EAS question

Hi Team,
I have installed EAS client on my desktop and I have essbase 11.1.2.2 running on another server. I can connect using Excel addin to the essbase server.
I am not able to connect to the Essbase server from desktop EAS client and I am getting an Administration server error 'could not connect to administration server"
Can the EAS client directly connect to Essbase server?
Thanks for you time.

Hi Sunil,
can you please clarrify. When you say "Essbase Admin Server" do you mean the EAS deployed in the application server?
Below is the information which I see in the epm_communication_flows_1112200 spreadsheet. Can you please advise.

  • Easing question

    Hi,
I was wondering if it is possible to set a motion path for an image so at the start, it moves by quickly, in the middle it slows down and near the end it speeds up again. If it is, could someone tell me how to do it?
    Thanks
    Leon J. Fletcher
    I'm using Motion 3

In the motion path behavior there is a "Speed" parameter. Set that to custom. Then set keyframes in the custom speed window right below (numerical value, 0-100 refers to percentage of path completed). You can the go into the keyframe editor and move the key frames to the points in the timeline you want to get your effect (If you place, say the keyframe at 25% and move that to the near the end of the behavior, traveling the first 25% of the path will take up most of the behavior, the last 75% of the path will zoom by.) You can change the keyframe interpolation to smooth out transitions between speed changes. That's at least one way.

  • EAS Export Question

I'm looking at a recent export file from an Essbase cube (Level 0 Export EAS) and it appears that for records that have trailing null values, they are not being written to the file as #MI, but rather are null. Is this typical? This is a Planning cube, so there are 13 columns of level zero data (BegBal plus 12 base time periods). If there are null values in the record before numeric values, they are displayed as #Mi. If there are nulls after a numeric value (i.e. trailing nulls) they do not appear as #Mi. When I retrieve the intersection via the Excel add-in, it does come back as #Mi.
Is this acceptable, or is their something wrong with the format? Is it just Essbase being efficient with the file and when I drop it back into the cube it will treat the trailing null values as #Missing?
In the example below, the third record contains null values for BegBal, Feb and Mar; however BegBal is the only column that references Beg Bal
    BegBal Jan Feb Mar
    #Mi 100 50 150
    #Mi #Mi 100 50
    #Mi 50

This is how Essbase does it. It makes it a pain if you are trying to take the export and load it into a relational DB. but if oyu load it back to Essbase you are fine assuming that in your first 500 records at least one has all thirteen columns for you to define the load rule properly.

  • Essbase 11.1.1.1.3 Installed - Question on EAS

    Hi,
I installed Essbase 11.1.1.1.3 and EAS. Successfully configured both. I checked the services and all services are 'started'. They also restart with no issues. When I goto a browser and launch EAS I'm able to login with 'admin' and 'password' which are the defaults. When I expand ' Administration Servers' and try and add a user under 'users', it's grayed out for 'create user'. I want to add a administration user to bypass the defualt 'admin'. Any ideas on why this would be grayed out?
    Thanks

I realize that. So to make EAS not talk to Shared Services too, then you make the change above. Got it. Shared Services is a little gray for me as I come from the 7.x world. Also, during install can you completely bypass installing Shared Services completely or do you have to install it as part of Foundation Services and then just not use it if you wish? I was told to always install and configure Shared Services first then do do Essbase/EAS next. Was never really sure why.
    Thanks

  • IPhone EAS Server Load question

We are in the process of introducing the iPhone into our corporate structure. However we are running into some delaying tactics by some of our IT management. They are saying that they will limit the amount of iPhones because they "significantly use more data" than the OWA (Outlook Web Access) users.
    Is this possible?
Doing my research and reading both Apple's and Microsoft's White Papers regarding the iPhone on Exchange and the EAS, I don't believe that this is the case.
Are there any benchmarks out there that I can show them?
Has anyone else come across this kind of stonewalling?
    Thanks
BTW - I am one of the IT people trying to get this integrated.

    How much extra processing load?
I'm trying to put together a rebuttal to the "significant" excess load they are trying to push off.
It's really impossible to estimate the extra processing load without a lot of information on the server hardware, memory, current CPU utilization percentage, number of iPhones to be supported. All I can tell you is that we didn't notice any significant increase in CPU load when we started supporting iPhones (the CEO wanted one, so we added support). Unless the Exchange server is already running in excess of 80% utilization it won't be noticeable.
Processing load is thus not a viable argument against the iPhone. Viable arguments include security (the iPhone is less secure than a BlackBerry), IT staff workload if they already support Enterprise security on the BB, governance and control...but you shouldn't mention these if they haven't thought about them
Your problem is going to be your word against theirs, and they will win unless you can get executive level support. So focus on personal networking rather than technical viability.

  • EAS -- Outline Edit memory question

    Hi Team,
When I am opening an outline for EDIT it gives me the below warning. Can you please let know your thoughts.

  • EAS/Architecture Question

Doing some research regarding EAS version 11. I've read on some other threads that Shared Services is not necessary for EAS. However, some other threads seem to indicate it is required for installation. Can anyone help clear this up for me? Thanks.
    Drew Rushford

No, it is not ticked. I don't know if it makes a difference, but this environment was set up with EAS in Shared Services security mode. We were having another issue, and thought it might get resolved if we went back to Native security, and performed the necessary procedures to do so, and that's how it got into native security mode. Unfortunately, it didn't resolve our problem, but it's definitely in native security mode now.

  • Appt entry/edit question:  want tips for ease of use

Hi all, I use iCal on my iMac and iPhone, and have run across these issues, and wondered if there is a trick or tip I am missing.
Adding an appointment on the desktop:
When the event edit screen pops up, I try tabbing through each field to enter the relevant data. This entire window seems to be difficult to navigate, in that I would expect to tab through every field. After "location", the tab jumps to either the minutes or the AM/PM field. I then have to back tab to where I need to be. Entering the times can be a trick. I try to enter a 12:30 pm appointment, and in the hour field I type a 1 and a 2, which works sometimes, but sometimes moves me from a 1:00 display to a 2:00. then my noon appt is misscheduled for 2:00, if I don't catch it. Am I missing something?
When I am done editing a calendar entry, I can't hit return to save, I have to click done. Again, am I missing something, or is this just how it works?
thanks for any tips you have!

i believe , the configuration should work fine...one thing you need to ensure is , both the devices need to have latest firmware ..

  • EAS data export in column format question

I am trying to export data in column format and import back to replace 0 with #Missing. I want to see if it will reduce any blocks. When I export I am getting data header members from a different dimension other that Period. It is getting tricky to map these many data rows in rule file as oppose to 12 from Period.
What determines this behavior. I know I have tried in the past (different app) and Period came through as data header record.
    Any help is appreciated.

You can't directly control which dimension is selected (at least, not without changing your cube) in a native export.
However, for what you are doing, you do not need a load rule - you could just find-and-replace in the file.
You can also try converting zero to #Missing with a calc script (see Re: BSO Level 0 Block Analysis Advice) although it's going to be slow and you'd need to defrag with a dense restructure afterward.

  • PXI 2527 & PXI 4071 -Questions about EMF considerations for high accuracy measurements and EMF calibration schemes?

    Hi!
I need to perform an in-depth analysis of the overall system accuracy for a proposed system. I'm well underway using the extensive documentation in the start-menu National Instruments\NI-DMM\ and ..\NI-Switch\ Documenation folders...
While typing the question, I think I partially answered myself while cross-referencing NI documents... However a couple of questions remain:
If I connect a DMM to a 2 by X arranged switch/mux, each DMM probe will see twice the listed internal "Differential thermal EMF" at a typical value of 2.5uV and a max value of less than 12uV (per relay). So the total effect on the DMM uncertainty caused by the switch EMF would be 2*2.5uV = 5uV? Or should these be added as RSS: = sqrt(2.5^2+2.5^2) since you can not know if the two relays have the same emf?
Is there anything that can be done to characterize or account for this EMF (software cal, etc?)?
    For example, assuming the following:
    * Instruments and standards are powered on for several hours to allow thermal stability inside of the rack and enclosures
    * temperature in room outside of rack is constant
Is there a reliable way of measureing/zeroing the effect of system emf? Could this be done by applying a high quality, low emf short at the point where the DUT would normally be located, followed by a series of long-aperture voltage average measurements at the lowest DMM range, where the end result (say (+)8.9....uV) could be taken as a system calibration constant accurate to the spec's of the DMM?
What would the accuracy of the 4071 DMM be, can I calculate it as follows, using 8.9uV +-700.16nV using 90 days and 8.9uV +- 700.16nV + 150nV due to "Additional noise error" assuming integration time of 1 (aperture) for ease of reading the chart, and a multiplier of 15 for the 100mV range. (Is this equivalent to averaging a reading of 1 aperture 100 times?)
So, given the above assumptions, would it be correct to say that I could characterize the system EMF to within  8.5uV+- [700.16nV (DMM cal data) + 0.025ppm*15 (RMS noise, assuming aperture time of 100*100ms = 10s)] = +-[700.16nV+37.5nV] = +- 737.66nV? Or should the ppm accuracy uncertainties be RSS as such: 8.5uV +- sqrt[700.16nV^2 + 37.5nV^2] = 8.5uV +-701.16nV??
As evident by my above line of thought, I am not at all sure how to properly sum the uncertainties (I think you always do RSS for uncertainties from different sources?) and more importantly, how to read and use the graph/table in the NI 4071 Specifications.pdf on page 3. What exactly does it entail to have an integration time larger than 1? Should I adjust the aperture time or would it be more accurate to just leave aperture at default (100ms for current range) and just average multiple readings, say average 10 to get a 10x aperture equivalent?
The below text includes what was going to be the post until I think I answered myself. I left it in as it is relevant to the problem above and includes what I hope to be correct statements. If you are tired of reading now, just stop, if you are bored, feel free to comment on the below section as well.
The problem I have is one of fully understanding part of this documenation. In particular, since a relay consists of (at least) 2 dissimilar metal junctions (as mentioned in the NI Switch help\Fundamentals\General Switching Considerations\Thermal EMF and Offset Voltage section) and because of the thermo-couple effect (Seebeck voltage), it seems that there would be an offset voltage generated inside each of the relays at the point of the junction. It refeers the "Thermocouple Measurements" section (in the same help document) for further details, but this is where my confusion starts to creep up.
In equation (1) it gives the expression for determining E_EMF which for my application is what I care about, I think (see below for details on my application).
What confuses me is this: If my goal is to, as accurately as possible, determine the overall uncertainty in a system consisting of a DMM and a Switch module, do I use the "Differential thermal EMF" as found in the switch data-sheet, or do I need to try and estimate temperatures in the switch and use the equation?
*MY answer to my own question:
By carefully re-reading the example in the thermocouple section of the switch, I realized that they calculate 2 EMF's, one for the internal switch, calculated as 2.5uV (given in the spec sheet of the switch as the typical value) and one for the actual thermocouple. I say actual, because I think my initial confusion stems from the fact that the documenation talks about the relay/switch junctions as thermocouples in one section, and then talks about an external "probe" thermocouple in the next and I got them confused.
As such, if I can ensure low temperatures inside the switch at the location of the junctions (by adequate ventilation and powering down latching relays), I should be able to use 2.5uV as my EMF from the switch module, or to be conservative, <12uV max (from data sheet of 2527 again).
I guess now I have a hard time believeing the 2.5uV typical value listed.. They say the junctions in the relays are typically an iron-nickel alloy against a copper-alloy. Well, those combinations are not explicitly listed in the documenation table for Seebeck coefficients, but even a very small value, like 0.3uV/C adds up to 7.5uV at 25degC. I'm thinking maybe the table values in the NI documentation reffers to the Seebeck values at 25C?

Seebeck EMV needs temperature gradients , in your relays you hopefully have low temperature gradients ... however in a switching contact you can have all kind diffusions and 'funny' effects, keeping them on same temperature is the best you can do.
Since you work with a multiplexer and with TCs, you need a good Cold junction ( for serious calibrations at 0°C ) and there is the good place for your short cut to measure the zero EMV. Another good test is loop the 'hot junction' back to the cold junction and observe the residual EMV.  Touching (or heating/cooling) the TC loop gives another number for the uncertainty calculation: the inhomogeneous material of the TC itself..
A good source for TC knowledge:

    retained,
all will be for naught unless one simple important fact is
    kept firmly in mind.
The thermocouple reports only what it "feels."
This may or may not the temperature of interest'

  • Palm says Domino servers not supported (??????) - webOS 2.1.0 IMAP or EAS Sync do not work

So I've been struggling to get my work email up and running on a new Pre2. All my accounts except my work account sync without any issue. At work we use a Domino 8.5.2 server with Domino Traveler. Users not using the corporate BB's have the option to sync their mail using IMAP or EAS (on Traveler) on the server. Both of these work flawlessly on my Pre (minus) 1.4.5 (which I am still using) and neither works on the Pre2 2.1.0.
I have been all over the internet, logged a complaint with Palm. Had the problem escalated to Level 3.  HP-Palm has no tech support for WebOs devices in Asia (where I am presently based) and they told me US based level 3 tech support cannot make overseas calls. Tried calling the US tech support myself but it took 30min to get the guy to understand the problem as I had to start from scratch even after giving my complaint ref number. After that no news from them. No call back no email - nothing. Finally wrote an email on their website complaining to HP's CEO. The very next day some guy from tech support in Asia called me and giving reference of my email to Mr.Apotheker told me that he would co-ordinate with the engineers in USa and call me each day to update me on the status of my complaint.
After 3 calls from the guy during with some more questions answered he finally called me this morning to convey the following to me.
"The complaint lodged by you has been checked, duplicated at our end and confirmed. However, IMAP email on a Domino server or Domino Traveler EAS synchronization is not supported by webOS 2 so we cannot help me any further. Have a nice day!"
Wow, I could not believe that this guy was actually serious about this statement. HP-Palm are actually publicly stating that a webOS 2 device syncing with a Domino server is not officially supported. That in my opinion is unbelievable. They cannot possibly have any hopes of being a serious player in the enterprise environment with this level (or lack thereof) of email sync support on the device.
To anyone who can still help me trouble shoot I have already tried the following:
    - deleted & setup problem account again
    - partial erase
    - full erase
    - full secure erase with a completely new palm profile
    - on server side completely new mail db setup on server
    - trying to click forward and back between email messages
    - setting up a test account for the palm guys to try to log into and confirm duplication of this issue at their end
Nothing works. The final result is:
IMAP: it is absolutely impossible to get the IMAP Sync to show folders from our sever. The account gets set up and validates without any problem. But no folders show up on the device. If you click on drafting a new email message and send out a message it may or may not go (random behavior). It shows up in the Outbox on the device and in case it is successfully transmitted it just disappears from device (no sent folder). On the desktop client the sent email appears in the sent folder.
Conclusion: SMTP relay works at times. IMAP sync for incoming connects but no folders show up on device.
EAS Sync with Domino Traveler: After trying dozens of different configurations the email starts to sync and all the folders show up. all email headers show up just fine. But whenever I try to open an email it needs anywhere from a couple of seconds to 30-40 seconds while I watch the "retrieving email text" then if I am lucky the email opens with full text but there are a number of email messages which never open and eventually give me an "error - unable to download".
Conclusion: The email sync with Traveler is completely random. I can read some messages but most show me an error. The contacts search from Global address book on the server works albeit with a 5-10 second delay.
HP-Palm have given me a reference bug number CSO-7675 and as I understood officially told me that they cannot offer any further help. I don't know if this issue will be addressed in subsequent updates or I'm on my own. If anyone can offer any further help on this issue it would be much appreciated.
Post relates to: Pre 2 p102ueu (SFR)

I have tried much of what you have and have the same basic problem. Email sync to Traveler 8.5.2FP2 is erratic at best. Another symptom I see is if sometimes when I open an email from the Inbox, I get the body of a different email! So something is definitely broken. Question is, is it Traveler or WebOS? It seems that WebOS 2.x uses a later version of Active Sync as I can see messages on the Domino console referring to XML tags that are not understood and other error messages. I'm pretty sure Traveler only supports what is needed for the iPhone to sync. It is very annoying and pretty much makes email / celndaring unusable. The calendar on my Pre seems to take a long time to respond after opening and I'm pretty sure it's due to the above issues. I have tried the commonTime mNotes product and that works fine but I would prefer to use Traveler as it is a more elegant solution.

  • Questions - Canon HV30/HV20 users

After reading several reviews I’m thinking of purchasing a Canon HV30 camcorder to do some HD recording. Yet I am proceeding with caution - HD files are huge and I’m wondering in a generally way how my - intel 24” 2.15 GHz - RAM at 3gig iMac will perform? Will it perform real time video captures etc. with this tape based camera? I am a patient sort of person and don’t mind waiting for things to process but is it even reasonable to use this setup for HD.
    2nd Question --
    – I use iMovie 6 and Final Cut Express 3.5. I have several large capacity FW 800 external drives connected to the iMac I would like to use with this camcorder.
However there's always unexpected things like I have read the Canon HV30 uses FW400 port and does not like any other FW devices connected when capturing video to the computer – So does that include the FW800 port as well?
Perhaps a few of you have some experience with the HV30 or HV20 - I’d like to hear your thoughts on what to expect - would it be a good choice. What are your brags and nags about your HV30?
I know that's subjective but I'm looking for good video quality - ease of editing and having the ability to save the edited movie back to tape. Latter when bluray media and burners get more reasonable I may burn the edited movies to disk.
    Thanks for any thoughts,

    Hi Ron,
Sorry your having problems - If you live near an Apple store or a friend that has latter hardware/software on their Mac try the HV30 at least you wold know if somethings wrong with the cameras FW port or not. Perhaps you can get the camera exchanged. I have head from quite a number of folks their HV30 work fine with Macs, iMovie an FCE.
I went ahead and purchased the HV30 it should arrive early this coming week -
One thing - As I mentioned before in other posts to this board I do have a Canon gl2 and it is very touchy about any other FW devices connected most times the computer will not even recognize the camera. Try the HV30 as the only device on the FW port. I'm using iMovie 6.0.4 and FCE 3.5 I'll post how things go - you have got me a little worried though.
My 2 cents - best wishes,
