Ease of use

I am looking for cheap easy to use camcorder for my little nephew. He's 8. Since I want him to be able to shoot video and then use it with iMovie '08 it's not just ease of use in the camcorder I'm looking for, but ease of use with iMovie '08.
I'd like some opinions of using iMovie '08 with either of these cameras.
Aiptek A-HD 720P - $130
Flip Ultra - $85
From what I have read, the Aiptek H.264 files drop right into iMovie '08, but the files from the Flip Ultra need converting before hand. The flip might have ease of use as a camera going for it, but I think the converting might be a downside.
What do you guys think? Ever use either of these with iMovie '08? Any hassles to be aware of? Thanks for the info in advance.

If you have a deadline of 12 days you are risking a lot gambling that you can learn FCE in that time.
As David says, some people might be able to do it but until you try there is no way of knowing whether you are one of those, and if you aren't it's too late.
If it is possible to finish it in iMovie, that should be your course.
FCE bears no resemblance to iMovie so it's not just a matter of making a natural progression, it's an entirely different mindset.

Camcorder options for HD and ease of use

I am new to the mac computer and also looking at buying one of two models of camcorders and wanted to see what the mac specialist help. I am interested in the Sony HDR-SR10 40GB High Definition Handycam (I like the 10 mega pix still option) or the Cannon VIXIA HG10. I have received mixed information at the electronic stores about which would work well with the apple system. Any recommendations on ease of use for a novice with apple? Thank you.

Hard-disc hi-def camcorders record video in AVCHD format, which has to be converted into a slightly different 'Apple Intermediate Codec' format during importing into iMovie, for editing. This works OK with fast, Intel-based Macs (..all the most recent models..) but will NOT work with older PowerPC-based Macs (two or three years old) unless you download a separate program called VoltaicHD (click here).
On slower Macs you may find that the import lags slightly behind the 'real time' movie, as the video is converted during the import.
Video from hi-def camcorders which record onto miniDV tape (instead of a hard disc or memory chips or miniDVDs) using the HDV mode (instead of AVCHD) can be imported straight into any older PowerPC-based Mac or a newer Intel-based Mac ..but, again, there may be a lag during import if using an older PowerPC-based Mac, but not on any current fast Macs.

Full screen issue when utilizing Ease of Use on screen keyboard and RDP in Win8.1

I am exploring using touch technology with our point of sale application which is delivered to our clients using RDP. The default touch keyboard in Win8 is basically useless for our application so we enabled the touch keyboard under Ease of Use (EoU)
which does meet our requirements. We enabled the KB in docked mode so it is always displayed and locked to the bottom of the display. The issue is that when we start an RDP session in full screen mode, the RDP session is using the whole screen
and slipping under the docked EoU KB. Is there a means to have RDP recognize the reduced screen size with the EoU KB docked and only use the available screen real estate? I understand that I can configure the RDP settings manually and approximate
what I'm looking for but this drops the session into a window which is somethibg I'm looking to avoid.

As per my research, I can say that you need to set the RDP screen size manually. So after setting the size of Full screen RDP you can able to use. You can also try to switch the application in Remote Desktop connection by “Ctrl+Alt+Break”. Please check
the shortcut to be used when using RDC.

Should Windows 10 provide ease of use virtual machine to run Android, Windows XP, etc applications

In Windows 7, I really like the easy access to Windows XP Mode that enabled me to have full compatibility to my older hardware scanner and its software (which I still use today). Similarly, I love my Z30 Blackberry phone which allows me to run Android
applications in addition to those from the Blackberry store.
My suggestion for Windows 10 is to provide a built in virtual machine option (ease of use) that would allow my Windows machine to install and run the multitude of Android applications that are currently available.
I believe an ease of use feature like this in Windows 10 would become a real differentiator for Windows eco systems, such as Windows Phones and Windows Surface and help promote sales and product adoption. To me it is another way of looking at the product
and making it the best in any world... Kind of like running the MS Office product on a Mac.

Microsoft Office for Mac was purposefully written for Macs, it doesn't use an emulator to run the PC version. Microsoft earns revenue from the sales of Microsoft Office for Mac.
You're not going to see Microsoft going out of their way to enable running Android apps on Windows 10.

New music player not satisfactory no eas of use an...

There was a time that I was telling friends that now cell phones are equipped with all the best features when it comes to music also. But that was thing of the past.
1. Artist & Albums Menu. No Separate selection for each available.
a. Artist:
How it is: Artist names are shown with album names.
Problem: If one had to play all songs of (single) desired artist, he can’t as he doesn’t get “PLAY ALL SONGS” option in that.
How it should be: Type or scroll to the desired artist name, tab (open) it then you will find out options as “Play all songs” or “Play Album (named separately as XXX, XYZ)”. Previous Media Players had that option.
b. Albums:
How it is: As explained in Artist menu.
Problem: I have albums which are multi artists (especially Indian movie songs which are mostly various artists) so if one had to listen to that complete album, he simply can’t.
How it should be: As explained above for artists. Previous Media Players had that option.
2. No type tool available to search in desired fields.
How it is: The most important thing, the typing tool is unavailable,
Problem: If one have huge music collection and have to search for song either by artist, album, genre, or by all songs option, the only way is to scroll, while scrolling he is guided by alphabets but still it not powerful tool.
How it should be: It’s easy to find if one just type the first few alphabets (of first or any word in the field) works as filter, whatever you typed remains on screen the rest hides. Previous Media Players had these options.
3. Missing Music Composer Menu.
As these options were available in older phone’s media players like Nokia N95, N73 etc but in new once they are missing, Changing in manifestation is good, adding new and attractive features is great, improvement in ease of use is best but eliminating power features is doing something which is equal to downgrade to Stone Age............ I don't think so people will appreciate.
4. Custom Equalizer Settings.
How it is: There few selective factory presets for the equalizer.
Problem: There are millions of Genres Worldwide and not every part of the world matches the music presets they stored in device and most of time people match the sound on their Audio devices (Car Stereo, Home and other) so they need to edit the equalizer for the best optimum sound quality.
How it should be: As in older devices had and one can change and save his own setting.
5. Expecting to add more menus: Suggestions for more menus (like year, mood etc) will be greatest things you will do.
Who will go and buy a separate device just for music if he has all these features supported by his cell phone specially when the manufacturer claims that it have music player inside.
People don’t have to stop on highways or stop skating for a while just to select the next song, allow people to go by several options.
In one simple line to explain, keep all the options of older music player, just change the display styles to new one. Add the suggestions.

Bug in xdb ease of use tools?

While executing the prvtxutil.plb file, I get the following error:

About the new iTunes version, where and how do I choose to sync tv shows to my device, whereas on the older version, you could go to it however I can't seem to find it on this latest version, is this something that they forgot about when they created this latest version or is it an issue where they should really consider ease of use, because it was easy to do at first but now I am lost and it is frustrating to not be able to use my phone like I was used to, that's the reason I don't like downloading new updates

Problems with Windows 7 Ease of Use Magnifier & Narrator

I am legally blind and need Windows 7 Ease of Use programs to use the computer. However, I have been having problems with both the narrator and the magnifier. I have Home Premium running on i5-3317u with integrated graphics and 6gb ram.
Q1: Magnifier has options to follow the keyboard focus and the text insertion point. However, in my case, it will only follow the mouse pointer. It will not follow the keyboard insertion point. I want magnifier to follow the mouse
pointer, the keyboard focus, and the keyboard insertion point. How can I get them all to work properly?
Q2: I cannot get narrator to read documents, whether I use notepad, MS Word, or third party software. Also, I cannot control narrator with the keyboard controls. How can I fix these problems?

This may occur if there are some corrupt system files on the computer. I would suggest that you run a SFC scan which would scan for corrupt system files on the computer and replace them

An honest, AVCHD compatibility / ease of use - open discussion.

Hello everyone! i have yet to upgraded to CS4 and wish to use it with the AVCHD format which I know CS4 now is now capable of. But seeing how I can't use the trial to make sure I am comfortable going tapeless, I wish to hear your thoughts on this. Here are a few questions I have (all with PC):
1) I hear that importing AVCHD can end up chopped up physically due to a FAT 32 issue, is this a universal trait for premier or is it because of how a camera itself manages the format? (I am not refering to start and stop recording on a scene, I am refering to one continuous shot of footage being chopped up because of file management)
2) I have also heard that AVCHD is hard to edit with. Those of you whom have worked with it, have you noticed this and if so how has it rendered your productivity? For example, have any of you been able to successfully and effiecently use a multicamera mode with three or more AVCHD files without crashes, or choppy playback or A/V sync issues? (assuming your computer has the minimal Adobe recommendations)
3) Can I export an AVCHD project into other formats and ratio sizes without loss of picture quality? (i.e. down conversion to a 4:3 dv avi file.)
4) Can I work with AVCHD footage within a 4:3 DV project? (I know how all this sounds, but I am asking about compatibility, capability, and ease of use. I never know when I may need this option.
5) Can I use AVCHD with After Effects? Can I have a alpha channel in this format?
6) Is there effects limitations with this format (i.e. can I still do scale/move/opacity in real time or color corrections)
7) Are you enjoying the AVCHD editing experience?

I don't know if this helps answer your questions or not but here goes.
I have a Dell Preciscion M6400 laptop with 8 gigs of Ram and 1 Gb Video Card with Quad Core Extreme 2.53 CPU. I edited on DV for 10 years and just in the last 12 months have switched over to AVCHD with my purchase of a Sony HDR S12 (I think I got that right...)
At first, editing with AVCHD was a frustrating and painful experience, so much so that I would just render all the clips to AVIs before editing. When I did the update to CS4.1 I noticed that the pain considerably eased if not vanished entirely. I only shoot the "Full HD" on the camera at what it calls Full Quality 1980 x 1080 60i but which is really just anamorphic 1440 x 1080 60i as far as Adobe Premiere Settings go.
As to your questions, here goes:
1) I hear that importing AVCHD can end up chopped up physically due to a FAT 32 issue?
I use Sony PMB to import my files and then drag and drop them into Premiere Pro. I've never experienced this issue. Everything imports just fine.
2) I have also heard that AVCHD is hard to edit with:
It is a bit draggy in terms of realtime playback most noticeably when playing back over a transition. However, I ascribe that to having a laptop computer which sort of squeaks over the finish line in terms of having the firepower to handle HD.
I have not noticed any changes in terms of my work speed since switching from DV to AVCHD, but seeing as I bought a new computer at the same time, that may be the reason. I don't use Multicamera mode right now, so can't answer you on that. Never had any sync issues.
3) Can I export an AVCHD project into other formats and ratio sizes without loss of picture quality?
I do this all the time as I don't render out to Blu-Ray and have zero problems, I usually compress to MPEG 2 DVD as well as a variety of webformats in Windows Media, Quicktime H264 as well as uncompressed AVI files for mixing up with old projects.
4) Can I work with AVCHD footage within a 4:3 DV project?
I don't know if this goes for everybody, but in CS4.1 you don't set the project anymore to be a specific type, you set the sequences to be 4:3 DV, AVCHD,etc... and you mix and match however the hell you want. It is really liberating. Yes you have to render the final results when you mix media, but really,,,who gives a hoot.
5) Can I use AVCHD with After Effects? Can I have a alpha channel in this format?
I do,usually when I am editing with AVC HD and I need an effect over the clip I simply drag the clip from Premiere over into after effects automatically creating a project of the right settings and have at it. I almost always export out using a Quicktime file so can't answer on exporting out as AVCHD.
6) Is there effects limitations with this format (i.e. can I still do scale/move/opacity in real time or color corrections):
I do all this and sometimes it plays through depending on how much I am scaling, dissolving, etc... all on one piece. Again, I think if I had a computer with more cajones, it would be just fine. But in the meantime, even with a little render, it works great.
7) Are you enjoying the AVCHD editing experience?
Honestly, I am still getting used to it. Like I said, I edited DV for a decade, so there are some growing pains as I had everything set-up perfectly. But I didn't feel like becoming a dinosaur where my neighbors 9 year old is shooting higher quality picture on his dad's 800 buck camcorder. So it was change or be antiquated.
If it makes you feel any better, I switched over from Avid to PP because I found that the Adobe CS pipeline was way better than any singular advantages any other isolated programs have and have had zero problems with AVCHD on any program or combination thereof within this pipeline.
What I am enjoying is the outstanding increase in image quality that AVCHD has brought over DV. I mean it is just freaking GORGEOUS by comparison. I have only used HDV once and didn't like it enough to make the switch from DV especially since it was all still outputting to regular DVD. To me it is all about familiarity. If I had stayed with that HDV format I probably would've learned to like it and use it as well. Heck, I wanted to go P2 but simply couldn't afford the camera at the time. So I settled with AVCHD. I think to truly ENJOY the experience I need a better computer because right now my computer is slower than I am and that does not make for an enjoyable editing experience.
But on the whole, yes the pros of going AVCHD outweigh the cons in my opinion and I don't see any problems on the Adobe side with handling it, just on the firepower side.
I do corporate video and mini-documentaries, weddings, etc... The longest project I edited with the format (mixed in with DV, some HDV and a wack of other odds and ends) was about 1 hour and 20 minutes. Didn't have any problems.

Apple IDs cannot be merged. You should use your preferred Apple ID from now on, but you can still access your purchased items such as music, movies, or software using your other Apple IDs.

Configure EAS to use JRE_1.6 --1.6.0_07

We are using EAS 11.1.2.1 trought the weblink http://lab1324a:10080/easconsole/console.html
We have JRE_1.6 --1.6.0_07 installed in all of our machines. If upgrading the JRE is not an option.
Can I change some configuration or properties file in the server or in my workstatoin to get teh EAS console to work with the JRE_1.6 --1.6.0_07 ?

EAS is a JNLP (Java Web Start) app that downloads its resources from the server, and does not look to the client environment for runtime libraries - so no need to upgrade anything
If you want to change the Java Version that the EAS JNLP uses, edit the <j2se version=""> tag:
E.g. <j2se version="1.6.0_07+" href="http://java.sun.com/products/autodl/j2se"/>

Missing ease-of-use features

Has anyone else noticed some obvious missing UI items in iMovie 08? I just imported 28 DV-25 tapes of data and am shocked and chagrined at the lack of fit and finish to iMovie 08. No, I don't really miss the timeline and the "newer" way of trimming clips mode is pretty cool, but....
a) Why aren't there the same Event sorting options and other Event handling in iMovie 08 as there are in iPhoto? Consistency would be good. Why can't I sort events by name for instance?
b) Why can't I change the order of Projects to at least sort in ascending or descending order? And, which order will my projects appear in at gallery.mac.com? I really want them "most recent first," but the chances of that are <= 1 on 3, I suspect.
c) Why can't I add comments to events and projects? Or, change the date of clips from within iMovie 08? I spent mega amounts of time changing the dates on many clips so that they appeared correctly in the Event Clip viewer and sorted properly in the Event Pane. How about manual manipulation?
d) Why can't I select multiple projects to publish to .Mac serially, so that I can go to bed :)?
e) Why can't I change the width of the Project and Events panes? I have long Event and Project names that I can't see in their respective browser panes.
f) Why must I start to do an export to .Mac just so that I can select which sizes to export and add comments?
g) "Import media files..." has a really bad behavior in which multiple files with names of the format <mm.dd event N.dv> actually generate the same thumbnails file when "mm" is the same. I imported four files with names {09.18 Event 1.dv, 09.18 Event 2.dv, 09.18 Event 3.dv, and 09.18 Event4. dv} which caused only one thumbnail file to be generated, named "09," used by each of the four clips. It looked really funky in Event browser - the media was right but the thumbnails were all the thumbnails of the last clip.
h) While creating titles, i noticed that sometimes the color of the title text displays white, but then renders black. Or even better, it will display white but when selected, turns to black. Very confusing.
i) And, how do I set the poster frame on a project that I publish to .mac
j) And don't even get me started on Chapter markers. Remember, too, that chapter markers are useful for web publishing, since large movies can still take some time to download.
k) Why doesn't "Import from iMovie HD..." allow to "move" or "copy" the media? I would have loved to have not had to copy the several hundred GB of video around on my system.
You might say "Use Final Cut Express," or "Use Final Cut Pro," but I purchased iMovie 08 to do just the simple stuff. items (a) through (k) aren't really "advanced editing" now, are they?
Is that enough? I feel better now, anyway .

iMovie 08 is NOT an upgrade of iMovie 06. It is a completely new application. iMovie 08 is better for absolute beginners that don't want to burn a DVD. Most others will like iMovie 06 for its far greater editing power and ease of making DVDs. (Like creating Chapter Markers and Share to iDVD.)
Most owners of iLife 08 I know use iMovie 06.
iMovie 08 is a wonderful program assuming that you're using it for what it was designed to do, assemble simple videos to share on the Internet.
Remember that Apple includes iMovie 06 as a free download to iLife 08 owners. (THEY WANT YOU TO HAVE IT!)

Has anyone found an iPhone Calendar Application that is as functional as the Palm phone Calendar standard (which is at least 12 years old & requires 1/3 the number of steps.)

Multiple Libraries for ease of use.

This topic may be a deadhorse (no offense to horses) but I was wondering if there is a way to have multiple libaries within iTunes?
Here is what I would like to do:
1. Be able to have all of my "purchased" music stored on on an ext HD. I currently have my entire library on an ext HD, but the reason I ask, is that in Backup there is no selection to backup purchased music from anywhere other than the home folder, which is on the primary HD.
2. Have a preference solution to "choose" where to store PURCHASED music, movies, music videos, audiobooks, & podcasts in different locations (independently) but still organized withing the library files in the iTunes folder that is located in the music folder.
I understand that this is mostly wishful thinking. I will submit this as feedback to Apple, but when using Feedback there is usually no response.

Thanks, I understand about using the option key when launching, but what would be most helpful is to be able to control the locations from within iTunes and not have to "switch" during startup..... I just sent the feedback to Apple, I hope that it is taken into consideration. It seems simple and something that would make iTunes more powerful. The backup feature within iTunes does not have a selection for other than burning to disk (which with my library would take many DVD-R's and even with Blueray it will take multiple disc's....)

Ease of use from ver 2 to ver 8

A long time ago I bought Elements Ver 2 and could not understand it all and returned it. I am looking for a program to edit photos like fun stuff,,adding people to other picts, changing picture sizes for a group of picts (pixels/size/names/etc), changing backgrounds etc. something a bit more than the camera and microsoft standard photo editing has to offer. Organizing and video is not a real preference to use a lot . Is the new ver 8 easier to use than the older versions? Is there another adobe product I should get instead. Thank you for anyone who can take the time to assist me.

Version 8 is easier in that it has more one-button fixes and some newer tools to help you, but there is no program from anyone where it's a snap to move a person from one photo to another. I would suggest downloading the trial for PSE 8 and seeing if you like it. There are millions of tutorials on the internet now for anything you might want to do, which wasn't the case for version 2.
Oh, and no, there's nothing simpler from adobe. You might want to look into something like Picasa if you find PSE 8 too much.
