Easy Setup - Format used for importing MPEG-4 clip

I am trying to import a movie to FCE and wonder which format should be set in the Easy Setup. Thx
Used MPEG Streamclip to check the info:
Video Tracks:
Generic MPEG-4, 640 × 480, 29.97 fps, 997 kbps
Audio Tracks:
MPEG Layer-3 Audio stereo, 48 kHz, 64 kbps
Used QuickTime Player Inspecter to check the info:
DivX 6.0, 640x480, Unknown
MPEG Layer3, Stereo, 48.000 kHz

You'd better first convert the movie (using MPEG Streamclip you already have) to the standard NTSC format: open your file in MPEG Streamclip, then Export to QuickTime (cmd-E - NOT Export to DV!) with Compression: Apple DV-DVCPRO/NTSC, Quality: 100%, fps: 29,97, Audio: uncompressed, Stereo, 48 KHz.
Then in FCE select the DV-NTSC Easy Setup before creating the sequence you'll use for editing.
Finally import the converted .mov file into FCE and drag it into the new sequence in the timeline.
That should do it, and the resulting .mov will not require video nor audio rendering.

  • Editing 16:9 mp4 files from .mod ....what easy setup to use?

Hi everybody....I am trying to get started on an edit of some 16:9 mp4 files that I created from .mod files using MPEG Streamclip. I can now import the files into FCP and chose DV NTSC Anamorphic as the easy setup, and am having two problems for starters:
    1. The canvas window is showing me the edit as a 4:3 letterbox
    2. When I try to render clips, I get the message: "Render Error: Insufficient Disk space. Free up space with render manager and retry?" ....but even if I try to gain space by using that manager there is nothing in the list to remove anyway.... and so I am unable to render clips.
    Any suggestions?

#1 - FCP doesn't edit mp4 files. That is not an editing codec. Convert to DV/NTSC using MPEG STREAMCLIP.
#2 - if you drop a clip into the timeline and have to render, that is a BIG CLUE that something is wrong. You should never have to render just a base clip if everything is setup right. That means converting the footage to DV/NTSC, and using the same settings in FCP.
#3 - Where is your media stored? And what type of SCRATCH DISK do you have? do no use your system drive to store footage or render to.

  • Which Easy Setup when using stills only?

    Hi,
I'm just wondering if anyone knows which Easy Setup preset option I should choose if I'm not using video at all, but just jpeg images to create a movie. I'm outputting for DVD to show on a regular (4:3) television.
    Thanks,

Depending on your region: DV-NTSC or DV-PAL...

  • Which Easy setup to use?

I just upgraded to FCP 5.1.2 and a new HDV video camera (Sony HDR-HC3) and have just reformatted and installed the Final Cut Studio suite and Shake. Now when entering the setup for FCP--what Easy Setup would be best? HDV 1080i (50,60, 24, 25)?
    Thanks.

  • Is there a size limit on importing Mpeg 4 clips?

This is so strange as I have never had this problem before.I am trying to import a Mpeg 4 clip and all I get is " file error, unkown file". The clip is 45 minutes and other shorter clips are able to import.
Is there a max on the length of clip I can import, not capture but rather import?
    FCP 4   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

I found DigitalMedia Converter years ago. I liked it so much, that I bought a copy for each of my computers (rather than just have one running it and using the LAN to move files about). I have an upgrade discount certificate, but have not yet upgraded my copies.
The things that I like about it are that it's quick, has "batch conversion" and that it does NOT install any CODEC's, but it uses all that I have properly installed. It works 99% of the time, just perfectly.
The only issue that I have ever encountered are with Duration and PrPro. Sometimes, the DV-AVI Type II's will Import into PrPro, but their Duration will not be correct - maybe 01:40:00 out of a 30:00:00 real Duration. My workaround for this behavior is to just Import the problem file into PrE 4 (in my case), and immediately do an Export/Share to DV-AVI Type II. I know, that's the same exact format/CODEC, but now, PrPro sees the correct Duration perfectly. Why? I have no clue. I have tried everything that I could to find out the differences, to no avail. The files show exactly the same in G-Spot and also spec out as identical in DupeFile Finder. Still, there has to be some difference, and PrPro picks up on that, and does not recognize the correct Duration. PrE 4 always has. This is extremely odd, as I can batch convert 4 parts of a file with the same exact CODEC, say DivX, and 3 of the 4 will have the correct Duration in PrPro - 1 will not, until I use PrE to "correct" things. Some day, I will find out the "why," but until then, I have an iron-clad workaround - PrE!
Hope that this helps. Also, many sing the praises of some freeware converters, like Prism, but I have never tried them. I'd looked a dozen others, those many years ago, and then found DMC and never looked further.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Imported MPEG-4 clips to iMovie08 arrive without audio

I've recently shot a number of video clips with my Sony Cyber-shot digital camera and imported the stills and video clips to iPhoto. I've just upgraded to iLive08 and have attempted to import the MPEG-4 clips from iPhoto into iMovie. The clips arrive in iMovie without audio. When I open the clips in iPhoto, the audio is working. When I open them in iMovie, their is no audio. How do I get MPEG-4 clips from iPhoto, into an iMovie project with both video and audio?

Can you give me a few tips about using this kind of software?
iSquint is probably the easiest to use of those mentioned but is limited to MPEG4/AAC (default) or H.264/AAC output. Both are compatible with iMovie '08. If you have several files to convert, simply drop them to "Batch" window and press start to begin conversion to MPEG4/AAC files. This codec is very fast but requires 2.0-2.5 times the data rate of a H.264/AAC file for the same level of quaity. Use the MPEG4/AAC option if conversion speed is more important than creating smaller files. Checking the H.264 box switches to the H.264/AAC mode. Use the "Optimize for TV" option for VGA (640x480) files for iMovie '08 SD editing.
When you become more accustomed to the application you may wish to try customizing your settings using the "Advanced" window option. Increasing the video data rate may improve the video quality. (Actually, what you are doing here is preventing the loss of addition detail during conversions.) You may also wish to adjust the "Quality" Factor slider along with increases in the video data rate. It is probably best to leave the audio settings in their default setting.

  • Best target format to use for importing less-than-cinema-quality video?

I shot 4.5 hours of conference video on an AVCHD consumer camera. The original footage uses about 14.5 GB on the camera's SD card. The video was shot at 1440 x 1080, 16 x 9.
When I do a log and transfer, the files balloon to 250 GB and are saved as Apple ProRes 422 by default.
Since this is just conference footage, it doesn't to have the highest quality. I have no need for Apple ProRes 422.
If possible, here's what I'd like to do:
    1) import it using a format that gives me at least the same quality as the original video
    2) keep the file size as close as possible to the original file size
    3) Keeps the original 1440 x 1080 size.
    4) Is a format that can still be edited in the Final Cut 7 timeline.
    5) Saves me the hassle of having to run Compressor on the huge 250GB files.

    Thanks.
I tried LT setting. It created files about 30% smaller than those created with the normal ProRes setting. So instead of 250 GB, I have 160 GB files. Better, but I was hoping more like 20 GB files.
I'm going to try giving iMovie a shot and see what kind of file it generates.
What I'm mostly interested in doing is providing an archival copy of the full video for historical purposes. Something that could fit on a couple of DVDs or placed on a hard drive or cloud storage system without eating up huge amounts of space. Also, something a historian could reasonably be expected to open 20 years from and have it still look reasonably good on his/her 6000 x 4000 monitor.

  • What is the best image format to use for importing images into a Pages document?

Image quality is good in photoshop. I am currenlty saving as .tiff at 300 dpi but when I import the image in the resolution diminishes radically.

I like to use .png or .pdf.

  • Changed Easy Setup Format...help!

Hi all. I figured out that I needed to change the set-up in FCE from DV to HD, since our video was shot with HD cameras. My sample already looks a billion times better when compressed.
HOWEVER, I copied and pasted the sequence over from the old to the new, hoping I wouldn't have more work to do. Sad because everything appears small since I assume FCE formatted everything. I did re-import all the files into the new HD sequence, hoping it would re-link and become 1920 x 1080 again.
Question: does anyone know if there is a way to save me the trouble of re-editing the entire project again? I did select a file in the timeline, select ITEM PROPERTIES and was hoping that would be the way to do this. I can see both options but can't select it.
Any help would be eternally appreciated!!! Thanks much in advance. Jim

Tom, that did it! Thanks so much for your advice! It was 100% spot on and I just finished the video work in the new, appropriate set-up. I really and truly appreciate that you took the time to share your knowledge and help me out. You saved the day (and week!)

  • STRUSTSS02 - No file format option for import

    Hi Experts,
I am trying to import portal certificate into ECC 6.0 EHP7 system for SSO set up.
But I dont see the file format option ( Binary and Base) in STRUSTSS02 and If I import without it I am getting an error "cannot analyze certificate"
    what could be the reason.
    Thanks in advance

Ok, have you tried doing automatically with SSO wizard.
open your portal url and add sso at end.
    http://<host>:<port>/sso2
And then add your ecc system by providing user/pass.
    best regards

    Hi Colins,
Thanks for your suggestion to create a sample on the APEX. I will do that and will post the problem in the FORUM.
Normally I add my name at the end of each conversation in the forum. I forgot to add one in this thread.

  • Correct Format Settings for Import

I'm trying to figure out the correct settings for exporting a project from Avid Adrenaline to then import for iDVD at the best quality.
I've tried QT movie. It looks fine. Then I import it into iMovie to create chapters then to iDVD. The finished product has some issues playing back movement... most noticed in lip movement. Could iMovie be causing this problem?
    Thanks,
