Earphone / sound-quality advice. Shuffle has no equalizer!

I actually find it painful to listen to an iPod without choosing either "increased bass" or "reduced treble" from the equalizer options. If I turn the volume up enough to get adequate bass and midrange for a workout, the treble is just piercing. When I bought the shuffle, I completely forgot about this fact, and since it took me over 2 weeks to get it to work (needed to get new usb port), it's too late to return it. First of all, is there any way to get iTunes to apply a certain equalizer setting to a playlist? I'm guessing not, but since you can do it on a per-song basis, you'd think it wouldn't be too much to ask. If not, I desperately need a pair of sports headphones that don't have such strong/harsh treble. I'm sure some of the in-ear phones would fit this request, but I'm reluctant use isolating phones for sports. I actually like the vertical style buds with a headband that Sony made popular. Any one have any particular advice? I don't consider myself a bass head at all; I'm just sensitive to treble. Thanks

Thanks. I wasn't able to do this for songs actually on the shuffle (get info is grayed out), but it is possible to do this for songs on a playlist. I haven't made a shuffle playlist yet, so my autofill just pulls from the library. I guess I could just equalize the entire library, but I'd prefer not to (since the treble problem is only with headphones). I probably will make a shuffle playlist, but what's on it is going to be changing all the time. Would be nice is you could just designate a certain equalizer setting for a playlist and then forget about it, but your response was helpful. Any sports earphones suggestions?
YES
highlight the songs on your shuffle and right click
then get info
set the equalizer and you can increase the volume
limit too

  • N81 Sound Quality (Earphones)

    I have being doing some test with the N81. Here are my findings;
    - N81 sound output via headset is low even if max volume n full equaliser settings are set with also stereo wideing on/off & loudness.
    - I tried different earphones in the N81 such as n91 earphones still sound quality low, & Sony ericsson W810i earphones sound quality abit loud due to bass in the earphones.
Is this a pure joke by Nokia or something? N95/N81/N81 8GB/N95 8GB/N76 have 3.5mm Audio Jack but the sound quality is pathetic with standard earphones.
However my Sony Ericsson K550i beats sound quality of the N81 even with its standard earphones.

  • Odd sound quality

Over the last few weeks, I've been noticing the sound quality in itunes has gotten strange. On certain songs it's almost like the sound mix of the song has changed. Like there are certain channels or instruments dropping out. It sounds like if you just took an entire guitar track out of a song. Very strange. I've looked through the forums dealing with sound quality and haven't really noticed anyone having a similar problem, however, I have tried some of the solutions offered to other sound problems.
I have turned off the sound enhancer as well as the sound check. I have turned the computer volume up and turned the itunes volume down. I have also deleted the plist eq file.
When I play these certain songs through quicktime, they sound fine, which makes me sure it is something having to do with itunes.
    Any thoughts? Thanks in advance!

ok, here's the latest. the "bad sound" sems to be getting worse as it is affecting more and more songs. the interesting thing i've found is that if i plug some headphones into the computer, the songs sound fine. could it be my speakers? (original usb soundsticks and isub). but then why would the songs sound fine through quicktime?
    to recap:
bad sound quality on certain songs (almost like channels are dropping out) in itunes.
the same songs sound fine when played through quicktime.
the same songs sound fine when played through itunes and headphones.
anybody? any thoughts or possible solutions? it bothers me so much that i am considering doing a clean re-install and starting over.

  • Shuffle 2nd Gen won't connect,  awful sound quality,

    Hi
I just tried to connect my ipod to my pc, the light flashed for three times, then it stopped. it was still charging, since it was getting hot, but it didn't show up in itunes or windows taskbar. I tried with different PCs and USB ports.
i tried to listen to it after that, but the sound quality became awful, like an FM station 200 miles away in a hilly area, and I can only listen to the right earphone, the left one was mute.
    Is it possible fix it?
    Thanks

If you have other Apple devices, connect ONLY the shuffle, with iTunes running.
If it's the only Apple device connected, and the shuffle is really not being recognized by iTunes, the heading DEVICES should not be in the iTunes sidebar at all (since iTunes sees no devices connected).  If you DO see DEVICES in the sidebar (with nothing listed below), the list of devices may be hidden.  When you move your mouse pointer over DEVICES in the sidebar, you should see a Show or Hide "toggle" to the right.  If that says Show, click it to show the list of devices.
If that does not help, since your shuffle is 2nd gen and you use a Mac, you can try running the iPod Reset Utility

  • Improve/extend equalizer and add 3D sound. Sound quality really poor.

I've been using the 2g nano for a while now and i must say the audio quality is really poor if compared with my 3 year old iRiver (which only has 256mb memory). Lots of people keep saying how great the sound quality is but i believe people saysing that just dont know any better. For those who do hear the difference the only satisfaction is the storage capacity.
The Equalizer is a big shock. People (even Apple fans) say its best to leave it off for improvement. Why ? because turned on the music gets heavily distorted. People even blame their earbuds. So people go off and buy a €40 earbud just for that extra bit of improvement which the nano should already provide with the nano itself.
So this is what should be done :
    - improve overall sound quality
    - add custom equalizer
    - add Xtreme 3D sound (= is a really big ++ iRiver users understand)

  • Has Apple addressed poor sound quality issues with new 160GB iPod classic?

I just bought a new 160GB iPod classic, replacing a perfectly good 80GB iPod Video (5.5), thinking that the newer one would be superior to my 3 year old model. I discovered that the sound of the new unit was flat and muddy compared to the older model. I found that the 5th gen iPod video was more "spacial", if that's an appropriate word to use; the bass was more present and more clearly defined, as was the rest of the sonic spectrum. I searched several forums to research this issue and while there were numerous references to this issue, all of the posts I found referred to the original iPod classics (80GB and 160GB) and not the later 120GB classics nor the new 160GB classics like the one I bought. Has Apple done anything to address this issue since the first classics were released or are the new ones still suffering from the same sound quality issues as the original classics?

Based on your observations here, they apparently have not changed the sound quality since the original 160GB classic. I noticed a clear narrowing of the sound stage (ambiance) between the 5.5G 80Gb and my 6G 160GB. You're describing the same characteristic. I don't own the newest 160GB version and came here today to see if it might have improved the sound quality back to the 5.5 spaciousness. Note that the 5.5G has a higher signal to noise ratio than the 6G, making it difficult for me to enjoy it through efficient balanced armature in ear monitors like the Shure SE530s or Ulimate Ears Triple.Fi 10s.

  • Has anyone else noticed the lack of sound quality with FaceTime in iOS 6, over wifi?

FT has lost much of its fidelity. It gates out all the noise, which I'm sure is supposed to be better, but now it's more like like a cell phone call. Sure the warmth of sound is better, but it cuts off breaths and sighs. All the things that make it so great when talking to your kids and family when traveling on the road.
If this was the cost of getting FT over 3G, it's not worth it.

Hi there, I have the same issue with FaceTime an ios6. When using it with iPhone 4 and 4s, the sound quality has decreased when compared to ios5. Background white noise is now reduced but low volume sounds (such as sights and whispers) are cut out too.
This is qualitatively not an improvement, and much of the warmth of former talks using FaceTime is now gone.
I do really hope there will be an answer from apple's side soon.
    Cheers

  • Sound quality has declined in ios8 & yosomite

Just swithched to ios8 & yosomite and I feel that the way it processes music  has dramatically deteriated.  Music really sounds thin and anemic no matter the genre.  Older ios & operating systems--firmware?--played music bettter.    Now that most of my music is in the cloud I do not use my ipod that often. Now I'm being forced to use my ipod. (i'm presently listening to my macbook and I am having the same issues. So I'm certain its the new sofware/firmware at fault. It is not the hardware.)
Any idea if Apple intends to address the sound quality issues in new updated firmware?

  • Has the sound quality improved with the new ipods?

i have a new 80 gig ipod that sounds much better then the one i bought 3 years ago.
did apple improve the sound quality?

The audio quality has improved as Apple have been using different processors in the newer 5G iPods. I have noticed an increase in quality, however, a lot of people have also said the quality has deteriorated but I believe its up to the individuals perspective.

  • The new 338S0987 chip from cirrus logic has inferior sound quality to the old cs42L61 chip.  Can the 338S0987 chip be improved?

The new 338S0987 chip from cirrus logic, used in the new 4s has inferior sound quality to the old cs42L61 chip found in the 4 and 3G.  Can the 338S0987 chip be improved?
The new chip is very compressed and has hissing artifacts.  It sacrifices sound quality for reduced energy consumption.  This is a problem for me because I am building a musical instrument app that is adversly affected by the new cirrus logic chip.  Audio fidelity is suffering.
Is there any chance for a software/driver tweak of this chip, or my I please request an improvement on the next iphone model?

  • TECRA A11 - low sound quality earphone to AUX

Tecra A11 provides *low sound quality* (iTunes) connecting with my hifi system *via earphone out to AUX* in. An Apple MacBook connected in the same way does much better. Any idea how could enhance the quality? Thanks in advance!

Hmmmmm...... have you tried to change sound settings, player equaliser?
Open control panel and check if there is Realtek sound manager (Realtek soundcard) and play a little bit with sound effects settings.

  • Recent update has resulted in poor sound quality

Recent update from apple has spoilt sound quality. Any one else have same problem

I had poor music sound quality, ect, after installing Update 7.1.1. Issue was resolved by holding down Homebutton and power on/off button simultaneously until Apple logo appeared. Sound quality now perfect from my mini iPad .

  • Nano 6G vs Shuffle 4G sound quality

    Hi all,
I have recent purchased a 4G shuffle for use at the gym and have noticed that the sound quality is pretty poor when compared to listening to the same material on my iPhone 4G.
As stated, I am using the same material at the same bit rate. I also realise that you are not going to get the same quality from a £40 product as you would from a product costing £430.
My question is, would switching to a 6G Nano provide any noticable improvement in sound quality over the Shuffle or would I just be paying for the additional features / better interface?
Many thanks in advance for your help. It would be much appreciated.
    Matt

Clearly not a crowd pleaser! Anyway, I found a Nano 6G on EBay for £63 so I figured that it was worth a punt and bought it.

  • IPod Shuffle vs Nano sound quality

    Hello.
I'm planning on buying the new iPod Shuffle. Is the sound quality the same as the latest iPod Nano?
    ~Matt

Haven't listened to latest (3rd Gen) nano but I do know that current shuffle sound quality is a bit less than that of 1st Gen shuffle and 1st Gen nano. But that's MY opinion, your experience may vary...
