Easy selection printing to tray 1 or 2

We have an Officejet Pro 8620 with extra paper tray. Tray 1 for blank paper, tray 2 for paper with business logo.
Now, when we want to print to tray 2, we reject tray 1 a little, so that after a few attempts the software switches to tray 2, and the printing starts.
It is possible, before printing, to change the setting in the software, so that printing to tray 2 is selected. But that is quite cumbersome.
We would an easy way to select to print to tray 1 or tray 2. For instance, as seen in other environments, so that we can choose to print to:
- HP Officejet Pro 8620 (tray 1) or
- HP Officejet Pro 8620 (tray 2)
These could be visible as seperate printers. How can we do this?
Changing the setting everytime is not a good option. Plus, we have other software packages that we want to configure so that they automatically print to the correct tray.
Thanks!

Hello @Sing020,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I would like to assist you today with adding two copies of your HP Officejet Pro 8620 e-All-in-One Printer to your Windows 7 computer to make printing to Tray 1 and Tray 2 an easier process for you. Can I please have you follow the steps below.
1. Click on your Start menu
2. Select Devices and Printers
3. In the Devices and Printers folder you should see your installed HP Officejet 8620 printer
Before proceeding, we need to determine how your printer is connected. If you have a wireless HP Officejet 8620 printer, on the front panel of your printer touch the Setup button.  Touch Network Setup. Select Wireless Settings. Touch View Wireless Details. Take note of the IP Address.
If you have  USB Cable connected printer please right click on the HP Officejet 8620 under the Devices and Printers folder and left click on Printer Properties. Click on the Ports tab. Look under the list of Ports for the port that is selected for your printer. There should be a check next to one of the USB ports. If you hover your mouse over the Port is should show you the full name (USB 0001, USB 0002, USB 0003, etc). Take note of the USB Port number.
4. Next, right click on the HP Officejet 8620 that currently shows installed on your computer. Left click on Printing Preferences.
5. Under the Paper/Quality tab please select the Paper Tray (Tray 1)  and Paper Size.
6. Click Apply and OK
7. Right click on the HP Officejet 8620 one final time and left click on Printing Preferences. Under the General tab you should be able to add (Tray 1) to the end of your printer name.
8. Click Apply and OK to save the changes.
9. Now we need to add in the second Copy of your printer. Please close Devices and Printers for a moment.
10. Click on your Start menu
11. In the 'search programs and files' box located right above Start type %temp% and hit enter on your keyboard
12. When the Temp folder opens, select Ctrl + A at the same time on your keyboard. Everything in this folder will now highlight.
13. Select the 'delete' button on your keyboard. The Temp folder contains temporary internet files. No actual files or folders on your computer will be affected by deleting the Temp files. Should a Temp file still be used than you will automatically get the pop up to 'skip' that item.
14. Close the Temp folder once it is emptied
15. Right click the Recycling Bin on your desktop and select Empty Recycling Bin
16. Click here to download the Officejet 8620 driver
17. Once the download is complete an extraction will occur and then an install window may open. If an install window opens, please close it.
18. Click on your Start menu
19. In the 'search programs and files' box type %temp% and hit enter
20. When the Temp folder opens locate the 7z folder. Click on the 7z folder once to open it
21. At the top of the page you will see the file path. It should show something like: Local Disk C - Users - AppData - Local - Temp- 7z... Left click on the right hand side of this file path bar. Everything will now highlight in the file path. Right click on the highlighted file path and Copy it.
22. Close the Temp folder
23. Click on your Start menu
24. Click Devices and Printers
25. Click Add a Printer at the top
26. Click Add a Local Printer and hit Next
27. Click Use an Existing Port. Click the dropdown and choose the exact same port that your current HP Officejet 8620 is installed on. Hit next.
28. If you're brought to a list of Manufacturers and Printers, click Have Disk on the bottom right. Right click on the file path bar in the 'Install from Disk' window and 'paste' in the file path we previously copied
29. Hit next to complete the adding process
30. Once you're brought back to the normal Devices and Printers window you should see two copies of your HP Officejet installed. If you only see one copy, your computer may have grouped them under the same icon. Right click on the HP Officejet you see and there should now be arrows next to all the options (Printing Preferences, Printing Properties, etc). If you click on the arrows you'll see two copies of your printer.
31. Right click on the HP Officejet 8620 that we're going to configure for Tray 2
32. Left click on Printing Preferences
33. Click on the Paper/Quality tab
34. Choose Paper Tray as Tray 2, and set the Paper Size
35. Click Apply and OK
36. You can right click on your HP Officejet one more time and select Printer Properties.
37. Rename this copy to HP Officejet 8620 (Tray 2)
38. Click Apply and OK
Now when you try to print, when you select File and Print you will see a Tray 1 and a Tray 2 copy of your HP Officejet. Just choose the copy that matches the Tray you want to print from.
Please let me know if the steps I've provided resolve your issue. It may seem like there is a lot of steps, but it really is an easy process. I just wanted to give you as much detail as possible for any scenarios that may arise. Good luck!

  • My C410 is selecting the wrong tray to print my image

I am trying to get a 5x7 image to print but the printer keeps selecting the photo tray which holds only 4x6 paper.  I have had this problem in the past with other print jobs.  I am using a Mac with os x Yosemite 10.10.1.  I have installed the updates available through the Apple update for HP.  I have selected the 5x7 paper size.  Not sure where to go from here.  Should be such an easy thing to do.

I worked through your procedure.  My printer still works the same way.  I think it may be that the 5x7 paper can be loaded into the photo tray so it is selecting that tray automatically.  I wanted to print the 5x7 picture on larger 8.5 x 11 paper so maybe I have to show it on my screen that way.  I thought I should be able to select the tray that it feeds from but apparently that is not an option with this printer.  Thanks for your assistance however.

  • How do I select main input tray to print photo over ePrint and not photo tray?

when I send a picture from my Iphone the printer always wants to take paper from the photo tray ,despite that it's set up to take paper from the main tray.

    Hey AndreBielser!
Unfortunately there isn't a way to select the paper tray through ePrint at this time. Photos will always try to print to the photo tray. The only way I have seen that you can get around this is by including the photo in the body of the message instead of as an attachment. I will definitely pass on the information that this is something you are looking for as a feature of ePrint though!
    Hope this helps!

  • Selecting Epson RX700 printer rear tray

When I had my Epson RX700 printer (all-in-one) connected to a Windows PC, I could select either front or rear paper trays for printing. With Mountain Lion, I have not been able to find any way to select a tray and have to accept a default depending on the type of paper being used and the print quality (standard plain paper and normal print draws from the front tray, photo paper and photo-quality print draws from the rear tray). This is OK until I need to print to stiff card using normal print quality - then the paper feed in the front fails and I get the "paper out" message. I can use the rear tray but only by selecting photo paper and photo-quality printing, which is both very slow and uses a vast amount of ink. Does anyone know of a way to select the rear tray but retaining the plain paper and normal print attributes?

You need to read the user manual that came w/the printer.  Some things will will on a Windows comp but not on a Mac or a particular OS version.  If the user manual is of no help, call Epson and/or visit their troubleshooting website.
I have an Epson printer that can automatically print the front & back of paper.  However, this does not work in ML. Not compatible *yet.*

  • HP LaserJet P2015 - Auto papersize selection with 3rd tray installed?

    Hi,
Our office just bought an HP LaserJet P2015, and installed a third paper tray that we had to order from HP. In the pref's pane for the printer, I have checked the "Tray 3" check box. We have legal size paper in tray 3, and letter size in tray 2 (the built in tray).
No matter whether the page setup is set to letter or legal, every document prints from tray 3 on legal size paper. Is there a way to make the printer auto-select the correct paper size?
    Thank you,
    Tom

I initially called HP tech support on this issue, and was told that HP's printer drivers for Mac did not support this feature (even though the hardware was capable of it). Turns out that was BS (and the tech support guy I talked to clearly knew very little about it). HP's network printers have a built-in web server. You log-in by going by going to the IP address using Safari or your preferred browser. You can turn on and set up these options, and more, via the web-server. Easy as pie, once you know what to do.

  • FEATURE REQUEST: 'Select Printer' option when printing envelopes or labels

I have a Samsung laserjet printer that will not print labels properly with the default paper type setting...the toner smears. So I have created a second printer object for the Samsung device with 'Labels' selected as the default paper type and I've named
it 'Samsung Labels'. I can select it as the printer in Word 2010 and it will print labels correctly for that session. I've read the discussion about Word 2010 only remembering the printer preferences during the current session. That is unfortunate, but I consider
this to be even worse: when you click the 'Print' button after creating your label or envelope, Word just prints to the default printer without displaying the print control panel. This prevents me from selecting the printer object that I've created to print
labels correctly with my Samsung. I use a number of different printers and I don't want to necessarily use my default printer for Word. I want to be able to select a different default printer for Word and also have the option to select a different printer
for a particular print task in Word...like labels. I don't want to have to go into Word's print options every time I want to print a label and make sure that everything is set correctly. It makes no sense that I can't select a printer object when I hit the
print button. There are a million 'features' built into Office that I would never think of using, but one that seems so obvious is missing. Arg!
I doubt that I'll hear back from someone with a simple work around for this, but I'd love it if I did.
    Thanks in advance,
    Wayne
Wayne S. CompTIA A+ CompTIA Network+ Microsoft MCP

I would like to second Wayne's suggestion but I am concerned with printing envelopes, not labels. I have been a PC user (and even an instructor) since the days of VisiCalc, Lotus 1-2-3, and the first Microsoft products. It has never ceased to amaze me
that, as mentioned by Wayne, the most fundamental needs are overlooked. It wastes a lot of my time to constantly have to change the printer just to print an envelope or to print something on letterhead. We have a lot of documents that include one letter on
letterhead followed or preceded by several pages that need to print on plain paper. I think I should be able to tell Word that page X is letterhead, and the others default to the plain paper tray or printer. I also should be able to tell the print envelopes
feature that envelopes are on printer X or tray X. Then every time I need to print such a document, I just click print for the doc and envelope print for the envelope (I keep an icon for this in my toolbar). We use a legal software package in our office that
lets you specify the appropriate printer and tray for reports, general checks, trust checks, labels, receipts, deposit slips, bills and pre-bills! Super easy and convenient. Word processing should be SMART so we don't have to be bothered with these very mundane
and never-ending printer issues!! Please, please, take this to the top! Please send your developers to actual real-world users and find out our needs!!!

  • HP 2100TN - Can't print from Tray 3

I have a Laserjet HP 2100TN. I have it configured with a Tray 3 but it refuses to print to Tray 3. It prints from Tray 2. If I select Tray 1 it works fine (prints from tray 1). This used to work under 10.4.x but has been broken in 10.5.x. I tried reinstalling (Archive and Install) to no avail. I was using the default Laserjet 2100 series driver. I tried Gutenprint version and it worked except I had to select Tray 4 for it to print from Tray 3. Gutenprint, however, only allows me to print up to 600x600 dpi whereas the default Laserjet 2100 series allows me to print 1200x1200 dpi.
I also tried installing the driver from HP and it did not work either.
    Any help would be appreciated.

I did as benshaine posted in his thread here: https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/789780 I installed Firefox 3.5.10 to my desktop, printed from 3.5.10 and then went back into 3.6.x and I could print.

  • HP Laserjet P4014dn won't auto print from tray 1

HP Laserjet P4014dn stopped auto printing from tray 1. Can't manually print from there either. Now it always pulls from tray 2 (bottom tray) even if paper is loaded in tray 1. Auto print is selected in software setting. SN [Personal Information Removed] CB512A. Help!

There may be a couple of reasons why the printer will not auto print from Tray 1.
The following references the User Guide for the printer which you can obtain from here:
    http://bizsupport1.austin.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c01295101/c01295101.pdf
Page 18 of the User Guide has the section "Paper Handling Menu".
This section defines the menu items that can be used to set Size and Type for Tray 1.
Page 85 of the User Guide has the start of the Configure Trays Section.
In this section there are two notes.  If Tray 1 is set to ANY SIZE and ANY TYPE, the printer will pull from that tray whenever media is loaded in that Tray.  If Tray 1 is set to a specific size, it will act like a Cassette.  This means that it will follow the paper handling model of Trays 2, 3, etc..
Example:  Tray 1 is set to Letter, Tray 2 is set to Letter.  When a job is sent from the PC requesting Letter and the Sources is Auto, the printer FW will look for the highest number tray that has letter installed and pull from that tray.  Thus, Tray 2 will always be used unless Tray 2 doesn't have paper.
Page 86 has the section "Configure a tray by using the Paper Handling menu".
Follow the steps in this section to validate that Tray 1 is set to ANY SIZE and ANY TYPE.  If not set to ANY SIZE, ANY TYPE then change the setting to be ANY SIZE and ANY TYPE.  You may have to scroll through the list of sizes and types to find what you are looking for.
Once possibility is that the printer is not detecting that paper is loaded in Tray 1.  One method to verify this is to remove all paper from Tray 2 and lower trays if there are more than just Tray 2 installed. This will force the printer to pull paper from Tray 1 if paper is present.  If paper is present and the Tray 1 menu items are set to ANY SIZE and ANY TYPE and the printer prompts for you to load Tray 1 with paper, it is possible that the printer is not detecting that paper is in the tray.
In this case, I would recommend you contact HP Support as the media presence sensor may no longer be working properly.

  • HP Laserjet 2300n will only print to tray 1

we have a laserjet 2300n and it suddenly will not print to any other tray except tray 1.   Tray 2 and Tray 3 have paper and Tray 1 is closed.   The paper preference is that only legal size paper is used in Tray1 and the remaining trays use letter size.

Mowaffaq, you may want to determine whether you are making those changes in the master printing preferences (versus the adjusting the session printing preferences from within your application).
Click "Start", click "Printers and Faxes" (or "Devices and Printers"), right-click your printer, and select "Printing Preferences". On the "Paper/Quality" tab, you should be able to specify A4 as your default paper for all future print jobs.
    Hope that helps.

  • Easy Photo Print does not see Aperture files

I have a Canon MP640 printer, which gives me really poor results when used with Aperture (3.1.3) so I have been using the print software that came with my printer (Easy photo print EX).  The problem with Easy PhotoPrint, is that this software does not see my Aperture files, even though I have turned on the “View in finder” feature in Aperture.  Can anyone  tell me how to configure my system, so that Easy PrintPhoto will see my files, without having to export every time I want to print

Ahh ok, that function File->Show In Finder shows the current selection in the finder if it is a referenced image. That's all it does, it doesn't cause any permanent changes to any settings in Aperture or the Finder. Why you couldn't see your referenced files in the finder before clicking this and now you can is a mystery and a coincidence and will do nothing to enable other programs from accessing the images in the library.
As for turning off color management when you print from Aperture, in the print dialog under the Rendering section
when you open the Color Profile you can select  Printer Managed.
Once you set it to Printer Managed you'll see the warning change from Turn off in Printer to Turn on in Printer
Might be worth a shot if you haven't try it yet.

  • Photoshop CS5 - Compatibility with "Canon Easy Photo Print Pro"

    Hi,
I have just downloaded and installed  the trial version of Photoshop CS5, only to discover that in the  Automate option  (Under Files), Canon's Easy PhotoPrint Pro is no longer  listed.
Canon have advised that it is not their problem.
I  found that with Photoshop CS3, that this method of printing, provided most  accurate colours,
I would be interested in other subscribers, who have CS5 and who print with  the Canon Pixma Pro 9000,
    (1) Have you found a method of using Canon Easy Photo Print Pro, and if not
    (2) What settings do you find give the best results from your printer -  What options do you select in the print dialogue box, etc.
    Brian

    Hi,
Thanks for this information - Canon came back to me with a similar responce.
Pending a resolution, which allows something similar to  Canon's Easy PhotoPrint Pro to be installed as an "Add-in" to Photoshop CS5, I plan to allow Photoshop to manage colours.
This requires you to disable the printer from managing colours.
For those who have a similar problem and are not sure, how to disable Colour Management in the Pixma Pro 9000, the following is a quote from Canon:
Thank you for contacting Canon Support. Your reference/ticket number is 1031274.
We are sorry to hear about the problems you are having with your Canon Pro9000.
Please go to the 'Printing Preferences' and then select the 'Main' tab.
Here you will see a 'Colour / Intensity' option, make sure this is set
to 'Manual'. The 'Set' button will now appear active, press this button
and then go to the 'Matching' tab. Once here make sure 'Colour Correction'
is set to 'None'. This will deactivate the colour management completely.

We have an officejet pro 8600 with a second tray installed. Plain paper in the second tray which is on default on actual printer. Headed paper in tray one which is locked on printer.

  • Automatic selection of paper tray

I have my printer set up to automatically  select the tray with paper, if one tray is empty. It does not work.  In the settings on the printer, I have Tray 1 as default, and no lock on.  In the printer settings in Windows, it says that the second tray is installed and will auto select the tray.  I have also tried Tray 2 as default.  If the default tray is empty, and the other tray has paper, it will not auto select and use tray with the paper.
