Easy Fix for frayed Yoga charger cable

The charging cable for my Yoga started to fray (shielding metal mesh visible) right where it leaves the powerbrick after 6 months of light use. I used some sugru to repair it and can't recommend it highly enough. I have no affilation with them.
Interestingly this area of the charger for the Yoga 2 has been redesigned.

the best explanation for this that i've seen is that there can be power drain problems in USB 2.0. drop below 500 mA running through the port and everything goes to pot. this may well explain why switching back to USB 1.1 sometimes works like a charm, and also explains why it's important to have the ipod plugged into a high powered USB port rather than a low power port.
i've seen a confirmed case of a USB connection going west after a scanner got plugged into the beast in question ... periodically i see other reports along these lines, too.

Welcome to the Club! Got the same Problem and had a really hard time reaching the Customer Support because they were down due to maitenance! Just wrote to their experts chat and hope to get an answer in this life!
I tried to authorize my Computer and eBookreader with a new Adobe-ID, but it says I've done used this ID too often, even though it was brandnew! Can't copy my just-purchased eBook because "Copying is not allowed".
I hold my thumbs for you that Adobe solves this Problem fast enough. Other ways I'll sell my eBookreader and buy the Kindle-Reader from Amazon and say GOOD BYE to Adobe!

I have experienced the same issue. We have a USB power adaptor and a cable that we routinely use to charge our iPhones in the kitchen. While my iPhone4 keeps showing that error message, my wife's iPhone4S and all the kids iPods are charging just fine. Not a chance for a faulty power adaptor or cable.....
It also started very recently. My iPhone can be charged with my computer, my car's charger so my dock connector has to be OK. It's as if the hardware signature of the USB power adaptor is no longer recognized. Also coincides with recent software update....

Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for $199 for 64 GB 4g and $99 for the other 4Gs. They do not fix yours.

EASY fix for import/export drives not showing up!

I had that problem that I've heard about around here, where when you go to import or export, you can't select any of your drives, etc. you only get 'Desktop' and your user folder.
I went through EVERYTHING from my registry to, well, everything.
I read a post here that talked about moving your desktop directory; that is a pain and is dangerous for people who don't know what they're doing. Here's a much easier way!
First you need to find your preferences file. I'm running Windows7 32-bit, and mine was here:
C:\Users\Dave\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Lightroom\Preferences
Paths for other versions of windows can be found here:

Once you get there, make sure to close lightroom first. Then you want to open "Lightroom 2 Preferences.agprefs"
Find a section that says something like this:
    AgMRUPopupList_AgExport_destinationFolderPathPrefix = "s = {\
    \"C:\\\\Users\\\\Dave\\\\Pictures\",\
this is a list of where Lightroom will try to export pictures. For some reason having only that one line messes it up. so we add another like so:
    AgMRUPopupList_AgExport_destinationFolderPathPrefix = "s = {\
    \"C:\\\\Users\\\\Dave\\\\Pictures\",\
    \"F:\\\\part 1\",\
Note that the new directory has to be a real one or this won't work. It doesn't matter what it is though. Also note all the slashes, I don't know why they have to be there but they do.
Now when you go into lightroom, and you're at the export dialog, when it says where to export to, click the little arrow to drop a list down. choose your new directory, then you can use the choose correctly, all your drives will be there and everything, and it is almost fixed permanently (see below)!
The same thing goes for the import dialog issue,

Add a line so its like this:

Save it. Now go to import, copy to a directory, then use that drop-down to select f:\part 1 (or whatever you used), and the choose folder is almost permanently fixed!
It turns out this issue arises when, say, all of the previous paths Lightroom imported from/exported to no longer exist. This actually happened to me for stupid reasons (!), but it might just be you left a USB drive off or whatever...So it clears the list and effs it up. It's a bug in lightroom and I hope they fix it, but this fixes it for now (unless you cause it again...)
Yay! I spent about 3 hours on this. Thanks to the other posters who helped pieces of the puzzle!

I'm guessing the ext. drive may have been damaged during the forced shutdown, and a repair is needed. You could also try mounting it in Disk Utility. A PRAM reset may also help.
But you also should try to resolve the Kernel Panic.
Here's the most used site for Resolving Kernel Panics. Please do all the steps in order, even if you don't think you need to do a certain step.

[Fix] Windows 8 and 8.1: Easy fix for when you have forgotten your password.

Don't worry, It happens to everyone at some point. ;-)
If you are running Windows 8 or 8.1 you may be able to reset your password from another PC on the Microsoft website. This only works if you use a live account. If you do, you can access the password reset here: Microsoft Password Reset.
If you use a local account you can reset the password in the Command Prompt by following these steps:
Shut down the computer.
Turn on the PC and start repeatedly tapping F11 right away until it prompts you for your keyboard layout.
Select your keyboard layout.
Select Troubleshoot.
Select Advanced Options.
Select Command Prompt.
Type the following into command prompt: copy c:\windows\system32\utilman.exe c:\
Press enter and it should confirm that 1 file was copied.
Type the following into command prompt: copy c:\windows\system32\cmd.exe c:\windows\system32\utilman.exe
Confirm by pressing Y and hitting enter.
Close the command prompt and select Turn off your PC.
Turn on the PC.
Click the Ease of Access icon in the bottom left hand corner of the login screen. You will now notice that the icon will now open the command prompt instead of Ease of Access options.
In this command prompt window type: net user "yourusername" "yournewpassword" (without the quotes). NOTE: The username should show on the login screen, and is typically your name. If you're having trouble type net user and hit enter to see a list of users on the PC. For example, for me the actual command I would type would be: net user greatdekutree password123
Close the command prompt.
Log in with the password you chose for step 13. VOILA!
Now that you're back in we should get your Ease of Access settings back. It's pretty much the same few steps we did before but switch the commands:
Shut down the computer.
Turn on the PC and start repeatedly tapping F11 right away until it prompts you for your keyboard layout.
Select your keyboard layout.
Select Troubleshoot.
Select Advanced Options.
Select Command Prompt.
Type the following into command prompt: copy c:\utilman.exe c:\windows\system32\utilman.exe
Confirm by pressing Y and hitting enter.
Close the command prompt and select Turn off your PC.
I would also suggest that you create a password backup reset disc or USB drive now that you're back in Windows. See here for help with this: How to Create a Password Reset Disk on a USB Flash Drive in Windows 8 and 8.1.

Thank you both for your help...I have two questions related to this problem. The first one is do I lose any functionality by moving to the basic setting? That question is more out curiousity than anything. I also was reading that sometimes this problem in Windows 8 can be caused by video card drivers not being up to date. Do you all think updating my drivers maybe a good idea before trying the basic fix? I had assumed (bad idea) that because it was a new computer the drives would be up to date but from reading, I learned that is not always the case. Thanks again. Kirsten

An easy fix for some iTunes Match glitches

I found that some cover art would not display on my iPhone, even though the same album would show cover art on my iMac and on the MacMini, from which it was uploaded to iCloud. Other problems occurred, too weird to describe here.
Investigating the problem, I found that this was caused by some "stuck" sync attempts, trying to download songs from iCloud to the iPhone.
Fix:
1. disable iTunes Match on the iPhone.
2. Delete all music from the iPhone (right swipe, click delete)
3. some music will remain and can neither be downloaded nor deleted. These are the "stuck" items that cause the problems.
4. Attach iPhone to iTunes
5. Select your iPhone in iTunes, then click on "Music".
6. You will see the "stuck" songs, greyed out. Most of my problematic songs showed up twice or three times, with a non-moving sync indicator in the first column.
7. delete these songs (select all, right click, delete). I had to do this twice for some unknown reason. Force a sync and check again, to verify that they are indeed gone.
Once the songs are gone, disconnect the iPhone from your computer. Check the music application. It should display no songs. Now, go to settings and re-enable iTunes Match on the iPhone. Wait until the busy indicator disappears. This may take several minutes, depending on the size of your music library. I assume that this is the time it takes to download cover art and metadata, needed to display the list of albums.
What is displayed on your iPhone should now match what is in the cloud.
At this point, I am just guessing, but it seems that the iTunes Match code on the iPhone is not yet 100% bullet proof, and that it can sometimes become confused by a combination of intermittent network connectivity on the iPhone and updates to the iCloud library. Once a sync attempt gets stuck, the affected file seems to be locked and will never display the proper cover art, sometimes affecting the display of the whole album.
I will keep an eye on this. Probably the code will become more robust over time.

i got this problem since yesterday.
at first (a couple of days) --> i could delete all the songs by a simple sync due itunes....
--> clean music app
but now... everything stuck in itunes match sync
--> no fix, worked for me
i thought i had played around with the iphone to much, so i took the ipad...
and did a VERY CLEAN delete.... close music app --> disable itunes match --> wait for the spinner --> open the musik app --> wait for the spinner --> close music app --> usage --> delete all music --> itunes sync..
but same problem like on the iphone about 10 songs stuck in itunes match sync... not able to get rid of them.
on ipad and iphone! --> strange!
i tried also to delete all grey songs by (managing music and video manuelly)... after new sync i see the grey songs again.
i have also noticed that there is a sync problem when you are changing any "Metadata" - cover, ablum, genre... so you have to clean your music app - (fresh itunes match sync)
so i stuck
and im not able to sync any new data from itunes match.
where is the magic? Apple?

Easy fix for ATV2 not seeing all content

After battling this for hours (the first for an apple product and as a former Mac Genius extremely frustrating) I had iTunes Support reset all the authorizations on my account. I have reauthorized 3 out of 5 computers and all my media now shows up. I don't think it's enough to turn off and on home sharing or deauth the computer yourself, at least this is the only thing that worked for me. I am a little disappointed that after years of solving issues in under an hour I spent a whole day on this one.

I was having major problems as well - Loading Library forever. I had started with wifi, and changed to ethernet cable in the hopes of solving some slowness. I finally did a full reset on the appletv, restarted my mac and started fresh. Now it seems to load library for a short time and then everything is there again.
Only problem is that the slideshow stops in the middle. When I restart, if I scroll through the pics and "load" them, it seems to get through.

An easy fix for shortening your url in iWeb

so... after beating my head agasint the keyboard, i figured it out... it's very simple...
I'm assuming you have hosting, etc... so... after you publish your site to a folder on your comptuer, follow these simple steps:
1) inside the folder iWeb creates, there should be another folder with the name of your site (yoursite). This is the only one you need to upload (after we fix something)
2) in the folder (yoursite), there should be 2 .html files... one called index.html and one called (yoursite).html. Open both of these in an html editor.
3) copy everything in (yoursite).html and paste it over everything in the index.html file.
4) inside the index.html file, hit COMMAND F and search for title... it'll look like this <title>YOURSITE</title>... on that line, replace YOURSITE with whatever title you want to appear at the top of the browser window.
5) save the index.html file. delete the (yoursite).html file.
6) upload the files to the root directory on your server.

Point 1 is wrong.
iWeb does not create a folder with the sitename inside a folder.
iWeb creates a folder with a sitename. In it are the files and folder which ARE the site.
The CONTENT of that folder you need to copy to the server.
And instead of copy/paste the code from one file to the other, simply delete the index.html file and rename the other file. Point 3 and 5.
And make sure the other files are updated too. Otherwise you get a page not found error.
And there's no need the change the tile. Do it in iWeb itself.
But it's nice to see you waste your time to solve a problem that does not exist. And banging your head on the keyboard in the process.

Quick and easy fix for linux shell script in 1.2.1.32.13

Hello, right after installing sqldeveloper in my home directory and linking the script in my bin dir I found a small problem with the shell script for linux.
I downloaded the "Multiple platforms" zip file.
here is the fix:
change "dirname $0" to "readlink -f $0 | xargs dirname"
with this fix, linking to the shell script won't cause the script to use the bin dir instead of the real directory where sqldeveloper is installed.

This symptom occur because a 64-bit process that runs on a computer that is running an x64-based version of Windows cannot load the 32-bit .dll files that are required by some program features.
You may try the following work around:
You must use the 32-bit version of Windows Explorer. The 32-bit version of Windows Explorer is located in the %windir%\Syswow64 folder on the computer that is running an x64-based version of Windows.
To use the 32-bit version of Windows Explorer, follow these steps:
Click Start, click Run, type the following in the Open box, and then click OK:
Drive_Letter:\windows\syswow64\explorer.exe /separate
Note The placeholder Drive_Letter represents the drive where the x64-based version of Windows is installed.

1. Run Acrobat Reader. In Reader, click File > Open and navigate to the folder(s) containing your PDF file(s). If necessary, move the slider to show all your PDF files.

3. Open Windows Explorer and navigate to the folders(s) containing your PDF file(s).
4. Click Views and move the slider until you see PDF thumbnails.

Easy Fix For Bluetooth and 1.1.3

On iPhone:
Settings/General/Reset/Reset Network Settings
Then delete previous paring on both devices and re-pair.

Temporary fix. Tried that. No luck. As soon as the devices fall away from each other (distance) and then come back together the bluetooth problem continues.

Your iPhone got wet and is now malfunctioning, probably prior to ceasing to function altogether. You didn't fix it. Best cut your losses and replace it.
