Easiest way of bringing audio files from pro tools to logic w/o using omf

I have a session recorded in pro tools that I am trying to get in logic so I can mix, since logic has way more plug-ins than pro tools but when I import the audio files they all start at 1. I need the files to show up where they were recorded at in pro tools. I tried putting these files in the audio bin first and bringing to the arraange but they still started at 1. Can I get logic to this? if not does anyone know a work around?

You need to consolidate the files in Pro Tools first, so they are all starting from the same point.
From within Pro Tools... select al the regions in Pro Tools, (make sure all tracks are selected) ,place the curser at the end of the song, hold down the shift key, and hit return. This will select the whole session, form bar 1, beat 1.
At this point, if there are tracks with many edits, I will first duplicate them (option/shift/3). These duplicated tracks are then pre-selected for you, and you can go ahead and consolidate them to a folder of your choosing by hitting command/shift/K.
Then open a new Logic song, and add these files to the audio bin. Place them on the arrange page, all starting from bar 1, beat 1, and they'll all play in perfect sync.
I do this frequently, btw, and it works 100% of the time, with absolutely no problems.

  • NEED HELP TRANSFERING FROM PRO TOOLS TO LOGIC!!!!!!!

Hey this is my first post, so hello to everyone on the boards. My question is that I am going into the studio to record live drums this weekend in a studio using pro tools, however i'm doing everything else at home, so i was wondering if anyone knows how i can transfer the audio files from pro tools on one computer to logic on mine. Also, please let me know if it works the other way as well, because i'm going back in to record vocals in the studio. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!! THANKS!!!!!

Best way to do this is to "consolidate" the files in PT so that they all start on bar 1, beat 1. Once you do this you can be assured that all files are aligned to start at the same point. Copy the files over to your Logic compute, drag them all into Logic's arrange window and then slide them all to 1 1 1 1. You're good to go.

  • Time to switch from Pro Tools to Logic?

The more I work with Final Cut X the more I don't like the Pro Tools interface. I'm repeatedly finding myself automatically using the Final Cut keyboard shortcuts for navigation, and of course they don't work. Is the Logic interface more similar to that of Final Cut X?

    1) For some reason Kore and Motu Symphonic Orchestra aren't showing up in my instruments. When I click and hold the track where I can insert the instrument there is no Motu folder. There is a native instruments folder but kore isn't in there. I've checked both 32bit and 64bit floders for both. How do I get them to show up?
Logic only eats AudioUnits. Are you sure you have the AU versions installed?
    2) When I import an Audio File into a logic session i'm getting "Error while trying to synchronize Audio and MIDI. Sample Rate 23938 recognized.Check conflict between Logic Pro and external device" When I playback the imported audio file it sounds terrible it sounds like it plays back at half speed with lots and lots of artifacts. My session setup is at 48K but and so was the audio going in. I wasn't sure what to check for when it was referring to "check conflict between LP and Extern Device"
Check the Audio MIDI Setup utility or the audio interface's own tool and change clock from back and forth from and to what it should be.

  • How to "Export All Tracks as Audio Files" in Pro Tools?

I have a Pro Tools session that I want to mix in Logic. So I need to bounce all tracks as audio files like Logic's "Export All Tracks as Audio Files" command. Does anyone know if this is possible in PT, or do I need to bounce one track at a time (in realtime!)?

Sorry, but the previous answers are not quite correct. Consolidate tracks will only merge all your edits and fades and make a new audio file out of it. It wont consolidate any automation or insert effects. The same is true for exporting audio from the regions pane. Therefore you still have to perform a "bounce to disk" in order to consolidate properly. So no it doesn't have the "Export All Tracks as Audio Files" option......
    Christian,
When "exporting" from one DAW to another, it's generally understood that automation and plug-ins will not be included.
Exporting from Pro Tools does indeed bounce the files to disk. We aren't talking about a stereo mix here. We're talking about exporting all the individual tracks. Are have I misunderstood you?
.... which leads me on to this question. How long has logic had the "Export All..." function as I have been performing "track lays" (i.e. getting my logic stuff ready for a pro-tools mix) for films that can often take days to perform and am embarrassed to stumble across this option on this forum as I fear I may have cost myself several weeks of my life working the long way round!!!
"Export All tracks as Audio Files" was introduced in version 7.0.
Don't feel too ashamed though. I have a good friend, who has been using Logic daily as long as I have (8 years or so now), who only 3 months ago, saw me utilizing that feature, and his jaw dropped. He too, had been wasting "weeks" of his life, doing it the way you have been doing it. : )
You're gonna absolutely LOVE using that feature from this day forward...!

  • Easiest way to chop audio files by beat

So, I'm trying to take a section of audio within Logic and chop it into parts. For simplicities sake, we'll say 16 parts, what would be the easiest way to do this?
I've tried doing a "cut by playhead" but I also am not sure of how to change my grid to align with 16th notes....
There's got to be an easier way.
My end hope is to import the sections into the EXS24, do you think I'd be better off using Audacity or ReCycle to do this?

You can use the strip silence function from the Audio menue which will slice your Audio file into segments following the transients - adjust the settings to your needs and go ahead. Your original Audio file will be sliced into seperate regions - if you convert those regions to new audio files (select all slices->control+f->save as new audio files) you can import the new files directly into EXS by dragging and dropping them.

  • Opening Logic Files with Pro Tools/Mbox 2 Micro to Use 'Beat Detective'

    Is this possible?
Just wanna tighten up some acoustic drum tracks
    with Beat Detective.
If so, will I be able to use the new Mbox 2 Micro?
    Thanks a bunch...

this is the correct procedure, as stated make SURE they all start from '0' and that you have the correct tempo entered in protools, and not JUST in the transport bar, but in the main tempo track itself.
also, im assuming you know the limitations of PT LE's beat detective (only one stereo or mono track at a time) unless you have the Music Prod or the Complete Production Toolkit. but there are workarounds to make it work, youll have to check the Digi user confrence boards for that. the to go back to logic you just consolidate the files starting at '0' and export them out.

  • How do I export detached audio files as separate files, for Pro Tools processing?

My project is a live band performance. I have every song as a separate Event with associated audio. I have detachd all the audio from all the video Events. I now want to Export the audio files to Pro Tools for editing, then Import the edited audio back into FCP X and snap the edited audio to the associated video Events.
My problem is this: FCP X keeps exporting the audio as a single large WAV file, rather than as separate WAV files. In fact, the video events are separate, and so the audio associated with the video Events are separate.
I first renamed the Role of every audio file as "Music", then did a Share --> Export Media of all "Music" audio Roles. After exporting, I found it was one large WAV file, rather than separate files of different sizes.
As a 2nd try, I created Sub-Roles for each audio clip, and named each one with a distinct Sub-Role name. I then Exported all these Sub-Roles (yes, tedious). The result was that every exported WAV file was the same size, the same as the file size in my first try. The only audio that could be heard in each file was the audio in that particular song, but FCP X still created the very large file with silence in all the rest of the file. Since the file lengths don't match the original audio fil lengths, there will be a problem when I Import the edited files back into FCP X and want to Snap them into place.
    Question:
How can I export the individual detached audio clips as separate files, the length of each file equaling the length of the original audio file in FCP X?
Do I need to separate the detached audio into separate Layers visually in the Project Timeline, so they are not touching? Or does this matter?
    Help!!

    No.
You need to explore Compound Clips. This workflow may or may not be of help.
Select an Event with clips in it and press Option+G to make a (blank) compound clip.
Select the Event Browser, create a new Event and call it 'Effects'.
Drag the Compound Clip into this Event.
Right-click the clip and select 'Open in Timeline'.
Select the timeline and press Option+W. This will add a Gap Clip to the timeline.
Select the gap clip and press Ctrl+D then type in the duration you want the clip to be.
Now open a project and select and copy one of the clips with effects etc.
Open the Compound Clip in the Timeline again, select the gap clip and press Option+Cmd+V to paste the effects into your Compound Clip.
This clip is now saved in your Browser and will remain there for you to copy and then paste the effects into any clip in any project.
It's a bit clunky, but it works - and once you learn about Compound Clips, you can work wonders with them. As an example, if you want to add more effects without overwriting the effects in the Compound Clip, simply make the Compound Clip into a Compound Clip (again) and add the effects. They will be added to the original effects.

    Hi,
    Question:
    1. You have a folder for each DVD whose video contents you edited.
    Answer: Yes
    Question:
You talk about projects 34, 35, 36, 37. Are these projects associated with only one specific DVD?
What is supposed to be in each project - just edited VTS_01_1.VOB or edits from the others in the series
    such as VTS_01_2.VOB, VTS_01_3.VOB, etc.
    Answer:
Project 34 has edited Premiere Elements file 34 and the VOB files (VST_01_1.VOB, VTS_01_2.VOB, etc) from DVD#34
Project 35 has edited Premiere Elements file 35 and the VOB files (VST_01_1.VOB, VTS_01_2.VOB, etc) from DVD#35
Project 36 has edited Premiere Elements file 36 and the VOB files (VST_01_1.VOB, VTS_01_2.VOB, etc) from DVD#36
    etc.
    Question:
    2. If you screen each DVD video file VOB for a given DVD disc, does the content follow sequentially and cleanly?
    Answer:
    Yes
When I run the VST_01_1.VOB, VTS_01_2.VOB, etc from each project the audio and the video are clean and match.
When I run the edited Premiere Elements file that were created after project 34 edited Premiere Elements file project 35, 36, 37 etc. I am getting the audio from project 34
When I run the edited Premiere Elements file that were created  before project 34 edited Premiere Elements file project 1, 2, all the way to 33. I am getting the correct audio
    Thanks,

  • Any easy guide from Pro Tools Editing to Logic Editing?

    Hi,
I am new here. Just switched from Pro Tools to Logic.
Is there an easy guide to translate from one to the other?
I am having some specific problems.
When I try to select with the pointer tool it just drags the whole region. How do I select a section like I do in Protools?
Why do the edits not show up in the sample editor?
Why are the edit tools different in the sample editor window...for example...why can't I use the scissors tool thre?
Is there something comparable to the smart tool in Pro-tools? I am finding I have to go up and click on the tool list every time and it is time consuming. Is there a list of key commands?
I am sure I have even more questions but that should suffice for now.
    Thanks!
    Celia

Here's so more stuff to not take personally:
Read the manual. Complex tasks demand complex tools and complex tools aren't always intuitive.
If I understand your first question correctly, you want to select just a portion of a region while in the arrange screen. If so try esc-E, this will bring up the "marquee" tool. I think that's the one you want for selecting material to cut, copy, etc.
I don't do a lot of sample editing, but I've done enough to know that the sample system really requires the manual for a full understanding. Different screens are used for different activities. Mostly the sample remains the sample and onlly the reference to the sample is modified, truncated, clipped and so forth. Though it's possible, you mostly don't make destructive editing on the sample directly.
Regarding tool access: You can get to them a number of ways. Esc-key calls up the list, you can click one or you can type the associated call-up number/letter. Additionally you can right cllick and it will use the secondary tool. The secondary (and the primary left click tool as well) can also be selected in the upper right hand area just above the main arrange window.
But really, sooner or later, if you want to really understand the thing you have to read the manual or something like the PeachPit publications on Logic/Logic Express.
    Sad but true.

The mac has no native way to read .wma files (these are Windows Media Audio files).  Do a search on the internet for playing wma files on a mac.  You will find several links to solution (one is to use flip4mac).

  • What is the easiest way to get the data from the mailmerge to form Pages files that can be saved separately?

Using Iwork 09 I have spent several hours setting up a mail merge from a spread sheet in Numbers to create receipts for my customers from a Pages template.

    Mr. Clark,
You will probably be more pleased with the iWork apps when you begin to learn your way around. Until you learn such basic things as how to print only one page of a document, you will probably continue to be disappointed.
Does your Print dialog look like this:
    Or like this:
If it looks like the first one, then you will want to click this expander control:

How do I extract an audio file from a PDF in Pro? (Mac) . Properties say it's a .m4a file.
    Thanks

    Hi Tim,
That isn't a supported feature. If the PDF is unsecured and you have the legal rights to extract the audio, it would be possible to locate and decompress the raw file data from the PDF file using third-party tools to read the low-level file structure (a hex editor or Cos editor) - but Acrobat can't help you.

  • Pro Tools Missing  audio file message syndrom exists on Logic

I come from Pro tools and i am a bit traumatised by this fkn Pro Tools missing audio file message for those who know what i mean..
Is it something possible and frequent in logic when we work on a daily basis ?

No, you simply copy the entire project folder to a flash drive and bring it home. If you have included the audio files in the project folder, which logic does by default, logic will find them just fine at home. If it asks where they are, you just hit "search" and if they're there, If you've copied the song file to your drive without including the audio files ("pilot error") then  the program can't find them. Often, I get protools sessions from clients with missing files. Sometimes the entire audio files folder is missing, but more often the missing files are out-takes that are no longer part of the arrangement, and were still in the audio file list of the song, but were not included in the folder when the project was copied and brought to me. How or why, I cannot tell you.
