Easily switch between scratch disk locations?

I have a project which I need to edit and it's going to take up a lot of room as it's shot throughout the summer and will contain hours of footage. I already have a hard drive devoted to all of my current editing projects (lets call that Drive 1) however this new project will be so big it needs another drive entirely. I have installed a hard drive (Drive 2) into my Mac Pro just for this new project.
I know by going into FCP > System Settings I can designate a new scratch disk on Drive 2 however I have a question.
I want to upload this project to Drive 2 at various points throughout the summer but at the same time I still need to upload and access my other final cut pro projects and content on Drive 1.
How can I easily switch between the capture scratch disk locations and make sure that content is being uploaded and rendered in the right location? I want to make sure I do this right before I add any new content to Drive 2.
Hope this makes sense.

Thanks for your reply.
So if I want to upload, edit etc content to Drive 1, I just unselect all of the Drive 2 preferences in FCP > System Settings and vice versa Then when I want to use them again I just re-select them?

  • Can you save system settings scratch disks locations for each project?

When you begin a new project in FCE you need to set the System Settings Scratch Disks. Typically you would set a new folder for each project to keep all of your files for each project in one location for that project.
I have a couple of FCE projects going at the same time. I've set each project with a different system setting scratch disk location. But if I open a project which should have a unique scratch disk location folder that I've already set before for that project, it ignores the setting I set for that project and just shows the scratch disk setting for the last project opened instead. It does not appear to save or remember the unique setting for that project.
If you have multiple projects going at the same time, is there a way to save the systems settings scratch disk location for each project and have FCE remember that location for each project?

I turned off the Open Last Project on Application Launch in the User Preferences and it still does not remember the unique scratch disk settings for each project.
Since it is quite common to be working on multiple projects simultaneously, you would think that there would be a way in which to save the settings for each project to help keep all related files better organized.
    Any other suggestions?

  • How to Get XDCAM Transfer files into FCP scratch disk locations

    Hi
I'm new to XDCAM transfer. I have XDCAM Browser and Transfer, latest versions. I have successfully imported into FCP, but I was surprised to see the footage stored in a default 'Movies' location. I thought, okay, I'll just change the import location in the XDCAM Transfer preferences to the FCP scratch disk location but then I realized that since I have multiple scratch disk locations I would be defeating the way FCP works, which is to to automatically go to the location with the room for the files.
I didn't have this problem with Panasonic P2.
Is there a way to import XDCAM files into FCP and have it go to the scratch disk locations already established in FCP?
    Thank you,
    Phil

    Hi Phil
Although XDCAM Transfer can be launched from within FCP (using the File > Import > Sony XDCAM.. command) the app itself is standalone and works outside of the control of FCP. It has no means of discovering and using the Capture Scratch location defined within FCP (because Apple do not provide any means for a third party app to do so).
The Panasonic P2 format is (can be) transfered directly using FCP's own Log and Transfer interface and so works wholly within FCP hence the target directory for imports honors the defined Capture Scratch location.
If you are working with the XDCAM EX series of camera's then you can use Sony's FCP Log and Transfer plugin (PDZK - LT1) instead of XDCAM Transfer to import your clips, and so achieve the functionality you are looking for. Although you lose some of the flexibility/functionality of the standalone XDCAM Transfer app (PDZK-P1) the benefit of handling everything directly with FCP's own interface might be preferable for you.
    Hope it helps

  • Easily switching between skype accounts on same ma...

    Hello,
I had an old version of Skype that allowed me to easily switch between my company's skype account and my personal account. There was an "account" tab and a "sign in as different user" option that then showed the other account I wasn't currently signed into and allowed me to switch without having to enter login info (it saved passwords and usernames).
Now I have version 5.3.0.1093 and I have to sign out of skype and sign back in by entering username and password. Does anyone know how to do this in a more fluid way like the older version?
    thanks!

    while I don't have solution to your problem, I may have a considerable suggestion that may help you.  You can actually run two Skype accounts at the same time in the same computer;

  • Easily switching between languages

Hi, I'm new to Macbooks. I used to have (and still do, just never use it) a ThinkPad. One great thing about it is that I could easily switch between languages by pressing a couple of buttons (Control and Shift). Is it possible to do that with a MacBook or to make it possible? Or am I stuck with going to the top bar and manually switching between the languages? Thanks

Look in the International system preference and the input pane. You'll see it at the bottom.

  • On project load, CC7.2 on Windows 8 forces me to change scratch disk location away from Mac-formatted external HDD

When I open a project saved on my external hard drive it wants to change the scratch disks to My Documents Folder.
Once I accept it, it opens the project and then I am actually able to change the scratch disks back. Weird.
It's worth mentioning that my external drive is formatted for Mac and I bought a driver from Paragon allowing my PC to read and write to it. Idk if this is where Pr gets confused.
    Windows 8.0
Pr CC latest update (todays date: 19 dec 13)
I hope someone is able to fix it.

    Hi frbra1,
The reason why you are getting this prompt is just beacause the files that are saved on your scratch disk while working on MAC have location "/Volume/name of the HD/program or file name", but when you connect that drive to windows the location changes to "Drive Name:\" . So. it is the adressing issue of the drive that you are facing with the drives. It is alo not always necessary that the drives get same name when they are attached to the machine.

  • Scratch disk locations

I am tech support for a high school. We are using SC3 in our video editing lab. We have installed 400GB D drives to act as scratch disks so we don't have to worry about our C drives getting cluttered. Is there a way to force all users to a given location on the D drive, or do all users need to change their settings?
    Thanks,
    Mike

Depending on how your lab is setup (ours is all imaged) you could do a "perfect & complete" install of PP on one machine and create disk images from that to every other machine. this is how we roll out installations with lots of custom paths and OS settings. only works well if all machines are basically identical. we then deep-freeze the installs so machines can't be ruined. this works nicely as you don't need to "lock down" machines with limited rights (which is always a bit of a pain in a video environment).

  • Scratch Disk Location ticked on F: Drive but still on C: Drive? (PLEASE HELP!!!)

When I first got Photoshop CS6 it loaded up very, very quickly. Then some time later it started loading up very slowly. I looked and whenever I started up photoshop it was taking GIGABYTES off of my C: Drive, not loading until it took up "x" amount of space. The C: drive only has about 9 GB left on it. I looked it up and people were saying it's the scratch disk that's the problem. I went to preferences and unticked C: and ticked F: (my larger drive) so that the scratch disk installed on the F: Drive. This is still not working, it stills takes the space off of my hard drive which pisses me off. Once in a blue moon it loads up in 5 secs without any space loss. But usually it takes about 5 mins to load and I'm up to about 1 GB remaining on the hard drive. Please dont ask me to get a bigger hard drive, I just wanna know how to fix this problem. I have 64x Windows 7 Ultimate. If you need other specs, let me know.

Make sure the old Photoshop temp files are removed from you user id temp space when you close down Photoshop.  If there are any still there delete then and start Photoshop  Then look in your user temp space make sure there are no Photoshop temp files. My scratch space is on c: and this is what I see get created in my user ID temp space when I start Photoshop.

  • Easily switch between proxy and no proxy

I am looking for an easy way to swithc between using a proxy server (at work) and a direct connection (at home).   I used to use a script that ran a sed on a bunch of configuration files to switch their network settings, but it would be much easier to point them all at something running locally and only need to change that.  Any ideas?

I'm trying to do exactly the same.  I've got it set up using squid, but I'm having issues with ports other than http. I've posted my problem along with my config files at http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=96471, so you can copy them to use as a starting point.  The way mine works at the moment is I've set up squid and iptables so that an app, e.g. firefox, sees it as a direct connection regardless of where I am. At work I simply start the squid and iptables services, and at home I stop them.

  • How can I have two customization views that I can easily switch between?

I have one landscape and one portrait monitor I want different views on. Specifically I want a different bookmarks bar and the tabs in a different place on the portrait monitor. Do I need to load 2 separate profiles or can I quick-switch my views for each window/screen easily.
Quick switching window views would be a nice feature anyway.

I've always wondered about that bracket-thingy, but I've been able to get along without it, so I don't worry about it any more.
Why would you want to try to program a doubly-charged carbon ion (C++), anyway? It's just going to find an oxygen ion or aromatic ring to react with, no matter what you do. You're sure not going to steer it towards another cation without going to Fermilab or CERN (Yes, I understand they use LabVIEW there).

  • 7344 servo motion switching between open and closed loop operation

I have a custom end-of-line test system presently using a 4-axis 7344 servo controller to perform various functional tests on small, brushed DC motors. The system is programmed in C/C++ and uses flex motion functions to control the motor during testing. Motors are coupled to external encoder feedback and third party PWM drives running in closed-loop torque mode from an analog command signal. The system uses all four motion axis channels on the 7344 board to independently and asynchronously test up to four production motors at a time.
In closed-loop mode, the system runs without issue, satisfying the battery of testing protocols executed by this system. I now have a request to add additional test functionality to the system. This testing must be run in open loop mode. Specifically, I need to use my +/- 10v analog output command to my torque drive to send different DAC output levels to the connected motor.drive while monitoring response.
I do not believe the flex motion library or 7344 controller includes functions to easily switch between open and closed loop mode without sending a new drive configuration. I am also under the impression that I cannot reconfigure one (or more) servo controller axis channels without disabling the entire drive. As my system runs each axis channel in an asynchronous manner, any requirement to shutdown all drives each time I change modes is an unworkable solution.
I am open to all ideas that will allow asynchronous operation of my 4 motor testing stations. If the only solution is to add a second 7344 controller and mechanical relays to switch the drive and motor wiring between two separately configured servo channels, so be it. I just want to explore any available avenue before I place a price tag on this new system requirement.
    Bob

    Jochen,
Thank you for the quick response. The 7344 board does an excellent job running my manufacturing motor assemblies through a custom end-of-line tester in closed loop mode. A portion of the performance history and test result couples the motor through a mechanical load and external shaft. The shaft is in contact with a linear encoder that closes my servo loop.
My new manufacturing requirement is to also sample/document how the small DC motor behaves in open loop operation. Your solution is exactly what I need to perform the additional functional tests on the product I am manufacturing. I see no reason why this cannot work. I was originally concerned that I would need to reinitialize the 7344 board after changing axis configuration. Initialization is a global event and impacts all four channels on the 7344 board.
Using flex_config_axis() to change axis configuration on a single channel without disturbing other potentially running axis channels will solve my concern. It will be several weeks before I can return to the manufacturing facility where the 7344-based testing machine is located. I will update this thread once I verify a successful result.

  • Scratch disks and RAM usage

i would like to understand the relationship between scratch disks and RAM usage in Photoshop.
While i was working on a fairly big psb file (2gb), photoshop kept prompting that I was out of memory, but in fact the utilization was only 75% (i had 16gbs total, photoshop was only using 7gb, and i allowed PS to use up to 14gb in total). when it says out of memory, it was actually my scratch disk at fault ( i only set 1 scratch disk, which was my 120gb SSD running out of space).
any idea how I can optimize PS to use up all my RAM first before even touching my scratch disk? (short of using a RAMdisk, please).
    thanks!

I am curious about this also. I just reinstalled W-7--have 11 G of physical memory--a ton of hard drive empty space also, and I have been wondering why PS_CC is so slow--since basically I have only put my Security and Browser in addition to Adobe back on the Dell XPS computer..... At least now it does show the downloading percentage (like .psd file) , but that must be what is happening.  I do think that some of these "frozen" screens I have been experiencing, was because the program was using scratch disk, instead of the Ram... I came up from CS-5, and can't describe it in detail, but just realize how slow PS-CC is in most everything.  Going back and see if reallocating will help...

  • Fastest way you switch between multiple images (CS3) ?

I'm originally a Fireworks user (from 2001) and am starting to learn Photoshop as it is in my CS3 set and it's superiority in image editing.
BUT, I was suprised/shocked/P.O.-ed to notice Photoshop doesn't have tabs to easily switch between images like Fireworks has had for the last 7 years.
(Yes, I realize CS4 has that option now, but I'm not willing to dole out another $600 bucks for another upgrade )
    Anyway, enough ********.
    My question is:
"Can you tell me how you switch between multiple images opened in Photoshop CS3?"
I'm assuming there must be a keyboard shortcut I can't find, or something besides having to shrink down the images and routing through them . . .
Thank you for your time and help,
    Brad

  • Switching between the Classic View and the Tree View in transaction FEBA

    Hi All
I would like to know how to switch between the Classic View and the Tree View on transaction FEBA for post processing of bank statements. I have a scenario where in the DEV client the transaction is calling up the Tree View and in my QA environment it calls up the Classic View, and I would like to know if there is a way to easily switch between the two views.
    I'd appreciate your assistance.

    Hi,
I think you can do the same using transaction codes FEBA and FEBAN.
    Thanks

  • Scratch Disk Desperate Help!!!

If anybody knows anything, or can research anything I can't find, I would appreciate it. As of a few days ago my computer got a lil virus, I had to system restore. Virus gone, BUT, seems as though my Photoshop kind of reset itself. Becuase when I opened it, the template was different (I used to have only 2 windows on the right, it reset itself to open with 4 windows) and when I used to create a new file the background was the transparent checkered pattern, and now it's just a plan white background, so something obviously reset.
THat's cool, no problem there. So I go to create a new photo, and I use a VERY simple too, I use the Paint Bucket to fill a 500x500 image, Photoshop has a lilttle load bar come up so it can LOAD to fill my little space, and if i let it sit, it will eventually say "Scratch Disk is Full".
Now, I've gone online to see how to fix that. I've found multiple FAQ sites. And this is what I've done to still no avail:
    1. I've gone into Preferences and set the Scratch Disk location to my C:// drive that it previously was.
    2. Set it so that 100% of my RAM can be used for Photoshop
    3. Defragmented my C:// Drive
    4. Searched for any ~PSD temp files, my computer said it found none.
And now I have NO idea what to do, and it's very very frusterating. If anybody knows anything else I could try, or knows a great FAQ website, or another Photoshop Forum I could go to, I'd be eternally in you dept.

Try resetting your preferences as described in the FAQ.
    http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.ef4a07f/1
You either have to physically delete (or rename) the preference files or, if using the Alt, Ctrl, and Shift method, be sure that you get a confirmation dialog.
This resets all settings in Photoshop to factory defaults.
A complete uninstall/re-install will not affect the preferences and a corrupt file there may be causing the problem.
