Easier way to set audio levels?

I found that various clips that I had cut together had WILDLY varying audio levels. At first, I tried to drag the volume meter for the audio track around, but that had no effect at all (kind of weird if you ask me). Then I discovered the "audio gain" feature, which does what I want. Sadly, it makes me enter a number, and that's largely a guessing game for me. Is there any way I can either get to visually decide how the audio wave should look like (roughly, of course) or simply tell Premiere Pro to "use the same level as this clip"?

Why don't you use some of the normalization features. You can right click and tell the audio files, select all of them at once, to normalize peaks to a certain level. Then all files are starting from roughly the same point. You can also use the volume handles on the clips to adjust their volume.

    You don't add every JAR for every project to a system CLASSPATH. You should be doing it on a project-by-project basis, preferrably with a script or an Ant build.xml.
    Doing it with a system environment variable makes your apps less portable, because now you depend on the target machine being set up in a particular way. You should figure out how to package your apps appropriately so clients don't have to worry about that setup issue.

  • Best way to increase audio level

    I am thinking of two ways to increase audio level on a FCE project. One is to copy the audio track and duplicate it on an another audio track. The other is to increase the level of the existing audio track (modify>levels . . . ). Which do you folks out there think is best? Thanks in advance!

    Thanks again Tom.
    I am just putting together a classroom video. I used four cameras. I edited it all down, and moved everything to one video track. I chose the best audio track and am using that. So I'll probably just go with relative. And it appears I don't really have to choose the audio track when adjust level, as there is only one (well, two, but it is a stereo pair). I just go to modify>levels . . . and then move the slider over a bit, and that seems to modify the levels fine without any track selected.

  • Setting audio level points?

    I am trying to change the level of an audio in a sequence. I double clicked the audio clip to open the waveform in the Viewer. I know there is a way to select various spots on the audio waveform and mark them. Then you can drag the audio level line to a new setting to adjust that part of the waveform. But I don't know how to create the spots on the waveform. I can't find the answer in the Help manual.
    Thanks for any info.

    You need to select the Pen Tool which is to the right of the timeline.
    You can also do it by pressing p
    Then click the pink "level" line of the audio and a keyframe will be created. Click further along and you can drag the sound up or down etc.

  • Easy way to mute audio on multiple clips in PRE 10?

    In the process of creating my movie and experimenting with different sound tracks, I would like to temporarily mute the audio on multiple clips, but I can’t find a convenient way to do it.  I don’t want to delete the audio as I may revert back to using it.  I am aware of two methods, however both can only be used with a single clip.  (I want to do in a single operation with multiple clips).
    Method 1:           Unlink audio and video, then disable audio track.
    Method 2:           Right click on clip, select Audio Gain, and set gain level to -96 db.
    Both of these methods are tedious when you need to apply them to many clips, and equally so if you want to revert back to the original.

    You are correct that the Audio Mixer handles Tracks. It's the same thing with the Keyframes and adjustments made via Audio Mixer. That was why I suggested placing selected Clips on selected Tracks.
    When I am doing heavy Audio work, I always use multiple Audio Tracks, as that allows me infinite control. I also change the names of those Audio Tracks so that I know exactly what's one each, say "Lake Ambience Dusk," "Loon Near," "Loon Far," Frogs," "Crickets," "Music," "Narration," etc.. Then each Track can be adjusted, precisely, and I can also add Track Keyframes, via the Audio Mixer, to adjust Volume of each Track. Since the Audio Mixer applies Track Keyframes (not Clip Keyframes), I do that as my final step, when I have completed my actual Cutting and Trimming. Next to prehaps final scoring, this set of adjustments is the last thing that I do.
    Good luck,

  • Any way to increase audio level of your movie?

    I've uploaded a taped video into iMovie and when I play it back, the volume level is too low (I can hear it but it's not loud). I've increased the system pref vol, the vol level, and the volume level in iMovie so everything has been turned all the way up.
    I saw where you can extract the audio. What can you do with it when you extract it? Incresase it? And if you can increase it, how would you add the audio back to the movie?
    What I want to know is, is there another way to increase the volume if you've turned up all the computer volume controls and it's too low?
    Mark

    The best place to increase / adjust audio levels assuming the source video footage has something to work with is in the video editing app. Have you tried posting this question to the iMovie forum?
    If your iMovie has low audio levels to start with then this will also be reflected w/in iDVD if no adjustments are made beforehand. Hope this makes sense.
    Also check in the iMovie Help Menu if you haven't already:
    I can't hear the audio in my movie
    If you can't hear some or all of the audio in your movie, here are some things you can check:
    Make sure your computer's volume is turned up. Use the speaker controls on your keyboard or the volume slider in the menu bar.
    Use the volume slider below the iMovie monitor to increase the movie volume.
    Make sure the audio checkbox is selected for the track you want to hear. The audio checkbox is to the right of each track in the timeline viewer.
    If the audio checkbox is selected, then choose View > Show Clip Volume Levels and see if the audio levels for the tracks are set to a level that can be heard.
    Making your movie louder or softer
    If you find that all or part of your movie is too loud or too soft, you can adjust the volume of your movie in the timeline viewer. You can increase or decrease the volume of the entire movie or just specific audio clips. For example, at a certain point in a video you might dramatically increase or decrease the volume of accompanying music.
    IMPORTANT: These instructions are for setting the volume of video that people will hear as they play your movie. If you only want to adjust the volume of your computer's speakers, see "Adjusting the volume of your computer in iMovie HD" below.
    To make your movie louder or softer:
    Click the Timeline Viewer button (shown above).
    Select the clip or clips whose volume you want to change in the timeline viewer.
    Tip: To learn how to select multiple clips, see "Selecting clips" below.
    Click the clip volume button (shown below), and then drag the slider to adjust the volume.
    Tip: You can also type a new percentage in the field next to the clip volume button to adjust volume.
    You can also make finer audio adjustments within a clip. For more information, see "Fading audio up or down."

  • Any easier way to set due dates?

    By and large, I'm pretty happy with the functionality of iCal, even if it's a bit basic. But setting due dates on to dos and events is very frustrating!
    Let's say you add a new to do, then click the due date box. Today's date is filled in, say, 26/08/2007 in my part of the world. I want to schedule the to do for next month. To change it you click on the day part, enter a number (say, 08), then tab or click on the month part. At this time the iCal display jumps to 08/08/2007 (in the past!). Now I get to manually type in the new month, 9, and press Return or tab and things are good again. It's all kind of long-winded and messy. What's sorely needed is a drop-down calendar picker, or the ability to click on the existing calendar at the left to pick a date.
    Does anyone know of any easier way to enter due dates? I've even looked for external programs that handle to do functionality, but can't find any that automatically sync changes to iCal for syncing to my Palm Treo. Anyone know if iCal in Leopard is any better in this regard?
    Thanks in advance!

    I couldn't agree more. I can't believe that this has escaped Apple for so long, and didn't even make it into Leopard. Let's say its the middle of November and I want to schedule a to-do due date for the end of the week, say Friday, second week of December. I do this all the time. Sorry, but I can't do the math this quickly, so I need to open up a calendar, or scroll down the calendar, then enter the exact date manually.
    Just give me a quick pop-up. Travel web sites do this. Now Up To Date in 1992 had drop down calendars. So does Entourage, which is what I use ONLY because of this one glaring pain. Entering due dates, reminders, etc, is just a pain in iCal, and even worse now in Mail.

  • Is there any easier way to set as homepage

    Is there an easy way to ask our users to set my website [http://www.itsmysearch.com] (or any other page on that website) as Homepage.
    I mean, currently i ask users to 'drag the link' on their homepage icon. But isn't there a way so that, they just click on a link, and set the page as thr homepage?

    Yes, take a look at this JS code:
    function bookmark(){
    var title = 'Title of Bookmark';
    var url = 'http://yourdomain.com';
    if (document.all)
    window.external.AddFavorite(url, title);
    else if (window.sidebar)
    window.sidebar.addPanel(title, url, "")
    else if (window.sidebar&&window.sidebar.addPanel)
    window.sidebar.addPanel(title,url,"");
    And call it like:
    <a href="javascript:bookmark()">Bookmark this site</a>
    I'm experimenting with it on my [http://www.myoutfitis.com/ fashion inspiration] site and it seems to be working well.

  • Easy way to trim audio files?

    I am trying to create a movie with reeldirector, and I would like to use segments of 3 different songs, but I cannot trim the audio to the proper length. Anyone know an easy way to either a)edit the audio with reeldirector, or b)create a new song file that is a trimmed version of the original. I would like to do this on my iPhone 4 and not deal with iTunes.

    There is currently no way to trim audio files with reeldirector, but I found a workaround. I had to cut each audio file to length using the free program Audacity (I use a PC). The shortened songs could then be inserted into reeldirector at the appropriate times. iTunes could cut the song to length, but it does not change the time stamp of the song. This caused problems when I imported into reeldirector. It was much easier to cut the song in Audacity, and then import to iTunes, and then to my iPhone. It was the long way around, but the final result is very nice.

  • Easy way to adjust dialog levels?

    Greetings fellow FCPers,
    I mainly use FCP to edit picture & music.  Today, I am working on a piece with sync dialog sent to me from all different sources, all levels of quality from poor to decent.  It's for someone's birthday.  Has someone come up with a "for idiots" solution, like apply one filter, and it goes through all the dialog track and tries to eqalize and adjust all the volume levels?  It would be swell.  Otherwise, I'll just tweak those little dots and lines by hand.
    THANKS!
    DaveB

    This should help
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-2871
    That said, I always find doing this manually is the best way.  Remember that you can select a clip in the timeline, play that section of the timeline and hit ctrl+ and ctrl- to adjust audio levels by 1 db on the fly.  This will only adjust the level of the entire clip in the timeline.  Keyframing is often necessary within a clip.

  • Cannot set audio level to zero

    Hi,
    I know how to edit the audio levels and have no trouble setting it, from 0% to 150%.
    With the video clips this works fine. I can go from complete silence to full volume.
    When I try this with an audio only track, I can set the fader from 0% to 150%. The audio gets louder as I increase the percentage. When I set the percentage to zero however, I can still hear the audio. It's softer, but still there.
    I've tried using the "fade" feature, dragging the line from starting level down to zero. The audio fades, but not to complete silence. I'd say the level is equivalent to the 10-15% level I get when fading video.
    I have iMovie version 5.0.2.
    Any and all suggestions appreciated!

    Hi,
    The audio clip contains only music. The video clip contains only spoken word. It was a good idea though!

  • Setting audio levels

    I must adjust the audio of several videos partly to make the clips in each video sound at the same sort of level, and to avoid distortion or startling viewers on loud bits. The video will be distributed using DVD Studio Pro 3. I have read:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=7025739&#7025739
    which recommends -12 db for the average level. In a typical example of the videos, if I reduce my levels to that average (-12 db) the repeated peaks (cattle mooing and banging and clanging into metal barriers at a cattle market) go to 0 db and the quiet parts go to -18 db.
    Does that seem correct for a viewer watching the DVD on a TV set without his/her having to set the TV's volume control up or down to get a volume level normal for TV viewing?
    Thanks.

    It's not that big a difference. A live orchestra has a greater dynamic range. -12db is a good reference for the average level of your audio. If you're really really worried about this and you have FCE4 you could try applying the Normalize filter to your audio.

  • Easy way to set interpolation on keyframes?

    Say you have text flying in using scale and you want it to start out fast and slow down. When you go in and select Bezier for interpolation, you have to set the curve for the x,y,and z parameters. It is hard to select the right parameter and you have to end up turning the other two off to select the right one. Is there a way to select all (x,y,z) and move the Bezier curve for all at once?
    Thanks,
    John

    just drag-slect the point in the KF editor. All 3 KF will be selected and u can ctrl click it for bezier. They'll be all 3 set and u can drag the handle for all 3.
    In Motion u always have to drag select them to have them all.

  • Easy way to set volume to vibrate

    I just upgraded from the Droid Razr.  One of the features I really liked was the ability to just touch the power button and on the lock screen was the ability to switch from volume to vibrate, without having to use the volume keys.  I can't find this ability on the turbo, anyone know a way?

  • Easier way to set post-constructor JTable column names?

    I have a class that extends JTable. It also has a pair of inner classes that extend DefaultTableCellRenderer and AbstractTableModel so I can dynamicaly adjust the number of rows and their contents. That's not the problem - that part works fine. The problem is the column headers. My table doesn't currently have any but I want to add them.
    The column quantity is constant at 3 and should always be the same 3 Strings. It would be nice if I could use the JTable constructors that take a Vector or Object[] of column names from the start in my new class' constructor. But I don't think I can because at that point I don't know how many rows there will be or what they'll contain. Trying to set rowData to null just caused runtime exceptions.
    So the alternative seems to be to call setColumnModel() within the constructor, passing it a DefaultTableColumnModel. Which then requires I call addColumn() three times. Each time passing it a new TableColumn object. Each of which requires that I separately call setHeaderValue() after I construct it to set the header name. Am I right in that is the only way to do it? It just seems overly complex.

    I'll post a streamlined version of my class in case that will help...
    public class TotalsTable extends JTable
