EAS Config

hi,
I completed the installation of Essbase in Linux server, but during the configtool.sh
the Perform 1st time configuration of Shared Serives Database is disabled
Is this normal? If I proceed with connect to previously configured shared services I encountered error : "Shared Services Database content not found in specified database"
Can anyone help?

This error raise if you have started Administrative server and then try to configure it through configuration utility at same time. So first shutdown Administrative Server and also Console both then only configure it through configuration utility.

Issue in 11.1.2 Essbase configuration on Linux 5.5 64Bit - Config hangs

Hi Experts,
I am trying to do a fresh install and configure of EPM 11.1.2 in a distributed environment:
1. Oracle database version 11.20as repository on Linux server 1(linux 5.5, 64 bit) installed and working fine.
2. I installed and configured HSS on a Windows 2008 server SP1 64 bit - configured following: common settings, database,OCM,deploy to Application Server - Success. and I am able to open the HSS front end and check users,groups etc.
Now, I installed Essbase server,EAS server,ES server,EIS server on Linux server 2(5.5,64 bit).
The Problem is: When I am configuring Linux server 2(All the above mentioned Essbase components) -
Configurator asks for "Previously configured SS database"- I provide the details
next -> it asks for ES,EAS database schema -> I provide the details
next -> asks for weblogic domain information -> 2 options there -> I choose- > Deploy to an existing domain -> All the required info was already there(Windows server above)
BUT, when I click "next" -> the screen just Hangs and does not go anywhere. I waited for 1 hr and nothing happened.
So, I cancelled it and started the config again, but again the same issue.
the message on the linux server console are:
"HBR Configuration has not been initialized. Make sure you have logged in sucessfully and there are no exceptions in the HBR log file.
ConfigurationManager not available"
and No logs are generated under /oracle/Middleware/user_projects/epmsystem1/diagnostics/logs/config
any help on this will be greatly appreciated!!

Can we even have the following landscape?
1. HSS,OHS,Weblogic server,workspace - On a Windows 2008 server
2. Essbase server,EIS server,EAS server,EIS server - on a Linux server
3. Oracle database on another linux server.
my questions is, can we have the installation and configuration done considering the OS (wid and Linux), as described in points 1&2 above.
I guess I read somewhere, that all the web applications can be deployed to either all windows or to all Linux OS servers? - Is it correct?

EAS 9.3.1 on Windows 2003 64 bit (Xeon) issues

Has anyone successfully installed and configured EAS 931 on a Xeon based system running Server 2003 64 bit? I can install but when i try to configure the app server it bombs out with errors about not being able to load 32bit.dll on a 64 bit server. I swear past clients have used EAS in a 64 bit environment but i dont recall if they were Xeon or Itanium. I only see a 64 bit version of EAS for Itanum, not for x64. This is killing me.

Hmm, the issue now is that once essbase is installed, you can't redeploy EAS or APS if they're on the same server. i can't figure out where in the config process i should look to change a path or what not so EAS and APS deploy properly. I think EAS/APS need to be on a different server at this point.

EAS console Not coming up in EPM 11.1.2.1

Hi,
I installed EPM 11.1.2.1 on Windows 2008 R2 server. Everything was working fine until we installed Oracle Endeca on it.
Now we don't know what happened but after restarting the machine my EAS console is not coming up and gives me the below error:
Could not find the main class: com.essbase.eas.console.EasConsole.
Now,
1. We dont know if Essbase(EPM11.1.2.1) and Endeca can run or is supported to run on one machine. If anyone has any idea kindly let me know. 2. EAS console does not come up
3. Config Utility console also does Not come up
4. Essbase server is up and running fine - also Smart view can connect to essbase properly.

Hi Avishek,
Can you launch EAS Console via web (http://<eas_server>:10080/easconsole/console.html) and login successfully? If yes, then the problem is with the installed JRE version.
As per the Support Matrix at http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/bi-foundation/hyperion-supported-platforms-085957.html, the supported version of JAVA is JRE 1.6.0_22+

EAS server error: Could not connect to administration Server

Hi,
I have installed Hyperion suite in Windows server 2008 R2. It was working fine but now when i tried to login in to the EAS console, I am getting the following error:
"Server Error: Could not connect to administration server".
I tried accessing the same through the web URL and I found "404 error - file or directory not found".
I verified all my services are up and running fine. I am able to connect to the essbase sever through Excel as well as planning.
The log retireved from the HyS9eas-sysout.log file is below:

HyS9eas-syserr.log is empty and I dont find anyother details from the other log files.

I ran the EPM diagnostic and found EAS & APS application are failed. So as you mentioned, i tried re-deployment through EPM configurator.
But Re-configuration fails with error "An unexpected error occurred and the application will have to shut down" .
When i looked in to the Config tool.log,I got the following messages.

Since it is similare to the Oracle konwledge base article - (Doc ID 1570293.1), I tried adding the shared service domain to the Windows host file. But i am still recieveing the same error message as above.

Shared Services Registration Failed While Re-Configuring EAS

Hi
I was re-configuring EAS and my shared services and deployment failed.I reached out to oracle and they gave me a solution to delete the HBR instances.
But when I try to open the url in microsoft word it opens in html format .And i am unable to delete any HBR instance.What is the correct way to do it?
The solution offered by Oracle Support:
To resolve this issue, do the following steps:
1. Log into the User management console using the URL http://localhost:58080/interop/index.jsp.
2. Append the URL to show the files http://localhost:58080.interop/content/files
3. Copy this URL and open in Microsoft Word. (file->open option in MS Word)
4. Provide username (admin) and password (password).
5. Check in AdminProjects, Products and Projects folders for the files and folders related to HBR and delete any occurences.
6. Save and close the file.
7. Restart the services.
8. Configure EAS with Shared Services using the config utility.
9. For Business Rules to work, go to \Hyperion\AnalyticAdministration\storage\easuser location and delete all contents from the easusers folder.
10. Restart the EAS server.

How to Separate Management Servers for Ease of Administration?

Hello,
I am fairly new to SCOM, though have been charged with creating a monitoring solution for a particular group of customers and integrating it as far as possible into our existing corporate SCOM implementation, so any help, tips and so on would be greatly
appreciated.
The customer monitoring requirements will be very different to those of our fairly standard corporate environment - we will need to monitor very different technologies, with some systems sat in different domains or a DMZ. Our central servicedesk will still
need to monitor and action alerts and events for both environments as seamlessly as possible.
At the same time, I would like to separate the environments as the configuration of the management servers for the customer environment will be quite different from our corporate one, and I want to avoid having to make changes to all our corporate servers
every time I need to change something on the customer environment - so things like management pack installs, certificate admin, static DNS config and so on.
How would I go about this please? Would it be better to create a separate management group, with servers dedicated to the customer environment, then connect this to the corporate management group so that the servicedesk can still monitor it, or is there
another way of doing it? Perhaps using resource pools? Time will be a factor here, though ultimately the goal is ease of administration going forward.

Using resource pools will not allow you to separate configuration such as MP installs, security, etc. as they are all part of the same management group. From Technet, "A resource pool is a collection of management servers used to distribute
work amongst themselves and take over work from a failed member." If configuration needs to be completely separate from the base configuration perspective, you could use separate connected management groups.
Another option is to separate the configuration within the management group. For example, if you need to monitor SQL computers in your corp environment but not the customer environment, simply create a group containing customer computers and override
the SQL discovery. This applies to other technologies as well. You can even group computers by environment (corp/customer) by using reg key attributes like Kevin Holman describes here: (While my account is being verified
I can't post links but you can search "Creating custom dynamic computer groups based on registry keys on agents"). If you are familiar with MP authoring, you could create a new MP with a new Windows Computer based class instead of extending
the Windows Computer class. From a capabilities perspective, you can certainly monitor corporate, customer, DMZ, and other domains in the same management group. If the domain is untrusted or in the case of the DMZ, workgroups computers, you can
utilize gateway servers with certificate authentication which will be configured for each domain/dmz gateway.
Ease of administration is a tricky concept here...if you utilize separate management groups, administration will have to be handled completely separate in 2 separate consoles. If there are separate SCOM admins per management group, this is
of no issue, but if 1 team/person is managing both, this can be difficult. Alternatively, there will be some up front work to using groups to separate the environments using groups, discoveries, etc.

Configuring odbc.ini in Unix for SQL data sources in EAS

Hi All,
The first question I have is, which odbc.ini file should I edit?
The tech reference says navigate to /home/Common/ODBC/Merant/x.x/odbc.ini but I have 5 folders under Merant...

The main problem I have is making the new connection show in EAS client, I have edited all the 5 of the ODBC.ini files on our Unix essbase server to include our DB name and left the values as default (for testing purposes), what I have found is that the new connection name does not appear in the SQL data sources as a drop down menu, do I need to restart anything to make the new value show in EAS?

To answer my own question, the path to the true odbc.ini file is located here...ORACLE_INSTANCE/config/OPMN/opmn/opmn.xml, in my case, EAS was refering to an odbc.ini file located in my ARBORPATH and not /u02/oracle/obi11d/fmw/Oracle_BI1/common/ODBC/Merant/6.0/lib/ARora24

EAS Server does not start

Based on the beginning of the error output, it looks like port 10080 is already in use. Was the EAS service already running when you tried to start it? Could it be a rogue instance of EAS running that needs to be fully shutdown (perhaps requiring a server reboot at the most extreme). Was some new software installed on the server that may be using the port?

What version are you on?
Have you externalised your users successfully?
If this is a new install could you maybe try and create a new Essbase.sec file?

EAS Configuration Error

In EAS, i cant able to access the Planning Outline(i can able to access Essbase outline), so i decided to do the reconfiguration of EAS. While doing the EAS reconfiguration I am getting below error.

Hi,
This error usually means you are trying to register EAS with Shared Services but it is already registered.
If you believe you need to register it again I think you have remove it from shared services, there used to be no easy way of removing it.
First I would try and delete the application group under business rules in shared services, then try and reregister, if it does not work then
this is the method I usually take.
Open Word
Go to
http://<hss machine>:58080/interop/content/files
if it is version 11 change to 28080
Enter admin username/password
Go into the folders AdminProjects, Products and Projects
Anything related to HBR e.g. HBRAPP.HBR right click and then delete.
Restart the services
Try and register again.

Unable to re-register EAS

After a reinstall of EAS I am not able to do a database deployment (configure) or a register to Shared Services.
The mnessage is quite clear: Exception: Product already exists.Registeration failed: error.generalSaveModel.Product already exists.Registeration failed: error.
Also the EAS and client are working fine. But the config utility is saying we have an error.
How can we un register EAS?

You really can't browse the tables an get anything useful - You need to use a WebDav browser / editor.
You can use any web browser to view the repository content by opening the URL to the WebDav repository:
http://<sharedservices_server>:<port>/interop/content/files
Login with the 'admin' ID
This is a good thing to try out just to get an understanding of how what you see in SharedServices relates to what is stored in the repository.
If you're feeling brave and need to edit the data in the repository you can use a WebDav editor such as Microsoft Word. Just do a 'File --> Open' and then the same URL as above, login as 'admin' and browse to the file you want work with. Note that some of the values are stored as attributes so you would need to right click on an element to view / change those.

EAS # problem with shared services

EAS registration with Shared Services failing. The HYPERION_HOME/logs/config/configtool_err.log file shows the following error:

Delete all contents from the eas folder,....
Restart the services.
Configure EAS with Shared Services
Restart the EAS server.
this should help ...it happened some time ago ..iam still not sure what exactly the issue but it helped me to solve my issue

I tried to telnet port 7777 & 28089 of server 1 from each server. The connection failed. I have asked the network team to open the required hyperion ports
Can anybody help me on this.

Just out of interest why have you used OAS as it is pretty much dead product now and is not used in future releases.
Anyway I am not sure why you have closed ports between those servers, you will end up spending a lot of time trying to open all the required ports between the servers.
Can you not get all the ports open for a time just to check it definitely is a ports issue.

I think someone forgot to unquote "DataDirect 6.1 MySQL Wire Protocol and render the rest of the configuration setting useless. My coworker seems to disagree. Is it matter to add the double quote after Protocol?

Yes just add the quote and restart essbase, it should be
