Easiest way to save data (itunes, pics) from my imac.

What is the easiest way to save data from my imac to turn around and put it on a macbook. I don't yet have the laptop.

Get yourself an external firewire+USB drive, and either use  SuperDuper!    to clone your data to the external, or drag and drop what you want onto the external.  Remember to format it as Mac OS Extended (journaled) and partition it as GUID.

  • What's the easiest way to transfer 60GB of pics from old mac to new mac

I just got an awesome 24" iMac and want to permanently move 60GB of pics on my older MacBook Pro to my new iMac. I have iPhoto '08 on both computers. Do I just hook up the 2 computers via FireWire and import from within iPhoto on the new computer or is there something else I should do or look out for. Thanks

use the migration assistant, if it's a brand new mac, it will transfer everyting from your old mac to your new mac.
When I said everything, it's everything, your favorite in safari, your music, your email account, your internet connection setup and of course all your photo library.
Migration assistant is in Application - utilities then choose migration assistant. You need to plug both computer together via a firewire cable.
If you just want to tranfer the 60gb of photo you can just restart your old computer by pressing T and this will put your computer in target mode (you will see a big firewire logo moving on the screen. But make sure before you restart your computer and pressing the T, make sre both computer are plug together with a firewire cable.
Then, the hard drive of the old computer will mount on the desktop of the new mac and you can copy your file, like any external hard drive

Your best option is to post this in the iTunes forum.

  • Updated to iTunes 11, all my playlists are gone, is there a way to save /transfer the playlist from my iPad to the computer?

    Hi,
I have just updated to iTunes 11, once I opened itunes I noticed all my music, books, programs and app's had disapeared. Luckily for me I have everything backed up, except for my playlists.
Is there a way to save /transfer the playlist from my iPad to the computer?
And is there a way to backup the playlist for next time I need to restore my computer or update Itunes.
    Thanks

And is there a way to backup the playlist for next time I need to restore my computer or update Itunes.
Your playlists and other info is stored in the "iTunes Library..ITL" file in your My Documents\My Music\iTunes directory, if you regularly back up that file you are safe. Also just to be sure also backup the iTunes Library.xml which is located in the same directory.

  • TS3992 how do i transfer data and pics from iphone 4s to iphine 5s

How do I transfer pics, data and apps from my iphone 4S to my new iphone 5S?

    Hi Julia,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
Probably the easiest way to transfer your iTunes Store purchases is to simply download them to the computer by using iTunes in the Cloud.
Download past purchases - Apple Support
The other option is to transfer your purchases by following the direactions in the article below.
Re-download or transfer your iTunes Store purchases from an iPhone, iPad or iPod to a computer - Apple Support
    Cheers,

Your itunes library should be on your computer and should be included in your regular backup copy of your computer.

How do I save my iTunes library from my windows pc to my iCloud account?

You can't. iCloud does not apply to music. You will need to subscribe to iTunes Match to get music into the cloud but note that this is not a back up service.

  • Best Way to Save Data

Hi all, I'm relatively new to Java, and have a quick question.
What is the best way to save data in an application, and what is a good rule of thumb when to dive into a database to hold the information. For example a directory of people and their information. I want the program to be able to add/update/delete the information with ease.
I was reading in Core Java Vol II how to save object data to a file, but it seems tedious if I have to run through a list of objects and save each one. I just want to be able to save records, and retrieve them to edit later.
    Thanks in advance,

What is the best way to save data in an applicationThere is almost never a "best way" to do anything. At least not if you don't define your requirements exactly. It depends on tons of things, that's why there are so many ways to "save data".
Writing to files and saving to databases are just two of those, and even among those, there are thousand of different ways to handle it.
, and what is a good rule of thumb when to dive into a database to hold the information. When the data is structured and you want to do queries on it, then you can probably look into a database. When the data is structured and you've got lots of it, then you really should look into databases.
For example a directory of people and their information. I want the program to be able to add/update/delete the information with ease.Too little information, but I'd tend to go with a database. But then again, I'm going for a DB rather quickly.
I was reading in Core Java Vol II how to save object data to a file, but it seems tedious if I have to run through a list of objects and save each one.I don't know what exactly you're talking about. Are you talking about serialization? What makes you feel that it is tedious? Can you describe it?
I just want to be able to save records, and retrieve them to edit later.Well, that can be done in many, many ways. That alone doesn't force you to go one way or another. It's pretty much the definition of "save data".

What is the easiest way to move my iPhoto library from my macbook to my new mac pro?

Surprisingly easy! Go into the Finder, then into the Photos Library. In there, there will be a file called your iPhoto Library. It holds all your photos, essentially a special type of folder. Using an external hard drive transfer it to the same location on your new Mac. Now, when you boot iPhoto on the new Mac, it will recognise it and you'll see all your photos instantly!
There's a really good video on it here...

  • Best way to move/copy iTunes library from PC to Mac

    Hi,
What's the best way to get my iTunes library from my PC to my new Mac?
The two computers are both networked.
    Thanks.

    Greetings David:
I have just completed this task... It took many attempts to get the two computers talking (windows xp pro, and new Imac g5). When I finally got them to talk to each other, the file transfer was brutallly slow. I used the ether-net cable to connect the two machines directly. The system was not very stable and crashed continuously. I would get one or two songs transferred and then the mac would lock up and require a restart (command option esc), via force quit of finder. Relaunch would not work, and I had to shut the machine off with the on off switch each time.
Today I finally burned the tunes on 2 CDs and simply dumped them into the music file. The PC burns a full ( ~ 800 megs) in about 10 minutes. Mac can down load the CD in ~ 6 minutes. This adds up to less than 20 minutes. Using the direct connection (indicated 100 Mbts/sec on the PC) the process was pathetically slow (hours restarting and horsing around).
One of my goals was to get the machines talking to each other, having accomplished this, it think it is not a worthwhile effort.
    Best of luck to you,
    Mike

The usual "no information" question is of the form "My car won't start. Tell me how to fix it"
Yours is a bit different - "I tried to fix my car. Tell me how to know it's fixed".

  • How can I move my itunes movies from my iMac to my mac mini which is serving as a media server attached to HDTV?

I want to move my itunes movies from my iMac to my Mac Mini, which is hooked up to my HDTV, so that I can save space on the iMac and use the direct source Mac Mini to view the iTunes movies that I purchase and download.  Can anyone give me ideas on how to do that?

iTunes does not have provision for automatically storing one kind of media on a separate drive, so you have some basic decisions to make first.  Do you want these movies to still appear in your iTunes library, or are you content with browsing filenames on a drive in Finder when you want to look for one?  The second's the easiest thing because then you don't have to have an external drive permanently turned on and attached to your computer (wired or wireless).  To do that you literelly only need to drag your movies folder to an archive drive and delete movies from iTunes.  To watch them again you can add it back to iTunes while holding down the option key so the movie is used from its location on the external drive.
There's ways to move the movies to an external drive while keeping them in iTunes but the external drive iwll always have to be turned on and connected to the computer or you will see a bunch of broken link exclamation marks.
Realize what you are talking about is not "backup".  Backup (which you should do) is putting a second or more copy of items on external drives for the day when your internal drive fails and everything on it is lost, inclduing all your home photos and perhaps things that have been pulled from the iTunes Store and can no longer be re-downloaded.

I cannot access my settings from my iPhone. Is there a way to manually enable the backup from my iMac?

I don't quite understand why you can't access settings on your iPhone. You can back up your iPhone to your computer by connecting it to iTunes on your computer.
