Easier was to authorize iPod with iTunes music?

I posted this on iTunes group on Sat. 9/22, but no answer - so I'll try here -
I have always had my iTunes Music Folder on an external hard drive – when I got my 1st 20 GB iPod, I was using an iMac G3 with a 12GB HD, so I bought an external Firewire HD just for that reason. I have moved this external to an iMac G5, and to my current Power Mac G4 (with major upgrades to processor, video, RAM, etc.), all with no problems. I have upgraded my iPod to a 60GB Color model in between all these moves, and have never had problems associating the iPod with these various computers. I recently (last weekend) upgraded the internal HD on the Power Mac G4, and installed OSX on it – then pointed iTunes to the Music Folder on the external and updated the Library. No problems so far. Then yesterday, I imported 2 new CD’s to iTunes and tried to transfer the new tracks to my iPod – and I get the message about how this iPod is synced to another iTunes Library, and do I want to erase the iPod and sync with this Library. The only thing that has changed is the internal HD with the controlling OS and iTunes (7.4.1 – yeah, I “upgraded”) – the Music Folder is still on the external HD. Isn’t there an easier way to associate the iPod with this new Library other than erasing the iPod and copying back the music? I don’t remember having to do this nonsense in the past with older versions of iTunes. There’s only 2CD’s worth of difference between the Library and the iPod – and the problem for me is this – the Power Mac G4, with all it’s upgrades, is still a USB 1 machine (no problems for most things, like CD & DVD burning and external HD's, since Firewire 400 is more than adequate, but the dock iPods only use USB). Copying 6,000+ songs via USB 1 is going to take all night (plus all the stuff that can go wrong with a file transfer of that duration).
Any ideas?
Robert
Note: the music (the mp3's) have always been on an external drive - and I've never had problems associating the iPod with them before - changing computers, hard drives, etc. The iPod has ALWAYS been associated with these files. Recreating the Music Library (on the local drive) never caused a problem either. Of course, I was using an earlier version of iTunes, not this new "dictatorial" version (where the Library now determines the association) - and as I said, erasing and copying 27+ GB of music on my iPod via USB 1 will take awhile - by my quick calculations - approx. 36 HOURS! 99.9% of this music is from my own CD's (I think that I bought 2 albums and a few songs from iTunes store). The 2 CD's that I want to add to my iPod are mine - I bought them. Why do I have to go through this s**t to get them on my iPod?

It's as easy as it always was; in fact the process is exactly the same as it always has been. The only difference is where you select the iOS device, which in the default view is a button in the header bar, e.g:
Have you tried clicking that? Alternatively, you can go to the View menu and select "Show Sidebar" and the interface will then look almost exactly like in previous versions of iTunes.
Regards.

  • Copyright Question - two ipods with iTunes Music

I apologize if this was answered in an FAQ or some other obvious place. I have googled around and can't seem to find the answer.
I have just purchased my wife an iPod for Christmas, making us a two iPod household (including mine). Until this point my wife and I have shared music CDs. She would keep one for a bit in the car or at the house and after a bit I would take it and listen to it in my car, at the gym etc.
How do we do this with iTunes? If I purchase an Album on iTunes, can I listen to it for a while on my iPod and then somehow transfer it to her account for her to then listen to for a while on her iPod? Does the copyright regulations of iTunes allow for sharing music around on different iPods?
Thanks in advance for any assistance. We do try our best to stay legal on all fronts in the digital age!

Thanks for the speedy answer to a newb! So far the wife and I are LOVING our iPODs, and due to the quality of the nano Gen4 (they are SOLID) are considering our first MAC purchase (heck I have wanted to go MAC since Windows Me )
Just so I understand, if I copied the iTunes my wife purchased onto a thumb drive, then put the drive in my PC and opened itunes and did Add to Library, I could then select that drive and import them in? And I could then sync those iTunes to my iPod?
    Thanks again!!

I was sycing my ipod with my computer to get a new album and itunes prompted me saying that there was a previous account for the ipod or something and if I should carry on and deletle it or cancel the sync. I wanted the album so I clicked carry on and delete the account. When I checked my ipod afterwards all almost all of my music was gone exept for what I had just downloaded. This was thosands of songs that I had carefully picked over the years and now they are all gone. Someone please help me!!!

Get all that music back in itunes and sync again.

  • How can I replace all music on my iPod with the music in my iTunes Library?

My iPod Touch (5th Generation) contains all the music that I purchased on iTunes with my previous iPod. I managed to transfer all music, including those from CDs, from my old iPod onto iTunes (newest version), so I figured that I would sync my iPod to retrieve them. However, every time I sync my iPod with my music library, I get duplicates of the purchases that my iPod contains, but not of those from CDs. When I go onto the "Music" section in my iPod, no items are shown. I have all the music that I want sorted out in my iTunes Library, so I want to replace only the music on my iPod with the music in the Library. How do I do this, or at least delete the music on my iPod (but not iTunes) so I can sync the entire music library later?

Correction: The music on my iPod doesn't show up in the "Music" section in "iPod" in iTunes.

  • When I try to sync my iPod with iTunes I can't because it says it's over capacity. It's not. It's a 16 GB iPod, it's only 105 songs on there. No movies or pictures or such. Anybody got a word of advise?

Anybody got a word of advise? I've tried resetting the iPod but get the message that it's not possible cause i'm not connected to internet. I am though. Tried managing music manually. I've tried all the usual stuff.

Go to Settings > General > Usage and see how much is shown available and how much is in "Other".

  • How do I transfer music from my ipod to my computer without replacing the music on my ipod with the music on my computer?

How do I transfer music from my ipod to my computer without replacing the music on my ipod with the music on my computer?

You can't do that with iTunes (except for songs you purchased from the iTunes Store).  However, there are third-party methods and utilities that can transfer songs files from iPod to computer.  If you do a Google search on something like "ipod transfer," you should get some links.
Once the songs files are on your computer, add them to your iTunes library.  Then, you can sync your iPod to that iTunes library, as desired.

  • Every time I repair my iPod with iTunes, it hangs at the end of the process (while checkin the recovery of iPod). What can I do?

every time I repair my iPod with iTunes, it hangs at the end of the process (while checkin the recovery of iPod). What can I do?

I chose to restore it to factory defaults, but that never succeeded.
It hangs at the end of the process.
    printscreen:

    Language is Dutch :-)
    Littery it says:
    Check of Recovery of iPod.
    Already for 40 minutes.
    I closed down iTunes.
Now, when I turn on my iPod, there is the icon of iTunes with an usb cable towards it.
When I attach it to my computer and turn on iTunes, the message is there that a iPod was stuck in recovery mode and I should retry it.
And then I get the same story. Unpacking, installing, checking... blocked!

  • TS1368 don't have PC right now - is there any other way to synch my iPod with iTunes?

This is likely a dumb question but I need to ask...
I am in between PC's, meaning I don't currently have a home computer (actually looking to purchase a MacBook but not for another 1-2 months).  I want to synch my iPod with the music we've been purchasing via my iPad.
I am figuring it is possible to go to a friend's house and use their computer to access my iTunes account and synch...is there any other way?  Just asking, just in case...
    Thanks so much!

The only way to clear off the passcode is to restore the device.  You could always try the restore process on another computer that has iTunes just to get the iPod working again, then you could plug it back into your comptuer to sync all of his content back on the iPod.

  • Problem with album picture on iPod with iTunes 10.2.2.14

I'm using iTunes 10.2.2.14 on windows xp (service pack3) with iPod classic 80Gb.
In iTunes I have 14.000 songs. Most of them with album illustration.
In iTunes these illustrations are available.
On my iPod I can se the covers
On my iPod Classic in [music] [cover flow] view, I see the album pictures
On my iPod Classic in [music] [[Albums] view, no picture is show at all.
When playing the indivualnumber for each album,
I will NOT see the album cover for the first song in that album
However, I do see the albumcovers for the subsequent numbers.
Missing the album for the first song, I can understand the view-per-album does not show any picture
Mostlikely because it will take the album picture from the first song.
But why is is missing with (all) first songs ?
I checked Itunes; the album cover is there.
I have de-installed en installed iTunes.
    I have emptied the iPod.
I have reload all the songs in iTunes.
    All without result.
An so strange; the same effect for all albums.
Somebody suggestions what the cause is ?
Or how I can overcome / repair this ?
    Andre

If your iPod is set to update automatically then try this:
    1. Connect your iPod
    2. Disable "Show Album art" in iTunes>Edit>Preferences>iPod.
    3. Syncronise the iPod with iTunes. (Disconnecting and then reconnecting your iPod will do the trick)
    4. Re-enable "Show Album Art" in iTunes>Edit>Preferences>iPod.
    5. Syncronise the iPod again.

  • Each time i try syncing my ipod with itunes, it freezes itunes and i end up having to shut down my computer.  This happened after the latest download, any suggestions?

each time i try syncing my ipod with itunes, it freezes itunes and i end up having to shut down my computer.  This started happening after the latest download and my latest purchase.  The latest purchase doesn't show up on my iPod and itunes freezes at synching step 2 on 2.  Any suggestions?

You should Reset your iPod, by
    1. Press Menu and Center button simultaneously for about 10 Secs till the Apple Logo comes ON.
    2. Disconnect the sync cable.
    3. Check the iPod Welcome screen, select language, go to menu (if you are lucky, your music are still on the iPod.)
if your iPod doesn't show the Welcome screen, bring it to Apple Store.
If the above is okay, (can see Menu but no Music)
    4. Close iTunes and Reboot your PC.
    5. Start iTunes
    6. Connect the iPod to the Sync cable.
    7. if iTunes ask to Restore, please do so.
    8. Sync your iPod. ( I would advise you to disconnect from Internet and stop the Antivirus program when doing this.)
    Good Luck.

  • Cannot sync ipod with itunes after setting up new computer with newest version of itunes

Cannot sync ipod with itunes after setting up on new computer, only songs which tansferred were songs bought on new computer after set up, tried to sync songs and it deleted old songs from ipod.  How can I get them back on ipod??  They are showing in music library on itunes still.

If the iPod database gets corrupted, it will add files to "Other" instead of where they really belong.
Restoring the iPod will erase this database and recreate it.
And if I do this, won't I just have the same issue when my iPod is re-updated to the most recent version again?
No, it shouldn't. This is why you Restore the iPod. It erases the corrupt database.
