Earphone Distortion.

Hi.
So I bought my iPod Touch 16GB about a year and a half ago & i also bought a 3 year warranty . i haven't updated it to 3G yet.
About a day or two ago, my earphones started to have problems such as the voice of the song gets all funny . When i fiddle around with the earphone plug and the jack the sound returns to normal. I'm wondering if its my earphones that need a replacement or is it the earphone/headphone jack that needs fixing.
my ipod touch has been pretty ok, once the home screen button stopped working but i got that problem solved. about a month or so ago, my original headphone stopped working so i exchanged it for a new one which looked a bit different than the old one but i figured that it was no big deal.
can someone please help me? this ipod touch means a lot to me ! thank you !

I noticed this on my first phone. I haven't had the 2nd phone long enough to comment but hope the problem is resolved.
I think it's a matter of most of us having to max out the volume which may cause clipping. I'm holding out confidence that this is going to be fixed.

  • Earphones distorted after I updated my iPad3 to 7.0.6 from 7

I updated an iPad3 WiFi to 7.0.6 but after the upgrade the hedphones sound distorted (to loud and only in one channel). I updated my iphone 5 also and the earphones sound just fine there. Prior to the update the earphones sounded fine on the ipad 3. Using some SONY noise canceling (No mic).

    Try reset all settings
    Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings
Note: Data will not be affected but settings for Wi-Fi, FaceTime, Message, Home Sharing will be reset

  • Two iPod issues

Bought this for my son and the unit has developed a couple of issues...wondered if you've had the same and did Apple repair the unit without a fuss.
The scroll wheel buttong work in all but the 'backwards' selection. It responds in perhaps 1 in 10 times it's pressed. Had a frustrating conversation with Apple moments ago and have now logged a repair entire unit request on their website.
    That's item 1.
Second issue is the earphones - my son has the noise limiter function switched on so his ear drums don't blow, but whatever the volume level the earphones distort. When you insert any other earphones the sound is fine, no distortion. Is this a common fault with these earphones?
    Thanks
    Paul

    Hi, welcome to Apple Discussions!
I think that if your iPod has a problem with the click wheel the only way is to go to your nearest Apple Store or as you already did, contact Apple Support.
Considering the second issue I had the same problem with my earphones (I had a 1st gen iPod mini). The solution was: I went to an Apple Store and I asked for support; they checked if my iPod was under warranty (it was) and so they have requested another pair of earphones directly from Apple... 3-4 days after I had my new earphones.
    Hope I was helpful, bye!

  • Music through earphones is distorted yet sounds fine from the speakers?

The music through iTunes comes through fine but when plugging in earphones, the music sounds distorted, distant, and sometimes not at all. This just started today when having used it so often before it never happened. How do I fix this?

OK, then that would appear to be the computer output rather than the headphones themselves. One thing out of the equation.
As a test, you might try reducing volume levels; or have a look in Audio MIDI setup and see if changing any of the settings there help.
Additionally, is this all the time or when something else is attached (either power cable or by USB, etc.); or is there any other device nearby?

  • Sound Distortion (without earphones) for IPod Touch 4g (16gb) iOS 6.1.3

    Hello,
I have a problem with one or more songs on my IPod Touch 4g iOS 6.1.3
Today I was listening to my music so I said why not I just update my music, add new info and add new music while I'm at it. So while I was doing that a song happened to come on that I liked so I decided to press repeat and continue doing what I was doing, so I just happened to look down at my IPod to see that some of the information on the song that I was listening to was incorrect. So I went into ITunes to correct the information while I was still playing the song, pressed sync then the next thing I knew when the song came back on it was distorted oh and I forgot to say all this happened (without) earphones, but anyway so when I heard that I deleted the song out of ITunes and re-synced my IPod to delete the song off of it, went back re-added the song back to ITunes and re-synced my IPod and it still sounds the same. Ok my problem isn't with the song it's self, my problem is I don't understand why when I play the song on other devices the song is ok and fine but when I play it on my IPod (without) earphones it's distorted and washed out but when I plug earphones in it's fine, and YES I DID reset my IPod and it's still happening and also when I play the song in ITunes on my laptop it's fine. Help!
P.S This has never happen before and It's brand new 1 month 1/2 old straight from APPLE.COM and also this song has been on here since I've had it so all of this is new and just happened today. 05/02/2013
    Thanks,

    - Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so.
Try the following to rule out a software problem
    - Check also Settings > General > Accessibility > Hearing. Make sure that the sound balance is not set all the way to "R".
    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. Seems you have a bad headphone jack.

From my limited knowledge the iPod Nano has no support for iCloud or wireless transfers- therefore the only means of downloading songs is by hooking it up to the computer by the white cable.

  • Music Distortion via Earphones

    Hello community,
Just yesterday, my iPhone 3G which runs on 3.1.2 played back distorted music.
The music echoes and sounds warped, and the artist lyrics become muffled. It's similar to only listening to an instrumental but in a distorted way.
I checked my EQ and sound check in the iPod settings, but everything looks normal and untouched.
    How can I fix this?
    Thank you in advance.

Could be slightly undersized jack plug on the Shure's, together with a not so forgiving jack on the iPhone. Do they work ok when wiggled? Not just a dirty jack plug on the Shure's is it, with a not very healthy spring contact on the iPod jack socket. Try cleaning the jack plug with a solvent, (wipe clean after though). Jack socket connections can be cleaned of sorts by repeated plugging/unplugging.

  • Distorted sounds in Windows 7 32 bit

    Hi...
I re-installed my system with (Dutch) Windows 7 32 bit and used the "Vista" driver CD for my SB X-fi Music card.
When I play MP3 or WAV files, the quality is reasonable, however, some sounds, specially vocals, are damped by the bass-tones.
When I play a CD in my Plextor 80SA dvd drive, I get a very distorted sound.
Doesn't matter if it is a burned CD or a original CD from the music store.
I think that the output from my DVD dri've is to high, but I don't know where I can change the output level.
Also tried the latest updated drivers for the X-fi card, but that has no change in the sounds, cd's are still distorted and basstones in MP3 and WAV damp the vocals and other instruments.
Don't know what to do...please, someone with advise?
    Grtz.

Using earphones, the same thing happens, the bass tones dampen other sounds.
I tested the speakers with the Creative Diagnostics application and there seems to be nothing wrong with them, even when I pump up the volume to 80 or 90% of the max volume there is no distortion at all in the speaker system.
I have ripped a CD and played the saved MP3 or WAV?files, they do the same as downloaded MP3 WAV files, bass tones dampen the other sounds. Sometimes the first two or three songs played, are all fine but then it slowly starts to happen... In other occasions, it happens immedaitely.
I have two identical dvd drives in my system (running on Windows 7 Ultimate) and used the second (hardly used) spare drive, also a Plextor 80SA, to play a legal bought CD and this one gives distorted sounds too! Volume doen't matter, by the way, distortion is also present on low volumes.
I must add to this that, when I was running Windows XP Professional with SP3 on my system, none of the above happened... It all started after re-installing my system with Windows 7 Ultimate.

  • Music is distorted

    Hello,
I was trying to update my music library yesterday after the uploads I made I wanted to listen the songs on my device (Iphone 4S) but the sound of music was distorted, I was hearing small overlaps.
I've tryed to Restart, it didn't worked, then I got into the forums and tryed all I've found (Reset = lock+home, restore network settings, restore settings) but none of these workd, so here I am asking for your help.
The problem is only in Music, no other player (youtube, soundcloud) was having this issue.
I am afraid to restore (delete) all the settings and content because I do have important notes and contacts.
Thanks a lot for your time,
    Adrian

Yeah sorry. by restarted I ment restored, and also
now that Ive been messing with it more I have noticed
is I have my headphones in listening it sounds fine
until I tip it one way or another instead of leaving
    it on a flat surface.
That seems like a problem with connections of the earphone jack inside the iPod.

  • Music is Distorted and Skips

I currently have the iphone 5 and my software has been udpated to 6.1.4. But the issue I am having is that, when I'm running or working out, my music would sound distorted and skips. This is the only time it happens. Any suggestions or ways to resolve this? Thank you so much!

Hi, I have the same issue, on MP3 and AAC almost can't notice, but using HE-AAC its very noisy.
My wife use the Ipod Nano (with touch) and the same song (excatly same source, because I shared the folder between different users on the computer) and the music plays perfectly.
ps.: I have tested using the same song, from same source and same compression and also the same earphones (that came with my ipod classic)
Its software a bug or hardware?

  • Updated driver produces distorted line-in au

I have an Audigy Z2, and it's worked fine for a long time. Occasionally I listen to radio or TV output through the PC headphones, via a stereo cable from the earphone output of the radio or TV to the line-in on the sound card. Quality's fine, and it coexists perfectly with game, video, or other sounds produced on the computer. Lately, trying to diagnose a CTD issue in a game, I updated the Audigy driver to one from October 2006 or so, the latest that Creative's site offers. Since then, when running a game using hardware sound, the line-in quality is severely distorted. I'm very disappointed by this, and I'm hoping you guys might have some ideas on what to do. I've repeatedly tried reinstalling the driver, performing a clean driver wipe and install, etc., and no go. Is this a problem with this driver? I have no competing sound drivers to my knowledge, and device manager doesn't show anything else besides the "Audio Codec" style entries which can't be disabled and don't seem like they would interfere. I've recorded a sample of this using audio from the weather channel. Right click, save, play. http://home.roadrunner.com/~jcrichman/sound_test.mp3?Around 3 seconds in, a game I started takes over the sound, or whatever it does, and you can hear the distortion start. The voice guy on the weather channel starts up at 3 seconds in, and you can really hear the distortion. At 38 seconds in or so, I've closed the game and you can hear the distortion go away. The remaining sound quality is perfectly normal; any remaining static or distortion is a result of either the weather channel audio or the sound quality of the mp3 file. Hopefully, you can hear that reverb-style distortion I'm referring to. Any ideas? For the record, I'm on Windows 2000 professional, I have 2 gb of RAM, in a 2.8ghz P4, with an ATI Radeon 9600. This problem is also not limited to the game. The one used for that sound test was Battlefield 2, but it happens pretty much on any game I can set to use Hardware sound.Message Edited by JBlitzen on 04-9-20070:27 AM

I've never had a setup like yours, but the problem does sound familiar. Maybe you could see what happens if you try disabling CMSS or CMSS2 in the Audio Console, just for curiosity's sake, though it probably won't help.
It definitely sounds like a driver issue from what you've said, and I'd try contacting support more directly if I were you, but good luck getting them to tell you anything but "we'll RMA it for you". And if they do offer a replacement, you should probably refuse unless you enjoy wasting time.
Wish I could be of more help.

  • IPod distortion issues following PC upgrade

I had to replace my PC in a hurry when the hard drive died, so bought a Packard Bell Windows 7 beastie. Yeah, laugh it up. The first time I synced my iPod (an 8GB second generation Nano, a little over three years old) everything worked perfectly, with no problems playing the transferred tunes. On all subsequent syncs, some of the transferred songs are peppered with distortion (random sub-second squeaking sounds, static and dropouts).
Now, I'm reasonably confident that the problem isn't with the MP3 files themselves, as they played fine on both iPod and iTunes with my previous machine and still sound fine through iTunes on my new machine. They're all 256kbps rips or higher. I'm also reasonably confident that the problem isn't with the configuration of my iPod (I don't use SoundCheck or any EQ) or my Etymotic earphones, as I get the same problems when my iPod's plugged into a hi-fi.
Things I've done to attempt to fix the issue:
Regressed from iTunes 9.0.2 64 bit to 32 bit version
Upgraded again from iTunes 9.0.2 32 bit to 64 bit version
Wiped all the tunes from my iPod and reloaded them, several times
Reset my iPod to the factory defaults and reloaded the latest iPod firmware (v1.1.3, IIRC)
Vague, possible causes that I doubt I could fix myself:
It's a hardware issue with my iPod, mysteriously occurring for the first time only four days after I replaced my PC
It's a problem with transferring the files between my new PC and my iPod
I only have access to one iPod and one PC, so trying a different version of either isn't an option in the diagnostic process.
If anybody has any similar experiences, thoughts or possible solutions I'd be delighted to hear them. Thanks!
