Earpiece speaker

My son had his iphone replaced about 4-5 months ago for some hardware issues that could not be resolved.  The one they replaced is now having an issue with the ear piece speaker not working.  He went to the genius bar and was told that a replacement phone only has a warranty of 3 months and since it is out of that timeframe they will not replace/fix the earpiece
Any help here???

Very easy, water goes right through the earpiece mesh directly into the earpiece speaker. Suck it out, some do it with their mouth.

  • My earpiece speaker has stopped working on my iphone since updating to ios 6.1.3

I have recently updated my iphone software to IOS 6.1.3 and now when I make a call the other person can only hear me when on loudspeaker or on Hands free in my vehicle. When the phone uses the earpiece speaker all the other person can hear is a loud whistling noise, has anybody else had this problem ? If so is there a remedy?

    Hi rickwebby,
If you are having audio issues with your iPhone after updating to iOS 6.1.3, you may want to update to the recently released iOS 6.1.4 and see if the issue persists:

  • Earpiece speaker being flakey....

Hey I'm wondering if anyone has had similar issues and if you found a fix without going to the apple store. My earpiece speaker is being weird. It stopped working the other day for no apparent reason and I could only talk on speaker or with headphones. It wasn't picking up that headphones were in the socket because my external sound worked fine. It was just the earpiece. The following day it started working again for no apparent reason. Then it stopped and started working again.. And now it's not lol.
What do you guys think the problem is? It's pretty annoying and I dont have a store in my city... And before it's asked I did a hard restart and restored to factory in which neither worked. Thanks.

The standard troubleshooting steps in order are:
Power your iPhone off and on.
    An iPhone reset.
Restoring your iPhone with iTunes from your iPhone's backup.
Restoring your iPhone with iTunes as a new iPhone or not from your iPhone's backup.
If no change after restoring your iPhone with iTunes as a new iPhone or not from your iPhone's backup, your iPhone has a hardware problem.
You can call AppleCare to handle a warranty claim over the phone, or make an appointment at an Apple store if there is one nearby. Unless you plan on visiting San Antonio sometime soon, you can call AppleCare.

If you've tried everything mentioned you probably have a failed earpiece. One option is to get a BlueTooth headset and use it for all calls. It will be cheaper than the $199 out-of-warranty replacement price from Apple (if it's still in warranty or AppleCare it will be free). Good BT headsets can be had for around $40. And it will hold you over until the Next New Thing from Apple is available

  • My 3GS phone, the earpiece speaker shuts off about 5 seconds into phone calls.

My 3GS phone, the earpiece speaker shuts off about 5 seconds into a phone call, Is this an easy user correctable software fix or a hardware problem that requires service?

Yes. Apple doesn't repair most problems.  If out of warranty, you may be eligable for this:
    Out-of-Warranty Service
If you own an iPhone that is ineligible for warranty service but is eligible for Out-of-Warranty (OOW) Service, Apple will service your iPhone for the Out-of-Warranty Service fee listed below.
    iPhone model
    Out-of-Warranty Service
    iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c,
    iPhone 5
    $269
    iPhone 4s
    $199
    iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS,
    iPhone 3G, Original iPhone
    $149
A $6.95 shipping fee will be added if service is arranged through Apple and requires shipping. All fees are in U.S. dollars and are subject to local tax. When setting up out-of-warranty service, Apple will request credit card pre-authorization for the maximum service fee listed above.  This amount will be deducted from your credit limit. The final service fee we charge will be determined during testing and may be less than the service fee listed above.Certain damage is ineligible for out-of-warranty service, including catastrophic damage, such as the device separating into multiple pieces, and inoperability caused by unauthorized modifications. However, an iPhone that has failed due to contact with liquid may be eligible for out-of-warranty service.Apple reserves the right to determine whether or not your iPhone is eligible for Out-of-Warranty service. iPhones that are repaired or replaced have a 90-day limited hardware warranty or assume the remainder of your standard warranty or AppleCare product coverage, whichever is longer. Please see Apple's Repair Terms And Conditions for further details.

  • Iphone 6 earpiece speaker part number

I dropped my iPhone 6 in water accidentally. Now I am not aware if Apple will cover under warranty because its not manufacturer fault. So please advise for warranty if there is any in such situation.
Also I am looking for the Part-Number for earpiece speaker for iPhone 6. I want to buy original part rather than some other vendors/manufacturer.
    Thank you
    Akee

    1. The warranty doesn't cover liquid damage.  If you had the AppleCare+ program, then that would probably cover it, with a deductible of $79 USD + tax.
    2. Apple may offer to replace your iPhone 6 for $299 USD + tax.  If you do so, then your warranty remaining time on the current device will transfer over to your replacement iPhone 6 from Apple.
    3. There are no user serviceable parts for an iPhone.  Therefore, you cannot buy 'original' parts anywhere.  They do not exist.  Any parts being sold for iPhones that you find are either going to be (A) Stolen, (B) Counterfeit (C) Salvaged.

  • Galaxy S4 Earpiece Speaker Quit. (anyone else?)

Well I was so excited to get my Galaxy S4 yesterday & all was going well until I needed to make phone calls. Notice the earpiece speaker was going in & out. Thought at first it was just a bad signal so didn't think much of it. But then 4-5 phone calls later still doing same thing. I could put it on speaker phone & would work clear with no problems. Well now it just completly went out all together with no sound at all. I've tried everything thinking & hoping it was just an error on my part, but it looks like I got a blown speaker! Just wondering if anyone else has experienced any issues with that? I love the phone & verizon is sending another one soon! (I hope?) . Stuff happens I know but it's just disappointing when you wait 4 weeks for phone & you get a dud (came a little earlier than expected tho). Can't wait to get the new one hope it's is a little better. Thanks

Since you just got the phone, the replacement should be a new one.  I hope it works out better.

  • IPhone 4S Earpiece Speaker Muffled

The past week I have noticed all my phone calls have been muffled coming out of the earpiece speaker. If I turn on speaker phone then I can hear the conversation normally thus eliminating any volume or software issues. Any ideas for I go ahead and file for a replacement?

    Chare,
I have notice muffled or bassy sounding audio in the ear piece. Not on all calls and mostly happens with a friend of mine who uses a Droid and again not all the time. (same carrier for both of us are on ATT).
I have not tried speaker phone while this problem is manifesting itself but if I have switched to a bluetooth headset and the problem goes away.
This problem existed on my first 4s and also on my replacement 4S. The replacement was for a different problem, power/lock button malfunction.
Short story I don't know if swapping your phone will solve your problem but considering what it cost you I would ask Apple to swap it out for you. Maybe the swap will work for you where it didn't for me.
PS - I worked around too many Jet Engines and my high frequency hearing is pretty poor so when the "Bass/Muffled" problem kicks in it makes it very difficult for me to understand people.

  • IPhone earpiece speaker fault

Hi my iPhone earpiece speaker crackled twice when I made a phone call and then stopped working can any one tell me if this is a common fault? it works fine with the ear phones or BlueTooth car kit.

Hold the Front Page - - I've fixed it
Thanks Goshia - plugging/unplugging the headset 8 times cleared the problem.
Now why does that do that?!!
Thanks again! I no longer have to look like an idiot with something growing out of my ear.

  • My earpiece speaker shuts off in call.

My earpiece speaker shuts off about 5 seconds into a phone call, Is this an easy software fix or a hardware problem?

Have you tried any troubleshooting? Have you tried resetting your device by pressing and holding the Home button and power button until the apple appears? Have you restored from a back up? Have you restored as new?
Has your phone ever been jailbroken?
If none of the standard trouble shooting steps work, make an appointment at the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store for evaluation.

  • Incredible 2 earpiece/speaker not working

My Droid Incredible 2 earphone/speaker has not worked since I received it (ordered online and Verizon stores unhelpful).
Is there a setting I'm missing. I've had to use headphones to make calls. How do I get service if defective.

    Hello timbe
It is unacceptable that the earpiece has not worked out of the box.  I can certainly review your options to resolve this concern.  Please PM your name and cell # and we can come to a solution.

  • IPhone 4s Earpiece speaker scratchy

On my first iPhone 4s (White from Verizon), after just a few weeks, the sound quality from just the earpiece started to degrade and become scratchy. I called Verizon and they replaced it. The new phone was fine for 2-3 weeks, now it suffers the same issue. Sound from the speaker phone is fine. I can hear this from anything coming out of the earpiece. Even old voice mail that sounded fine a week ago plays back with this degraded quality. It is not plastic on the phone or anything due to Verizon service for sure. Has to be hardware. But why does it degrade after a few weeks? Tech support said they had not seen any such reports hence the reason I decided to post here. I suspect Verizon will again replace the hardware. But should others have a similar issue, be useful to know.

I just bought the iphone 4s from Verizon, and the "scratchy" audio and intermittant blanking out was there at the beginning.  sounds like aluminium foil scratching on metal.  happens with and without the earbuds, with and without the protective case, and on phone calls and listening to music. At one point, I actually heard something shift inside the phone when I moved the phone. Then the audio went out completely while I listened to a music select. On phone calls, it gets so bad sometimes that I cannot hear the caller.
Verizon is replacing the iphone 4S, but from the looks of the discussions here, bad audio may be an iphone 4s mechanical problem. I miss my iphone 3G.  It may have been slow, but Audio quality was perfect!

  • Why does iPhone 6 earpiece speaker have four terminals?

Why do the iPhone 6 and iPhone 5s earpiece speakers have 4 terminals? The iPhone 5 version has only two. The iP5s version appears to be two separate coils; one 16 ohm, one 25 ohm...and not connected.  Why?

    ted42 wrote:
Yes, earpiece.  I understand the warranty issues but I did the measurements on a replacement part from ifixit or similar.  On-line teardown photos clearly illustrate the difference between iP5 and iP5s & iP6 speaker modules.  Just incredibly curious about the purpose of the second voice coil and figured someone here might know.
Speculation about future Apple products or services is not allowed on this forum.
However, many companies plan ahead for compatibility with future products, services or hardware.  For example, there was an expansion slot designed into the original Nintendo Entertainment System, but that expansion slot was never used.  The designers put it there just in case they decided to use it in the future.
It happens all the time.  But until the company tells you what to use it for, it's just... there.  In short, don't worry about it.  Consider it to be a GNDN item until Apple tells us otherwise.
