Easiest way to import 192 AVI's each into it's own event in iMovie '11?

Hi,
I want to start using our new iMac's iMovie '11 (language not English, hopefully all the terms are correct) as our video library and organizer. I have a bunch of edited and named AVI's (192 exactly), which I would like to *import into 192 separate events in iMovie '11*. I would like to have the AVI file names as event names and naturally keep the correct dates in the process.
Is there an easy way of doing this? The options when importing movies seem to be
"add to an existing event"
"create new event"
I think what I'm *looking for would be a third import option*:
*create separate event from every movie (or clip)*
I can't get this done by dragging from Finder either. I can't drag to the library itself and I have to drag the movies to an existing event. Is there a way around this by some sort of batch import or adjusting settings when I drag AVI's over from Finder? I think I could live with writing new event names, but bringing all the AVI's over one by one seems hard work...

You could either script this via shell script or atleast bulk most of the tedious manual create/move operations.
Since you don't have that many, easiest is just to dump the filenames to a textfile and start from that so you don't have to type any.
ls > clips.txt
Open the file in Excel or a text editor (such as a the free Textwrangler which lets you do stuff in column mode) and create terminal commands. These you can just copy (cmd+c) and then paste into a terminal window and then execute.
mkdir "clipname 1 minus extension"
mkdir "clipname 2 minus extension"
You can also add the move operation
mv "clipname 1" ./"clipname 1 minus extension"
mv "clipname 2" ./"clipname 2 minus extension"
This is done in just a few minutes

Won't work shooting in 60P format. But will work fine in the others. I use the built in card reader in my Mac and it shows up fine in iMovie.

  • Is there an easy way to import those misfortunate photos back into iphoto

I moved my iphoto library to my external drive so that both my laptop and imac can use the synced photo library.
... but now my imac iphoto says I can not open my iphoto library, because is from a newer version of iphoto. And the application then closes.
I figured out my newer laptop has a newer version of iphoto on it.
    Imac iphoto version is 6.0.6
    Laptop iphoto version s 7.1.5
I Downloaded iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This created a new library but says a lot of my pictures are lost. I can search and find them on my external drive and reimport, but there are a lot of them! Any suggestions?
I'd rather use the 6.0.6 on my imac than pay for an upgrade.
    I just won't use my laptop's iphoto.
BUT, how can I get my 6.0.6 working again with all of my pictures in tact? Or is there an easy way to import those misfortunate photos back into iphoto painlessly?
    Any other solutions??
Will Snow Leopard have the newest iPhoto included?
    Thank you!

If you want to revert to iPhoto 6 then you have two choices:
    1. Restore from your back up
    or
    2. Create a new v6 Library and start over.
To create and populate a new *iPhoto 6* library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Rolls and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'.
Go into the Old iPhoto Library (Right Click on the Library Icon and choose ‘Show Package Contents) and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Roll Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the old iPhoto Library.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.
“Snow Leopard” is an OS Upgrade. While we have no idea what will be included with it, on past experience, no, it will not include a new version of iPhoto.

  • What is the easiest way to import my DVD collection in to iTunes 12?

    Hi all,
I'd be grateful for advice on the best way to import my DVD collection - all legitimately purchased - in to my iTunes collection. I'm currently running iTunes 12 via a 2013 iMac running OS 10.9.4, on a home network including an Apple TV unit. There seems to be a lot of third party software options available, but I'm not sure which offer the best solution or, indeed, if Apple offers the ability to do this via iTunes itself.
    Thanks for your help.

    Hi
Thanks for that. But do I have to us the external disc, moving it from PC to Mac or is there a better way?. Can you directly connect the systems. I assume wifi is too slow as the size is about 10G

  • Easiest way to import from old computer

i have about 500 songs in itunes on my old laptop that i want to put on my new laptop to use with my ipod. i cant get the ipod to sync on the old computer bc the itunes doesnt see the ipod. whas the easiest way to transfer the songs to my new laptop so i can put them onto my ipod. thanks

    See this article...
How to use your iPod to move your music to a new computer
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300173
Perhaps even if your iTunes on the old machine doesn't see the iPod, if you can get the computer to see the iPod as a drive you can use the article's method.
Otherwise you might consider a USB thumb drive to move the files.

  • Any way to import multi-layered Illustator file into Motion?

I have an Illustrator map of Europe and i would like to bring it into Motion.
I know that Motion can import Illustrator files as pdf but is there any way to import a multi-layered illustrator file into Motion. I just saw this web site regarding a Motion plug-in that claims to do just this:
    http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/16298/layerlink

Without a dedicated plug or FxPlug, Motion has no inherent ability to parse Illustrator layers.
We just bust the layers out and save them as individual files. Or, of course, we use After Effects.

  • Is there a way to import ebooks from other sellers into iBooks?

I bought a printed book from Writer's Digest and it came with a free ebook copy. Is there a way to import it into iBooks?

If the book is in .epub or .pdf format and does not have any DRM, you should be able to add it to iBooks by just dragging the file into the app or using a menu item (Add Books or something similar).

  • What is the best way to import pictures from Lightroom 5 into FCP X

What is the  best way to transfer pictures from Lightroom 5 into Final Cut Pro X?

There is no one best way.  If, for instance, you want to be able to zoom into the picture with a Ken Burns effect then you may want to save out a very high res version that will be larger than your video resolution. Just use Lightroom to export a jpg file wherever you want it. You could export it into the Events folder and then choose not to copy it when you import it within FCPx. You could import the picture into iPhoto and then access it directly from within FCPx. Those are two simple, "regular" ways to get it into FCPx but if you are not going to Ken Burns the image by zooming into it and such you will want to crop it in Lightroom to the same size you will be using ie if you are making 720HD video then crop the image to that size and proportion before you export it from Lightroom.

  • Anyone know of a way to import .mov file extension files into imovie '09?

    Great forum. Thanks.
I can't seem to import a movie file with a ".mov" suffixe.
Most of the older finished work i have is in that format. I have since begun exporting files with the ".m4v" file extension and they are able to be imported.
Anyone know of any program available which will convert these ".mov" files to something that is more compatible with importing into imovie '09, or perhaps I am completely so asleep at the wheel I missing something staring me in the face?
Any help either way would be appreciated.

How about any free conversion programs that would allow me to convert files from .mov to a format that is more compatible with importing into imovie? If not I guess QTP will be the way to go.
No, the clips were shot using a SONY HD Handycam. The compression occured during the exporting of the finished clip. Instead of using "export movie" under Share in imovie, I used the "Export using Quicktime" option in order to keep the file size down. It did not give me any indication that choosing that option would prevent me from re-importing the finished piece back into imovie for an edit. It seems odd to offer an export option that is not compatible with importing into the the very program being used to export the file.
I simply want to be able to either re-import these ".mov" files back into imovie '09, or convert them to a file format that will allow me to at least open them in imovie '09. Any help to that end is greatly apprecited.
    Thanks

  • FireWire is the only way to import Canon HV20 Camcorder videos into iMovie?

As a followup to my last post a moment ago tonight 1/30/08:
Is it true that I need a FireWire cable to import Canon HV20 Camcorder videos into iMovie?
If so, the Apple salesperson is wrong.
He told me last Monday that purchasing the new iLife 2008 (that contains iMovie 2008) would allow me to use my current USB cable.
Given I see NO FireWire port on my new MacBook Pro (bought in 8/2006), I don't see a solution.
Note the camera, an HD camcorder (the Canon HV20) did NOT come with a FireWire cable; it only came with a USB male plug on one side of the cable and the other is a small square-like male plug that connects to a female port on the Canon HV20.
    Solution?
    Thanks for any suggestions, Daniel

The USB cable is for importing still photographs. Not video.
The firewire 400 cable you need is one that goes from the 6 pin full size male connector to the small 4 pin form used for DV.
The cable plugs into the camera in a socket behind a plastic flap near the eyepiece. Its marked HDV/DV. The other end plugs into the MBP on the right-hand side. 4th from the back.

  • Easiest way to get my .avi file to a dvd!!!

I have a .avi file i need to put on DVD> I have imovie, idvd, a superdrive, etc.
what is the simplest way to do this? I don't need any menus or titles or anything, just want to pop the dvd in and have the file start playing.
    thanks in advance!
btw, i have quicktime pro, so if I need to convert the file to another format first, I can do it through there.

Use "OneStep DVD from Movie" from iDVD's "File" menu.

  • Easiest way to import files from Sony HXR-MC50u

The pro-"sumer" Sony HXR-MC50u camera doesn't seem to to be supported for iMovie 11 or Final Cut Pro.     Should I merely record on SD cards or memory stick and use a reader to import.  It might be slow... but what other options should I consider.

Your experience with unlisted cameras is not typical.
There are literally hundreds, if not thousands of camcorders or cameras shooting video and new ones are constantly proliferating.
There is no way Apple (or any other company) can test every camera so those on the lists represent a tiny percentage of what are available.
So long as the camera shoots an internationally approved format (DV, HDV, AVCHD etc.) it will almost certainly be compatible.
In short the lists are therefore virtually useless unless you are buying one of the limited number of cameras that have been tested.
Unfortunately a few camera companies insist on developing their own non-standardised formats.

  • Easiest way to import MPG to iMovie 08?

I need a quick and easy suggestion if possible... I do not have a ton of knowledge in this area but was put in charge of creating a movie using my own files as well as files sent to me... and I told them to send me DV, MPEG-2 or MPEG-4 based on what I read in the iMovie guide. Well, none of the files being sent to me are working. I need to figure this out as quickly as possible and I can't spend a ton of money. I tried the MPEG Streamclip with no luck. I will buy the quicktime plug-in for $20 if it will work but don't want to waste any more time/money on another dead end. Anyone have any guaranteed suggestions? Thanks so much in advance!!

You have to install the $20 plug in. After that, you don't have to interact with the plug in. MPEG Streamclip and Quicktime use it behind the scenes.
You can drag the .mpg into streamclip and export it in a variety of formats, including DV.

  • I find no way to import my my.yahoo data into Thunderbird, the import does not show a source.

I downloaded and installed Thunderbird then used the import command to import my contact list. It did not import anything. I tried to import everything, again it imported nothing. I uninstalled TB and re-installed it. This time I tried to import everything first, and again it imported nothing. I have tried exporting the contact list from Yahoo email in both .csv and .ldif, but find no way to input or import them into TB. What can I do to import the address or contact file into TB. I have changed computers, but I am still using Windows 7 pro, and TB didn't have any trouble when I put it into the previous computer, which used Yahoo, last time. I'm at a loss as to how to do this other than manually typing in the listing, and I don't intend to do this even though I like TB much better than Yahoo for email.
Also, when TB copied my email from Yahoo, it failed to transfer most of my archived email, although it did get some of them. How can I move the rest of my archives, (3 email addresses) into TB? None of the canned messages address my problems.

    '''re: Address book:'''
Export the contact list from Yahoo as a comma separated .csv and save this on your desktop.
    In thunderbird.
    * open 'Address Book'
    * Tools > Import
    * select 'Address books'
    * click on Next
    * select 'Text file (ldif, .tab,.csv,.txt)
    * click on Next
    * locate the.csv file on desktop and click on Open
    * map fields to match Thunderbird fields
    '''re: Mail'''
Do you have a Pop mail account?
If yes, then all pop mail accounts (no matter what the email client) can only see the server Inbox and download any previously not downloaded email.
To get other emails in other server folders onto Thunderbird, you need to:
    * logon to webmail account using a browser
    * move emails into inbox.
    In Thunderbird
    * click on GetMail to download those emails.
    * Move emails into suitable folders.
    * repeat as necessary to download emails.
Three email addresses - this would require a mail account for each email address.
