Easy way to change large number of macs to Auto proxy (.pac) file

Hello all,
I need to change a large number of machines over to using a pac file instead of the current settings for secure and web proxys.
It's not possible using 10.4 CLI command "networksetup" but I'm wondering if anyone may have another way of doing this ? Possibly a script or something ???
I have seen in the 10.5 version this is now possible, but don't know how (or if it's possible) to get the new "networksetup" to work in 10.4 ...
Mitch

The site  has been around for years, and has done ok on a few search terms, but on others it is doing very poorly... and I believe that these changes will only improve things. As currently the descriptions arent very good.
thank you for your help btw!

  • I want to know if there is a way to change the number of...

is there any way to change the number of pages that appear when you hit the history button? I would like to see fifty or one hundred instead of just fifteen. so I don't have to take the extra steps and time to move ahead and then choose today for example.

I wonder wheteher Apple can track the device, given the model and the serial number that identifies it?
No. Apple has no way of doing that.
If you configured your iPad with a password, its contents will remain completely inaccessible and secure. To be useful, the iPad will need to be erased first, but there is no way for you to prevent someone from doing that.
If you had enabled Find my iPad in Settings > iCloud prior to giving it to someone, you can locate it using iCloud. However, that will no longer be an option once that someone erases it.

  • HT1349 Is there an easier way to change my security question?

Is there an easy way to change my security questions? I forgot the passwords to 2 of them and cannot get onto my game system stuff.

You need to ask Apple to reset your security questions; ways of contacting them include clicking here and picking a method for your country, phoning AppleCare and asking for the Account Security team, and filling out and submitting this form.
    They wouldn't be
security questions if they could be bypassed without verifying your identity. (97400)

  • Best way to delete large number of records but not interfere with tlog backups on a schedule

Ive inherited a system with multiple databases and there are db and tlog backups that run on schedules.  There is a list of tables that need a lot of records purged from them.  What would be a good approach to use for deleting the old records?
Ive been digging through old posts, reading best practices etc, but still not sure the best way to attack it.
    Approach #1
A one-time delete that did everything.  Delete all the old records, in batches of say 50,000 at a time.
After each run through all the tables for that DB, execute a tlog backup.
    Approach #2
Create a job that does a similar process as above, except dont loop.  Only do the batch once.  Have the job scheduled to start say on the half hour, assuming the tlog backups run every hour.
    Note:
Some of these (well, most) are going to have relations on them.

    Hi shiftbit,
According to your description, in my opinion, the type of this question is changed to discussion. It will be better and
more experts will focus on this issue and assist you. When delete large number of records from tables, you can use bulk deletions that it would not make the transaction log growing and runing out of disk space. You can
take the table offline for maintenance, a complete reorganization is always best because it does the delete and places the table back into a pristine state.
For more information about deleting a large number of records without affecting the transaction log.

    Hope it can help.

  • Easy way to change server settings when switching between home&office

    I have the following problem:
When I'm at home my email server (imap/smtp) is mail.mani.pt,
when I'm at the office I address it as 192.16.1.2
Each time I switch locations I have to modify all the account settings in mail. This is a pain.
Is there a easy way of doing this??
In Windows I use an app called PortTunnel where I can redefine certain ports, i.e. localhost:25->192.168.1.2:25 etc
So I only have to activate the different locations here (easy) and in the mail app the server is ALWAYS localhost.
Is there a way to do this under Mac?

If changing the incoming mail server on the fly is problematic, it should make no difference if a script or the user does it manually in the account preference. Since this is something that users may have to do for various reasons (travel, ISP changes, whatever), it would be very lame if Mail could not handle this gracefully.
From what I can tell, Mail 2.x uses the initial mail server name in creating the account's folder but thereafter uses UID's & path names stored in ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist to reference its contents. (For those interested, the property is MailAccounts array.) As long as these don't change, there should be no problems.
However, this suggests that .plist corruption or removing the .plist for troubleshooting could contribute to this kind of problem, so one should be very careful to use the initial mail server name if it becomes necessary to reconstruct the account.

  • Is there an easy way to count the number of albums I have in my library?

Hi, there is probably a very easy way to find out how many albums I have in my iTunes library - but I haven't discovered it yet! (looking for something a bit like word count in MS Word document?)
    Powerbook G4 15 1.67   Mac OS X (10.4.3)   my first Mac - where have I been!?!

Click on the Library icon in the source list Go Edit->Show Browser.
This will split the library window into subwindows listing each genre, artist and album, at the top of these windows it will show the total for each of these categories.
Apart from being the easiest way to count your albums, it's also a really useful way to view the library or any playlist. You can turn off the genre subwindow through the general preferences.
    Hope that helps!
    Sara.

  • Is there an easy way to remove duplicates in my Mac OS X Mail mailboxes?

Having imported some mailboxes from other applications I find that there are many duplicate messages in Mail mailboxes. I know this comes about from my lack of care in importing. I'd like to eliminate the duplicates, but obviously doing so one by one would be quite a task. I have little expectation that there's an easy way to do this, but I can always hope. Is there a way? Thanx,
    Ken

Mail Scripts was a good suggestion but I doesn't work. Well what do you expect with freeware. I ran the duplicate catcher script several times, once on a rather large mailbox which I know contains hundreds of duplicates and it found 1 (one). As suggested I checked "Take all accounts offline" before I ran the script. Does anyone know a different program that can eliminate those duplicates? I'd really appreciate one that works.

  • I don't need the full package. Is there an easy way to change from the full to photographer's package?

I'm trying to save money and realize that I don't need the full package. I wanted to just change over to photographer's pack with just Lightroom and Photoshop but I seem to be missing the way to do that through my account. Is there an easier way?

  • Best way to handle large number video files for a project..

Hey, I was looking at getting some insight from the community here. Bascially there is a project that is being worked on that requires large amount of footage to be sifted through that only a small percentage will be used. These are mostly HD files and while most of the footage has been watched on Quicktime with notes taken, my question is this.
What is the best way to take only small portions of each file without having to load everything into final cut and without any loose of quality. Should I just trim and rename from Quicktime or is there an easier way?
Reason this needs to be done this way is the smaller segments will each be sent to other editors and rather then send huge files we want to split it to smaller amounts for each editor to use.
Thank you so much for any input regarding this, I look forward to what you have to say

Open the clip into the viewer. Mark In and Out points on the section you want. Make it a subclip Cmd-U. Drag the subclip into the bin for the editor who needs it. Repeat.
If you batch export from a clip there is a selection to choose whether to export the whole clip or check box to export the marked I/O.
This does not sound like a good project on which to being learning FCP.

  • Is there no easy way to change the computer that an iPhone is synched with?

I have my iPhone 4 synched to an old Power Mac.  I just bought a new Macbook and want to transfer my iPhone info to this new computer so I can synch and update software from this new computer.  I am getting rid of the Power Mac.  Is there no easy way to do this?  I can't seem to figure it out.  I don't want to lose my info or iTunes library.  Apple is usually so intuitive, but this seems to be incredible complicated.  Any ideas?

This link says "If you have photos that were synced to your phone or music ripped on your own that were not backed up, you will first have to extract them from your phone using third party software, before you do anything else, as Apple makes no provision to do so".  I don't understand.  Isn't it ALL synched to my iPhone?  Isn't that why it's ON my iPhone?  This is absurdly confusing.

  • Is there any way to change some of the parameters in hundreds of xml file

    Hi,
We have got hundreds of xmls to run some of the batch scripts.I need to change some of the parameters in those xmls like USER,PASSWORD,SERVERetc. All the So I am doing them manually now by opening each of the xml script ,edit -> Find and Replace. But can anyone suggest me an easy way to update hundreds of xmls.

In the past, I've written VBA code in Excel to open all the files in a directory, then search for the strings and replace them. The files are then written out to a new directory so I was able to keep the original versions. It's pretty easy using a few loops

    Hi,
I have created jax-ws proxy client using JDeveloper 10g. I need to change the generated xml message tags. I need to remove the namespace prefix tags from the xml message. For ex: the current request message looks like this:

    should be
    <EMPLOYEE_NAME>John</EMPLOYEE_NAME>
    without the nso prefix.
How can I do that? Please help me.

  • Easy way to throw iPhone pictures onto Mac

I think it'd be great if I could just throw pictures onto my mac instead of having to email them to myself.  How can I do this?  I see this iCloud share but..when I shared it with myself I don't see anything on icloud.com or my email or anywhere.

There are a number of ways, including:
Import photos and videos from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to your Mac or Windows PC

The next one will be iCloud Photo Library but not a good idea yet with a Mac until the new Photos is released for the Mac.

  • Is there an easy way to move mailboxes from my Mac to MobileMe?

I spent quite a bit of time this past weekend doing it one by one and thought there must be a better way.  I have alot of emails in Mail "On my Mac" [not on mobile me] because of moving mboxes from one program to Mail.  They are all there in "On my Mac" but I want some [all?] of them in "MobileMe" - I have the accounts set up right, current email is coming in just fine, but these older emails are not on MobileMe but I do want them there.
Is there any way to accomplish this short of doing it, as I did last time, one by one???

Are they messages that were addressed to your MobileMe account?
You should be able to either create a new folder to be on the MobileMe server, and then select all the messages in any one On My Mac mailbox and move them.  I would personally use the Move To command in the pull-down under Messages to do this, but they can be dragged en mass.
