Earphones stop working

I've had three pairs of earphones so far. The first pair was the worst of them all, with the rubber around the earphones falling apart and the sound on both earphones eventually becoming really tinny and difficult to hear. I got a new pair, but after a few months the volume in the right earphone suddenly dropped. The earphones I got after those, after just four months, have done exactly the same.
I think that unless Apple earphone are extremely crappy and I'm really unlucky, the fault must be in the iPhone, that somehow causes the earphones to break. Is this a known issue?

Are u just wondering or have a problem ??
Weather wondering or having problems just chek this
the wires of earphones should be straight not twisted and no cut or something like that shall happen
Even try to properly place into jack becoz in most cases people dont plug correctly and say that sounds nt cmg
well u can always use some other earphones apart from apple and you can also buy it out a new one

An iPhone's warranty is only valid in the country where it was originally sold.  You have to return it to that country for warranty service.

  • IPhone 3 buttons Earphones stopped working

My iPhone's 3 buttons earphone suddenly stopped working. I tried to reset it by holding sleep and home button from a few seconds, but still nothing
I didn't drop my iPhone 3GS at all, and there's no cracks neither.
It's very disappointing because I use these buttons a lot and now I have to take my phone out of my pocket to activate VoiceControl or change music.
Do you have any solutions/advices for me to resolve that issue?
    Thanks
    Tawfiq

OK. Called Apple Care. They were awesome. Sending replacement iphone thru Apple Care Advanced Replacement. Should arrive in one day.
Downside: Credit card charged 599.99 until old iphone is received by them.
    Upside: Never without phone.
If did not do Advanced Replacement then would have had to wait for shipping box to arrive. Send defective iphone in for repair or replacement (5-7 business days) with that box. Then the repaired or replacement iphone would have been shipped back to me. So I would have been without phone for 7-10 days.
Anyway. I guess I'm OK with this. All in all, good service, at least, so far.

  • Both iPod Touch and iPod Classic left side of stereosound stopped working

I have used my iPod Touch with Adidas Sennheiser earphones in the gym for 1+ years and suddenly
last week the left side of my earphones stopped working. I tried other earphones and still the left side didn't work
so I borrowed my dad's iPod Classic. The (Adidas) earphones worked fine for a week, but now suddenly the left
side stopped working again! This can't be coincidence.
Do you think that my earphones destroyed both my iPods? They both don't have warranty anymore...

First try the headphones in another device but first look at the plug for abnormalities that could damage the headphone jack in the iPod.
If confrmed that the headphnes work OK
    - Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so. There is a little switch in the headphone jack that disconnects the speaker when the headphone jack is inserted.
Try the following to rule out a software problem
    - Check also Settings > General > Accessibility > Hearing. Make sure that the sound balance is not set all the way to "R".
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. Seems you have a bad headphone jack.

If not under warranty Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for this price. They do not fix yours.

  • Hi, i have an IPod Touch 4g. One of the earphones just stops working after while,no matter how many times i replace them. What do i do?

Hi, i bought my IPod 4G about 7 months ago. After about a mont of buying them, one the earphones just stopped working which became extremely annoying..so i bought a new set of earphones and they worked well for about 5/6 months and then one of them stopped working as well. About 2 weeks ago, i bought a new set of earphones and now the right earphone of that has stopped working as well. The thing is, the earphone doesnt just stop working on my IPod, it also stops working on my laptop...and now i am very confused as to where the problem lies. I can't keep buying headphones every other week cos that is just too expensive and i dont know if the problem lies with my IPod or what! The same thing is happening to my sister's IPod as they were purchased at the same time. What do we do??

This previous discussion discusses the same if not similar problem.

  • Earphone buttons stopped working on multiple devices

    Hi,
So I recently purchased an iPhone 5 and the store gave me a pair of additional earphones with the deal. All new products. Earphones that came with the phone works fine across multiple devices and so did the extra pair, until earlier today.
When I plugged in the extra pair into my macbook, the volume/pause button suddenly stopped responding. Sound works perfectly fine but the buttons don't. After this happened I tried plugging the earphones back into the iphone and the issue remains. Even tried them with my old 3GS, same problem there. Original earphones still work flawlessly.
Why can this be? The earphones are new and the buttons worked fine until I plugged them into the macbook. Is there anyway I can "reset" these earphones?

    HI,
had the same problem.  Apparently the last segment of the jack controls the remote so it needs to be properly inserted.  I realized that I had somehow bent the jack so I just yanked it straight and it works fine.  Apparently another possibility is you have lint round the base you need to scrape off.  I don't think this is a technical os problem

It works with other iphones, but not mine. I've tried to use another piece of earphones and they just simply won't work on my iphone..

    Hey Jakob,
Try restoring the iPhone, if the issue persists it may need hardware repair.

Your iPhone has a one year warranty even without buying AppleCare. As long as the problem wasn't caused by damage you caused (e.g. dropping, water, etc) it should be covered. The following may help: https://www.apple.com/support/iphone/repair/

  • Anyone have trouble with ipod Nano earphone jacks stop working?

I have had 2 ipod Nano sice 2007 have earphone jacks that have sytopped working. My latest one was purchased in April 2010, and earphone jack stopped working 2 days ago. Anyone else had this issue?
    Thanks!!

I have done some experimenting and testing with my old Classic iPod that uses operating system 3.1.1. I don't think this operating system has changed. However, later generation iPods such as nano, shuffle that use a different operating system seem to work absolutely perfectly in my 2010 Lincoln Navigator, especially the ones without a hard drive (i.e. flash drive). My conclusion is that the Ford SYNC updates have somehow not been backward compatible with the older operating system. I know this can be attributed to Apple for part of the problem but I suspect that Ford somehow did not do enough testing with the older iPod operating systems. Turns out there are probably 7 or more operating systems on iPods and while you would assume that "backward compatibility" is a no-brainer, that seems not to be the case with second party vendors such as Ford SYNC. Personally, I have given up trying to solve this problem and have gone to flash drive and a "line in" option. My old Classic iPod works exceptionally well, plus I have a spare so I can probably use these thing till "H freezes over". Being a older retired American these things may actually last a life time!

  • Earphone and remote stopped working.

I have the earphones that come with the iphone 5s. I've had the phone for a little over a year and I opened the earphones a couple of months ago. They suddenly stopped working. This has happened with every pair of Apple earphones, I've purchased. I have the box. Would I be able to get new ones? The right ear doesn't work and the remote doesn't work either. Please help.

    Hi misty_saha,
Included Apple accessories carry the same coverage as the device they're included with, so if your iPhone is still covered under its Warranty or AppleCare plan, your headphones would be as well. For more information on coverage and service options if your earphones appear to be faulty, you may find the following page helpful:

  • Earphone microphone stopped working after IOS 6 update

As soon as I completed the updates on all my devices the earbud microphones stopped working!  The reboot fix does not work...obviously due to a bug in the update!  Anyone else having this issue?

I had this problem to so I called my network carrier O2 and the problem was when I updated using wifi it used my 3G data instead and used all my data up, apparently they don't charge you when you go over the limit but it runs super slow to a point you think it's stopped working. O2 gave me 1gig of data free to try it and its working fine now even better than ios5.1.1. Hope this helps

  • IPod Touch earphone jack stopped working.

The other day while traveling I was dumping some trash from my car into the trash can and actually dropped my iPod touch in. It was in there for about two minutes before I was able to find it and get it out. After cleaning it I turned it in and it worked fine. I plugged in my earphones and the left ear bud was not playing sound. I have to hold the bottom part of the earphones to the right in order to get sound to work in the left bud. I've checked the liquid indicator and, other than having some dirt on it it, was was white. So is there anything I can do to get the jack on the iPod? The earphones themselves work because I'm using them on my laptop.
    Any help will be appreciated.

I have poked around in it. I'm afraid if I poke anymore I'll screw something up and it will void my warranty.
