones (which is running Windows Authentication only) as Internal URL for the Default Zone, and this is was the URL I used for Crawling.
I have configured Server Name Mappings to make sure we got proper URLs in Search Results.
    - Then we faced another issue, which is Authentication selection on login page (How to bypass this page, and authenticate using ADFS auto), I used this solution (Set Custom Sign In Page):
    http://0ut0ftheb0x.wordpress.com/2014/01/04/skip-the-authentication-selection-page-at-_logindefault-aspx-in-a-mixed-authentication-environment/.
    - I faced one more issue as a result of above workaround; Sign Out functionality wasn't working well; users get logged in automatically whenever I click on Sign Out. I solved this by modifying the "Sign Out" Control under _layouts;
I made it to redirect users to ADFS Sign Out Page instead of SharePoint Sign Out Page (I know its not recommended, but I don't have any other option).

  • Access to Project Web App

I have installed Project Server 2013. The issue is only a single user given access to PWA through project web app service application has access to the site. Even my account, that is the farm admin account has a full access right to web application that
hosts PWA is not able to log in to the project site while normal sharepoint sites i have access.
Is it by design or i am doing something wrong?
    sachin

You need to add the users through project server permission by granting them access to the Project Server which will enable them to log on, this can be done dependent on security mode you have
Check this on how to add users
