Easiest way to chop audio files by beat

So, I'm trying to take a section of audio within Logic and chop it into parts. For simplicities sake, we'll say 16 parts, what would be the easiest way to do this?
I've tried doing a "cut by playhead" but I also am not sure of how to change my grid to align with 16th notes....
There's got to be an easier way.
My end hope is to import the sections into the EXS24, do you think I'd be better off using Audacity or ReCycle to do this?

You can use the strip silence function from the Audio menue which will slice your Audio file into segments following the transients - adjust the settings to your needs and go ahead. Your original Audio file will be sliced into seperate regions - if you convert those regions to new audio files (select all slices->control+f->save as new audio files) you can import the new files directly into EXS by dragging and dropping them.

  • Easiest way of bringing audio files from pro tools to logic w/o using omf

I have a session recorded in pro tools that I am trying to get in logic so I can mix, since logic has way more plug-ins than pro tools but when I import the audio files they all start at 1. I need the files to show up where they were recorded at in pro tools. I tried putting these files in the audio bin first and bringing to the arraange but they still started at 1. Can I get logic to this? if not does anyone know a work around?

You need to consolidate the files in Pro Tools first, so they are all starting from the same point.
From within Pro Tools... select al the regions in Pro Tools, (make sure all tracks are selected) ,place the curser at the end of the song, hold down the shift key, and hit return. This will select the whole session, form bar 1, beat 1.
At this point, if there are tracks with many edits, I will first duplicate them (option/shift/3). These duplicated tracks are then pre-selected for you, and you can go ahead and consolidate them to a folder of your choosing by hitting command/shift/K.
Then open a new Logic song, and add these files to the audio bin. Place them on the arrange page, all starting from bar 1, beat 1, and they'll all play in perfect sync.
I do this frequently, btw, and it works 100% of the time, with absolutely no problems.

  • Easy way to trim audio files?

I am trying to create a movie with reeldirector, and I would like to use segments of 3 different songs, but I cannot trim the audio to the proper length. Anyone know an easy way to either a)edit the audio with reeldirector, or b)create a new song file that is a trimmed version of the original. I would like to do this on my iPhone 4 and not deal with iTunes.

There is currently no way to trim audio files with reeldirector, but I found a workaround. I had to cut each audio file to length using the free program Audacity (I use a PC). The shortened songs could then be inserted into reeldirector at the appropriate times. iTunes could cut the song to length, but it does not change the time stamp of the song. This caused problems when I imported into reeldirector. It was much easier to cut the song in Audacity, and then import to iTunes, and then to my iPhone. It was the long way around, but the final result is very nice.

  • [Iphone] Easiest way to loop audio from file

I've tried reading tutorials online and from Apple, but they are very confusing. Basically, I have a long audio file (over a minute) that I want to loop. How do I do this?

Playing audio is somewhat a pain. I used and changed a bit the example of the crash landing app.
See this thread (and download the code) [http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=7761384#7761384]
Then load the file and play it (e.g. MP3). It will loop it.
    SoundEngine_LoadBackgroundMusicTrack(@"file", TRUE, TRUE);
    SoundEngine_StartBackgroundMusic();
    To stop playing
    SoundEngine_StopBackgroundMusic(FALSE);
    //and unload
    SoundEngine_UnloadBackgroundMusicTrack();

  • Easiest Way to Copy many Files, Songs, Photos, ... From One Mac to Another?

My daughter is about to buy a MacBook for school.
What is the easiest way to copy files from my computer to her new one (while leaving originals in place)?
There are three kinds of files -- documents, photos and music.
I have a pile of cables -- USB, Firewire, Ethernet, ... -- and an external hard drive with copies of everything on my internal HD.
    Any advice?
    Thanks

Two methods for the same result.
    Your way:
Using the external the OP would need to connect it to the computer with all the files, then copy the files onto the external. Once the copy was finished the OP would then need to connect the external to the other computer and copy the files off.
If the OP already has a complete back up of the original computer than the files just need to be copied off the external, so your way would be easier. But I find that I usually don't have a completely up to date backup so I assume at least a few files would need to be copied off the original computer first, anyway.
    My way:
Connect the computers with a firewire cable. Start one in Target Disk Mode. Copy the files across. When the copy is done, restart the TDM computer. No worries about missing any files that may not be on the external backup yet.
Which is better is simply a matter of preference and perception.

  • Best way to update audio files in library

I have quite a few audio files in the library for a Captivate project.  I just modifed a bunch of them, and I am wondering the best way to update the library.
If I delete the files in the library, I lose all the links to which audio went with which slide.
If I go into each slide and replace the audio, that is more time consuming, and still a problem when the old audio file is still in the library
I don't see an option for directly replacing the audio in the library; if I put the new version (same name) it just adds it with a (2), i.e. audioclip and audioclip(2)
The update option does not give me what I need, unless I am missing something.  First of all, I am using both a Windows computer at the client site, and my own Mac, so the paths are different.  To use the update I would have to update the path for each audio file, which is more trouble that updating every file manually.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.

    Hi there,
The recommended way is to go to that slide and import the slide audio again, new audio will replcae the old.
Once you have replaced all the audios, the audio files that are not in use in the project will still show up in Library.
You can get rid of all unused items from the library, by clicking on the icon for unused icon and then delete icon:
    Thanks.

  • What is the easiest way to convert .MTS files for use in Final Cut Express

I initially downloaded my Sony Alpha7 files into iMovie. As the production requires a little more professional software I then tried to import files into Final Cut Express. As these are now .MTS files what is the easiest way of converting them?

    Hey Martin et al,
    Related question...
After you convert files from M2TS or MP4 into something usable in FCE can you trash the original M2ts/mp4 files ?
I recently used Mpeg Streamclip to convert Mp4 into AIC for FCE for example..
Is there a general rule of when you have to save original files so everything works in FCE?
I'm running out of HD space.
    Thanks a lot,

  • Fastest and easiest way to transfer system & files G3 to G5

I have a G3 b&W with a 400 firewire card in it, and two basic ATA hard drives. Which would be easiest way to transfer 10.3.9 system (with classic) by means of Carbon Copy Cloner, and all files to a partition on the G5 Mac.
Since the G5 has 400 & 800 firewire, or ethernet transfer.
I think Migration Assistant will help with the transfer, but not sure wich way to go about this.
    Berry

Hi Berry, to use CCC you need an older version for 10.3, version 2.3, because the B&W doesn't support FWTDM.
Put the G5 in FW Target Mode…
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58583
Wait for the G5's HD to show up on B&W.
But, if perchance it's just Classic you need, you can Simply copy OS9's "System Folder" & "Applications OS9" over.

  • Keynote is an amazing tool for preparing presentations. However, keynote for iOS devices(e.g. iPad) doesnot have the simple way to add audio files in to the files. When we will have the update to add music files right into the keynote slide?

I have been using Keynote for presentation slides to be used in conducting training sessions. Though, Keynote has beautiful interface with elegant transitions to animate, it doesnot provide any way to add audio or music files into the slides in iOS devices alone. I have been waiting for the update to add this very feature, but cannot find it yet. When could we have this upate?

Send Apple feedback and tell them what you want. However, many app versions of programs are skinnied down, and that functionality may not be workable in the App version. Can't know until you suggest it to them however.

  • Easiest way to access remote files on Macs?

    Hi.
I was just wondering if there was a way that I can access files on my remote mac?  It is setup as a file server and has a share point created which is fine on the loca network, but say I am working away and want to access the files. What is the easiest way to do this please?  I was thinking syncing with Dropbox or the like but I was wondering whether there are any inbuilt ways in OSX. I am sure there are I just don't know about them lol.  Thanks for any advice in advance.

  • Is there a way to convert audio files with the new PlayForSure software sui

When I use the old Media Source Audio Converter and transfer the wma file to my Zen I get a message that the audio codec is not supported. I don't think my Media Source plug ins for PlayForSure devices are working or something.

The exact error message is: "The audio file format is not supported or exceeds the playback capability of this device." Then when you click on "More Information" it says: Codec 0X62 is not supported.
This is retarded man, maybe if Creative would release software THAT ACTUALLY WORKED with their frigging devices they would sell more MP3 players.

  • What is the best way to download audio files?

I am building a website for a church.  How do I put the weekly audio sermons on the site, so that the files don't take forever to download?
I had a link with quicktime, but someone said they didn't have that plug-in, so I have embedded the files.
...what is the most popular and fast way for people to hear the sermons?
I have split up the pages.
I was hoping for one like, https://crosspointelpaso.ctsmemberconnect.net/sermon-ctrl.do?view=0&grpId=26073
This is where I am now...http://www.estevanfaithlutheran.com/listentosermonsonline.html
    Thank you.
    Em

The site that you referenced is using mp3 for the sermon audios...  if you look at the code for one of the links it is this:
    <a href="https://f1.ctsmemberconnect.net/garoupdb/O-0000000937/G-0000026073/audio/Sep 21 2008.mp3" title="" target="_blank">What Is God Looking At?</a>
It then depends on what the client machine uses to run mp3s as to how they open, automaticallly or the viewer is asked whether they want to open the file using their mp3 player.  Probably more widespread than using quicktime.

  • Easiest Way to Migrate Windows Files on Bootcamp Partition to Mac Partition On The Same Computer)

I have Windows 7 on a Bootcamp Partition on my MacBook Pro. I want to start using Mac OS Mountain Lion full time now and erase the Bootcamp Partition.
I was going to use the Migration Assistant to move my Windows files (such as bookmarks, email, my enormous iTunes Library etc) over to the Mac partition but the problem is that Migration Assistant must be running on the Windows partition at the same time. Difficult to do when they're both on the same hard drive/computer.
I know i could just copy all the files i need onto an external drive but I'm afraid i'll miss something. Plus its alot of work. I'm thinking there must be an easier, mostly pain free way of making the move to MacOS permanently. I can't think of what it would be though. Any suggestions?

Yes, you can simply install the existing drives in the new computer's drive bays. Order is not relevant.
I don't see any reason why Windows will not boot on the new computer from the existing drive. If Windows considers that the hardware has changed all that's required is re-activation. As far as hardware interfaces all you need do is to install the Windows drivers from the installation DVD that comes with the new computer.
Snow Leopard will have to be installed on your existing hard drive, and it must be either a later build or later version than what is shipped with the new computer. Otherwise you will have to reinstall Snow on your existing drive using the installer DVD that comes with the new computer. SL by default does an Archive and Install so your drive is not erased when you reinstall OS X.
If you actually have software that ties its registration to some unique hardware ID, then all you need do is re-enter the serial number. Apple's software does not usually connect the serial number to the hardware, so I doubt you will have any problem with it.
