Easy Setup to Import YouTube files

Hi--
I'm new to FCE4, having been studying Weynand's "FCE4: Movie Making for Everyone". In trying to import material to practice on (I'm not capturing from a camera), I'm running into conversion problems making sample subclips and trying to play them in the timeline. Is there a standard setting I should be using in Easy Setup? Or do I have to use the utility MPEG Streamclip that I've heard about? And are there any tips and tricks I should know about that?
Thanks in advance. I hope, since I'm a newbie, that I'm not bringing up something that's been done to death. I went back several months and didn't find anything super-relevant. Much obliged.

John

Thank you for your response, Ian. I know that you are correct about YouTube downloads not being an ideal way to learn FCE4. But I am trying to create soundtracks (with original music, and perhaps dialogue and sfx) for pre-existing films, many of them silent, or replacing existing soundtracks. That would involve editing YouTube "footage." I don't shoot video myself.
So I'm assuming that Streamclip can output H.264 directly to the Apple Intermediate Codec? Also, is Streamclip "safe" to use? I am a little jumpy on the subject because my iMac got so completely corrupted last year that I had to start over, at great expense. But I do see that there are tutorials from a couple years ago right on this forum, so I probably don't have to worry, right??
(I'm such a wuss...)
Thanks so much, Ian!

John

  • Best "Easy Setup" for AVCHD .mts files

I'm on a MacBook Pro in 10.5.8 with FCP 7, all footage is shot by a Canon HF S100 at 1920x1080 60i. Is there a best way to set up the Easy Setup for the AVCHD files?
    I currently have it as:
    Format: (all)
    Rate: (all rates)
    Use: Custom Setup
    Sequence Preset: HDV 1080i60
Capture Preset: HDV Apple ProRes 422
    Device Control: non-controllable device
    Video Playback: none
    Audio Playback: Default.
Is there a better way to do it than this?
    Thanks,
    Dave

    Yup,
It costs but it's supposed to be very worth it on saved time and trouble.
    http://www.clipwrap.com
    From the website:
    rewraps - doesn't transcode
ClipWrap rewraps the video samples from your existing m2t, mts, m2ts files without re-encoding them. This means blazingly fast convert speeds and no image degradation.
    Transcodes too!
Need your files in ProRes, AIC, DNxHD or DVCProHD? ClipWrap can seamlessly convert your files. Don't worry about frame size changes, gamma shifts, or any of the other problems resulting from mismatched settings - ClipWrap chooses all those based on the source file's format.
    Automatic format detection
ClipWrap speaks your camera's language so you don't have to. It automatically parses the file's format and chooses the proper output format, so there's no hassle trying to determine the proper settings (frame rate, image size, gamma levels, etc).
    Full timecode support
Timecode is recreated in the new QuickTime movie, so you can recapture from tape later if necessary.
    Supports HDV and AVCHD formats
Now you're not limited to specific HDV or AVCHD cameras, you can rest assured your files will be compatible with FCP when it comes time to edit.

  • How to import MTS files from Canon Vixia HF M40 to Mac for editing?

I recently bought a Canon Vixia HF M40 and I have been able to import the MTS video files to iMovie, but now that I want to edit in Adobe Premiere, I am at a loss. Can someone tell me an easy way to import these files to either my computer or into the program itself for editing. It is entirely too time consuming to import into iMovie and convert every single file to quicktime only to import into Premiere and export yet again (not to mention the quality loss). Thank you for any help you can give me.

  • How do I import audio files from itunes to my project?

I know this could be very easy, I've imported music files from disc to projects before, but they keep going off line. So I want to find out an easier/better process to import music files from itunes into my FCP projects.

#5 Imported music from CD or iTunes
    Shane's Stock Answer #5:
To get music into FCP, it needs to be an AIFF file at 48khz, 16 bit stereo. So if you want a song from a CD, you go into the iTunes Preferences and set this up under the IMPORTING tab:
File > preferences > importing > import using - AIFF encoder > Setting - Custom
    Sample Rate - 48.000 kHz
    Sample size - 16 bit
    Channels - Stereo
If you have an mp3 that you want to use, then you can convert it thru iTunes as well.
If the piece of music you want to use is something you purchased thru iTunes, I'm afraid I can't help you there. There are copywrite issues that prevent files from being converted into the format that FCP can recognize.

  • Simple Way To Import REX2 Files

    Hi.
I import rex files by clicking on edit in the exs24 and going to instrument>recycle convert>extrack MIDI region and make new instrument.
When it does this it makes a midi file and also creates a new instrument in the middle of my file directory in my sampler instruments. Is there a way to control where the rex file is saved to the sampler instruments folder and is there an easier way to import rex files?
    Thanks.....

In 7.2.3 you can also just drag them into the loop browser or directly onto a track from the finder.
You can also do a batch conversion of REX to Apple Loops. It's in the "What's new in 7.2" PDF:
To convert multiple ReCycle files into Apple Loops:
1 Select the desired ReCycle files in the Project Manager.
2 Choose Functions > Convert selected REX files to Apple Loops.
3 In the ensuing file selector box, select a location for the converted files.
The ReCycle files are converted to Apple Loops (the slice points are converted to transient positions) and copied to the chosen location.
They won't have the metadata so they won't appear in a search until you manually add the information about what kind of loops they are using the Apple Loops Utility.
You don't have the flexibility of importing them to the EXS because there won't be a midi file, but they will work, and work quickly this way.

  • Can you import gift file format as pretest questions?

I am trying to take a bank of questions that I have in gift format and get them into cp8 on windows.
It's easy enough to import the file but they all come in as "graded" questions, and half of them are meant for a pretest.
I can go to each one and switch to a "survey" type after importing, but the option for "pretest" is grayed out.
    Anyone know of a workaround?
Is cp8 just not able to import gift formatted questions for pre-tests?

Not possible AFAIK. You can create your own pretest slides (the default pretest has a lot of strict design rules like being all together at the beginning, all navigation is eliminated etc), by not adding the score of those pretest slides to the Total score. It is perfectly possible to calculate the result of the pretest, showing it, and decide based on that result.

  • Missing Easy Setup File 1080i50

    Hi guys
Just upgraded to Sony HDV camera (HVR-A1E) PAL (UK). Pop into FCP5.x easy setup menu for capture and only settings are for 1080i60. Where is the 1080i50 gone? Cannot capture more than a few seconds of HD before dropped frame rate window pops up. Can capture HDV in iMovie, but when you try to import into FCP it gets upset! Using iMacG5 2GHz with 1Gb RAM.
Any thoughts, or anyone who can put me in touch with the missing file or instructions on how to set it all up manually would be GREAT!
    Cheers
    Paul

Just gives me a new list to choose from when I start program. The list contains only one version of HDV which is the 1080i60! So that didn't help. Any other ideas!
    Cheers

  • Easy Setup - Format used for importing MPEG-4 clip

I am trying to import a movie to FCE and wonder which format should be set in the Easy Setup. Thx
Used MPEG Streamclip to check the info:
    Video Tracks:
    Generic MPEG-4, 640 × 480, 29.97 fps, 997 kbps
    Audio Tracks:
MPEG Layer-3 Audio stereo, 48 kHz, 64 kbps
Used QuickTime Player Inspecter to check the info:
    DivX 6.0, 640x480, Unknown
    MPEG Layer3, Stereo, 48.000 kHz

You'd better first convert the movie (using MPEG Streamclip you already have) to the standard NTSC format: open your file in MPEG Streamclip, then Export to QuickTime (cmd-E - NOT Export to DV!) with Compression: Apple DV-DVCPRO/NTSC, Quality: 100%, fps: 29,97, Audio: uncompressed, Stereo, 48 KHz.
Then in FCE select the DV-NTSC Easy Setup before creating the sequence you'll use for editing.
Finally import the converted .mov file into FCE and drag it into the new sequence in the timeline.
That should do it, and the resulting .mov will not require video nor audio rendering.

  • Editing 16:9 mp4 files from .mod ....what easy setup to use?

Hi everybody....I am trying to get started on an edit of some 16:9 mp4 files that I created from .mod files using MPEG Streamclip. I can now import the files into FCP and chose DV NTSC Anamorphic as the easy setup, and am having two problems for starters:
    1. The canvas window is showing me the edit as a 4:3 letterbox
    2. When I try to render clips, I get the message: "Render Error: Insufficient Disk space. Free up space with render manager and retry?" ....but even if I try to gain space by using that manager there is nothing in the list to remove anyway.... and so I am unable to render clips.
    Any suggestions?

#1 - FCP doesn't edit mp4 files. That is not an editing codec. Convert to DV/NTSC using MPEG STREAMCLIP.
#2 - if you drop a clip into the timeline and have to render, that is a BIG CLUE that something is wrong. You should never have to render just a base clip if everything is setup right. That means converting the footage to DV/NTSC, and using the same settings in FCP.
#3 - Where is your media stored? And what type of SCRATCH DISK do you have? do no use your system drive to store footage or render to.

  • Error: You must have at least 1 Easy Setup File?

    I just upgraded from FCE 1.0.1 to FCE HD v3.0. I have Quicktime 7.4.5 & OS X 10.4.11
When I launch, it takes forever because it's trying to load all my audio plugins into it and then at the end of that I get this error message:
Unable to start Final Cut Express HD. You must have at least 1 Easy Setup file. Please re-install Final Cut Express HD and try again.
Since it takes so long to install and I've already done it twice now...to no avail mind you...I was wondering if a guru or enlightened person would fill me in with what's going on and what I might do about it?

You may as well get rid of everything as we don't know where the problem lies.
This says FCE 2 but it is for FCE 1.0.1 as well. Remember many of the FCE 3.0 and FCE 1.0.1 files will be the same/shared.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93690
When you reinstall, do not install FCE 1.0.1.
Simply install FCE 3.0 and you will be asked at some point for the FCE 1.0.1 serial number as well.

  • Importing .mod files and posting them as .mov files on YouTube

I'm importing .mod files from my camcorder to iMovie directly. The videos play fine on iMovie. I then directly send them to YouTube (I believe as the QuickTime format .mov). The files import, but fail to process for viewing.
    Any suggestions?

First, do not worry, PrE7 has not harmed your files. It is just that it can only get to the Audio portion of those files, so that is all that it can display. They are still intact.
Now, with many file formats, and AVI in particular, much can be inside that file. This ARTICLE will give you some background.
With just the Audio coming through, my guess would be that the files are encoded using either DivX, or Xvid, as this is a very common problem. You can check this out with G-Spot, also mentioned in the linked article.
If the files play on your computer, then you likely have the necessary CODEC, unless you're using MediaPlayer Classic or VLC Player, as they have their own CODEC systems.
Steve's advice to convert these files is the best course of action. You may need to get the CODEC and install it (again, G-Spot will tell you exactly what you will need and if its installed on your computer). I do not know if Prizm has its own CODEC's but would assume that it uses those installed on the computer.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • I have converted m2ts files to .mov to edit in FCE (4.0.1) When I drag the clips into the timeline they need rendering, as much as a minute for a 30 sec. clip. Is this normal? I am using OS 10 . My easy setup is apple intermediate codec, 720p30. Any help

I have converted m2ts files to .mov in streamclip,  for editing in fce 4.0.1. When I drag them into the fce timeline the clips need rendering, as much as a minute for a 30 second clip. Is this normal? My OS is 10.6.8. My easy setup in fce is apple intermediate codec 720p30. Any advice to avoid the rendereng would be helpful. Ann

To what codec, frame size & frame rate did you convert the files in Streamclip?
If it isn't AIC 720p30, you'll need to render.

  • Easy Setup For Panasonic AG-HMC150 Files?

I just got my new Panasonic AG-HMC150, and shot some sample footage at 720p/60. I had no problems getting the clips into FCP using Log & Transfer, and they look fine when playing them in the viewer, or from the timeline.
I have a Matrox MXO, and the clips also play great on my 2nd Cinema Display that runs off of the Matrox; and, I have a small Sony 4:3 CRT monitor, that shows the clips properly letterboxed, and they play fine on that too. I've even exported the clips to Compressor, and burned a DVD in DVDSP, which looks great. Audio is fine, in sync, etc.
The only problem is in the FCP canvas window; the lips will flicker a little or a lot, depending on the View Menu's video playback setting; using MXO DVCPRO 1280x720/59.94 causes a lot of flicker, while choosing MXO Uncompressed 1280x720/59.94 causes a little .
I'm not sure if my Easy Setup is correct; I've chosen the MXO Apple Pro Res 720p/59.94 sequence setting, but I'm not sure what to do for Capture or Device Control settings; I wouldn't think that they would matter.
I think the problem is with the Video Playback setting; I've chosen several of the MXO settings, and they all play fine on my Matrox monitor, but I can't find one that will smooth out playback in the canvas. Or, since everything else seems to work fine, should I even be worrying about this?
I'm making the switch from capturing tapes, and I actually expected a lot more trouble than I'm having; but solving this tiny glitch would be great. I'm looking forward to getting familiar with this camera and using it for some upcoming events.
Any suggestions on the proper Easy Setup settings for files from this camera, and in particular, a good View/Video Playback setting? Thanks in advance.

Click on one of the ingest camera files in the FCP Browser. Once it is selected, type Command + 9 to see the properties for the clip. Either report those properties here or take a screen shot of the item properties and post that here.
Next, click anywhere in your timeline, then type Command + 0 {zero} to see your Sequence Settings. Either report those settings here or take a screen shot of your Sequence Settings and post that screen shot here.

  • Importing new "Easy Setup" preferences? Is it possible?

I am running Final Cut Express HD 3.5.1 on my MacBook Pro (Intel Duo 2.66) with 2 Gb of RAM.
I am attempting to "import" a new "Easy Setup" provided by JVC for the Everio GZ-HD7U. The location of the download is:
    http://software.transdigital.co.jp/products/cbsev/qceng/
However, I can't figure out how to create/import this new "Easy Setup" so that it is an option to select in the the Easy Setup Menu.
    Any thoughts? Thank you.

There's no way to 'import' an Easy Setup in Final Cut Express.
You will be better off using MPEG Streamclip to convert your videos to Apple Intermediate Codec before you try importing them into FCE.

  • Need easy setup file?

I have just installed FCE on a new harddrive. When I open the application I get the following message:
Unable to start Final Cut Express HD. You must have at least 1 Easy Setup file. Please re-install Final Cut Express HD and try again.
I've tried re-installing about a bajillion times, with multiple install disks and licenses. What up with this??

I am having the same exact problem. Were you able to resolve this problem? (problem of Final Cut Express not starting up because it can not find a setup file.)
