  • What is the easiest way to burn data from a ext HD to an ext DVD drive?

I have a Maxtor Touch III with 2 partitions on it. I want to wipe the 2nd partition clean but it has data on it. I just bought a Plextor External DVD-DL drive. So what would be the easiest way to burn the discs? There is about 40Gb worth of data to burn and I have all kinds of backup utilities, (Retrospect Express, Intego's backup, etc....I will admit I am not well versed at using Retrospect, in fact the only way I know how to backup is by doing a Duplicate Backup. So what do you think?

I personally use Roxio's Toast 7 for all my burning needs, and it's the finest so far (also used DiscBlaze in the past). Click the "DATA" tab, and add whatever files you want to burn, that's it.
You mentioned you just bought a Plextor external DVD drive, is it the Plextor 716UF (USB/Firewire)? That's the same one i have and it's fantastic.

  • Easiest way to burn files to USB Superdrive

My FIL back in the Uk has a new iMac and a USB Superdrive. He wants to know the easiest way of burning photos to a disc. I don't have one so this is why I am asking.
Is it easiest to open Finder, insert a disc then select what he wants to burn and drag them to a disc icon? drive ? and then he selects a burn icon or menu item to burn to disc ?
He is in his late 70's so needs a step by step instruction list.
    Many thanks.

I meant exactly what I said.
When you drag an unburned CD to the Trash, you will see that the Trash icon changes to the Burn icon and it will burn the CD.  After burning, the finished CD will still be on your desktop.  You can then eject the CD.
So, the step by step is:
    Insert a blank CD
A window will open, asking you if you want to open the CD with the Finder
    Click OK
At this point there will be an "Untitled" CD on your desktop.  (Depending on the version of OS X you are running this will be either a CD icon or a blue Folder icon with the burn image on the cover of the folder.)
Drag the photos to the blank CD (Folder).  Alternatively you can open a Finder window and drag the photos to the "CD drive"
When you are ready to burn, drag the CD icon (Folder) that's on your Desktop to the Trash.  As soon as you start to drag the CD icon (Folder), you will see that the Trash icon will change to the yellow-and-black burn icon.  Drag it to the Trash.
The CD will now get burned

  • Satellite C655 - Easiest way to burn a DVD

    Hi
I have never had a laptop before. Also new to windows 7. Trying to find the simplest way to burn a DVD from another DVD on this new laptop. I know I have to put the info from the DVD on to the laptop. And then burn it on to a blank DVD. I can put the DVD in to the drive. Thats a great start !!! I am looking for the simplest way to "rip" and burn. Even if it means downloading (hopefully free) burning software.
On my desktop CD burner it was pretty easy to burn from a CD to another CD. 2 trays and software to burn. I know this is more complex. I am somewhat computer challenged, btw. Thanks :)

    Hi lili60,
The most DVDs and CDs that you can buy are copy protected so I doubt you will be able to copy them. Usually you can only copy disks from friends with private pictures, music, etc. but common disks are copy protected.
For burning disks you can use the freeware tool CD Burner XP. Thats really nice tool that provide all necessary functions for burning disks. You can download the tool here:
    http://cdburnerxp.se/
On the same page you can also find an online help how the program works.
If you have more questions, please let us know! :)

  • What's the fastest easiest way to burn an iMovie into an iDVD

I created an iMovie for my cousin who is going on college interviews tomorrow. I did not realize that in order to burn a DVD, I would have to create a whole new project in iDVD with stills, videos, music etc...
I need to burn the movie quickly. Any suggestions on a simple way to burn a movie onto a DVD would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!
    Tracy

    Hi
    a. Use iMovie HD 6
    b. Close iMovie and locate the movie project icon
    c. Open iDVD and select an as simple menu possibly eg Brushed Metal (old themes)
    d. Import movie or just drop it into iDVD window - but not into a button zone. (Import is easiest)
    e. I choose
    • Pro-Quality encoding (handles up to 120 minutes incl menu)
    • DVD-R disks
    • Verbatim
    • x1 burnspeed (can be set in iDVD pref/Advance)
    • minimum of 25Gb free space on internal boot hard disk
    Limitations
    • iDVD only cares about duration of movie (NOT GBs at all)
    • SlideShows limited to 99 photos each (or do iit in iMovie)
    • iMovie'08 and 09 not tools if High Quality is of need from miniDV material

  • Fastest/simple way to burn DVD- no menu?

To burn DVD's at work - I normally use an external DVD recorder at work- Play down clip, hit record, done.
At home I only have the Quad and FCP studio.
I have a simple 3 minute clip in FCP.
I exported a QT to the desktop.
I want to burn a DVD. No menus. Nothing.
I have never used idvd or dvd studio.
Is there a way to perform a simple drag/drop and burn?
    Thanks

Open DVD SP - drag the QT onto the Menu which is 'First Play'
Hit the yellow and black icon at the top to burn.

  • Is there a way to burn DVDs at speeds lower than 4x?

Hi to everybody. I need to burn DVDs at speeds lower than 4x (preferably 1x) but both Burn and LiquidCD (together with Disk Utility) are unable to. I believe that this depends on the fact that alle these utilities rely on Apple's optical Burning Framework. Is there a way to get rid of this problem without needing to buy Toast or Disco (I very rarely burn CDs and an expense in this direction wouldn't be justifeied).
    TIA.

Insert a blank disc (it's not going to write, so the disc won't be wasted) then look in the "Disc Burning" section of System Profiler (Utilities folder). It will show the supported burning speeds for that disc in that drive. With my Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-115D and a Verbatim DVD-R 16X disc, it shows:
    Write Speeds: 4x, 6x, 8x, 12x, 16x, 20x
These speeds are determined by the drive and brand of disc, and cannot be changed by software. If you tried to run a drive at a slower speed, the drive's servo might not be able to keep the rotation smooth enough (so the dots are burned evenly spaced) without adding a heavy flywheel, and the laser would need to produce longer pulses at lower intensity. Laser diodes may quit when the power is reduced too much. For this drive, it must be the minimum power that laser will operate at, since the drive will burn DVD-RW discs at 1x or 2x. The RW must need more energy to burn each dot, so the laser power does not have to be reduced too much.
Why do you need to burn at slower speeds?
If you don't want to use DVD-RW, you may be able to find some older, lower speed DVD-Rs

You would have try one to see if they are compatible with modern burners.

  • Easiest way to burn out a DVD ?

    Hello,
I want to try about 10 mins of some footage on a DVD-R or DVD+R disc.
Is this possible to do from Premiere ? or must I shoot it through Encore ? ( even if all I want is a simple movie on disc, without any menus or anything else )
    Thanks,
    Dave.

David, that's a good tip similar to
this in the Premiere Pro wiki as a work-around for Premiere Pro 1.0 to create a DVD folder.

  • A COACH NEEDS HELP - Quickest way to burn DVD from SD card (iFrame format)

Just purchased new SANYO FH1A video recorder to film our basketball team's games. It records on a SD Card in iFrame format (designed for Apple). I want to quickly burn a DVD direct from the SD Card after games. I tried the "ONE STEP FROM MOVIE" but all I can do is one clip at a time. There are separate clips due to pausing the video during timeouts of basketball games. How do I select all the clips to burn a DVD for the entire game with ONE STEP FROM MOVIE. I tried holding down shift, control, option, and command each separate and that did not work. Any ideas or suggestions? Maybe there is an easier way than the "One step from movie". Thanks in advance - the season is just starting

Maybe there is an easier way than the "One step from movie". Thanks in advance - the season is just starting
There is an easier and faster way and I'll elaborate at the end of this post / reply. Just so you are aware; a One Step Dvd isn't any faster than editing your iMovie and then over to iDvd. In some situations, it can actually take longer.
If it's speed and simplicity you're after without the need for intensive editing nor fancy menus and the like, then the fastest way I'm aware to go from your camcorder's SD card directly to Dvd-R is with Sony's DvDirect. It has an added advantage over iDvd in that it's essentially a one touch process, portable, (no pc required) and it burns high def as well as SD complete with menus and chapters. iDvd burns standard definition Dvd's only. iDvd is very easy to use however it is not a one touch approach if you plan to add menus and chapters.

  • Correct way to burn DVD-R Dual Layer? Power Mac G5 or MBP Early 2008?

I have several software titles I have purchased and they are on dual layer dvd, I am using Philips DVD-R dual layer, I have a Power Mac G5 and an early 2008 Mac Book Pro, I have been unable to successfully burn a back-up on either drive. I am noticing dual layer seem to be an major problem across the board, but in the past this has been the place I come to get my answers.
    Thank You in advance,

  • What is the easiest way to burn a music cd?

I've been having trouble burning cds on my mac air (10.7.3) with the latest version of iTunes. After I import the cd from the superdrive and insert a blank cd, iTunes closes and I'm taken to the desktop which has the "untitled disc" on it. I have no idea what to do at this point. One tutorial says to select "burn disc" but then I end up with an empty disc. I don't know what to try next. I have burned cds in the past and it made sense. Something has changed. I'm lost. I would appreciate any suggestions which might simplify this process.   Thanks  Bill

Create a playlist, add songs, select it then iTunes menu File > Burn.

  • Burning DVD's on Leopard

    The Panther, by Ogden Nash
The panther is like a leopard,
    Except it hasn't been peppered.
Should you behold a panther crouch,
    Prepare to say Ouch.
Better yet, if called by a panther,
    Don't anther.
    My question:
What is the best way to burn DVD's on Leopard?
I have been using Toast 7.1.3 on Tiger.
I am trading my Tiger for my wife's new Leopard Intel Macbook so I can use new XCode 3 which requires Leopard.

You can use iDVD for movies to DVD:
Open iDVD>new project>click on the button with the little flowchart on the bottom of the screen>drag your movie to the drop box on top>go to Archive>select burn DVD.

  • Want to record edit and burn dvds of videos from canon camcorder what is the best way

what is the easiest way to transfer recordings from my canon camcorder hd to dvds after editing. The new imovie does not have idvd on it to burn dvds.

I'm assuming you're editing in iMovie? If you still have an older retail version of iLife, you can use that to install iDVD - I am using it with mavericks. Or, the retail 09 and 11 iLife disks are still available at some online resellers. The best thing out there still is iDVD with its customizable menus, themes, etc. However, there are other options for just burning: one good ons is Roxio Toast; then there is the free app Burn (basic I'm told, but works). Or google for others. Personally, I'd get iDVD.
The new iMovie (or the older versions) did not have iDVD built in - it's just a link to the iDVD application. FWIW, I prefer to use the older iMovie versions because they have more quality options to choose from when exporting. With the new iMovie, choose to export to file and choose your recording size and then you can drag that file into a burning app (or iDVD if you get it).

  • I repeatedly get "error during rendering/encoding of menus/slideshow" message.  This process is the same on my iMac, MacBook and another iMac.  I have been burning dvd's int he same way for the past 12 months using the exact same steps successfully.

I keep getting "error during rendering/encoding of menus/slideshows" message.  I have been burning DVD's in exactly the same way for the past 12 months and mostly on my MacBook which is 3 years old.  Obviously I'm using iDVD.  I purchased an iMac about a year ago and moved to use this for dvd burning without problem.  A few months ago (approximately) I started to experience problems with burning with the error message above.  I tried everything including starting the whole process from scratch right down to capturing the movie clips from my video recorder into iMovie, then using them in iDVD.  Still the same message came up.  I lost count of how many times I repeated the process with different clips and variations and the same thing happened.  This was also the case with my MacBook and my husband's iMac.
After taking both of mymac's tothe service centre, having new optical thingys put it and even a new hard drive on my iMac along with a new DVD burner the same thing happened.  They told me it must be the process that I am using that is incorrect!
I took my 27" iMac to an apple shop and asked them to assist me while I use the same technique as I always had.  The same message came up so they tried using my clips in one of their mac's.  The same message. They tried it with different clips and the same message.  The only way we could get theirs to work was with a magic DVD which did not produce what I needed and was limited with only one page.
I now cannot use any of my Mac's for the intended purpose that I bought them for - to produce good media for my work!  It was suggested that I purchase some non Mac software to burn DVDs which defeats the object of having a mac with iDVD in my opinion.  I have a book on iDVD which is very informative and have followed the process to the letter and checked all the trouble shooting and still no remedy.  It was mentioned that an up-date may have caused the problem on all my macs.
I feel that this issue should be addressed by Apple as a matter of correctness.
I now find that on the net there are many posts in forums and such like with exactly the same (almost word for word) problems.  Please Apple, keep/regain your good name and sort this out.
    Jayne Connelly

Thanks Bengt W for your attention to this matter.  So much appreciated.  And thanks for putting me right on the aim of forums (new to this).  Although, you may regret asking for more information.  I've added everything I can below.
The process I used is as follows:
Import recorded clips of between 5 and 15minutes each from my video recorder into i
Edit the clips (remove unwanted start and endng)
Add title to front of clips
‘Share’ them to ‘movie’ (export using QuickTime)folder in .mov format individually
Open iDVD and ‘create new project’
Select ‘favourite’ theme that I have set up forall my work dvd’s (this has been used successfully many times and I’ve triedwithout using the favourite them).
Add 2 submenus for each group of clips
Select submenu  - drag and drop between 3 – 6 clips in each of the twosubmenus
    Change title colours on clips
Dragand drop image into drop zones where required
In‘map’ view I check for any yellow warnings before burning to disc
In an attempt to remedy the problems I’ve tried the following:
    Try new DVD discs
Try different themes (favourites and standardones)
    Change images in drop zones
Start whole process again even from importingfrom camera again
Two other completely different computers (iMacand MacBook) with iDVD
Go to apple shop and use their computers to doin iDVD
Try with one clip and no menu pages added
Use a clip that I already have that did notoriginate from my camera
    Turn computer off and restart
    New hard drive
    New optical lense (thing)
    New DVD burner
Saving to disc image rather than dvd disc
    Other points:
I also have a ‘flip’ and ‘iPhone’ whereI’ve imported footage camera which, although limited, records and makes videoclips and burns them to DVD through iDVD without problem.
For example, I have just gone through steps 5 - 11 using some clips that were already imported from my iphone to iPhoto and dragged across.  I used a theme that I've used before which has failed and added one sub menu page where the clip went.  It burned to disc image successfully.
The startup disc, I believe will have no space issues asit’s a new hard drive with no use apart from this.  That could have been an issue before (I didn’t check it) butnot now.
Other technical stuff that I don't understand but you may:
    I have…… Mac OS X Version 10.6.7 with all updates onit.  Processor 2.8 GHz Intel Corei7.  Memory 4GB 1067 MHz DDR3.

If you can solve this you are better than the 'apple geeks' in the shop and the service technicians in the service centre (and of course me but that's no achievement).
