Earpiece not working_can't hear caller,
My earpiece isn't working. Cannot hear unless I switch over to speaker or plug in a headset. Any ideas on how to fix?
It may be stuck in headset mode. Try plugging and unplugging the headset several times. Check the headset jack for dirt and blow it out with canned com Essex gas (NEVER by mouth).

First of all, make sure that your iPhone as the most recent iOS available. Check in "Settings>General>Software Update".
One other problem could be your microphone. Does it work for anything else other than a call?

When i make call from iphone,loudspeaker is being enabled automatically and not able to hear any sound ..
And some time it's worked...OMG.....this very tiny hole located next to the headset jack........I suffered for the same issue around 20 days after purchasing my iPhone 4S. Even I visit the apple store too, they suggested to talk with apple online.....just before going to apple, i was reading "iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting" (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2802) and at the very first line, i found "Make sure that nothing is blocking the top microphone (located next to the headset jack)." and this located next to the headset jack solved the problem completely for sound in vidio as well as sound with calling speaker phone.....Actually, I purchased a plastic cover (like screen protector type) that blocked this small hole (microphone hole i think) and the problem was because of this...I remember on the first day i talk with speacker phone (nothing on iPhone at that time) and it was working...
No need to restore or hard reset anything...i was fearing i'll lost everything if I hard reset my iPhone that took 5-10 to build my iPhone as I like apps, music, vidio on it.... -

now reconnect to wifi
settings- wifi- click network name- enter password - join
if issue persists back up and restore as new via iTunes

The little lock has nothing to do with speaker volume. It means you have locked the rotation on your iPhone.
Have you tried using the volume control on the side of the iPhone to raise the volume when someone calls? -

My iphone 4 does not ring - the mute button is off - can hear calls coming in only by vibrate - cannot talk using speaker - no music not ringtones - It is not the mute button!
Sorry this took so long... This sounds hokey, but there is a sensor inside the headset jack on the iPhone that is sticking.
First; unplug the headset and try. Then, if does not ring still - do a reset with the headset out. Reset = hold the Home button and the sleep bottom on top at the same time until you see the Apple (ignore the slide to power off).
If this does not wor - here comes the hokey part... and you can take it by an Apple store at this point; anyway, use a tooth pick (wooden) and twigged it around in the jack on the gentle side.
Only try that last "hokey" part because it could be hardware in there sticking.
After that - have you called Apple Care?... It is a repair issue.

Hi Guys, suddenly I am not able to hear on my iphone 3GS whenever I receive a incoming call(it's very hard to hear wat the other people is saying)
I had my GENIUS appointment today. They did a couple of tests by plugging my iPhone into a macbook and both came back without showing problem. However as the genius was working with my phone he ran into the same problem with 3G and I had taken some screen shots showing full signal strength but unable to make a call, failure to send mms, and internet unable to connect, so he switched out my phone for a new one as I am still under warranty for another 3 months.
Make sure you backup your data and restore your phone as a new phone before going in to see a Genius, otherwise they may choose to try that process first and do some diagnotistic tests before being able to switch it out, and that can take up to 4 days.
Best guess by the Genius was that it was a hardware problem with the internal cellular antenna. He also recommended I get a new (free) SIM card from AT&T which I did (kiosk was in same mall)
So bottom line...if your 3G is messed up, make an appointment with Apple Genius. Thanks to all who tried to help, but mostly thank you apple Genius for great customer service. -
Has anyone had trouble with the LG 3 Cosmos when a call comes in; I am not able to hear from the caller, but, they can hear me? The volumn is turned up but I can't seem to resolve the issue? Thanks
Oh no, Robinbird18! This is not what we like to hear about your cell phone. It makes it pretty hard to have a conversation with someone when you can't hear them. If you make a phone call out are you able to have a conversation with someone without any issues? How long has this been going on? go to settings>general>reset>rest all settings phone will turn off and turn on by itself

Pre Earpiece Not Working after 1.3.1 update (not headset related)
Right after I updated to Web OS 1.3.1 my Earpiece stopped working, and this is not related to the headset issue that many people have had problems with. While making calls I cannot hear anything unless I use speakerphone. The phone is working fine other than the earpiece not outputting any sound.
This is NOT a problem with the phone thinking a headset jack is plugged in (believe me, I've had that problem too) as the phone Icon is shown (and not the headset ICON - when that had been a problem) when making calls.
Has anyone else experienced this? Any solutions?

I read this post: http://forums.palm.com/palm/board/message?board.id=webossoftware&message.id=11306&query.id=132362#M1..., took a "Safeway Cotton Swab", cut it in half, jammed the non-cotton end down the headset plug, moved it around for about five seconds, took it out, and was back in business.
It is a weird coincidence that I didn't start having the problem until after downloading the 1.3.1 update. But the low-tech Q-tip method solved the problem for me.
