Easy: Convert Path to Selection Quickly

I''m using Photoshop CS2:
I'm coloring comic book pages as a hobby and to create areas to fill, I make a path with the pen.  I then convert the path to a selection and fill it with the paint bucket.  But converting the path to a selection requires clicking on the path palette, then dragging the path to the "load path as a selection" button.  Since I make a different path for every item on the page, this gets to be a real time killer. I tried going into the keyboard shortcuts to assign CTRL+P to "load path as a selection", but "load path as a selection" is not there to be assigned a keyboard shortcut.  If I use what is there, ("Make selection..."), when I use CTRL+P, I get a dialog I don't want that asks me about the feathering radius, anti-aliasing, etc...  So is there a way that I can simply close a path, then convert to a selection without all the extra steps?  A keyboard shortcut would be fine, but I can't seem to make one using just Photoshop options.  What to do?

Use Ctrl+Enter to make a selection from the active path (no dialog)
For a dialog, right click inside the active path and choose Make Selection.

  • Tolerance dialogue missing on "make work path from selection"

I am trying to convert a 1-color drawing to a path so I can put it into Illustrator. I use the magic wand to select the edges and get a nice tight fit. But when I select the "Make work path from selection" button, I get a sloppy fit. I've looked this up, and supposedly I should get a dialogue box asking me to state the tolerance. I have never seen that box - I've tried it and had colleagues come try it. My version 13.1.2 x64. Seems like a bug to me, but maybe I'm missing something. Is there another way to do this? Thank.s

Other ways are to right click inside the selection and choose Make Work Path or use the flyout menu from the Paths panel and choose Make Work Path.
Hah!  I didn't know that RK
[EDIT]  As an aside to the above information, having had a play with it, I have realised how poorly the 'Make work path from selection' feature works in Photoshop.  It has always worried me that distibution of points that result from using that feature on a Shift drag eliptical marquee circle, appear less than optimal, but I have just lived with that because it is quick and convenient.  But having just looked again, zooming right in and activating the point handles, the curve is just plain horrible!
Me thinks I shall take the time to do it properly in future, by using the Shape tool.
It also amazed me how many points were used when setting tolerance to the minimum of .5
Anyway...  I am not getting my work done here, so time to earn a living

  • Can we convert a SQL (Select Statement) to Procedure.?

    Hi
I am using a select sql for retrieving the results - Below is a sample sql select query.
    select TableC.DATEFIELD as QUERY_DATE,
    TableB.COLUMN1 PROCESS,
    TableC.COLUMN1 PRODUCT,
    sum(TableC.COLUMN4) as OPEN_INSTANCES
    from      TableA, TableB, TableC
    where TableB.COLUMN1      = TableA.COLUMN2
    and      TableA.COLUMN2      = TableC.COLUMN2
    and      DATEFIELD <= to_date('2011-02-02' ,'YYYY-MM-DD')
    and      DATEFIELD >= to_date('2011-02-02' ,'YYYY-MM-DD')
    and      TableC.COLUMN4 <= (24 * 3600 )
    and      TableB.COLUMN1 like 'PROCESSID'
    and      TableC.COLUMN1 in ('OSRCITR')
    group by TableC.DATEFIELD as QUERY_DATE,
    TableA.COLUMN1 PROCESS,
    TableC.COLUMN1 PRODUCT
I believe if we use a Procedure, It would be much faster. Is there any way that we can convert the above select sql to a procedure. If yes, how can it be.
    Thanks in Advance.

What version of Oracle are you on?
Under the right conditions deconstructing a huge query into smaller components sometimes can offer performance increases, but this is more true of older versions of Oracle than recent ones. Lately I get better results from tuning queries in place - as Aman pointed out you introduce context switching (moving between the SQL and PL/SQL engines to do work) which can also hurt performance.
Try tuning the query first. Get an execution plan. Things you can look for include
    * make sure the driving table is the best one
    * are the join columns properly indexed? Are existing indexes being suppressed due to the functions?
Is "and      TableB.COLUMN1 like 'PROCESSID' " correct? without a wildcard LIKE should evalate to =

  • Transformation - Rotate only moves path, not selected pixels.

    Hi All,
I must be missing some simple click somewhere.... Just starting out with the Pen tool, paths and converting into a selection.
Trying to transform a converted selection pixels made from a path.
Current layer is visible and selected. Current path is selected. I use the path-selection tool to pick the path. I do "make selection" which turns pixels into a selection. So far, so good.
After going to Edit | Transform Path | Rotate, the bounding box is displayed. I drag the corner and the bounding box turns along with the path I made. The selection does not move at all. When I hit the 'commit' button, no pixels are moved. Nothing changes in the picture.
If I do all the above in an untouched fresh .psd file with just a background layer and a layer 1 included, everything works. Whatever is selected rotates fine.
Why would a Transform Path | Rotate work fine in one photo, but not in another?
I'm sure it's something simple. Thanks in advance.

OK, found the solution in another forums.adobe.com post.... but it's non-intuitive.
The "transform path" menu option instead of "transform" being displayed may have something to do with having multiple paths for an image. Not really sure. It's just a hunch.

    Ah with you now.
With the selection on screen click on the Move tool. Then check the "Show transform tools"box at the top of the screen. After that transform away...
    I hope this helps

OK. That method is not very good anyway.
Make the path using the Ellipse tool set to Paths In the Options Bar.

  • Only available option is convert path to extrusion?

When I right click on a part of my image with the direct selection tool, only the option "convert path to extrusion" is available. How do I make the free transform option available again?

    Hi!
Have you tried getting the move tool, and selecting "show transform controls" in its option bar? that way, you can scale them anytime.

  • I am having problems updating my itunes to the latest version, on each stage I am getting a message 'The feature you are trying to use in on a network resource that is unavailable.'  I try to click OK it fails and I do not know an alternate path to select

I am having problems updating my itunes to the latest version, on each stage I am getting a message 'The feature you are trying to use in on a network resource that is unavailable.'  I try to click OK it fails and I do not know an alternate path to select, please help?
    I get message like below on each stage of the update, Quicktime, Safari & iTunes;
It's so annoying as until I update my iTunes account my phone won't sync.

Many thanks for the screenshot. (The key to these is knowing which particular .msi file is being mentioned by the message.)
    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    (2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any Bonjour entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?
(Assuming that the QuickTime and Safari messages were also citing bonjour64.msi, you should also then be good to go with those installs too.)

  • File Dialog can return incorrect path when selecting Windows special folders

I found an interesting bug when writing an application today. Basically the File Dialog express VI can return the wrong path if selecting special folders in some circumstances. This bug seems especially tough to track down, but I think I managed to figure it out. Steps to reproduce using LabVIEW 8.6.1 on Windows XP:
Use LabVIEW's File > Open... command to open any VI that is not located directly on your desktop. You MUST use the File > Open... command as this will set the working directory for the dialog box.
Close the VI (all we cared about was ensuring the working directory was set).
    Create a new VI.
Place the File Dialog express VI onto the diagram (Programming > File I/O > Advanced File Functions > File Dialog).
Configure the express VI to select a folder and an existing item, leave the selection enabled to limit to a single item.
Create an indicator to show the returned path from the dialog.
Run the VI. Navigate to either your Desktop via the large button on the left, or the pull down menu up top.
    Click the "Current Folder" button.
Observe how the VI returns whatever the original location of the dialog box was, not the desktop directory.
I have not confirmed this bug on other operating systems but following the steps above reproduces it on my system.

This is a very unusual problem you are having.  I tried it on another PC in the office and it did not show the problem you are experiencing.  Are you able to replicate this every time, or only occasionally?  Are you able to see this on other computers?  Do you see this same problem using other software on the computer?  Do you have the most recent updates from Microsoft?  Perhaps the answer to these questions can help shed some light on the problem at hand.

  • Load Path as Selection

I completed my path and clicked Load Path as a Selection.  I have 2 cut out areas (holes) in the path, and the selection process did not include the holes, even though the path shows them.  I had the button pressed "exclude overlapping path areas" when I made the path.
How do I get the path to select the outline, minus the "holes"?  Kind of like a coffee cup profile with the hole in the handle excluded to show just the outline of the cup.

Here's the problem with working with paths in Photoshop: the stacking of the shapes inside the path is very important but you can't easily change that.
The uppermost shape interacts with all the shapes beneath it acording to the settings in the Options bar, if you want to rearange them you will have to select the path you want to bring to the front, Cut it and then Paste it back in place. You won't notice any difference on screen but now the path you just pasted is at the top of the stack
So if you first make a large circle and then you make a small circle in the middle of it, to cut out the small circle from the large one you have to select the small circle and from the options bar select Subtract from Shape area because the small circle is at the top. But if you first make the small circle and then the large one and want to achieve the same result then you have to select the large circle and select Exclude from Shape area. Or of course cut/paste the small circle so that it's at the top of the stack and then with it selected chose Subtract from Shape area

  • New features, e.g., blur path and select focus, are not showing up in my PS drop down menus

Although I've downloaded the CC PS 2014 updates the new features, e.g., blur path and select focus, are not showing up in my PS drop down menus - anybody know why and what I need to do?

Are you sure you understand the Cloud License concept?
You are entitled to keep Photoshop CC and install Photoshop CC 2014, so CC 2014 is not connected with additional costs and the time it takes to install the new version of Photoshop should not be that much of a imposition, should it?

  • Ipod isn't showing up as a playlist for easy transfer of manually selected songs?

Hey Apple Support Community.  Previously iTunes allowed me to add songs individually to fill up my ipod bu right clicking and adding the song to the ipod by way of the "add song to playlist" option in the drop down box.  Sunddenly my ipod isn't showing up as a playlist for easy transfer of manually selected songs?  I've had to create a temporary playlist and use the "autofill" on the ipod screen to add the songs I want.  It's kind-of tedious.  What happened?  Has iTunes changed the way you're allowed to fill up your ipod?  Or is there some glitch in my ipod that iTunes can't see it so as to provide it as an option for being a playlist?
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

    a few typos:
"bu" should be "by"....fill up my ipod by right clicking...
"Sunddenly" of course should be "Suddenly"

  • How do I convert .m4v to Apple Quick-Time 5, 6, and 7 (.mov, .qt)

how do I convert .m4v to Apple Quick-Time 5, 6, and 7 (.mov, .qt)??  Thanks!

I once had a problem with a media player not handling .m4v files correctly. Simply changing the extension to .mov fixed the problem. Just delete the "4" and replace it with an "o". Ignore the warning that may appear regarding changing the file type - in fact it's preferable that you make a copy of the .m4v file beforehand.
There's no guarantee that this will help with your particular issue, but worth a try!

  • Converting a path to selection deselects the path group in the paths palette.

Hi, does anyone know how I can stop this from happening. It did not do it in any other versions of PS I have used including CS6. Before when I selected one path in a group of paths, and then hit convert to selection the rest of the paths in the group would remain visible and the group/slot would remain highlighted in the paths palette. Now when I select a path and convert it to a selection it deselects the whole group in the paths palette so they are not visible anymore. When you have many paths in a group and you want to contiually deselect and select paths in the same group and convert to selection and then deselect to convert another path in the group to a selection to then have to reselect the group on the paths palette each time you wish to do this is a serious pain and waste of valuable time. I cannot recollect their being a setting that would disable or enable this feature. Can anyone help?

    Hi Lemorris,
There is another discussion here regarding this issue. I'm hoping that an engineer will be able to answer our questions. So far it has been 15 days since this initial request for help was posted and no one from Adobe seems to care about the fact that we are having serious issues with the new path behaviours. Sadly these new behaviours are a possible game changer for me as they are adding quite a significant amount of time to my working processes. I'm still within my 30 day cancellation period for Adobe CC and if I do not get a satisfactory reply from someone at Adobe who can at least relieve my conscerns and tell me that this is a known bug and will be rectified at some point I will be cancelling my subscription. I have a genuine concern about the software and not one single person from Adobe has deemed my issue as worthy of reply. To me that is a disgraceful customer service.
