Easy ? on Tif overlay

Thanks for looking in..
I am coming from AVID and trying to learn this CS6.  I wanted to resize my .tif file on track 2 with a movie track on track 1  I cannot find the resizer for resizing or repsotioning my Tif on my track. I right clicked (I'm on Win7 Pro BTW) the tif track and have a bunch of options I clicked through what I thought woudl be the obvious. Yet, the darn grab bars never appeared. Is there yet another hidden area I must find to finish the steps?
Must everything be complicated in this software. I watched 5 Tutorials which are more like interface tutorials with half information. Where are the "Real Tutorials?"  Like ones that take you from start to finish creating  a project that teaches tips and tricks. Such as creating a swipe with a Tif or Creating a patb for a Tif or Jpg to move around on a time line. The ones I find are like import a vector file from Illustrator but it only shows one type of file to do that with and does not go over any other type of files to emulate or do the same thing with. Really a frustrating peice of software. </rant

No it is not too late Thank you, Steven.  I will go watch. I have watched 12 videos today. I have done a couple of lessons like using AE and creating a text that starts at the bottom of the page and goes diagonally across. Although 2 of the steps were not cohenert on my end. Like after step 8 it states "hit the End key or botton" Do not recall which but I did not find either.
As for the information above looking for EFFECTS CONTROL WINDOW
I have my effects window open and all I see in the pane in the bottom left are choices like:
Presets
Audio Effects
Audio Transitions
Video Effects
Video Transitions
None of what Shooternz mentioned nor Ann Bens
After pecking around' I tried this path. Which I had to discover on my own....
I did use the Window Tab and select Effect Controls and then was asked to select a clip and THEN video effects came up . (Which in hindsight and NOW knowing where it is the path was typed backwards...Relevent if you know the software.
So if your path was Windows/Effects Control/ select clip then under Video effects select Position, scale, etc... THEN that is the way you should share with someone how to find something, especially if they are new at the software.
Not ungrateful for the help, rather trying to bring you back to Earth, on helping with a correct or specific path. I spent 4 hours reasearching what a few keystrokes and a correct path could have negated.
So for those of you looking for the answer to my question the path is
Windows Tab / Select Effects Control/ you will be prompted to select a track if you have not one already selected.
Under Video Effects in the Top Left Hand Box Under "Motion" via the 'triangle' There is where you will find conrol of your image.
Peace,

  • Who at Apple Can I complain to about FCP...

Just bought a FCP system (8 core intel Mac pro 10 Gig ram). It's amazing who uninformed the people at the Apple store are.
FCP is great but dang....it's render ****!!
Anyone have any suggestions as to a solution for making the every day edit easier?
An overlay graphic above a piece of video (animation codec) takes forever to render!
    Help....

An overlay graphic above a piece of video (animation codec) takes forever to render!
Anyone have any suggestions as to a solution for making the every day edit easier?
You might want to consider repurposing your elements according to their purpose/delivery format
for example, using animation codec is never recommended for production workflows. Instead you could use a proxy in its place for edit purposes then replace with the full res version for delivery (traditional offline/online workflow) ... or simply use an alternative high quality intermediate codec better suited to your production workflow. ProRes 422 HQ has quickly become a popular intermediate codec for FCS users but it doesn't support an alpha channel so that might rule it out for you. There are alternatives though, such as using a suitable Avid QT codec (downloadable from their site) or something like Bitjazz's Sheer codec or Digital Anarchy's Microcosm (a 64 bit lossless codec that supports an alpha channel and is soon to be a free release from from Red Giant who just acquired it).
Fixing simpler issues as well can help alleviate day to day render struggles, like ensuring your source and timeline codecs are matched (or failing that, are pre-conformed to a codec natively supported by FCP).
Re. making your complaints heard at Apple, you can submit your feedback at:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/finalcutpro.html
But do take care to be clear, concise and (I'd advise) polite. Well crafted feedback submitted from someone who can clearly demonstrate a professional understanding of modern production workflows is likely to carry more weight than a hastily written and angry rant.

  • Can't get Button Over Video button graphics to appear using Subtitle Clips

I have a video in a track in DVD SP 3. In S1 of the track I have, near the beginning, a Subtitle Clip about 2 secs. long with text which describes the scene. No problem. Near the end of the track I have another Subtitle Clip in S1 but this time, instead of showing text it shows a button graphic of two little arrows for Buttons Over Video (which when activated make the DVD go back or forward). The graphic is in the form of a standard tif Overlay file as used for Simple Overlays for a menu - a white background with the arrows in red with a black border, all as in the manual. The arrows have two Buttons created over them.
The two little arrows do not show in the Simulator nor in the Mac's DVD Player when the project is Built, nor do they appear in either of my two stand-alone DVD players when the project is burned, but they do show in DVS SP's Viewer window when I move the playhead over the Subtitle Clip in the track. The buttons themselves work. I know this because one is designated the default and when the two arrows should appear, pressing the (physical) remote on my DVD players causes the designed action, and this happens even if I press the remote's left arrow to select the left button and then press Enter. No relevant error messages during Building.
I have moved the Subtitle Clip (the one showing the arrows) down to S2 in case it is not possible to have two Subtitle Clips in S1, but no change. Also, I have added a large blob in the middle of the Subclip Overlay file to see whether the Overlay file got displaced, out of the image area, but the blob appears in its correct position.
    What can I do please?
G5/2.0 GHz   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   1 GB RAM, 150 GB HD, Sony DCR-HC96 mini DV, FCE HD 3.0 DVD SP 3

After vast effort I have concluded that a graphic in a Subtitle does not work, despite the manual and two other fat books saying it does (although, interestingly, all of them discuss it only very briefly). I have had to use text ("<-") to indicate my back button - not elegant.
Also, Subtitles do not work over stills - I have had to convert them to video.

I would like to use slideshow in lightroom to export my video as a full screen 1920x1080 video with text overlays.  I am using text overlay in lightroom as it reads from the metadata that is easy for me to input in the library screen.  When i export from lightroom slideshow and choose the 1920x1080 resolution the end product is a very small video in the middle of a black background.  i have double checked and do not have any borders turned on.  Another option would be to export from the library but lr mogrify does not seem to put text overlays on video either.  Any input would be welcome.

I dont understand anything you said in your post.
Do you have a specific question about video production?
The forums are for individual technical or creative issues that users have with video production. I am sur someone will be able to help you, but and to get a response it is best to ask a specific question.
Is this about a technical problem you have or something about setting up a web site? If its the latter this is the wrong forum.

  • Easy DMS 6.0 SP09 - can not view .tif  files

Which application do you use to view tiff-files ?
    Did you write a trace-file ?

  • Easy way to manipulate overlay image file?

Greetings, I'm currently trying to figure out how to simplify something for a client so they can make quick changes. Here's what I have:
    - Menu with a video in the background playing in a 30s loop.
    - Menu buttons with a specific "tile" I created in Photoshop, and placed into DVDSP as an overlay. This button "tile" (a vertical triangle) was placed in a specific position relative to the video in the background.
    - Menu buttons illuminate the triangle when you select a specific button properly.
Now, the client has changed the background video from a 4:3 video to a 16:9 video, and wants to move the text and buttons on the menu. In doing so, this means the button "tile" needs to shift many pixels down.
As far as I can tell, there's no way to simply grab the overlay image file and drag it down a few pixels, line it up by eye and be done with it. Do I have to go into Photoshop, manipulate the image, re-save it and reintroduce it to DVDSP?
Basically, is there an easy way to move or relocate the overlay image file within DVDSP? Thanks!

Overlays cannot be moved or relocated in DVD SP. Best bet is to do it in a Custom 16:9 preset in Photoshop

  • Problems with Overlay Layout - can anyone spot something wrong/missing?

Hi folks, I'm developing a tool that allows you to draw rectangles around objects on an image. The rectangles are then saved, and you can move between images. For some reason, though my rectangles are not drawing on the panel. I am using the Overlay Layout. Can anyone spot what I'm doing wrong? (The TopPanel canvas appears to be there, as it's taking input from the mouse - the problem is simply that the red rectangles are not drawing on the panel). Please help!!
So you know, there is a JFrame in another class which adds an instance of the ObjectMarker panel to it. It also provides buttons for using the next and previous Image methods.
Any other general advice is appreciated too.

Alright so I fixed it! I created a new class called BottomPanel extends JPanel, which I then gave the responsibility of drawing the image. I gave it an update method which took the details of the currentImage and displayed it on the screen.
If anybody's interested I also discovered/solved a problem with my mouseListener - I couldn't drag backwards. I fixed this by adding tests looking for negative widths and heights. I compensated accordingly by reseting the rectangle origin to e.getX(), e.getY() and by setting the to original_origin.x - e.getX() and original_origin.y - e.getY().
    No problem!

  • How can I incorporate an overlay with fields into a PDF file?

Once a week, I produce a timesheet. It's a PDF document generated by a third-party time-recording app, and it has room for hand-filling in signatures/dates/names, etc - 7 fields all told.
What I want to do is build a separate document containing an equivalent block of 7 PDF-fillable fields such that:
    I can overlay the PDF-fillable fields on the space for hand-filling fields on the timesheet;
I can send the combined PDF file to another person in order to collect their name and (ink) signature.
I can then fill in my own (ink) signature, etc.
I can do the same thing week in, week out with no fiddling of fields, etc.
I got tantalizingly close (I have Windows Acrobat X Pro). I built the PDF-fillable form as a separate PDF, and merged it into a sample timesheet as a Background (and I also tried using a Watermark). However:
    some of the seven PDF-fillable fields simply vanish;
    one of the remaining fields seems to have picked up a name and formatting from another deleted field (is there some kind of uncleared cache in play?);
all the remaining fields were marked as Read-Only.
    Update:
FWIW, I got it to work by reversing the files - i.e. by using the timesheet itself as the background.
When I add the Background (regardless of which is the main document), I get a series of warnings indicating that fields in the Background bearing the same name as those in the main document will get lost, but from what I can tell, fields in the same location as those on the main document also get lost.
When I use the template as the main document, things fall into place and the scheme works.
However, the situation seems like a fairly routine one that should be easier to solve. Ideally, I'd like to build a layer on top of the timesheet form and save that layer as an overlay.
    TIA
    Josh

Did you ever figure out how to overlay something on a PDF form? I've created buttons to allow a user to change out the background, but I want to have an image and possibly other elements on that.

  • Is there a Clone Stamp overlay facility in CS2?

Hi - I've got two versions of Photoshop: CS2 version 9, and Elements 9. I've been using Elements for a couple of years for tweaking and cropping photos but have become interested in the restoration and retouching. So I downloaded the (now, free) CS2 from the Adobe website. With its enhanced features, it can work magic but I notice that when using the clone stamp tool, unlike Elements, I don't see an overly within the clone circle, meaning that it's not as easy to match up edges etc before committing with a click. I can't find any reference to a clone stamp overlay option in CS2. Have I missed something? If not, I guess I'll switch between programs.
    Thanks

Thanks for this. I thought the difference was about 5 years but I take on board that clone stamp overlay didn't exist with CS2.
As for 'freeness' I downloaded CS2 from the Adobe website for no money, which satisfies my criteria :-)
Thanks again for taking the time to answer my question.

  • Short of dismantling and recreating a page how do i find out whats causing [Error: Invalid URL for Web Content Overlay]

    Hi,
i received an indesign file to include in a folio that had links to the creators desktop where they had the assets for the web content overlay. When i try to update the folio i get the error message:
    "Content generation error.
[Error: Invalid URL for Web Content Overlay]"
    Which is fair enough.
The problem is, i have gone through and changed all URLs that I can see, but there is one somewhere, that I just can't find.
Is there a way to get a list of all web content overlays in a particular file? otherwise i will need to recreate the whole page again, and it has some pretty complex interactions which i rather wouldn't do.
I also cannot ask the original doc creator to just change the links as i'm sure he'll have the same issues as me, at not being able to track down the erroneous link.
The problem I have with DPS is that its not very transparent. you'll have to click on everything, and into every group to see what actions are on it, which can be extremely time consuming and frustrating when complex interactions are included.
thanks in advance for any assistance

I’ve found watching the process helpful to narrow down the page.
Working off a duplicate of the file, delete one layer at a time until you figure out what layer the problem is on.
From there it’s a bit easier to narrow down.

  • How do you color tif images??

Yet, another issue with indesign.  Longtime PM user, I could bring in a tif, like a
logo, and select any color and poof, done.  Now the same tif, in indesign, and I'm colorizing THE DREADED
BOX, not the actual image?  I've tried deselecting, ungrouping, shift clicking, selecting the background, which I can't and the outline, which doesn't help.  There has to be an easy fix for this, I'm losing it!!!  What am I doing wrong?

There´s difference between selecting image with black or white arrow. If you select 1-bit image with black arrow, you can target color to container (meaning frame), then you fill transparent areas with color. And if you use white arrow to select image, you can target color to visible pixels (those which are originally black when you place image)

  • Any way to get numlock/numeric keyboard overlay in W530?

    Hi all,
Last week I got my new ThinkPad W530 as a replacement for my W500 that replaced my R60 that replaced my R51. One of the first things I noticed was the changes to the keyboard. I really like the feel of the keys, but I don't like the layout, I think the previous one was perfect :/
Anyway, I'm not here to bash. I'm giving the new layout a chance, and maybe I'll get used to it and not want to go back in some months, let's see. But before I can do that, there is something I absolutely need. I use some software that needs a numpad and the new W530 keyboard doesn't seem to have the numeric keyboard overlay that the older models had.
Is there anyway to get this or simulate it's behaviour? Anything, I don't care if it is a hidden Fn combination that will activate it, a third-party software to simulate it, a fan-made keyboard driver, or some fiddling with Windows options. But sure there MUST be some way, easy or difficult, to make they keyboard work as if it had NumLock and a numpad, right? I don't think I'm the only one needing this functionality...
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I have the odd feeling you can write your own Autohotkey script that toggles a simulated overlay with a double-tap of the right Ctrl key.
    EDIT: And here it is:
    ~RControl::
    if (A_PriorHotkey <> "~RControl" or A_TimeSincePriorHotkey > 200)
    KeyWait, RControl

  • Is there a way to overlay a soundcloud music player widget (flash or HTML5) ON TOP of a jpeg image?

I am designing my first webpage for a new site. It is very basic in function, where I am going to be embedding a bunch of soundcloud.com players of my music to my website. This part is fairly easy. I currently have Adobe Dreamweaver CS6.
Since I have ZERO webdesign experience, going the easy route is best. It was suggested to me by someone to create what I wanted my webpage to look like in photoshop (which I have lots of experience in). Essentially, I have a single image with lots of visual information on it, where I can then add "hotspots" if needed. So, I created my design, where there are specific areas ON TOP of the jpeg image where I want to overlay the soundcloud player. I am able to adjust the size, and format (HTML5 or Flash) of the player itself at soundcloud. I then have the proper code that needs to be put where I want it on top of my image.
Is there a simple piece of code, or a way in Dreamweaver to accomplish this in an easy way?
    Thanks in advance!

Here is the widget code for HTML5 for the first one:
    <iframe width="100%" height="166" scrolling="no" frameborder="no" src="https://w.soundcloud.com/player/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fapi.soundcloud.com%2Ftracks%2F63420632&c olor=c51c64&auto_play=false&show_artwork=false"></iframe>
    Flash if needed:

    Second one: (HTML5)
    <iframe width="100%" height="166" scrolling="no" frameborder="no" src="https://w.soundcloud.com/player/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fapi.soundcloud.com%2Ftracks%2F57922474&c olor=c51c64&auto_play=false&show_artwork=false"></iframe>

And finally, here is a link to the jpeg image:
http://www.mediafire.com/view/?z2bngmtiikmi9k9  (only 2mb files were permitted to be uploaded here directly)
You can probably see where I want the player to overlay...below the text and to the right of the artwork.  I will have the image centered on the screen.
    I greatly appreciate your help!
    Thanks again,
    David

  • Editing in Photoshop Elements 9 (tiff and tif)

Last week at the end I moved to Aperture. Now I've some problem when I edit with Photoshop Elements 9.
I've setted Aperture to transfer a 8 bit tiff to photoshop now Aperture tranfer a .tiff file to photoshop and when i save (not save as) photoshop save back a .tif file that obvisioly Aperture don't see..
There is a way in Aperture to set to export a .tif or in photoshop to save a .tiff; I know it is just a matter to remember to add an "f" before saving but it is so easy to forgot....

Only your camera can save as NEF. It's not even a file, really, a Raw is just the dump of the data from your camera sensor.
When you process (or edit) a Raw it has to be saved as something else - in this case a Jpeg.
You can choose tiff in the Preferences if you prefer.
But there is no way to edit a raw file and then send it, as a raw, to another editor on any system.
You can also process your Raw with a 3rd Party app like ACR or Photoshop. But iPhoto does not handle this gracefully and it's a bit of a kludge.
First off set your preferred app as an external editor in iPhoto:
You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.
Note that iPhoto sends a copy+ of the file to Photoshop, so when you save be sure to use the Save command, not Save As... If you use Save As then you're creating a new file and iPhoto has no way of knowing about this new file. iPhoto is preserving your original anyway.
Next: In the iPhoto Preferences -> Advanced, elect to use Raw with your External editor:
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
Now when you go to edit the Raw it will be sent to your external editor.
    Now for the kludge:
You cannot save a Raw. The work you do must be output to a new file, in a new format (jepg, tiff, whatever). However, as the External Editor is making this new file iPhoto has no knowledge of its existence. Therefore you *must save it to the desktop and then import it back to iPhoto as a new file*.
This means that you will have your Original Raw and the processed version in iPhoto but they will not be recognised as version and original. iPhoto will see them as two separate shots.
    Regards
    TD

  • Bridge doesn´t show preview of tif-images

    Hi,
I uses Bridge CS6 on a Mac with MacOS 10.9.2. Suddenly bridge doesn´t show previews of Tif-images. It´s also impossible to fill in any metadata. The program also says that the image isn´t tagged with any color profile. I don´t have these problems with jpegs, only with Tif-images. I even get previews on the RAW-images. Does anyone know what the problem can be?
    Ulf

I guess I have to try to reinstall the program.......
I'm 99,99 % sure that won't help solving your problem because to possible being effective you also should use the Adobe Clean tool to get rid of a lot of the hidden files that just stay put during a normal reinstall. But if you want to do something easier instead of reinstall, quit Bridge and go to the user library (by default hidden per OSX 7, use Finder, menu Go with option to reveal this library)
In the preferences folder is plist file for Bridge (com.adobe.bridge5.plist), drag this file to the trash. Then in same library go to the folder Caches / Adobe/ Bridge CS5 and inhere delete both plug in and folder called Cache. (this means recaching the previews and thumbs).
Then restart Bridge holding down option key and again choose 'reset prefs'. All previous deleted items will be replaced with new, fresh and empty ones and you have an almost like factory settings Bridge without the need of reinstall.
But I really suspect it comes down to the Tiff files so maybe also a reset of preferences in PS might be worth a try.
