Easiest way to remove live sound

When I edit projects I rarely use the "live" sound recorded by the camcorder.  In Premiere Elements I could just select a clip in the timeline and delete the audio via right mouse click and select.  In CS5 I seem to have to unlink the clip from its audio, then select the audio portion only and delete that.
Is there some quick way to drop a clip into the timeline without it's audio track, or is there a quicker way of deleting the audio for a clip other than unlink and clear?
-Roger Uzun

Craig's suggestions are probably all the best for accomplishing what you want, but I'll offer one more suggestion for the fun of it...
Personally, I like to add both the video and audio portions of a clip into a sequence, because even though I may be pretty sure that I won't use the audio, I like having the option. Instead of fussing with turning off tracks and so on, I simply hold down the Alt key and select just the audio portion of a sequence clip (or just video, if you want the audio) and right-click and toggle the Enable option. This leaves that portion of the clip in the timeline, linked to the other portion, but effectively "mutes" it. This way, if I decide I want the audio (or video) later, I just have to reverse the process, and I don't have to turn off everything in a track by muting it, so I can be selective of the clips that pass through to output.
Again, this is a more specialized function, but might be helpful at times.

What is the easiest way to remove duplicate contacts on my Iphone and avoid them in the future?

There are apps that will locate and remove duplicate contacts, such as My Contacts Backup Pro.  As for preventing them in the future, if you are syncing contacts both with iTunes and iCloud this will create duplicates.  If you are, pick one and disable the other.

  • Easiest way to remove digital debris?

Over the past 4 or 5 years, I've been upgrading and upgrading not only my OS but my software as well. In that time I've also deleted many applications I didn't end up using. I can tell that my computer doesn't run as smoothly and flawlessly as it used to; and I'm beginning to see unique problems with Safari and Flash.
I'm looking to do a fresh reinstall of Snow Leopard, and I want to know what the easiest way will be for me to retain all of the things on my computer - Applications, Passwords, Preferences, Pics, Fonts, etc... while clearing out all of the old unused files, and miscellaneous junk that's collected over the years.
    Thanks in advance.

I think that Templeton was suggesting to restore from Time Machine just the files you want - not everything. His suggestion sounds like a good one to me.
But before doing that, have you tried logging in to a different user account to see if the problems persist there? The results of that test will tell you if reinstalling is a good idea or not.

  • What's the easiest way to remove/append a line of a text file???

The line to remove can be any line in the file - not only the first or last one.
Is there any good tutorial for file operations?
    Thanks a million,
    Serano.

To remove a line from a text file, the easiest way is to read it in one line at a time and write out all lines except the one you want to remove to a new version of the file. Likewise, to insert a line, you read the file one line at a time and write the lines to a new version, inserting the new line at its correct spot.

  • Easiest way to remove background from an image

    Hello-
I am using Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended and I am working on trying to select a portion of a photo to use as a watermark. The photo is of a racecar in the foreground and I want to exclude the background (which is the road). Of the selection tools I really like the Magnetic Lasso tool to get in close on the objects edges but sometimes it selects areas I don't want. Does anyone know how to adjust the magnetic lasso tool once you have it all the way around an object? I've also tried the Magic Wand tool but found I couldn't drag it into a new document so that didn't work. I just need to find the easiest way to accomplish this task. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help!

<br />The pen tool is not likely the fastest way to isolate the car from the background but it is certainly the most accurate. Learn to use the pen tool; you will not be disappointed.

  • The best way to remove a sound?

    Hello,
I have an outside sound, which plays at the same time as the vocalist start to sing in my voice track. These two sounds (the outside one and the vocal) are so mixed, that I don't seem to be able to remove the outside sound without destroying the vocal. Could anyone advise me on which is the best way to deal with this situation? Thanks!

There's no such thing as 'impossible' in this context. If you really do have a vocal-only track from a live concert (er, perhaps you should have mentioned this before...), then you put the soloist back in the same space, and just re-record the offending bit and mix it back. Or just use a similar mic setup somewhere else, and use the ambience of the original recording to convolve the sound from this (which Audition can do) to sound similar to the original. In desperate situations, this can often work rather better than you might think.
There may be other options too - can you tell us more about the way this was recorded, in terms of tracks, mics, etc? It's just possible that if this is the right sort of stereo recording, a sound emanating from a place different from the sound you want may be able to be reduced somewhat anyway.

  • What is the easiest way to remove the fast foward button from the play bar?

Everytime a user clicks on the fast foward (not the forward) it screws up the audio. It doesnt really serve an purpose in my CBT so I would like to just remove it. Is there an easy way?

you don't indicate what version you're using, but in Cp5.5 (and I presume it's similar in Cp6), go to Project > Skin Editor, then uncheck the buttons you don't want.

  • Is there a way to remove wind sound?

Will one of the audio filters in FCE-4 bring down the sound of wind?  If so which one should I play with?  thanks.

No audio filter in FCE can effectively remove wind noise.
This is something you really have to take care of when you shoot your video (and/or record your audio).
You can try one of these sound utilities to reduce the wind noise (provided you have at least a few seconds of plain wind noise from which they can 'learn' the noise.

If you wish to remove any line inside of a text file, you're going to have to use random access. The documentation for the class is located here:
    http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.3/docs/api/java/io/RandomAccessFile.html
If you wish to append to a text file, you can use FileWriter. If you pass a boolean of value true as the second argument to the constructor, it will append to the file.

  • Easiest way to play APE sound files

I found a bunch of websites linking to a plugin for xmms, which is what I want, but all links are dead Can I still get the plugin somewhere or do I have to do something else?

APE is bad bad bad bad! Flac is a lot better and more widely supported.
Here is a bash script to convert all apes in a folder to flac. Because they're both lossless formats there will be NO loss in quality.
    #!/bin/bash
    for file in *ape
    do
    nice --adjustment=5 mac "$file" "$file.wav" -d
    done
    rename 's/ape.wav/wav/' *
    for file in *wav
    do
    nice --adjustment=5 flac "$file"
    done
    mv *.wav *.ape ~/.Trash
Save the above as ape2flac.sh .
Drag this in a folder containg ape files (remember you need flac and mac from aur installed) open a terminal cd to the directory containg the ape2flac script and run ./ape2flac.sh and it will then decompress the apes to wav, then flac will encode them to flac then the script moves all ape and wav files to ~/.Trash.

  • How do I remove the sound of a door shutting?

    Hi there,
I am new to auditions and a complete newbie.
I installed the programme because I was told I could remove background noises with it. I have a rather difficult problem. We recorded an interview of a woman, unfortunately, there is a rather loud sound of a door shutting in the background. It's short and loud. Unfortunately, it's not in between words but just when she speaks.
Is there a way to remove this sound/make it less obnoxious?
If you have any suggestions, please give me a step-by-step instruction for beginners.
    Many thanks in advance!

First off make a copy of the audio in case you do something you shouldn't.
Open the the audio file in edit view and 'show the spectral frequency display' (shift D)
Locate the offending sound and using the 'Spot Healing Brush' (B) carefully 'paint' the area
Using this method and depending on all sorts of variables you may get some satisfaction
Just remember that this is destructive editing so once you save the file there is no going back - hence the reason to make a copy

  • A way to remove sound source?

In system pref > sound > device for sound output I'm wondering if there's a way to remove an option listed. It lists my HDMI connected external monitor even though there's no speakers on it and while it's not hurting anything it'd be nice to just have Apple stop recognizing it as a sound source or to at least have it removed from the list.

Yes, I am also seeing that when I connect my 42" LCD to the Mac. I guess it's something we will have to live with.
Just ensure that the device is not the default destitination for sound. Hold down the OPT key while click the Sound menu at the top. Is there a checkmark beside the HDMI device in the drop-down menu? If so, select your internal speakers.
Otherwise, I don't have any other suggestions.

  • Is there a way to remove a painting on a wall in a shot?

a couple walk by a wall with a painting hanging behind them. is there a way to remove it? like copy a blank space and paste it on the painting? something like that possible? do i have to go frame by frame? its like 15 total seconds...

    I agree.
Blurring the area sounds more viable.
Perhaps our friend might go to Andy Mees' site and download his FREE key frame-able "Andy's Region Blur":

  • Easiest way to extract data from dead Macbook Pro?

I figured if anyone could help, it would be you guys. I would imagine a large majority of you are more computer savvy than anyone I know. My MBP crashed almost a year ago, I opened it one morning to find it wouldn't turn on. It doesn't properly boot, it just sounds different. The screen stays black and the light on the front isn't the same, I think it kind of goes in and out.
Anyway, unfortunately I've given up on getting the Mac back, but I really need the stuff that was on it. I heard I could put this hard drive in a new MBP when I get one, but that probably won't be anytime soon. What would the cheapest and/or easiest way to retrieve my data? I was hoping a friend could somehow open its files and put it on an xhd? Something tells me it's not that easy though. Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated

shldr2thewheel: Right on. It's good to know there are options. However, if it comes down to something like that, I'll just have to wait until I make a lot more than what I make now. I could care less about most of the stuff, I just want all of the videos I've taken on Photo Booth. My best friend died last year and it has some of the best times of my life on there.
Shootist007: I'm at work now and it's been over 6 months since I've even tried to turn it on. From what I remember, the boot noise doesn't go 'up' like normal. It used to make two noises really fast, the latter being higher. I'm sure there's a much better way to describe it but I sure can't think of it. The system does come to life, but it doesn't do anything. The fans turn on, the LED light slowly flashes, but the screen does nothing. I also seem to remember the sound of it being on being a lot quieter, like it wasn't actually on. I'm sorry if this isn't enough to work with.

The videos I purchased on iTunes are taking up all the storage on my IPad. Is there a way to remove them from my iPad to free up some storage, but store them in the cloud to access in the future?

Thx - the videos are on my Ipad - that is the problem - they are taking up all the storage and there is no room for anything else. Is there any place I can store them so that I can access them from time to time, but not have they use up all the space on the IPad? Sounds like the cloud is out...
