Easy way of selecting JPEGs paired with RAW twin

I really need an easy way to select JPEG files that become redundant because I also have the RAW files. Single JPEGs should then be left out.

I'm shooting RAW/JPEG with an S95, that is, each shot creates separate RAW and JPEG files. The RAWs of course don't import, but I'd like to import the JPEGs. Unfortunately, the JPEGs won't appear in the Import dialog. Thus, there seems to be no way to import these files even though they exist as distinct files.
I've got LR 3.2. How can I bring these files into Lightroom?

Importing Raw Jpeg Pairs with Jpeg as Master

I give....I imported raw and jpeg as pairs since aperture updated for the D7000. I see the J on the badge. I assume they are stacked. I see where i can change the master to the raw file by right clicking. However, can't i just navigate to the raw file for adjustments or do I have to switch the master? I have looked at the manual. I have a book on aperture, I searched the board. I gotta be missing something really basic! Please help this stupid newbie. Is it better to import both as masters in the future? What do people prefer? tx

Hi Sheryl,
No, you aren't missing anything really basic. The RAW and JPG aren't really stacked. They are associated together in a different way that is only applicable for pulling JPG and RAW versions of the same photo out of your camera together.
If you can answer the following question, it might help the other users (and mybe you) help you.
Why is it a problem to have your RAW be the master?
With your hesitation to switch the master to the RAW, you imply to me that you would like Aperture to work with your JPG files, but at the same time it your question implies that you would like you want to work on your RAW file.
In my own preference, I struggled with what to start out with, RAW or JPG. I came to the conclusion that I didn't want to spend the time comparing RAW and JPG from my camera and deciding what to do. I no longer capture RAW+JPG in my camera.
Basically, post-processing the RAW file through Aperture gives you lots more information to work with, as the creation of a JPG in your camera throws out lots of colors and pixels. So, I had to balance things, why would I choose to take a "throwaway snapshot" with RAW if I knew it probably wouldn't be worth post-processing? For instance, all the pictures of my niece at the dinnertable in really bad light. I can't do anything worthwhile in post-processing with the sharp shadows, and the 5 different and ugly light sources, and the fact that she only looked at the camera once. Yeah, I can make it a little better, but not enough that it's worth post-processing to me. So, for those pictures, I just let my camera do the work and use the most basic, point-and-shoot settings most of the time. My camera produces JPG-only in the basic settings.
On the other hand, for those sunsets, gardens, forests, streams, vistas, etc, I probably would like to do a little post-processing if my exposure wasn't right to begin with. I decided that I would just let Aperture decode the RAW file for me and forget about the JPGs entirely. When I'm using my camera in manual mode (or one of the quasi-manual modes) I shoot in RAW only. Yes, my camera will do a better job rendering a JPG than Aperture will, but Aperture's very good and I figure I wouldn't be looking at the JPG from the camera if I'm doing other post-processing in Aperture.
That being said, there are many other opinions and othe reasons to choose one way or the other.

Is there an easy way to replace spry menus with jQuery menu system?

I just learned that Adobe is no longer using spry or that spry does not work on mobile devices. My entire site (built in CS5.5 moved to CS6) is built with 3 different spry menu systems. I have been told about jQuery, and many other menu system options. I work in design view and can copy and paste code, read code etc...but cant write it to save my life. I cannot seen to understsand how a different menu software system will integrate with DW especially when I use design view. My question is, is there an easy way to change my spry menu's? I have 2 spry menu bars, spry tabbed menus on EVERY page and a spry accordian menu that repeats on all pages. I am working with a template I built, so hopefully it is an easy fix.
Any walkthrough help would be greatly appreciated. Below is the code for my template minus the div set up.

Easy way to select files w/develop settings applied?

Adobe Bridge CS6/Camera Raw Win7 - OK I have a folder w/350 images, some of these (50 or so scattered about) I've applied a Camera Raw develop setting to and can see the results in Bridge and thay have a little symbol in the thumb. Other than manually selecting them (ctl/shft click click click) is there a way to say to Bridge "select all files with develop stting applied"? so I can move/open/export/whatever?
That would save a lot of wear and tear on the wrists...

Look in the filter panel under Camera Raw and select 'custom settings' . If you then choose the sort order in the path bar (top right in Bridge window) and select sort by date modified they will also get in the order first last you applied settings to.

Easy way to open JPGs in Camera Raw Module?

I am aware of the way to open JPGs in the ACR module by being in the Editor, and going to File>Open and changing the file type to RAW. I find this to be terribly inconvenient, however.
Is there any way to open a JPG in RAW from the Organizer where I can actually see the files? With regular Photoshop/Bridge I can just right click in Bridge and open in RAW easily. But I can't seem to find a way to do something similar in PSE11? There has to be an easier way because going to File>Open and trying to figure out what file I need from a huge pile of files is not a very good workflow.

If you want to edit multiple JPGs in a raw editor interface, then you might consider using Lightroom, which is a bit cheaper than Photoshop.

Easy way to build a resume with word?

I am trying to create a resume, and I have trouble with AutoFormat, Columns, Bullets, etc.
Is there an easy way to build a professional-looking resume? Even for someone like me, who doesn't do well with formatting?
I tried to find a wizard or a good template, but my Microsoft Office Word version from 2004 doesn't have either. And the Word templates for Mac that I downloaded from online were not good either.
What can I do? Thank you for your help!

Easy way to select Stereo or 5-Channel - will it work?

I discovered a relatively easy way to let the viewer select Stereo or 5.1 Audio. You gurus maybe already know this, but I just thought I would ask if it will work.
Put video in Track 1. Then put a Dolby stereo AC3 in Audio 1 of that same track, and a Dolby 5.1 AC3 in Audio 2 of that same track (probably doesn't matter which goes into which track).
Created 2 buttons in the menu, both buttons play Track 1. Selected first button, clicked the Advanced tab in the Inspector, set Audio to Audio Stream 1. Selected the other button, set Audio to Audio Stream 2.
Didn't have to do any scripting, and it seems to work when I burned a disk.
Anybody know if there are hidden problems waiting for me around the corner?

Yes this works, essentially DVDSP is writing the commands behind the scenes. I have had this function completely screw up my more complicated DVDs that use many scripts including scripts that point to loop points.
for a basic dvd you should be fine.

What is the easy way to create a crossword with InDesign CS5 for a interactive pdf?

I mean I want to create a pdf magazine and i like to include a crossword. I read somewhere that one way is create a crossword with an external software and include it in the ID project but I don't know any crossword software and if I add in my ID project, I only need to export like a interactive pdf? I would like that the users can use the crossword in online version.

I'm not sure about what to you mean. But I create first the crossword with Excel, I mean to put the words in the right order and the questions and/or cue too. Then I create a table in InDesign and format some cells with black background and some borders. I upload both captures, from Excel and from InDesigne. Then with Adobe X Pro I create a form, so I can create singles inputs for the crossword.

Easy way to compare iphoto contents with images in picture folder?

I know there are duplicate images stored in both places. Is there an easy way to find which images are duplicated?

Are you running a Managed or a Referenced Library?
A Managed Library, is the default setting, and iPhoto copies files into the iPhoto Library when Importing. The files are then stored in the Library package
A Referenced Library is when iPhoto is NOT copying the files into the iPhoto Library when importing because you made a change at iPhoto -> Preferences -> Advanced. (You unchecked the option to copy files into the Library on import) The files are then stored where ever you put them and not in the Library package. In this scenario you are responsible for the File Management.
That would be the second scenario that Léonie is asking about.

Can't see jpeg images with RAW

Hi All,
I'm using a Canon 5d11 with setting for RAW + jpeg combo. When I import to Aperture, all I can se is the RAW CR2 image. I tried a search etc. but no luck. Am I missing something or setting to view both or are they someplace else in separate folders?

Under Images menu there is a "Create Version from Master JPG". They are combined in one thumbnail but if you use the menu item on all the selected thumbnails you will get the JPG.

Rants: Easier way of creating SWF panels with CS5?

Last week I got a fairly advanced SWF panel in Photoshop CS4 running executing JSX scripts. But when I started to look into developing for CS5 everything changed and former SWF panels and their scripts do not work anymore in Photoshop CS5. And honestly I think there are way to many complicated little steps in the way to just get started. I am probably stuck on this for several weeks just to get a hello world demo running- and I am not sure If I want that. Getting the CS4 version running was a matter of 3 nights, even though back then the documentation was really hard to find and often incomplete.
So upon studying the SDK and the tutorials that adobe provides I noticed a few annoying blockers in my way
Adobe Flash builder dictation, some things are very restrictive and shown only for just that IDE platform. My choice of scripting environment is FlashBuilder however for various reasons (free and coding speed are 2 of them). The documentations and Tutorials however hide many important steps that are going on in the background. If the compiler gets certain arguments I need to know that, same if some ANT scripts or alike deploy files to certain folders.
upon configuring my computer before scripting I had to change a windows registry key (HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Softwarea\Adobe\CSXS2Preferences, playerDebugMode = 1). However that key entry doesn't even exist to begin with on my Windows 7 computer even though Photoshop CS5, Extention Manager and ExtendScript Toolkit are present and installed.
I need a special SDK compiler instead of the latest FlexSDK, this makes things only more complicated and confusing. I have it now but to figure that out took a while, as this is completely different from how things used to work with CS4.
Everything is flex focused it would be nice if some tutorials could have a focus on pure AS3 as well, for those who don't like the Flex framework or GUI.
CS4 and CS5 (Photoshop) seem to be incompatible in the way one can deploy or create SWF panels, this is a major down for any developer that is interested in supporting booth applications. I happen to work in a environment where still a majority of people work with CS4. Also the CS4 documentation (Photoshop) for the SWF panels seem to have vanished, this makes this issue even worse.
So what I want is:
The most minimalistic working example straight to the point just to get a SWF panel in Photoshop CS5 running executing some JSX script using eval for example. This is easy in CS4 but very restricted and complicated in CS5 .
dropping a SWF file in the Photoshop/plugins/panel folder works but it resizes wrong (even though stage.scaleMode is set to noScale), and any CSXSInterface methods seem to be ignored (CSXSLibrary-2.0-sdk-3.4-public.swc used).
I think I gave up for now on CS5, to restrictive, complex and incompatible with CS4 are my main complaints- I hope this gets through as some feedback - or maybe there is a answer on all my questions?

one answer to your last question could be this cookbook, then as you probably already know there's the Photoshop panel developer's guide (the CS5 isn't that different from CS4...)
As the #1 messy coder around (and not that much skilled), I understand your complaints. I'm focused on Photoshop only, and the panel guide for CS4 was more than enough. My learning curve with CS SDK is, to put it mildly, steep (since I've not really any previous experience with Flex - and I agree, using 3.4 SDK and not 4.0 may lead to some confusion), but I'm optimistically confident that CS SDK for CS6 will be far more usable.
I find particularly annoying that to make life easier Adobe created CS Extension Builder, but to get it is nearly impossible (at least for me: I don't know if Gmail can't get thru Adobe mail server spam control, but in the last 4 months I wrote several emails to Roger Risdal, the "Partner Product and Business Developer Manager" in order to get info about the developer partnership required, and I got as the only answer a couple of out-of-office autoreply) Rumors say that Adobe's DevNet will undergo some robust changes (when, I don't know) - I hope they will change their mind about the way Extension Builder will be (or not be) distributed.
One last optimistic consideration is that the tools needed to deploy an extension (the ucf.jar for instance) and the general workflow (write the manifest.xml, pack everything with that java command line utility into a zip-like file, the .zxp, then write an .mxi to access features like auto-update and re-pack again into *another* .zxp) are far from having a good usability and being straightforward... so far that in my opinion the newer releases will surely be better than this one.
That said, I understand that experienced developers are happily plunging into CS SDK while I'm having hard times keeping my head above waters, and I'm sure CS SDK will lead to a very interesting future.
By the way, to drop the SWF in the panel's folder isn't a good idea if you want the extension to have the right dimensions (this is something I've learnt) - the manifest.xml is the right place.

Is there an easy way to select Items randomly from a data structure?

Put simply, I want to implement a "bag" data structure. So, when i select an item I don't know which one i'm going to get. I want to be able to select all the items once (so no replacing of items i.e. selecting the same item twice in one session).
I can think of ways to implement it using random number generators and the like but does anyone know of a simple datastructure that will encapsulate this "bag" functionality and make my life simple. Hash tables maybe? Any pointers appreciated.

I don't think there is anything like this in the collections framework but writing one as an extension of a vector could be simple. Something like:
public class Bag extends Vector {
private Random _random = new Random();
public Object pickRandom() {
return this.remove(this._random.nextInt(this.size()));
}To add objects to the bag you just use the add(Object o) method (specified by the List interface, implemented by Vector). To "grab" one just call pickRandom().

This feature is missing on most Nokia models now a days.. Either you select ONE at a time or ALL at a time.. No option to select a few as you want..
Have a look at the PENCIL KEY application if it serves your purpose.. Google for it..
