Easiest way to delete Camera Roll photos which were imported by iPhoto through Photostream?

So I have a bunch of photos on my iOS device that were properly uploaded to my Photostream.  Then, iPhoto dutifully imported them on my MacBook Pro and place them in my iPhoto library.  So now I have a bunch of photos on my iOS device that iPhoto reads as "Already Imported".  If I try to import them, I get the usual warning about a Duplicate Photo.  I don't want to import duplicate photos and choosing not to import them leaves them on my iOS device.
So is there a more elegant way of getting them off my iOS device instead of manually deleting them?
This is an ok idea until I have over 100 photos and the deletion process becomes a tedious tapping afair.
Thanks!

If you have a current iCloud or iTunes backup you can restore to that.

  • Is there a way to retrieve camera roll photos after failed backup

I backed up my iphone 4 to itunes (not icloud) yesterday, and today i went to the apple store to see if they could fix a broken lock button. They issued me a new phone, and assured me that i woult be able to retrieve my camera roll photos after restoring my phone from backup. Everything restored to my phone EXCEPT the photos. Some of them are very important to me and i would like to know if there is a way to retreive all of the photos through my computer, phone or itunes. PLEASE help me.

The Camera Roll photos should have restored, as they are part of the backup, unless you had a corrupted backup. Connect the phone, right click on it in iTunes, and choose Restore from Backup. If you are given a choice of backups choose one from before you replaced the phone.
However, the Camera Roll is not intended as a permanent store for photos; they should be transferred to a photo app on your computer or Photo Stream frequently, to avoid the situation you are now facing.

  • Recover deleted Camera Roll photos?

I'm traveling on vacation, and during a sync, I inadvertently deleted about 20 photos. Of course they are photos I really want. I tried doing a restore from a backup, but that didn't work (I don't know if Camera Roll photos are even included in the backup/restore process for the iPhone). I've tried a couple of recovery programs - Klix and Stellar Phoenix Photo Recovery - for Mac, and for Windows running Parallels. In all cases, the programs don't even see the iPhone. Does anyone have any suggestions for how recovery may be possible? I know retrieval of deleted items on a computer is far from perfect, but I've used the iPhone very little since I screwed up, and there is 17 GB available memory on my 32 GB phone, so I'm hopeful.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Only one normal iPhone backup is kept by iTunes. It's actually an incremental backup in that only data that has changed is actually backed up. While camera roll photos are included in the iPhone backup, deleting such photos on your phone & then syncing effectively removes these photos from your iPhone backup. The first thing done when you sync is an iPhone backup. Photos in your iPhone camera roll should always be imported to your computer & never stored in your camera roll.

  • Where are camera roll photos once I import them?

In anticipation of getting my new iPhone, I imported all my camera roll photos onto my iMac and see they show up under Last Import.  However, I do not see them in Events.  Where will these photos be found once I import more photos?  I want to have them appear on the new iPhone.

    Tell Apple, not us.

I found it a great chance for a clean out, given that I always back my photos up to iPhoto and therefore my System and Data backup for protection. Then I went to most recent and marked those I wished to keep on my phone as 'Favorites' and now have a nice clean folder of Favorites, which I will add to from 'Recently Added' and delete all the c*ap. Now I have a nice tidy phone, but still have all photos backed up on Mac. I don't use Photostream, as I would rather trust my own physical backup method. A great chance for a clean out. Thanks Apple!

  • Syncing photo's from iphoto adds another 'photo library' without deleting 'camera roll' photo

    Hi there,
I found that I can add photo's (without deleting my existing camera roll) to my Iphone 4 from my girlfriends mac to my iphone by syncing from iphoto and selecting the photo events or folder I want. Then pressing 'apply' adds a new photo library to my phone with these selected pics in them. In this cercumstance I can only delete these photos using the same process by de-selecting them in 'sync from iphoto' and again pressing 'apply' There is no function / icon in my actual iphone to delete this library or even individual photo.
However when I try this exact same process on my girlfriends Iphone 4 (same model) the 'apply' function threatens to delete all photos from her phone, leaving her with ONLY the ones selected / checked.
Just in case it is part of explaining this I have tried this logged in on my account and hers but both have the same results in every combination. There appear to be two different set of rules going on here within I-tunes I would prefer to be able to add photo's without deleting existing ones but I would also like to be able to selectively delete these photo's once on my phone without going back to connect to tha mac.
Can anyone explain if this is possible or am I asking for 'my cake AND eat it' ?
Why are ther differences in our phones governing rules in Itunes?

Thanks Winston, you are correct "sync". In fact I found the answer in a slightly different way. There is a check-box in the photo's tab that provides for syncing photo's before any media. Therefore this will in fact create the necessary space on the ATV for the photo's by moving other media content from syncing to streaming.
Of course the alternative, as you point out is to limit what actually gets synced in custom sync.
Thanks for taking the time to respond.
    Regards

  • What is the easiest way to delete duplicates of photos

I have ended up with many duplicates and  triplicates after uploading new photos trying to figure out the easiest way to manage these and delete the extras I have over 20,000 pictures.

best way is to avoid them in the first place - have you by any chance imported an older iPhoto library into your current iPhoto library? Recently? Is the old library still available?
THe best way to remove dupicates is using th epaid version of iPhoto Library Manager or Duplicate annilator

  • Transferring deleted camera roll photos onto Macbook

My friend recently moved in and she wanted to recover some deleted photos from her camera roll on an iPhone 4. She doesn't have a computer here and recently switched to a different device. I also don't want to sync all of the photos from my Mac to her phone. Is there anything I can do?

    No.
They would have to be somewhere in order to recover them.
If she has not backed up to iCloud or a computer, and she has failed to import them to her computer as you should do regularly, then they are gone.
    Sorry

  • How do you mass delete camera roll photos?

I have an iPhone 4 and iPhoto '11.  iPhoto crashed and didn't delete all the photos after importing.  How do I delete them now??  Don't need them on my phone any more. And there are well over 100 to delete...
Yes, I know how to delete them individually....

I have 7.1 version.  I found out what to do.  Phone must be plugged into itunes.  Go into photo section.  Hit the SYNC BUTTON where it says sync photos.  A list of photo folders with dates will appear.  Put a check in the boxes of the photos you want deleted, THEN HIT THE SAME SYNC BUTTON and itunes will delete photos from phone.  THIS SOLVED MY ISSUES.  If anyone else has problems, leave a message and maybe I can explain it in more depth.  It sounds confusing, but it really isn't.  GOOD LUCK.

  • IPhone sometimes won't delete all the photos after I import into iPhoto

Every so often, my iPhone 3GS won't delete some photos after importing into iPhoto and choosing "delete originals." It deletes most of the originals but strangely keeps a certain number around. My basic routine is to "Import All" and then "Delete Originals." This works 98% of the time, but sometimes the iPhone just gets hung up and won't delete the originals until I manually do it from the iPhone itself.

I was looking further into this and I found out that on my Macbook Pro's System Preferences. In the iCloud settings, the "Photos" setting was checked and in the Options next to that, the "My Photo Stream" and "Photo Sharing" was also checked.
I think this was the main problem. After I used iTunes to sync with the photos maybe there was some cache settings or something residual left on the iPhone which let to it being continuously restoring.
This is the fix which I used. It is fine now.
Check in System Preferences for - iCloud >> Photos is unchecked.
Check in System Preferences for - iCloud >> Photos >> Options >> "My Photo Stream" and "Photo Sharing" is unchecked.
Temporarily delete account for iCloud settings on iOS device - Settings >> iCloud (This didn't affect my main iCloud account only deleted my information on the device)
    Re-sync iOS device with iTunes.
Set up your iCloud account on iOS device again.
Hope this helps for anyone having this problem.

  • Any way to open/retrieve encrypted Camera Roll photos

I had to restore my iphone 3GS.....is there a way to open/retrieve the Camera Roll photos that were on this phone? I regularly sync'd this phone, with "encrypted backup" enabled.
I have since purchased a new iPhone4 and want to restore the 3GS encrypted backup (camera roll) to the iPhone 4.

I'm sure it was the right backup since that was the only backup I ever did.
Perhaps the iPod Touch issue which I brought it in for the troubleshooting later that day.. also caused it to backup the camera roll pictures up to a point too (The month and a half where I'm missing the other photos)?
My device issue was that most notifications went missing and the inability for my iPod Touch to update any of my apps. It would show waiting/loading and then just return to a normal app icon like it had finished, but instead the update never occurred. The Apple specialist who helped me seemed puzzled and the final solution employed which worked was updating me to iOS 5.
I had tried restoring to factory settings and reinstalling previously to going to the Apple store for help. It only fixed my problems for a week, before they returned.
I do hope tho' I'm not SOL and the rest of the data is hidden in my backup..

  • I created a photo album on my iPhone 4s - edited photos etc. but I cannot figure out how to transfer it to my pc (using Windows 8).  The only folder in the iphone drive is the one which has the Camera roll photos :( Help please - I really need the photos!

The camera roll is not part of the sync process at all.
You should be importing these photos to your computer regularly as you would with any digital camera.  Youc an organize them on your computer and sync the to the iphone if you wish.
The photos sync from the computer to the iphone is one way.
The iphone mirrors the selected content of the computer to which it is synced.

  • Deleting the Camera roll photos

Have searched the forum, but can't find a solution.
Is there a way to delete all the photos in the camera roll on iPhone? I just got back from vacation and have about 70 photos that have been imported to iPhoto, but are still on the iPhone. I click delete photos on the iPhoto import screen, but they are still there. Do I have to delete them one by one? Doesn't seem efficient.
    Thanks....Nano

It's times like these that you hope (pray?) Apple is listening to their customers. Clearly this is a huge miss -syncing to delete photos is not practical, and furthermore having to use some round about way with Image Capture is even worse. Apple needs to either make a bulk delete method on the iPhone Camera Roll or in iPhoto. Who are you guys hiring for the "User Interface Evangelist" positions on the Jobs page? Not me .
