Easier to use MBP temp monitor.

Ok it is the same one that CRYPTONOME made I just made it easier for the lamen to use.
1. Download this zip file.
2. There are 3 steps in the zip file.
3. First put the speedit file in your home directory.
4. Double click the step one file.
5. Double click the step two file.
6. Double click the MBP Temp file and your temp will show in the terminal.

Apple really needs a depot forum for whiners and
complainers, and move all the threads of that type
there.
I have ZERO problems with my MBP. I only wish I had
twice the hard drive space....
Bob
let them complain. its not a big deal. i dont know why so many people are bothered by it. You (not you specifically) dont have to read any post that you dont want. these people are doing what apple should be doing. they are doing more research to solve their problems then apple is. i think its kind of cool that they complain but now are taking it into their own hands to try and pinpoint and solve their specific problems. of course i dont agree with every post in here and some posts are worthless but its my choice if i want to read it or not. Some people cant stand reading whine posts. but when a new post pops up they feel they have to enter it and vent. its meaningless stress lol. Let the apple Discussion mods take care of all that.
i much rather read a post that might be re posted over and over then to go into a post and read people bashing it. to me thats just as bad.

  • How to use MBP with monitor?

I have a 2011 MBP 13" and want to use with a larger monitor when at home. Can I use with any other monitor or do I have to have an Apple monitor.
Ideally I would like the cheapest option but want the resolution and quality to be the same on the MBP and the monitor.
I will be using the monitor with a keyboard or mouse so the MBP can be shut!
    I will appreciate any help.

  • Using iMac as Monitor

How do I use the 2011 iMac as a monitor for a MBP? The 2011 iMac does not have a mini display port. Alternatively, how would I connect my LED Cinema Display to the iMac as a second monitor? The monitor has the mini DVI cable built right into the monitor (along with the power and USB cables).

A brand new customized 27". It can be used as a monitor, but only with a product that also has a Thunderbolt port. It no longer has the MiniDisplay port and although the MiniDisplay cable fits it is not completely compatible (that I expected—I was actually surprised that it was compatible in any way). They didn't have MiniDisplay to MiniDisplay cables (that is when the sales person went and asked for help and the Apple Genius stepped in). I was so tired with it at that point that I did not ask how they do it at the store—actually, I have not seen an iMac hooked up to anything else through Thunderbolt. The sales person mentioned that there is only the one cable available (Thunderbolt to Thunderbolt) and a new hard drive.
I'm hoping I'm not stuck with some cutting edge technology that won' take off, and
I'm a bit mystified that three people (the business account representative, today's sales person and manager) were not trained/up-to-date about this.

  • How do I hook a Mac Mini to an existing PC Laptop Dock in order to use existing 23" monitor, mouse, and keyboard?

My parents currently have a Dell Inspiron desktop (which thanks to Windows has crashed and requred re-installation of the OS and then ordering an OEM hard drive and starting from scratch). Anyway, my dad has started bringing home a work laptop, and I got him a laptop docking station so he could take advantage of the 23" monitor, keyboard, and wireless mouse that he prefers.
My brother and I are going to buy my parents at Mac Mini for Christmas.  It's probably simple (or with my luck, impossible) but I need to know what I need to know in order to also hook up the Mac Mini to the monitor/keyboard/mouse (we may buy a keyboard and mouse).  Is it just a matter of cables/splitters?
I'd appreciate any assistance.  I've been trying to get my parents switched over to Mac for almost 10 years now.  Dad is stubborn and will definitely want to use the 23" monitor he bought so I have to find a way to make that work.  The keyboard and mouse aren't a huge deal - instead of being on the drawer that rolls out from under the desk, the Mac stuff can be on top of the desk.  I just need to know if it's possible to avoid that and do everything through the docking station (even if I have to get a USB hub).  I'm pretty sure the monitor has a DVI input, and the current work laptop is using the analog input.
    Thanks all.

The Mac mini is not going to be able to use the Dell docking station itself, due to
the Mac mini is not a laptop
it does not have a docking connector
However you might be able to achieve what you want with a KVM (Keyboard, Video, and Mouse) switchbox which would sit between the dock and Mac mini and the Screen/Keyboard/Mouse.
For this to be as easy as possible, both computers need to be using the same types of connections, so that means USB for the keyboard and mouse, and ideally DVI for the monitor. I am using a dock with a Dell laptop and the dock does have a DVI connection as well as a VGA connection so yours might as well.
You would then need a KVM switchbox with USB and DVI connections. This one would be a suitable example http://www.amazon.com/TRENDnet-2-Port-Switch-Audio-TK-214i/dp/B004L62KN4/ref=sr_ 1_4?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1322228493&sr=1-4 you don't have to use the audio connections.
In theory you could use a VGA adaptor on the Mac mini to make both use VGA but widespread reports suggest VGA on the latest Mac mini is very unrealiable.

  • Need easy to use comments form to post to webpage short-term

I'm going to create a 90th birthday tribute webpage with photos etc about a former teacher. We have a past pupils (alumni) website for a now closed school. The average age of the people who visit is 55+ and have to keep it basic. I have created php forms to email for those who want to sign on to our database, label photos on the site etc. That's about all our audience can handle. The guestbook has captcha and it just confuses many users even though there are detailed instructions on how to post with photo guided tut as well!
So I want to put a form under the BD greeting part where they can enter their greeting and hit submit and not bother with captcha. I don't want them to have to register which means they won't be able to edit their comments if there's mistakes.   I'm happy to monitor it daily to weed out any spam, or more likely-- posts with errors or duplicates as it's not going to be around that long.To let people know about the page, we will do a mailing and put the link to the page in the email inviting them to sign the card using the comments form.
The idea is not to make the page public on the site's homepage until a day or two before his birthday which is in about 2 weeks. Then I plan to put an announcement on our homepage as he regularly visits the site and so it will be a surprise. Then he can visit the bd card page himself and see those who have posted their greetings, etc. Also, it will be there for anyone wants to add to the greetings and keep it open for another week. After that I will remove the form and tell people that if they want to add to the greeting, they can email us and we will post their greeting.
Someone in our group said perhaps we should just ask for greetings to be sent back to us in the email sending the link and I put them on the site, but it sort of kills the participation factor...we like people to interact with our site. There are a few we know about who will have to have us do it for them because they are not online, but on our telephone list.
Anyone have advice on how to make this really easy to use for the visitors??? Do I need to worry about script hijackers in this short time-frame?  Do I need to use Google webmaster tools to exclude it from the search engine?
Thanks so much.... Lew in Bristol UK

Look at Gentle Source's Comments script (they have front end and back end demos)

Do I need to worry about script hijackers in this short time-frame?
Any form processing script you run on your server needs to be secure.  Otherwise it's an open invitation to HACKERS and other threats that could compromise your server.  On shared hosting environments, many web hosts require you to use their scripts.  You may wish to ask your host which scripts they recommend.

  • Best options to use in Temp Table

    Hello,
I was just trying to figure out the best options we can choose with when we come across a scenario where we need to use a  Temp Table/Table Variable/Create
a Temp Table on the fly.
However, I could not see any big difference in using those options. As per my understanding using a table variable is more convenient if the query logic is
small and the result set also will be comparatively small.Creating a temp table is also an easy option but it takes much time and we can not create any indexes on it. I am working on a query optimization task where in plenty of temp tables are used
and the query takes more than five minutes to execute. We have created few indexes and all in few tables and reduced the query execution time up to 2 mnts. Can anyone give me more suggestions on it. I have gone through various articles about it and came to
know that there is no one solution for this and I am aware of the basic criteria like  use Set No count on, Order the table in which the indexes are created, Do not use Select * instead use only columns which are really required, Create Indexes
and all. Other than these I am stuck with the usage of temp tables. There are some limitations where I can convert all the Temp table logic to CTE (I am not saying its not possible, I really dont have time to spend for the conversion). Any suggestions are
    welcome.

    >> I was just trying to figure out the best options we can choose with when we come across a scenario where we need to use a Temp Table/Table Variable/Create a Temp Table on the fly. <<
Actually, we want to avoid all of those things in a declarative/functional language. The goal is to write the solution in a single statement. What you are doing is mimicking a scratch tape in a 1950's tape file system.
Another non-declarative technique is to use UDFs, to mimic 1950's procedural code or OO style methods. Your sample code is full of COBOL-isms! In RDBMS we follow ISO-11179 rules, so we have “<something in particular>_code” rather than just “code” like
a field within a COBOL record. The hierarchical record structure provides context, but in RDBMS, data elements are global.  Or better, they are universal names.
    >> I am aware of the basic criteria like use SET NO COUNT ON, Order the table in which the indexes are created, Do not use SELECT * instead use only columns which are really required, CREATE INDEXes and all.<<
All good, but you missed others. Never use the same name for a data element (scalars) and a table (sets). Think about what things like “ProductionResponse.production_response” means. A set with one element is a bit weird, but that is what you said. Also, what
is this response? A code? A count? It lacks what we call an attribute property.
This was one of the flaws we inherited when ANSI standardized SQL and we should have fixed it. Oh well, too late now.
Never use NVARCHAR(MAX). Why do you need to put all of the Soto Zen sutras in Chinese Unicode? When you use over-sized data elements, you eventually get garbage data.
    >> Other than these I am stuck with the usage of temp tables. There are some limitations where I can convert all the Temp table logic to CTE (I am not saying its not possible, I really do not have time to spend for the conversion). Any suggestions are

Yes! This is how we do declarative/functional programming! Make the effort, so the optimizer can work, so you can use parallelism and so you can port your code out of T-SQL dialect.

  • Using MBP with Viewsonic LCD

Hi, I am trying to use a ViewSonic Monitor (1680X1050, dynamic contrast 4000:1) with my MBP (leapord 10.5.2). I cannot get the colors to look normal - any suggestions?

Sure. If I am showing a slide from a presentation, the whole slide is displayed on the MBP screen but only a portion of the slide is displayed thru the LCD projector onto the screen. It looks as if the MBP display settings need to be adjusted for the presentation. I am thinking that is the problem, because I can actually click on the presentation slide displayed on the MBP and move it around the computer screen so that it is correctly displayed thru the LCD projector onto the display screen. I am just not sue which display setting I should use when projecting thru an LCD projector.

  • MBP & External monitor orientation

    Hello All,
I would like to use an external monitor with the MBP with a different orientation i.e. the MBP runs on landscape (default/normal), I would like the external monitor to have a Potrait orientation.
I have done this with a couple of PC's, am sure its possible with the MBP -- just wanted to double check?
    Thanks,

Yup - just tested - my MBP and Viewsonic VP2030b did this with standard Apple software and drivers.
Just select the "Rotate" dropdown on the second monitor once attached.

  • Recommendations for server rack temp monitoring?

Our server room isn't large, we only have one rack with two Xserves, an Xserve RAID and a few other things. But temperature is obviously a concern and I worry about the day when the portable AC unit kicks the bucket and I'm away from the office.
Does anyone have recommendations some kind of temp monitoring device with email notifications, maybe web monitoring?

At work, we use a rack-mount Senturion Environment Monitor, it monitors the temp, humidity, etc. It can send SMS and email alerts, and you can monitor it on the web, it just needs power and a network connection. We got it when our AC actually did kick the bucket and 50 servers overheated. :-/

  • Use ChangeWatcher to monitor change of variables

  • Using MBP As A Desktop

    Hi,
Can I "add a 27' display" to my MBP, and use it as a "desktop"?
"What will I need to purchase to link the "display" and the "MBP"? Can I find them online at Apple Store?
    Thanks.
    Ed

Yes you can use an external monitor, keyboard and mouse and keep the lid of the MBP closed, known as 'Clamshell Mode'. Or, you can just connect the external monitor and have it either mirror your laptop desktop or extended desktop (across both screens)
The adapter and cable required will depend on the exact inputs available on your monitor, VGA or HDMI or DVI-D are the most likely.
Check out the Apple Store options here once you know what the monitor has:

As an all in one, I'm concerned about heat build up, since I'm using it all day.

Have you tried SIW? (System Information for Windows by Gabriel Topala) I highly recommend it. Go to the sensors page after you open it, and then It should tell you.
Please give Kudos. What other kind of recognition could I get?

  • Temp Monitoring on 975x PUE

Hey all, my specs are in my sig. I'm wondering how best to measure North Bridge/South Bridge temps on this board. Everyone recommends different things, and I hear Everest from lots of people, but I tried it and everything seemed a little out of whack. Does anyone with this board have any known solutions?
Currently I'm using RivaTuner to monitor all temperatures: CPU0, CPU1, Core (that's VGA), Ambient (I THINK that's just on the video card but i'm not so sure, they're almost the same always), and HDD0 and HDD1 using SMART.
Also, what are safe temperatures (conservative and normal) for NB and SB?
    Thanks a lot

Okay, then I'll just trust that it's all good.. Thanks as always

  • If it is THAT easy to display the temps on 6600GT cards.......

......then why doesn't MSI officially develop a BIOS that supports displaying temperatures by default?
I am not the one to risk his warranty by doing things described here. But I definitely will buy my next video card from another company if I have the feeling that my wishes as a customer are consequently being ignored.

That's debateable, however, common sense dictates ommitting that information in an RMA, including flashing the BIOS back to the original, if possible.
I wouldn't wanna risk it, there is always a slight chance that by flashing, you destroy that device, even if it is not very probable. Now I personally have paid more than 200€ for that card, that's alot of money for me, and too much in order to do any things that probably could void my warranty. I think it would be alot easier and safe for us, and it would improve the way people look at msi if there was an official update from the manufacturer.
Sorry for repeating myself, but the only interesting question that remains is: if it is so easy to get the temp, then why doesn't MSI do it, and why don't they give any statement on that topic?
